Albert O. “Mack” Burleson, 74 of Moline died March 18, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Garden, East Moline. Albert was born September 3, 1929 in Guin, AL to John R. and Della Lane Burleson McCorkle. He married Helen Verscheure on May 28, 1955 in Moline. Albert was an Army veteran stationed in Germany. He was a foil mill worker for 35 years at Alcoa retiring in 1992. Albert enjoyed gardening and meeting his friends early every morning at Hardees. He also enjoyed riding in his dune buggy on the Michigan dunes. Albert’s family was the most important thing in his life especially the time spent with his grandchildren. SURVIVORS: Wife, Helen Daughter: Pamela J. & Carl Walz, East Moline Sons: Steve & Janice Burleson, Orion John A. & Julie Burleson, Moline, Grandchildren: Steve II, Joyce, Chad, Kaylee, Samantha, Jena and Josh 5 great grandchildren 4 step grandchildren 5 step great grandchildren He was preceded in death by three brothers; Andrew & Bill of Guin and Wyman of Lansing, MI.

Fowler, Madeline "Grandma Sunshine",

Visitation: 2:00-6:00 p.m. with a wake service at 5:00 March 21, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd.
Madeline “Grandma Sunshine” Fowler age 76, of East Moline died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at home. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m.on Monday, March 22, 2004 at Christ the King Mortuary, Ltd . 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. with a wake service starting at 5p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. Madeline was born July 13, 1927 in Darwen, England to Albert and Mary Wilkinson Walmsley. She married Jack Fowler in September, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1974. Madeline immigrated to the United States in 1976 with her children David, Philip and Andrea. Madeline worked for 18 years as a housekeeper at the former Lutheran Hospital. She worked on the pediatric ward beginning in 1979 where she got the nickname “Grandma Sunshine”. Several articles including a 1984 Women’s World magazine article described how she earned her nickname and the compassion she showed to the children on the ward. After retiring she kept busy volunteering. She worked as a greeter at the South Park Hardee’s in 2002. Madeline enjoyed ballroom dancing, singing, spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Timmy. She was known to call everyone “Love”. Quentin A. “Skeeter” Anderson, 65 of Springfield, OH formerly of Moline died March 16, 2004 at his home in Springfield, OH. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Fund. Quentin was born June 30, 1938 in Moline to Albert and Hazel Gustafson Anderson. Quentin was currently employed as a foreman for International Navistar Motor & Truck Works where he had been employed since 1958. Quentin received the Employment Service Award for his 45 years of dedication to his job. He was a member of the Local 402 Union in Springfield, OH. He was also an avid Cubs fan. SURVIVORS: Sisters, Katherine Jenkins, Moline, Irene & Richard Hanssen, Blue Grass, IA Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard and John and a sister Helen Lehman.

William E. “Bill” Grothusen, 84 of Moline died March 16, 2004 at Rosewood Health Care Center, Moline. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice or the Humane Society. William was born February 3, 1920 in Davenport, IA to William H. and Lillian E. Schwenke Grothusen. He married Margaret Anderson on February 14, 1941 in Maquoketa, IA. William was a WWII Navy veteran serving from 1943-1946. He was a tool and dye maker at Amitek for 28 years. He also worked for John Deere Harvester from 1980-1982. William enjoyed cars, Harley’s and Goldwings. He also loved pets. He was a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline Lodge No. 1014 AF & AM, Moline, IL. He will always be remembered for his kind soul. SURVIVORS: Wife, Margaret Brother, Victor Grothusen, Sherrard, IL Brother/Sister-in-law, Bob & Sharon Anderson, Virginia, MN Friends, Doris & Mel Richards, Moline, Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Dorthea Borkgren and Jeanette Haddick.,

He married Dorothy A. Haynie on April 27, 1944 in Rock Island. Lowell retired in 1984 from John Deere Harvester after 28 years of employement. Lowell was a former Union represenative and steward. He married Dolores Shreve on September 4, 1954 in East Moline. James was a metal pattern maker with John Deere for 37 years retiring in 1987. James was US Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was an AARP member and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, East Moline where he was on the board of Elders and on the board of Trustees. He was a member of the Independent Order of Vikings, Thor Lodge #9. He loved fishing, boating, working with his hands and being with his grandchildren. SURVIVORS: Wife, Dolores, East Moline Sons Terence James (Julie) , East Moline, Timothy Jay (Kristi) Lexington, IL Todd Joseph (Kathy) , Palm Beach Gardens, FL Toby Jon (Rebecca) , Port St. Lucie, FL 10 Grandchildren Kristyna, Timothy, Ashley, Danielle, Andrew, Matthew, Steven, Jeffery, Samuel, and Jack. He was preceeded in death by his parents and a half brother.

Marjorie was born December 12, 1906 in Silver Creek, MN, the daughter of Franklin and Lillian Jacobs Rivers. She married Arlie John Hulting on March 31, 1929 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1974. Marjorie was employed at Grants as a waitress. She later owned and operated Hazel’s Grill in East Moline. Marjorie was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Moline. She belonged to the Senior Center in Moline and was a former member of the Moline Moose Club. She also enjoyed dancing. SURVIVORS: Sons: Leslie Hulting, Moline, Lyle (Barbara) Hulting, East Moline Roy (Carma) Hulting, Rock Island Daughter Elaine (Dale) Cronau, Hampton, IL. 14 Grandchildren 14 Great Grandchildren 1 Great Great Granddaughter She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Evelyn, and a sister Irene Eddy.

Lester was born July 3, 1942 in Davenport to Lester O. and Julia Ginneberge Thoensen. He married Carolyn J. Ritchie on December 12, 1964 in Milan. Lester was a meat cutter for 18 years working for Geifman’s and Jewel Foods. In April of 2003 he retired from Metrolink as Operations Supervisor. Lester served in the Army Reserves from March 18, 1961 to December of 1966 stationed in Ft. Leonardwood and Ft. Ord in California. He belonged to the former Meat Cutters Union # 431. He enjoyed camping, watching hockey and time spent with his family especially his grandchildren. SURVIVORS: Wife, Carolyn, Rock Island Mother Julia Thoensen, Davenport Daughter: Julia A. Temple, Davenport Sons: Anthony (Angela) Thoensen, Woodstock, GA Kevin (Melissa) Thoensen, Moline Mark Thoensen, Rock Island Grandchildren, Elizabeth Richelle Haley Isaac Courtland Sister Carolyn (Everett) Hughes, Union, WA Brother, Steven (Sally) Thoensen, Davenport, IA He was preceded in death by his father, infant brother and sister.
