Ronald Roark McGinnis, 65, of Moline, formerly of Bettendorf, died Friday June 18, 2004 at home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday June 23, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice or the 312 Gillespie Ave. Foundation. Ron was born July 18, 1938 in Troy, New York the son of Michael Leon and Irene Roark McGinnis. He married Patricia Morris on June 30, 1962 in Charleston, South Carolina. Ron was a graduate of The Citadel, military College of South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1964. Ron was a district manager for Roadway Express for 30 years, retiring in December of 1994. He was a past president of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and a member of the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, FL. He was an avid fisherman and supporter of University of Iowa Athletics. He was a Chicago White SoxA fan. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with family and friends. His children and grandchildren were very special to him. SURVIVORS: Wife Patricia, Moline, Daughters: Debra (Allan) Ulrich, Bettendorf Karen (John) Avery, DuPont, WA Son, Michael (Melessia) McGinnis, Carroll, IA, Grandchildren: Matthew Allan Ulrich Sean Patrick Ulrich Kendall McGinnis Avery Chandler Sierra Avery Jackson Bradford McGinnis Holden Roark McGinnis Sister Mikell (William) Driscoll, Pinehurst, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Grill, Frank Henry
June 08, 1916 - June 16, 2004
Rock Island, IL.
Frank Henry Grill passed away June 16 at Friendship Manor Rock Island, Illinois. Frank was born June 8, 1916 in Melcher, Iowa to Johann and Theresia Grill, both Austrian immigrants. He was the grandson of Friedrich Grill & Josefa Flucher Grill of Austria. He married Ethel E. Wilcox in Davenport, Iowa in 1946. They resided in the Chicago area until Ethel's death in 1986; after which time Frank returned to the Quad Cities to live closer to his brother Albert and family. During the past two years, Frank has lived at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, Illinois. He worked as a machinist at Eagle Signal Corporation and McLaughlin Body Company, both in Moline, Illinois. For 25 years he was a supervisor and supply foreman for Walgreens' stores in the Chicago area. Frank served in World War II from April 1941 to June 1945 in Guadalcanal and the Northern Solomon Islands. He was awarded the Good Conduct Ribbon, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Battle Star, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three Battle Stars and six Overseas Service Bars. He was also recognized as rescuing a drowning American soldier during combat. Frank will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, quiet dignity, enjoyment of family gatherings, newfound love of ice cream and being a truly "Gentle"-man. In addition to his parents and wife, his sister, Gladys Mae Grill Pack, and brother, Joe Carl Grill, preceded Frank in death. May they rest in peace. Surviving him are his brother, Albert George Grill, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Grill, and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral and burial services for the immediate family were held at Esterdahl Mortuary June 19 with burial in Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis, Illinois. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Friendship Manor for their loving respect and dedication to Frank, as well as, the extra ice cream. Dr. Reynaldo Castro is thanked for his exceptional skill, many kindnesses and caring heart. Thank you, also, to Larry Dellitt of the Trust Department of Metro Bank of East Moline and the Hospice Care of VNA.

Paul G. Wind, 87, of Coal Valley died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at home. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave. Moline, IL. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7:30 conducted by Valley Lodge#547 Coal Valley. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. military rites by American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post # 246, First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, or a charity of your choice. Paul was born June 25, 1916 in Davenport, IA the son of Chris P. and Emma M. Hank Wind. He married Helen L. Behrens in 1935 in Chicago, IL. He later married Violet M. Harcarick in 1964 in Dallas, TX. She preceded him in death on January 31, 1995. Paul was a World War II Army Veteran. He served as a T Sgt. in the Army in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and also a member and past Master of Valley Lodge # 547, Coal Valley. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Moline, a member of the Travelers Protective Association, past Commander of American Legion Post #246 of which he was a life member and past Commander of the Honor Guard. He also served as Post Adjutant of American Legion Post #246 for years. He was a life member of the Willard L Velie, Jr. VFW Post 2153 of Moline.He was involved in the Quad Cities Plus 60 Club, the Croatian Crest Club, and also Moline High Twelve Club #88. He was also a member of Thor Lodge #9 Independent Orger of Vikings. Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley. He was ordinate as Elder of the Church in 1991, he sang in the choir for years, and also served as Treasurer of the church for 3 years. Before WWII, Paul worked as a tool & die maker at Reynolds Engineering. After the war he went into TV and radio working with Sam's TV and Bacon Deering TV. He also served as co-owner of S&W Television Service. SURVIVORS: Daughters: Carol J. (Daniel) Simatovich Moline Judith L. (Charles) Swope, Moline, Step-Daughter: Darlene (Dan) Smith, Carrolltown, TX 6 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Also Janette L. Frost who has been a dear friend in Paul's later years.

Mallie M. Williams, age 79 of East Moline died June 10, 2004 at Manor Care in Libertyville, IL. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at First Christian Church, Moline. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd. 6601 38th Ave, Moline. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mallie Williams Scholarship Fund in care of Jamieson Long and Associates, Moline. Mallie was born April 8, 1925 in East Moline. Mr. Williams was a life long resident of East Moline. A professional musician, he taught music at United Township High School for 34 years until he retired in 1986. He also taught music at Hampton Elementary School, Carbon Cliff and served briefly on the faculty of Black Hawk College. After retirement he served as Minister of Music for First Christian Church of Moline until 2001. He also served as the choir director at First Baptist Church, Moline; Union Congregational Church, Moline; and Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline. He proudly served his country in Indian Gap Town Pennsylvania as a member of the United States Army band when the armed forces were still segregated. After the service Mr. Williams returned to East Moline where he attended Augustana College receiving a degree in Music Education. In 1954, he wed Lorraine Madlock of Cedar Rapids. In 1959 he earned his Master of Arts from the University of Iowa. Mr. Williams was active in his community pursuing his love of music and educating young people. He served as Music Director for Quad City Music Guild for several productions including Oliver, Lil' Abner, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, Man of LaMancha, and The King and I. He also taught private music lessons to countless students. Mr. Williams received many awards and commendations throughout his career including the Outstanding Secondary Educator Award and a Distinguished Alumni Award from Augustana College. He served on the Augustana College Alumni Board. Survivors: Wife Lorraine Williams Daughter Karla Williams Grandson, Nate Elsey-Williams Son-in-law, Ronald Elsey Many cousins and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Williams and step-mother Ruth Williams.

Odis Frank Bean, age 89 of Rock Island died June 9, 2004 at Oak Glen Home in Coal Valley. Funeral services will be Monday, June 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Bethel Assembly of God Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Bethel Assembly of God Church, Rock Island. Odis was born November 18, 1914 in Chickasha, OK the son of Hawley and Nora Belle Autry Bean. He married Audrey Sorrels on October 23, 1937 in Lawton, OK. Odis worked at the former Bendix aviation in Davenport as a tool and die maker. He was later employed at M A Ford in Davenport retiring in February of 1976. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Rock Island where he was a former deacon for 30 years. and was also a Sunday school teacher and a greeter and usher. He loved to work in his vegetable and flower garden, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. SURVIVORS: Wife, Audrey Bean, Rock Island Daughter: Janeice (Bill) Myers, Tempe, AZ Sons Rev. Dale (Carolyn) Bean, Marshall, MO Larry Bean, McKee, KY Sisters, Olive Wilkerson, ElReno, OK Vivian McCray, ElReno, OK 8 Grand children, and 13 Great-Grand children. He was preceded in death by a grandson Alan Bean and a sister Lota Oxford.

Collin, M. Shirley

Myrl Shirley Collin, age 86 formerly of East Moline died June 8, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be Friday, June 11th at 2:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601- 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Myrl Shirley was born on November 18, 1917 in Orion, IL the daughter of George and Dorothy Raisbeck Greenwood. She married Harold S. Collin on October 4, 1969 in Moline. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1988. Myrl Shirley began her career working for the U.S. Government at the Rock Island Arsenal. She later worked for Modern Woodman in Rock Island, last working in June of 1984. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. She was an avid bowler and truly enjoyed her flower garden, animals, watching the birds, and reading. She loved time spent with her family. SURVIVORS: include two step-sons; Dan and Jill Collin of Orion and Jerry and Jude Collin of Columbia, TN; one step-daughter Vicki and Francis Fisher of Lawton, OK; 3 granddaughters Andrea Burdett of Victoria, Montana and Heather and Brooke Collin of Orion; 4 great-grandchildren Justin, Cody, Leanna, and Jamie. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents, George and Dorothy Greenwood and her sister Helen Greenwood.

Jean M. Lowery, age 81 of Moline died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Moline with Dr. Melvin L. Grimes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2601-15th Street, Moline, IL 61265. Jean was born August 4, 1922 in Moline, the daughter of Leo and Alice Maxie Golden, Sr. and the step-daughter of Henry F. Foy. She married Henry Woods. She later married LaVan Lowery. Jean was employed at Black Hawk Area Special Education School as a teacher's aide for 20 years last working in 1987. She also worked as a nurses assistant and a meter maid. She was a deaconess at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Moline and a former member and deaconess of Olivet Baptist Church in Rock Island. She also was a former member of St. Paul AME Church in Moline. She was a member of the Senior Active Club, Moline Civic Club and the Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc. serving at the national, state and district levels. SURVIVORS: include 2 sisters, Connie Guice of Chicago and Marion Guice of California, a brother-in-law, DeWitt Terry, 2 sisters-in-law, Erma Golden and Bernetta Foy, 1 step-grandson, Michael Lowery, many nieces and nephews and 2 childhood friends Willa Mixon and Stella Weldon and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Leo Golden, Jr. and Billie Foy and sister Harriett Terry.

Alfred W. Day, age 89 of Moline died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. The celebration of his life will be private. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., Moline is assisting the family. Alfred was born on September 23, 1914 in Independence, Iowa the son of Alfred F. and Hulda J. Day. He married Esther Anderson September 21, 1942 in Independence, Iowa. Alfred worked at the Rock Island Arsenal sketching and writing repair manuals for gun assemblies during World War II. He then was employed as a machinist at International Harvester, East Moline for 30 years until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ in Moline. His hobbies were O gauge model railroading and oil painting and drawing. He also enjoyed studying ancient history and listening to classical music. He is survived by 2 daughters, a son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren. Alfred was preceded in death by Esther, his wife of 57 years and 2 sisters. He and his family greatly appreciated the kind care and friendships of staff and volunteers at Heartland Health Care Center.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetic Association. Sherry was born May 13, 1944 in Casey, IL to Russell and Hazel (Janes) Smith. She married Jerry Robinson on April 21, 1962 in Casey, IL. Sherry was a very special mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and was very active in their hobbies. She loved being at Cordova Drag Way and watching her two youngest grandkids race. She was a big part of their race team and will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS: Beloved husband, Jerry Robinson, Rock Island Daughter: Julie (Pete) Loomis, Milan Son, Brian (Judy) Robinson, Colona Grandchildren, Brian Larrison Brittney Larrison Chris Robinson Brandon Loomis, Mother: Hazel Smith, Sister: Darla (Greg) Baysinger, Nixa, MO Brothers: Richard (Nila) Smith, Lincoln, IL Bill (Rhonda) Smith, Phoenix, AZ Steve (Jean) Smith, Coal Valley Rex (Betty) Smith, Silvis She was preceded in death by her father.

Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. is assisting the family. Ralph was born on May 29, 1934 in Moline the son of Lawrence and Anna Blade Sersion. He married Donna Schnoebelen on April 11, 1958 in Moline. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1979. Ralph was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal as a plumber for 22 years. He enjoyed fishing. Ralph was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp from April 4, 1957-April 1, 1959. SURVIVORS: include sons Arron and Chris Sersion and a daughter Betty Sersion; 1 granddaughter, Donna Rodgers and 1 brother Lawrence “Bud” Sersion.
