Robert “Bob” Ruble, Jr.
Robert “Bob” Ruble, Jr. , age 41 of Grand Chain, died at 12:38 PM on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Union County Hospital.
He was born on September 14, 1970 in Blue Island the son of Robert and Carolyn Sue (Hornback) Ruble, Sr. He married Tammy Knotts on July 3, 1997. She survives him.
Bob loved to go fishing and camping with his boys. He was a member of Living Waters Church in Joppa.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy; 3 sons, Robert Allen Ruble of Vienna, Tristan S. L. Ruble and John Robert Ruble both of Grand Chain; his father, Robert Louis Ruble, Sr. of Chesterton, Ind. ; 1 brother, Rick Littlemeyer Ruble of Chesterton, Ind; and 2 sisters, Tasha Arrison and Connie Littlemeyer both of Metropolis.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Sue Ruble.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Living Waters Church in Joppa.
Crain Funeral Home in Ullin is in charge of arrangements.

Lynne Katherine Helmus
Lynne Katherine Helmus, 59, passed away late Thursday evening, June 28, 2012, at her country residence.
Lynne was born Sept. 17, 1952, in Chicago, Ill. , the daughter of Delvin and Verdine (West) Spencer. As an adult she moved to Southern Illinois where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education at SIUC and her master’s at Southwest Baptist University. She married Andrew W. Helmus on October 5, 1974, and had two children.
Lynne was tremendously proud of her children. She loved horses, the outdoors and dancing. She taught at Shawnee District 84 for over 30 years. Lynne had a passion for teaching young children and enriching their lives through multiple school programs and the Wolf Lake Swamp Rats and Silver Spurs 4-H clubs.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Andrew W. Helmus; two children, Amber and Drew; two brothers, Robert Spencer and Donald Spencer; and two nieces, Caitlin and Erin.
A celebration in her memory will be held after 5 p. m. Monday, July 2, in Von Jakob Vineyard, 230 Highway 127 N, Alto Pass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Lynne’s name to the ALS (www. alsa. org) or PKD (www. pkdcure. org) foundations.
Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence P. 'Bud' Colson
HERRIN -- Lawrence P. "Bud" Colson, 65, of Herrin, Ill. , died at 11:30 a. m. Saturday, Jan. 05, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Colson was a precision machinist at Ingersoll-Rand in Rockford, Ill. He was of the Pentecostal faith and a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1960-62. He was born Nov. 16, 1936, in Herrin, Ill. , to Lawrence Ernest and Beulah M. (Council) Colson. His final spoken words, "I Love You," were to his wife, Verna Mae Finney, to whom he was united in marriage on Oct. 14, 1960, in Killeen, Texas. She survives of Herrin. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry Colson of Royalton, Ill. , and Tom and Dianna King of Herrin; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Terri Lea and Bob Wynn of Crainville, Ill. , Ramona Wallin of Rockford, Ill. , Pamela and Rich King of Du Quoin, Ill. , Tiana and Mike Thomas of Painesville, Ohio, and Renata and Marvin Dewar of Du Quoin, Ill. ; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ron and Brenda Colson of Royalton, Ill. , and the Rev. Don Colson of Ferges, Ill. ; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mavis Reynolds of Ferges, Ill. , Lodema and Bob Ray of Thompsonville, Ill. , and Nadine Annis of Royalton, Ill. ; several nieces and nephews and his faithful pet, Buffy. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Gene and Leon Lane. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Meredith -Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, Ill. The Rev. Danny Bazar and the Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Herrin American Legion and VFW will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p. m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Clarence Dlubala
OAKDALE -- Clarence Dlubala of Oakdale departed this life at his residence at 3:47 p. m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002. He had attained the age of 49 years, 11 months and nine days. Clem was born at St. Louis, Mo. on Jan. 25, 1952. He was the son of Ted and Dorothy (Nee Rybacki) Dlubala. He was united in marriage to Annie Kabat at Las Vegas, Nev. on Nov. 20, 1985 and she survives his passing. Mr. Dlubala was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church at Nashville. He was a fork truck operator at Nascote Industries in Nashville. He also as engaged in farming. Clem was a veteran of the Army National Guard. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Annie of Oakdale; a daughter Robin Duecker and special friend Doug Reuter of Nashville; a son, Danny Dlubala of Oakdale; his mother, Dorothy Dlubala of Oakdale; one grandchild, Lainey Duecker; a sister, Janet Heseman and husband Dean of Nashville; his grandmother, Mrs. Alex Rybacki of Radom; his mother-in-law, Lorene Kabat of DuBois; two sisters-in-law, Pat Stern and husband Bill and Brenda Chesnek and husband Gary, all of Ashley; four brothers-in-law, Mike Kabat and wife Cathy of Tamaroa, Dave Kabat of Turtle Creek, W. Va. , Jim Kabat and wife Angela of Ashley and Ronald Kabat and wife Vickie of the state of Kansas; two God children, Justin and Angie Heseman of St. Louis, Mo. ; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ted, grandfather Alex Rybacki and father-in-law Leonard Kabat. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville at 10 a. m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, with Father Paul Wienhoff officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home of Nashville from 5 to 9 p. m. today and 7:30 to 9:30 a. m. Tuesday. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7 p. m. Monday. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Ann Renovation Fund or to the American Diabetes. Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Tony 'Scotty' Lokotich
JOHNSTON CITY -- Tony "Scotty" Lokotich, 82, died at 1:10 p. m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 10 a. m. Monday in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial, with graveside military rites by the Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home. A prayer service was held at 7 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home, conducted by Sister Catherine Wellinghoff. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Parish Center building fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Lokotich was a factory worker, retiring from Diagraph Bradley. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Marion VFW and the Buccaneer's Club. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and Johnston City Knights of Columbus. He was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Johnston City to Shreko and Frances (Dragovich) Lokotich. He married Josie Gagliano on May 25, 1942, in Johnston City and she survives. Other survivors include a sister, Frances Steinberg of Johnston City; a stepbrother, Bart Chopp of Winona, Texas; one niece, JoAnn McNeal of Johnston City; one nephew, Michael Lamb of Herrin; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sadie Jansco, Katherine Lamb and Eva Lokotich, two brothers, Steve Lokotich and Johnnie Chopp, and one nephew, Jan Jansco. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elmer Fred Hinnerichs
STEELEVILLE -- Elmer Fred Hinnerichs, 88, died at 9:41 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Sparta Community Hospital. He was born June 1, 1913, in Evansville, Ill. , to Henry and Elizabeth Hinnerichs. He married Norma Junge on Oct. 17, 1942, in Fort Knox, Ky. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Evansville, Ill. He also was a member of the B. B. K. American Legion Post 450 in Steeleville and Steeleville Eagles Aerie 3960 in Steeleville. He was a former member of the Steeleville Fire Department and a former member of the Steeleville Village Board. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include is wife; two sons, Ray Hinnerichs of Steeleville and Roger Hinnerichs of Norcross, Ga. ; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Hinnerichs of Mesa, Ariz. ,; and one sister, Opal Rehmer of Belleville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Jennifer Hinnerichs. Services will be at 11 a. m. Wednesday at Wilson's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Searby officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Friends may call after 6 p. m. Tuesday and from 7:30 a. m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Wanda Wells
MARION -- Wanda Juanita Wells, 90, of Marion passed away at 5:27 a. m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, in Herrin Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. today at the Meredith-Blue Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Null officiating. Visitation will be held at noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Wells was born on April 30, 1911 in West Frankfort, to John and Julia (Utley) Westray. She married Charles M. Wells on July 13, 1929, in Orient, and he preceded her in death in 1982. Survivors include her three sons, Charles E. and Valeria Wells of Creal Springs, Bill Gene and Nancy Wells of Murphysboro, Bob Dene and Linda Wells of Bakersfield, Calif. ; nine grandchildren, Bobby D. Wells, Larry W. Wells, David M. Wells, Bill G. Wells, Todd Wells, Michael Wells, Sabrina (Wells) Yearack, Isabella (Wells) Shannon and Lori (Wells) Clemmens; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter. Mrs. Wells was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker and loved to cook and travel.

Louise French Overfelt
SESSER -- Louise French Overfelt, 85, died at 1:57 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Franklin Skill Care Center in Benton. She had lived in Lakeland, Fla. , for 45 years until recently and had recently moved to Sesser to be with her daughter because of poor health. She was a retired employee at the Lakeland Manor in Florida. She was born March 29, 1916, in Pineville, Ky. , to Robert and Susie (Caldwell) Burns. She and her husband, Robert French, who died in 1980, were charter members of the Lake Gibson Church of Nazarene, formerly known as the Lakeside Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of Central Church of the Nazarene in Lakeland, Fla. She taught Sunday school and loved working in the nursery at church, cooking and raising orchids and violets. Survivors include her children, Betty Lou Parsons and her husband, Wendy, of Sesser, formerly of Bourbonnais, Ill. , and Jerry Botner and his wife, Mary, of Morristown, Tenn. , formerly of Lakeland, Fla. ; five grandchildren, Michael Parsons of Chicago, Monte Parsons of Bourbonnais, Wendy Jo and husband, Michael Melton of Lincolntown, N. C. , Joel and wife, Karen, Botner of Lakeland, and Debra and husband, Bryan Rice of Lakeland; and seven great-grandchildren. Six brothers, six sisters and one great-grandchild preceded her in death. Services will be at 11 a. m. Wednesday at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.

Rev. Claude L. Smith
ALTO PASS -- The Rev. Claude L. Smith, 73, of Alto Pass, died at 1 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Rev. Smith was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Murphysboro to Deleane Smith and Marie (Dixon) Smith Blankenship. He served many years as a minister and he was a carpenter. He was a U. S. , Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Ridge Farm, Ill. He married Jean Crain in Murphysboro, and she survives. Survivors include his wife; three children and their spouses, Dr. Rebecca Crain Smith and her husband, James Lee Gowler of Carbondale, Timothy Smith and his wife, Ruth Smith, of Alto Pass, and Daniel E. Smith and his wife, Angie Smith, of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Heath Tieffel of Peoria, Brady Smith of Alto Pass, Sawyer Smith of Alto Pass, Logan Smith of Jonesboro and Lindsey Smith of Jonesboro; one brother, Donald Smith of Alto Pass; and one sister, Betty Beckman of Murphysboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Delores Smith and Doris Smith. Services will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Thomas Hill officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery, with military services conducted at the cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p. m. Tuesday and until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Savino Giacomelli
JOHNSTON CITY -- Savino Giacomelli, 80, of Johnson City, died at 8 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Mr. Giacomelli was born March 12, 1921, in Johnston City to Clement and Maria Giacomelli. He was retired from Norge in Herrin. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U. S. Army. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Rolla School of Mines and Minerals in Rolla Mo. Survivors include a brother, Marcellino Giacomelli of Johnston City and several nephews and nieces. His parents and two brothers, Domenick and Steve, preceded him in death. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW at 9 a. m. Tuesday at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. There will be no visitation. Murman & Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Urban S. Ling
ELLIS GROVE -- Urban S. Ling, 88, of Ellis Grove, Ill. , formerly of Evansville, Ill. , died at 1:10 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at his home. Services will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis Grove, with Deacon Al DuBois officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Evansville. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p. m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a. m. Tuesday at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Evansville. Mr. Ling was born April 12, 1913, in Evansville to William S. and Dora B. (Thompson) Ling. He married Johanna LaBruyere on Oct. 5, 1938, in Evansville. Mr. Ling was a retired farmer and was employed in the Evansville area. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Randolph County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Denis and Doris Ling of Columbia, Ill. ; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and John Kinane of Columbia, Ill. , and Ina and Logan Ludwig of Bolingbrook, Ill. ; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Walter, Homer, Virgil, Rolla and Luther; and four sisters, Mabel, Florence, Phleta and Ina. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis Grove.

Eddie Jones
MOUNDS -- Eddie Jones, 86, died at 2:20 p. m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in the City Care Center in Anna. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at the St. Paul A. M. E. Church in Mounds, with the Rev. Bobby Crossland officiating. Burial will be in the Mound City National Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a. m. Tuesday at the church. Algee Funeral Home in Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.

Calvin Kessel
SPARTA -- Calvin L. Kessel, 67, of Effingham, formerly of Sparta, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at home. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Elmo, Ill. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p. m. Tuesday at Kessel Funeral Home in St. Elmo.

Vella Yarber
METROPOLIS -- Vella Mae Yarber, 62, of Metropolis, formerly of Cairo, died at 4:25 a. m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at her home. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Tuesday at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Louis W. Brinker officiating. Burial will be in Berkley Cemetery in Berkley, Ky. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p. m. today at the funeral home.

Kathleen McCowen
MOUNT VERNON -- Kathleen Casey McCowen, 78, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Waltonville, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, in Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Fry & Frick Funeral Home in Waltonville, with the Rev. Robert F. Freytag officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p. m. today at the funeral home.
