Lowell Foster
DONGOLA -- Lowell Foster, 90, of Mountain Home, Ark,, formerly of Dongola, died at 3 am Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 at Care Manor in Mountain Home. He was born March 12, 1912, in Dongola, Ill, the son of Walter W. and Augusta (Davis) Foster. He was married on May 18, 1935 to Gertrude Lasley. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1989. He later married Florence Kirkpatrick. Mr. Foster was a member of the First Baptist Church. He owned and operated Foster Pest Control. Survivors include his wife, Florence of Mountain Home; three grandchildren, Melodie Penrod of Dongola, Scott Houston of Jacksonville, Fla., and Pollyanna Smith of Gainesville, Mo.; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Melba Webb of Mountain Home, Ark. and Gladys Konsin of Racine, Wis.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by one son, Carroll W. Foster, one daughter, Patsy Houston, two sisters, Iverne Keller and Fern Zacharias, and one brother, Paul Foster. Funeral services for Lowell Foster will be at 10 am Friday, Aug. 9 at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm today, Thursday, Aug. 8 at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.

William L. Akin
MURPHYSBORO -- William L. Akin, 85, of Colville, Wash., died Monday, July 29, 2002, in Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. The body will be cremated. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tower Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Earl Renshaw officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Mr. Akin had worked for American Airlines. He was a member of AF&AM 498. He was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Murphysboro to Will and Eunice (Weber) Akin. He married Marsoen Moore on Sept. 13, 1942. She survives. Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Chris Akin of Colville; one sister, Louise Neal of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Brain Akin of Torence, Calif., and Craig Akin of Arcata, Calif.; one granddaughter, Katie Akin of Colville; one niece, Sandra Brown of Macomb, Okla.; and one nephew, Mike Tinkler of Fairview Heights.

Rebia May Tapley
CAIRO -- Rebia May Tapley, 93, of Cairo, died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at her home in Cairo. Mrs. Tapley was born May 30, 1909, in Oscar, Ky., daughter of the late William Burney Hendrick and Nellie (Raley) Hendrick. Mrs. Tapley was a member of the Tigert Memorial Methodist Church in Cairo, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter in Cairo, and was a housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Tapley was preceded in death by her husband, James H. "Bud" Tapley, on Oct. 18, 1967, and a son, James L. "Jimmy" Tapley, in 1969, a granddaughter, Sarah Jane Cange, in 1971, and by four brothers and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Cange of Milton, Fla., and Kathy Faulkner of Tamms; one sister, Evelyn Ligon, of Lebanon, Pa.; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three great great granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Rebia May Tapley will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill. with Mgnor. Bill McGhee officiating. Interment will follow in the Anna City Cemetery in Anna. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of the arrangements.

Lydia Neathamer
CAIRO -- Lydia E. Neathamer, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Florissant, Mo. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kelly Cox officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.

Danny Carner
JOHNSTON CITY -- Danny Ray Carner, 55, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in Pompano Beach, Fla. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, with military rites by the Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Sarah Poe
MARION -- Sarah Poe, 80, died at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Arrangements are incomplete at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

Dwight Sink
EWING -- Dwight E. Sink, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Revs. John West and Richard Lance officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Frisco Baptist Church.

Anna Anderson
BENTON -- Anna Lorene Anderson, 87, of 1210 S. McLeansboro St. died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Benton Healthcare Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Barbara Smith
EFFINGHAM -- Barbara Ruth Robinson Smith, 67, formerly of Simpson, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Lakeland Healthcare Center in Effingham. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Gilead Church near Simpson, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, and from noon-1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church.

Brent Roberts
JOHNSTON CITY -- Brent Eli Roberts, infant son of Matthew and Carmela Roberts, died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in Marion Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

MCLEANSBORO -- Sam Draper, 47, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard McCormick officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Virginia Wallace
BENTON -- Virginia Louise Conner Wallace, 64, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home, with Pastor Rod Joplin officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Linda Hickem
DU QUOIN -- Linda Hickem, 61, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Searby Funeral Home, with the Rev. M. Shaw DeMent officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
