James 'Leonard' Martin
HARRISBURG -- James "Leonard" Martin, 66, died at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at the Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Ozark Baptist Church in Ozark. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Little Saline Cemetery at Stonefort, with military rites by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legions. The Rev. Wirley Hendrix and the Rev. Clyde Livingston will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and can be left at the funeral home. He was born on Nov. 16, 1935 in McCormick to the late Oren Carl and Helen (Whitlock) Martin. He married Juanita Robison on March 19, 1960 and she survives. He was owner and operator of Karpet Korner in Harrisburg, Marion and East Cape Girardeau. He was a Marine veteran, a member of the Harrisburg Rotary, a former school board member of the Carrier Mills-Stonefort schools, and a member and deacon of the Ozark Baptist Church. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jamie and J. P. Rheaume and Missy and Alan Mattingly, all of Harrisburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lennie and Mary Martin of East Cape Girardeau and Stuart and Celeste Martin of Harrisburg; two brothers, Vincent Martin of Stonefort and Gary Martin of Marion; two sisters, Lenore Martin of Stonefort and Mary Templeton of Marion; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Renita Jackson, and one brother, Bobby Gene Martin.

Ronald L. Holcomb
ANNA -- Ronald L. Holcomb, 57, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Marion Memorial Hospital in Marion. He was born on Dec. 15, 1944, in Waynesville, Mo., to Leo and Ella Maxine (Daniels) Holcomb. He married Elizabeth Ross on Aug. 6, 1994. He worked for the past 28 years as Operations Manager for Holcomb Welding. Prior to that he had worked at Caterpillar in Aurora. He was a member of the American Welding Society. He was very patriotic and served his country honorably during peacetime with the U. S. Marine Corps. He participated in activities at the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Betsy of Anna; his mother, Maxine Carstens of Anna; two brothers, Barry (Teresa) Holcomb and Jim (Debra) Holcomb, both of Dongola; one stepson, Tracy (Cindy) Pearson of Anna; one stepdaughter, Sonya (Chris) Garver of Anna; four step grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Pearson and Cody and Hunter Garver; five cousins, Kevin Holcomb and Oliver Daniels, both of Anna, Babbette Holcomb of Cobden, and Tom Evans and Janie McFarland, both of West Frankfort; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services for Ronald L. Holcomb will be at 1 p.m. today at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery, with full military honors by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Anna.

Martha Eloise Jenkins
DU QUOIN -- Martha Eloise Jenkins, 83, of Edwardsville, formerly of Du Quoin, died at 12:52 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Neal-McClure Funeral Home, with the Revs. Bob Dickerson, Jim Donahue and Dale Clemens officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association. Mrs. Jenkins was born April 23, 1919, in Olean, Mo., to Harry and Laura (Sigrist) Rea. She married Robert D. Jenkins on May 18, 1940, in Eldon, Mo., and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1982. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Jenkins of Highland and George Dellmar and Katrina Jenkins of Balcatta, West Australia; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Richard Harr of Mililani, Hawaii, Roberta and Larry Johnson of Carbondale and Martha and Ken Ramsey of Edwardsville; one brother, Harry Rea of Bridgeton, Mo.; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, George; and one sister, Lila.

Louise Worstman Castagna
DONGOLA -- Louise Worstman Castagna, 81, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at her home. She was born on Dec. 19, 1920 in Dongola, to Herbert J. and Ruth L. (Leyerle) Worstman. She retired in 1981 from the University of Illinois. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Vienna. She is survived by good friends, Buck and Velda Brown; and second cousins, Susan (Eddie) Rogers. Graveside services for Louise Worstman Castagna will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the American Legion Cemetery in Dongola with Rev. Dare Aden officiating. Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.

Russell E. Stanley
DU QUOIN -- Russell E. Stanley, 69, passed away at 2:37 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Russell was a retired punch press operator at Turco Manufacturing. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Du Quoin and a life member of the DAV. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was born Jan. 28, 1933 at Du Quoin, the son of Martin Edward and Letha Jane (Kelley) Stanley. He is survived by a special friend, Doloris Williams of Du Quoin; six children, Leslie Anders of Du Quoin, Dennis Loucks of Du Quoin, Donna Howerton of Du Quoin, Lester Loucks of Du Quoin, Dodie Loucks of Du Quoin and Linda Bird of Pinckneyville; one brother, Ray Stanley of Du Quoin; two sisters, Imogene Stanley of Du Quoin and Dorothy Rice of Du Quoin; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Steve Bareis officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church Food Pantry and will be accepted at the funeral home. military graveside rites will be conducted by Du Quoin VFW Post 513.

Linda J. Joiner
CHRISTOPHER -- Linda J. Joiner, 61, died on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother Bert Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Hammond Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Joiner was born Sept. 6, 1941, in Christopher to Adolph Stritzel and Mary Howell. She married Ronald E. Joiner, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of the West City Baptist church. Survivors include her mother, Mary Howell; one daughter, June Zinck and her husband James of Fayetteville; two sons, Richard Joiner of Goreville and Kevin Joiner and his wife Regina of Benton; and four grandchildren, Jamie Zinck, Joshua Zinck, Lindi Jointer and Ashley Forbes. She was preceded in death by her father, Adolph Stritzel; one brother, Don Stritzel; and one sister, Sharon Kay Stritzel.

Lyda Swinferd
SPARTA -- Lyda Swinferd, 94, died at 1:38 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Randolph County Care Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in McDaniel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bud Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Randolph County Care Center Auxiliary.

Leroy Spangler
WOODLAWN -- Daniel Leroy Spangler, 66, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Denny Steed officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home.

Eugene Imhoff
CARBONDALE -- Eugene David Imhoff passed away at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Union County Hospital in Anna. Arrangements are pending at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.

Margaret Evelyn Halliday
CARBONDALE -- Mrs. Margaret Evelyn "Evelyn" Halliday, 77, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at home. Services and visitation were Monday at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale. Burial was in Lipe Cemetery in Carbondale. Mrs. Halliday was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Anna to Ava Webb Cavitt. She married Lloyd O. Halliday. He proceeded her in death on March 11, 1987. She is survived by three sons, Larry Halliday and his wife Mona of Carbondale, Michale Halliday of Carbondale and Mark Halliday of Shreve Port, La.; two daughters, Pat Stearns and her husband John of Carbondale and LaDonna Grisham and her husband Ken of Newburg, Ind.; a friend, David LaMarr; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Eugene Cavitt of Anna. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters. Memorials may be made to the Unity Baptist Church of to Haven of Love Drive in Makanda.

Mildred Smith
METROPOLIS -- Mildred Smith, 81, of Metropolis, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away at 6:44 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home, with the Rev. G. E. Coultas officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Gardens in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Lourdes Hospice, 616 Market St., Metropolis, IL.

Stanley Perkins
MOUNDS -- Stanley E. Perkins, 71, died at 3:52 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Services will be at noon Friday in St. John Praise and Worship Center in Pulaski. Interment will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Garden in Villa Ridge, with the Rev. Larry T. Barnett Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Massie Funeral Home in Cairo and from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the church.

Retta Josephine Fligor Hall
MURPHYSBORO -- Retta Josephine Fligor Hall, 93, of Cahokia, formerly of Murphysboro, died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Pettett Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Hall was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Grand Tower to Victor J. and Lodoskie Ellet Glodo. On Oct. 18, 1929, she married Lloyd F. Fligor in Harrisburg. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1976. On April 21, 1979, she married Herbert L. Hall in Murphysboro. He also preceded her in death. She was a nurse for several years and later worked at Century Sports in Carbondale. She was a member of Mount Carbon Christian Church, former member of Electa & Ruth Chapter of Eastern Star in Murphysboro and of White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 85 in Murphysboro. She was survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Loman Champion of Cahokia; two grandchildren and their spouses, Joyce and Richard Jenks of Peoria and Ray and Sue Champion of Columbia; a granddaughter-in-law, Debbie Woosley of Murphysboro; eight great grandchildren and spouses, Misty and Jim Butler of Murphysboro, Angie West of Peoria, Dena and Rob Gillis of Olney, Billy Rinker of Olney, Brian Champion of Chicago, Michelle McFadden of Columbia, Billy Woosley of Murphsyboro, and Brent Woosley of Murphysboro; seven great great grandchildren, Karlie Butler of Murphysboro, April, Devin, and Zane West of Peoria, and Jessica, Morgan, and Hannah Gillis of Olney; two sisters, Mary Pauline DeVita of Rockford and Nellis Knapp of Columbia; three brothers, Earlis Gordon Glodo of East Cape Girardeau, Ralph V. Glodo of Murphysboro, and Clarence Allen Glodo of Oraville; many nieces and nephews, including Mary Monroe, Lloyd Knapp, and Cindy Knapp; special friends like Fern and Wayne Hankins, who were like a daughter and son; and many other special friends including Margaret and Urban Butler of Gorham. She touched our lives in many ways but will always hold our special memories in our hearts.

Elsie M. Howie
CHESTER -- Elsie M. Howie, 91, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home. She was born to the late Edward and Maude (Leavitt) Beadorf, on May 29, 1911, at Ellis Grove. She was married to Eddie L. Howie on Oct. 5, 1929, at Chester, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1987. She was retired from International Shoe Factory in Chester and New Athens after 39 years. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Chester Senior Citizens, and Boot and Shoe Workers Union Local 718. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Mary Howie of Chester; a daughter, Virginia Long of Chester; a brothers, Edward "Slick" Bendorf, Jr., of Chester; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Glenn Long; grandaughter, Phyllis Ann Long; one brother; and four sisters. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kathryn Bielfeldt officiating. Burial will b in Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home Activity Fund, Chester Nutrition Site, or the donor's choice.

John William Paden
JOHNSTON CITY -- John William "J. W. " Paden, 76, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Johnston City, was called home by our Lord to join his parents, Matt and Mary, and grandson, John, on Oct. 17, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Eunice; father of Sharon Pedigo and husband, Harry, of Matteson, Terri Sommer of Woodward, Iowa, and Matt Paden, and wife, Harriet, of Temperance, Mich; grandfather of Bobby and wife, Suzanne, John, Tina, Stacie and Matthew; great grandfather of Kayleigh, Hannah and Andrea. He was a member of St. Catherine's Church in Sebring, Florida. J. W. was a veteran of World War II and served proudly under Admiral Halsey aboard the USS New Jersey (in addition to his combat duties, he was a distinguished member of Admiral Halsey's personal band). He later rose from a truck driver to vice president of Dundee Truck Lines until he retired at age 53, at which time he started his own cultured marble company. At age 55, he sold the cultured marble company to begin a retirement devoted to serious fishing and golfing . Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, we miss you dearly. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lakeview Cemetery, with Sr. Catherine Wellinghoff officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW. The Murman & Wilson Funeral Home of Johnston City is in charge of arrangements.

Henry A. Rahming
MURPHYSBORO -- Henry A. Rahming, 90, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Jeff Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro, with military rights given by American Legion Post 127 and V. F. W. #7190, both in Murphysboro, Post #2605 in Carbondale and Jackson County D. A. V. Chapter #69. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Rahming was born Feb. 1, 1912, in Murphysboro to Franz Rahming and Bessie (Schmidgall) Rahming. He married Louise Lockard on Oct. 7, 1933 in Pinckneyville. She survives in Murphysboro. He was a World War II veteran as a tank commander under General Patton in Germany and later a carpenter. He was a member of Murphysboro Lodge #498, A. F. and A. M., Murphysboro Rotary Club, Murphysboro VFW #7190, American Legion Paul Stout Post 127, Carpenters Union Local 638 and the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. He is also survived by two daughters and their spouses, Marsha and Bob Heiple of Gorham and Linda and Henry Scherich of Durham, N. C.; two sons and their spouses, Don and Karen Rahming of Murphysboro and Ron and Kathy Rahming of St. Joseph; two sisters, Florence Brandon of Murphsyboro and Clara Rigdon of Fulton, Mo.; five granddaughters, Sherry Thies, Julie Heiple, Autumn Rahming, Stephanie Rahming and Kelsey Rahming; three grandsons, Nathan Scherich and Bryan Scherich, Ryan Anthony Rahming; and one great-granddaughter, Abbey Thies. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a grandson, Ryan Rahming. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro.
