ANNA -- Louise K. Bradley, 87, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Union County Hospital in Anna. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Charles Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bramlett Smith
HERRIN -- Bramlett L. Smith, 90, died at 4:52 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Robert Oliver Hodges
VIENNA -- Robert Oliver Hodges, 81, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 15, 2002, at his home in Vienna, one day short of his 82nd birthday. Robert was born in Watts, Okla., on Oct. 16, 1920, the son of Oliver and Minnie (Casey) Hodges. Robert was united in marriage to Vera Louise Simmons on Nov. 29, 1941 in Tunnel Hill. Vera has been a loving companion and partner in his business ventures. In addition to his wife Vera, Robert is survived by two sons, James Oliver "Jim" Hodges and his wife Noretta of Vienna and Clyde Richard "Dick" Hodges and his wife Pamela of Anna; five grandchildren, Jerilyn Thompson of Dixon Springs, Joan Hodges of Carbondale, Michelle Hodges of LaJolla, Calif., Nathan Hodges of Hermosa Beach, Calif. and Heather Blackston of Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Kanack and Anna Thompson; and one sister, Elizabeth Timmons of Tahlequah, Okla. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Nell Grooms of Westville, Okla. Robert was a self-taught business man. His parents moved to the Parker City community in the early 1930's where Robert worked in the family restaurant serving railroad passengers. Robert was a World War II veteran, serving from 1943-1945 in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Taylor as a Second Class Petty Officer. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star, and the American Campaign Medal. After the war, Robert returned to Tunnel Hill and took over the operation of the family's Clover Farm General Store, expanding into radios and appliances. In 1949 he opened an appliance store in Vienna. He expanded into home furnishings and floor covering, and Hodges Furniture and Appliance, Inc. is still in operation at that same location along with a store in Anna. He was active in the operation until after his 80th birthday. Robert was a life member of the New Burnside Masonic Lodge No. 772. He was the past-president of the Johnson County Housing Authority, twice past-president of the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, and a past member of the Vienna Kiwanis Club. Robert was also a Kentucky Colonel. One of Robert's proudest accomplishments was the role he played in helping land the Vienna Correctional Center in Johnson County in the late 1960's. The foresight of the committee was instrumental in landing the VCC in one of the poorest counties in Illinois at a time when other communities were turning their backs on these institutions and the jobs that they would create. Robert was also a member of the Community of Christ (Webb) Church in Tunnel Hill. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 18, at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Elder Glenn Webb and Elder Kenneth Webb will officiate. Burial will be in the Webb Cemetery near Tunnel Hill. Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Community of Christ (Webb) Church, c/o Dale Hodge, 5860 Tunnel Hill Road, Goreville, IL 62939. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Carl L. Davis
CARBONDALE -- Carl L. Davis, 88, died at 7:28 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Davy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Dutch Ridge Cemetery in Pomona. Visitation will be until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association. Mr. Davis had worked for the former Todd's Laundry, then the former American Pants Factory in Carbondale and the former Phelps Dodge, which is now Penn Aluminum. He retired in 1977 from the laundry department of the Jackson County Nursing Home. Before he became ill, he attended Dutch Ridge Baptist Church in Pomona. He loved woodworking and gardening. He was born April 18, 1914, in Pomona Township to James and Mamie Estella (Forby) Davis. He married Paula Maze on Oct. 8, 1938, in Jackson, Mo. She survives. They just celebrated 64 years of marriage. Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Brenda Davis of Murphysboro; one daughter and her fiancee, Theresa Davis of Carbondale and Larry Howell of Murphysboro; one grandson, Shawn Davis of Murphysboro and his fiancee, Cheryl Heltsley; two great-grandchildren, Heather and Justin Davis, both of Murphysboro; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Bonnie Davis of Makanda; one sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and Carl "Darl" Berkey of Makanda; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, three brothers, Willard "Buster" Davis, James Theodore Davis and Johnnie "Dale" Davis, and one sister, Mabel Gibbs, preceded him in death. He will be missed by his family and friends, his dog, Lucky, and his cat, Goldie.

Angeline 'Angie' B. Nix
ROYALTON -- Angeline "Angie" B. Nix, 70, died at 7:50 p. m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Angie was born June 7, 1932, in Crystal Falls, Mich. to Andrew and Pauline (Gemo) Sandri. She married Robert Lewis Nix Feb. 4, 1961 in Chicago. He preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1993. She is survived by six sisters, Bertina Heybrock of Chicago, Irma Del Veccio and Mary Greco of Tuscan, Ariz., Prena Thomas of Lakeland, Fla., Edith Gustafson of Crystal Falls, Mich.; two brothers, Arthur Sandri of Chicago; Robert Sandri of Crystal Falls, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Betty Nix and Vivian Hodgeman of Royalton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Leo and Chester Sandri; and three sisters, Alta McCarter, Janette Mahoski and Esther Reno. She attended the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Royalton. She was a member of the Zeigler American Legion and the Eagles Club Auxiliaries and the Royalton Senior Citizens. Memorial graveside services for Mrs. Nix will be at 10 a. m., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 at Miners Cemetery east of Royalton, with Father Joseph Shrage officiating. Vantrese Funeral Home in Royalton is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Nix may be made to the St. Aloysius Church and will be accepted at the cemetery.

Raymond Eugene 'Dickie' Mason
CARBONDALE -- Raymond Eugene "Dickie" Mason was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Carbondale, to Vance Eugene Mason and Marie (Williams) Mason. He received his educational training in the Attucks Grade and High School. Graduating from Attucks High School. He joined Olivet Freewill Baptist Church and was baptized at a young age. He married Odessa McCroy Meeks in 1961, and later married Velma Canady. Dickie loved baseball, basketball, fishing and hunting. He was a Police Officer with the Carbondale Police Department until he moved to Denver, Co. While in Denver he met and married Charmine (Terry) Baca in 1978. He then united with the Antioch Church of God in Christ in Denver, Colo. Dickie owned and operated Domino Concrete Construction Co. for many years. Later he started driving Warner Trucks Coast to Coast until his health started failing him. He fought a good fight and he finished the course at 11: 20 p. m., Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in the Lutheran Medical Center in Denver, Colo. Our heavenly father, in His loving wisdom saw fit to allow Dickie's life to come to a close. His will must be done. He leaves to mourn his passing but cherish his loving memory his wife, Charmine, of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Lowell and Carlos of Denver, Colo.,and David of Carbondale; two daughters, Tanya and Twanda of Carbondale; his mother, Marie Mason of Carbondale; two brothers and a sister-in law, Jackie Mason of Killeen, Texas and Kenneth and Sandra Mason of Carbondale; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlesetta and Elder James Moore of Lawton, Okla., and Anita Gibbs of Carbondale; ten grandchildren, Ramon, Cameron, Deion, Azisha, Rayshawn, Nikcole, Andrionna, Artemus, Carlos, Jr. and Jason; two great-grandchildren; two nephews, Garry and Juan; one niece,Tina; and a host of cousins and friends. His father, Vance Mason; sister, Delores Pierson; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Mason; Missionary, Sallie Williams; and one nephew James "Jimmie" Mason preceded him in death. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Olivet Freewill Baptist Church, with the Elder Albert Ingram Jr. officiating. Jackson Funeral Home of Carbondale is in charge of local arrangements.

Marjory Lucille Dame
WOLF LAKE -- Marjory Lucille Dame, 82, of Chaffee, Mo., died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Chaffee, with the Rev. Cliff Day officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley, Mo. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Mrs. Dame was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 347 in Morley and Chaffee PEO Chapter CX. She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Sikeston, Mo., to Clarence Boardman and Martha Clark. She married Raymond Dame on July 25, 1937. He died May 25, 1984. Survivors include two sons, Gerald B. Dame of Wolf Lake and Philip R. Dame of Chaffee; two daughters, Martha L. Corn of Haysville, Kan., and Mary E. Ivy of LaBelle, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Her parents and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Ellena V. Snodell
CHESTER -- Ellena V. Snodell, 90, died at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester. She was born on May 12, 1912, to the late William Perry and Laura Belle (Voelker) McDonald in Kaskaskia. She married Earl Edwards, who preceded her in death on March 10, 1947. She then married Frank Snodell who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Chester and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired sales clerk in the jewelry department at Stix, Baer and Fuller in St. Louis. She also was a homemaker and she loved to garden. Survivors include two brothers, Bill McDonald of Alton and Paul McDonald of O'Fallon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands; three brothers, Andrew, Clyde and Waldo; and three sisters, Alma, Ina and Eulah. In accordance with her wishes, her remains will be cremated. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with Rev. Mike Fogerson officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chester Nutrition Site.

Iris Lynn Hampleman
THOMPSONVILLE -- Iris Lynn Hampleman, 57, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton with Rev. Jack Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home. Mrs. Hampleman was born Sept. 6, 1945 in Franklin County, the daughter of Steve and Capitola (Marchese) Stewart. She married Ron Hampleman on Sept. 11, 1965, and he survives. She was a respiratory therapist at the Miner's Memorial Health Center in West Frankfort. She had worked as a respiratory therapist for 26 years and was the Coordinator of the Black Lung Clinic at the U. M. W. A. Hospital and the Miner's Memorial Health Center in West Frankfort. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Scott Hampleman and his wife Judi of Valier and Mathew Hampleman and his wife Leslie of West Frankfort; one daughter, Christa D. Hampleman of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Michael Hampleman of Valier and Matison Hampleman of West Frankfort; one brother, Steve Stewart and his wife Cathy of Benton; one sister, Jayne Lau and her husband Richard of Alaska; two nephews, Greg and Sean Stewart of Benton; and one niece, Capitola Lau of Chicago. Mrs. Hampleman was predeceased by her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Black Lung Clinic, Miner's Memorial Health Center, 2553 Ken Gray Blvd., West Frankfort, IL 62896, and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Ruby Louvina Hobbs
HERRIN -- Ruby Louvina Hobbs, 81, died at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Herrin Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Van Natta Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Hobbs had been a seamstress for Smoler Bros. She was a member of the First Church of God. She was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Herrin to Earl and Martha (Bush) Rendleman. She married Dwayne Dwyer on May 16, 1939. He died during World War II in 1945. She later married Donald Allen Hobbs. He survives. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Harold Baggot of Santa Ana, Calif.; two grandsons, Christopher Bart and his wife, Amanda, of Decatur and Matthew Bart; two cousins, Clinton Rendleman and his wife, Marie, of Energy and Velma Smith of Herrin; one granddaughter, Kimberly Bart; one son-in-law, Steve Bart of Decatur; one sister-in-law, Helen Fitzgerald of Herrin; one close friend, Ruby Gresham of Herrin; one nephew, Michael Baggot and wife, Carol, of McKinleyville, Calif.; and three nieces, Deborah Bates of Ben Lomand, Calif., Sanndra Leifer of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Denise Hunter of Anaheim Hills, Calif. One daughter, Janet Bart, one brother, Fred Laverne Rendleman, and one sister, Lola Marie Rendleman, also preceded her in death.

Maedell Rose Schatte
AVA -- Maedell Rose Schatte, 75, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in St. John's Lutheran Church in Post Oak, with the Rev. Kathryn Bielfeldt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Saturday and from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Campbell Hill, and from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Mrs. Schatte was a homemaker. Mrs. Schatte was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Post Oak, St. John's LCW, Ava Senior Citizens and Campbell Hill American Legion Auxiliary Post 1096. She was a past matron of the former Campbell Hill Chapter 882 Order of the Eastern Star and was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. She was born Sunday, May 1, 1927, in Bremen to Alex and Rose (Hohgrefe) Eggemeyer. She married Albert Henry Schatte on Nov. 30, 1946, in St. John's Lutheran Church in Post Oak. He died May 28, 1985. Survivors include four sons, Allen Schatte of Campbell Hill, Larry Schatte of Rochester, Minn., David Schatte of Aurora and Dennis Schatte of Morningview, Ky.; seven grandchildren, James, John, Amanda Mae, Audra, Ethan, Hannah and Emily Schatte; one brother, Roger Eggemeyer of Mountain, Ark.; and one sister, Helen Norris of Dunn, N. C. Her parents, one daughter, one stepsister and her stepmother, Emma Eggemeyer, also preceded her in death.

Wanda J. Mines
SPARTA -- Wanda J. Mines, 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in McDaniel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bud Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Sparta Senior Citizens. Mrs. Mines was a retired hairdresser. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and was a board member at the Sparta Senior Citizens Center. She received an award for volunteering more than 1,000 hours at the senior center. She was born June 21, 1926, in Eden to Ernest Kloepper and Rhodean Belton. She married Mason V. Mines on June 6, 1942, in Perryville, Mo. He died April 22, 1997. Survivors include one daughter, Jeannette Guidish of Sparta; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mason "Buddy" Jr. and Gail Mines of St. Peter's, Mo., Roger and Pam Mines of Chester and Farley Mines of Marissa; one brother, William Kloepper of Joliet; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her parents, one brother and one sister also preceded her in death. She will be missed by many, many friends.

Helen P. Campbell
PINCKNEYVILLE -- Helen Pauline Campbell, 88, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg. Helen was born March 22, 1914, in Swanwick, the daughter of Paul and Lizzie (Mason) Vogel. She was united in marriage to Willard Campbell in Coulterville on Oct. 20, 1934. He preceded her in death March 30, 1989. Helen was a homemaker, seamstress and cook and had worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and a lifelong resident of Pinckneyville. Helen is survived by three sons, William Troy Campbell and wife Miamia of Biloxi, Miss., Roger Bryon Campbell and his wife Loretta of Belleville, and Howard Dean Campbell and his wife Sherry of Troy, Mo.; one daughter, Linda Lou Davis of Carbondale; eight grandchildren, Tim Campbell, Steve Campbell, Robin Pashia, Dan Campbell, Jason Campbell, Tabby Campbell, Dana Libby, and Jimmy Dean Davis; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Ollie Sims, Mabel Tate, and Lillie Monti; one brother, Delmar Vogel; and a grandson, Kevin Tod Campbell. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, with Bro. Rob Mathis officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery in Swanwick. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children.

Shirley Kent
BUCKNER -- Shirley Kent, 62, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Fairview Nursing Home in Du Quoin. The body will be cremated. There will be no services. Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kent was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was born Aug. 8, 1941, in Springfield, Mo. She married Quinn Allen Kent. He died Jan. 8, 2000. Survivors include one son, Jimmy Wayne Mauldin of Christopher; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Harold Hungate
MCLEANSBORO -- Harold Evan Hungate, 83, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Harre Funeral Home, with the Revs. Rob Walker and Scott Webb officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, near Macedonia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic rites by Macedonia Masonic Lodge 1128 AF&AM will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hattie Sanders
BENTON -- Hattie Sanders, 96, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in Benton Healthcare Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home, with Pastor Rod Joplin officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rose Hill
MOUNT VERNON -- Rose M. Hill, 65, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Nature Trail Healthcare Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Hughey Funeral Home.
