Norma L. Harrell
MOUNT VERNON -- Norma L. Harrell, 76, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hughey Funeral Home, with Randy Sells and Jamie Allen officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church. Mrs. Harrell was a homemaker, and had been a registered nurse at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. She was a member of Central Christian Church. She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Mulkeytown to Charles and Hazel (Milburn) Hill. She married Milford "Doc" Harrell on May 26, 1951, in Du Quoin. He survives. Other survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dick Harrell of West Frankfort and Tom and Tina Harrell of Martin, Ga.; one daughter and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Paul Hogg of West Frankfort; three grandchildren, Stasia Georges of Martin, Ga., Jennifer Hogg of West Frankfort and Kristy Dodd and her husband, Derek, of Clarksville, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Tadan Todd of Clarksville, Tenn.; one brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Arlene Hill of Steeleville; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Verble Swisher of Mulkeytown, and Pauline and Chuck Anheuser and Gerry Kowzan, all of Du Quoin; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, one son, James Roger Harrell, one brother, Les Hill, and one sister, Billie Castleton, preceded her in death.

Ruba G. Hicks
DE SOTO -- Ruba G. Hicks, 99, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Interment will be in De Soto Cemetery in De Soto. Visitation was Thursday, March 6, at the funeral home. Ruba was born Sept. 4, 1903, in Herrin to Charles Burgess and Nannie (Eberhardt) Sanders. She married Claude Jackson Hicks on June 4, 1932, at Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1980. She is also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Neva Eastman. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jo Hill of De Soto and Donna S. Jordan of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Cynthia S. McGhee of Oklahoma, Francis E. Hill of De Soto, Shaun M. Jordan of Austin, Texas, and Eric Alan Jordan of Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Robert Ryan, Ashley Sue, Nicholas Edward and Amber Nicole McGhee, all of Oklahoma. Mrs. Hicks was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Soto. Ruba worked as an elementary school teacher in various schools in the area. She often taught in one-room schoolhouses. She was a member of the Jackson County Homemakers Extension and the Retired Teachers Association.

Floyd 'Marvin' Hatcher
CUTLER -- Floyd "Marvin" Hatcher, 74, formerly of Cutler, died Monday, March 3, 2003, in Festus, Mo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Tri-County Pentecostal Church, with Richard Gaetz officiating. Burial will be in Cutler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. Hatcher had been a carman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a private first class in the Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Tri-County Pentecostal Church and Kaskaski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3553 in Chester. He was born Wednesday, Sept. 26, 1928, in Cutler to Floyd D. and Marjorie (Harrison) Hatcher. Survivors include one brother, Charles Hatcher of De Soto, Mo. His parents and one sister, Lillian Oedewaldt, preceded him in death.

Grace Blessing
ANNA -- Grace Blessing, 94, of Anna, formerly of Cobden, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Union County Nursing Home in Anna. She was born Nov. 6, 1908, in Makanda, the daughter of John and Surilda Batson Fulcher. She married Sidney T. Blessing on Oct. 26, 1934 in Marion. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1976. Two brothers, three sisters and a son, Donald Blessing, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Bob Nebughr of Cobden and Kay and John Kenner of Jackson, Mo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Anna Lee Blessing of Carterville; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Blessing of Fort Worth, Texas; six grandchildren, Lynn Hellman, Neil Nebughr, Andrew Kenner, Benita Blessing, Laura Blessing, and Stephen Blessing; and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anna. Services for Mrs. Grace Blessing will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Tim Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and until the funeral hour Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Cobden or to the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Earl L. Rogers
BENTON -- Earl L. Rogers, 91, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Pastor David Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Rogers was retired from Hiram Walker Distribution. He was a member of Howett Street Christian Church and the Masonic lodge, both in Peoria. He was born May 23, 1911, in Peoria to James Curtis and Francis (Gunsenheiser) Rogers. He married Flora M. Cooks. She died Nov. 5, 1978. Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Hastings of Valier, Judy Hastings of Benton and Sharon DoZark of Russellville, Ala.; one son, James Rogers of Streator; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, three sisters and one son, Earl A. Rogers, also preceded him in death.

Carl Goetting
STEELEVILLE -- Carl L. Goetting, 71, died at 4:45 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, in Sparta Community Hospital. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, with the Rev. Alan W. Janneke and Vicar Ryan Matthias officiating. Burial was in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was after 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville and from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Mark's Lutheran School. Mr. Goetting retired from Egyptian Electric Co-op as a maintenance engineer. He was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Steeleville, the Carpenter's Union of Chester and the IBEW Union at REA. Mr. Goetting was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Steeleville to Henry C. and Mathilda (Salger) Goetting. He married L. Maxine Waltermate on Feb. 17, 1951, at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. She survives. Other survivors include his children and their spouses, Mark L. and Susan Goetting of Murphysboro, Todd A. and Cindy Goetting of St. Joseph, Jody and Deb Goetting of Pinckneyville, Jay C. and Angela Getting of Rochester, Minn., and Stacy Goetting of Sparta; grandchildren, Amie and Joseph Goetting, Mitchell and Megan Goetting, Grace and Logan Goetting, Luke, Jordan, Lincoln and Mackenzie Goetting, Anna Mae, Emily and Jay McCray, and Jody, Jenna and Jacob Wingerter; and and two sisters, Adell Hinnerichs of Mesa, Ariz., and Ella Mae Gerlach of Steeleville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Richard Furlow
DU QUOIN -- Richard Furlow, 68, formerly of Mulkeytown, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Marshall Browning Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother Larry Clyatt officiating. Burial will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Furlow was retired from Five Star. He was born May 8, 1934, to Nova and Cleda B. (Clark) Furlow. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gail Spencer of Mulkeytown. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Mary O'Brien
ELDORADO -- Mary O'Brien, 77, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Fountain View Nursing Home. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Marys Catholic Church, with the Rev. Don Abell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or The American Cancer Society.

Mary Causer
HURST -- Mary E. Causer, 88, died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Herrin Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Walker Funeral Home.

Oleta Blozis
MOUNT VERNON -- Oleta Page Blozis, 93, died at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Johnston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Psrinkle officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kathleen Pritchard
SHAWNEETOWN -- Kathleen V. Pritchard, 90, formerly of Shawneetown, died Thursday, Feb. 27, in Pleasant Hill Living Center in Jackson, Miss. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Vickery Funeral Chapel, with burial in Reed Cemetery.

Cordelia Martin
HARRISBURG -- Cordelia "Pat" Martin, 89, formerly of Harrisburg, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Cabot Manor in Cabot, Ark. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Sloane Funeral Home in Galatia, with burial in Sunset Gardens in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ilene Elliott
MURPHYSBORO -- V. Ilene Elliott, 84, of Dallas Center, Iowa, formerly of Murphysboro, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Iowa. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Crawshaw Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

James Wilson Jr.
CUTLER -- James H. Wilson Jr., 70, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at home. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in McDaniel Funeral Home in Percy, with Brother Mike Higgerson officiating. Burial will be in Cutler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Vivian Clover
GRAND TOWER -- Vivian A. Clover, 81, formerly of Grand Tower, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Scott City, Mo. Arrangements are incomplete at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Grand Tower.

Charles Klingenberg
CENTRALIA -- Charles L. "Squeak" Klingenberg, 73, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in St. Mary's Hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter's UCC. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2055 and American Legion Post 446. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home in Centralia. Memorials may be made to the UCC.

William Williams
MURPHYSBORO -- William A. "Bud" Williams, 65, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003. Arrangements are incomplete at Crawshaw Funeral Home.
