George Y. Shingu of Mount Prospect
George Y. Shingu, 92, of Mount Prospect, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Los Angeles, Calif. Interment will be in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Shingu was born in Salinas, Calif., and had formerly lived in St. Louis. He was retired.
He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Michi Shingu; loving father of Barbara Shingu of Los Angeles, and Shirley Y. (Robert) Benos of Palatine; cherished grandfather of Kimberly and Nicholas Benos; and dear brother of Frank (Fumi) Shingu of Seaside, Calif.

Leonard W. Smith formerly of Elgin
Funeral services for Leonard W. Smith, 60, of Chicago, will be held at 1 p.m. today, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, Elgin. Dr. T. DeWitt Smith Jr. of West Hunter Street Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., will officiate.
Born Sept. 5, 1938, in Elgin, the son of Alonzo C. and Cyrene Smith Sr., he died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Burial will be private.
Following his graduation from Elgin High School in 1956, he served in the Navy. Mr. Smith retired from Carson Pirie Scott and Company after 25 years of employment as a buyer and sales associate. Leonard was an avid bowler and golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Letitia Smith, whom he married in 1988; daughters, Alisa (Sylvester) Smith of Elgin and Elanna (Gerald) Lindsey of Chicago; mother, Cyrene Smith of Elgin; brothers, Alonzo C. Smith Jr., Dionne (Linda) Smith and Gregory (Vicki) Smith, all of Elgin; sisters, Beverly (Odessa) Ross, Joyce (Willie) Scruggs, Dianne (the Rev.
Michael) McCall, all of Elgin, and Aretta (Dr. T.) DeWitt Smith Jr. of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Jeri Smith of Elgin; and grandchildren, Shawnte, Kevin, Danielle, and Jacqueline Smith, all of Elgin, and Joshua Smith of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Sheldon Smith and William T. Smith III; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services today, at the funeral chapel.

Luther F. Stanzel formerly of Rolling Meadows
Services for Luther F. Stanzel will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Aurora Community Church in Aurora.
He passed away peacefully in Sacramento, Calif., Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at the age of 78.
Luther was loved for his humor, kindness and free spirit, and he was very special to his children. Luther was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Dec. 30, 1920. He graduated from Ohio State University and served as a pilot in the Navy. He married Marilyn Schuster in 1950, and together they had three daughters, Holly Dyer, and Laurel and Lynn Stanzel.
In 1965, the family relocated to Rolling Meadows and Luther made a career in marketing with Clow Corporation until retiring. He spent his last years in Sacramento enjoying his motorcyle, gardeningand reading.
He is survived by his daughters, Holly Dyer and Lynn Stanzel; and was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, and daughter, Laurel.

Paul Sigfrid Swanson of Rolling Meadows
A memorial service for Paul Sigfrid Swanson, 67, formerly of Arlington Heights for 25 years, will be held at 3 p.m. today, at Northwest Covenant Church, Elmhurst and Isabella Ave., Mount Prospect. Rev. Herbert Jacobson will officiate.
Born March 7, 1931, in Chicago, he died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at ManorCare in Rolling Meadows. Private family interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines.
A resident of Rolling Meadows for the past 10 years, he was a 20-year administrative employee of United Airlines having retired in 1987. He was a very active member of Northwest Covenant Church and a Korean War Army veteran.
He wasthe loving husband of Marilyn L. (nee Johnson), whom he married on Aug. 22, 1959, at North Park Covenant Church inChicago; dearest father of Kathryn Ann Swanson of Wheaton and Craig Walter Swanson of Chicago; loving grandfather of Andrew and Matthew Mankivsky of Wheaton; fond brother of Siva Swanson of Rolling Meadows, Mary Bethel of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ray (Madice) Swanson of St. Charles, Herbert (Bette) Swanson of Glen Ellyn and the late Evert Swanson; dear brother-in-law of Elsie Swanson of Florida; uncle of many nieces and nephews; and dear son of the lateSigfrid and Edith L. Swanson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Northwest Covenant Kitchen Equipment Fund, Princeton Children's Home or Lydia Children's Home, c/o the funeral home.

Eleanor H. Wangen of Rolling Meadows
Funeral services for Eleanor H. Wangen, 76, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at The Meadows Funeral Home, 3614 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows.
Born May 16, 1922, in Evanston, she died Jan. 21, 1999, at Northwest Community Hospital. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum, Arlington Heights.
She was the wife of Robert A. Wangen; mother of Ronald E. (Kathy), Nancy J. Wangen, Alice Cross and Linda Phelps; grandmother of Kim and Anne Wangen and Robert Smith, Sandy Pennington, and James and Patty Cross; great-grandmother of two; sister of Marian Brazlawski, Deborah Wolfe and the late LaVerne Kimler; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Hildegard Elizabeth Webster of Palatine
In loving memory of our mother and grandmother, Hildegard Elizabeth Webster, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Northwest Community Healthcare, a memorial service will be held in San Francisco, Calif.
She was born May 12, 1914, in Hotenleben, Germany. A resident of Palatine for 19years, she was a member of TOPS, the Willow Creek Senior Citizens, and the Rolling Meadows Rolling Senior Citizens.
She was the beloved mother of Orland (Marcia) Webster and Carolyn Funk of Palatine; cherished grandmother of Kerry (Peter) Howard, Kristy (James) Lunardelli and Wendy Webster; and great-grandmother of Ashley, Jessica and Jimmy Lunardelli, and Justin, Bridgette and Peter Howard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orland Webster; parents, Henry Fricke and Emma Chandler; and brothers, John H. and O. Fred (Helen) Fricke.
We said our goodbyes to a very special and vivacious lady who will always be remembered in our hearts.

Marion C. White of Palatine
Funeral services for Marion C. White (nee Somerville), 72, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Presbyterian Church of Palatine, 800 E. Palatine Rd., Palatine.
Born Aug. 15, 1926, in Highbridge, N. J., she died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
Prior to the retirement of Mrs. White, she had been employed by District 211 at Conant High School in Schaumburg, where she had worked for more than 30 years. She was a member of the O. E. S. of Palatine Chapter #585 and wasone of the founding members of the Presbyterian Church of Palatine.
Survivors include her daughters, Lillis (Dale) States of Smithville, Mo. and Rachel (Keith) Hewitt of Trevor, Wis.; grandchildren, Ronald, Christopher, Sarah, Matthew, Daniel and Cameron; and sister, Lillis (Donald) Bowlby of Flemington, N. J.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis White in Oct. 1988.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.

Kenneth E. Yarwood Sr. of Elgin
Services for Kenneth E. Yarwood Sr., 82, will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, at First Congregational Church, 256 E. Chicago St., Elgin. Rev. Don Schmidt will officiate.
Born July 10, 1916, in Elgin, the son of Stuart and Emily Stuart Yarwood, he died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life and was employed bythe Elgin National Watch Company for 19 years and Western Electric for 22 years before retiring. He was a member of the First Congregational UCC of Elgin, 27-year member of Monitor Lodge 522 of Elgin and Cryptic Council Lodge 46.
Survivors include his daughters, Peggy A. (Richard) Vitacca of Loveland, Colo. and Kathryn E. Yarwood of Chicago;son, Kenneth E. Yarwood Jr. of Elgin; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara (Dr. Vance) Rogers of Lincoln, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Lenore Wright Yarwood in 1985.

Lillian A. Berntson of Carol Stream
Services for Lillian A. Berntson (nee Johnson), 91, also of Boca Raton, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
Born March 24, 1907, in Chicago, she went to be home with her Lord and Savior Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Johnson Healthcare Center in Carol Stream. Private interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago.
A resident of Windsor Park Manor, she was a longtime member of Bethel Community Church of Chicago and Boca Raton Community Church. She was wellknown as a devoted prayer warrior who upheld her family and friends in daily prayer.
Survivors include her husband and best friend, Stanley M. Berntson; daughter, Gail (Dr. Valdo) Oleari of Wheaton; son, Grant (Carol) Berntson of Palatine; grandchildren, Heidi (Kenneth) Oleari Ward of Burr Ridge, Joshua (Susan) Oleari of Chicago, Benjamin, Heather and Ariel Oleari all of Wheaton, and Kristen and Sherri Berntson of Palatine; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Ward; and brothers, Dr. Torrey (Evelyn) Johnson of Wheaton, Clifford (Elinor) Johnson of Asheville, N. C. and Eugene `Babe' (Florence) Johnson of Northbrook.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arling and Marshall Johnson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Robert T. Blohm of Des Plaines
Services for Robert T. Blohm, 63, will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Hwy., Mount Prospect.
Born June 14, 1935, in Lee Township, Allegan County, Mich., Mr. Blohm died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the Hospice House of Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
A plumbing engineer for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in Chicago, he was a veteranof the Army Engineer Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Blohm (nee McNulty); children, Gene (Patty), William (Anne) and Daniel Blohm, and Stacey (Paul) Hoffman; grandchildren, Robert and Jeremy; brothers, Richard (Rosemary) and Kenneth (Marie) Blohm; and sisters, Ruth Dickerson and Emily Martens.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services Monday, at the funeral home.

Jean A. Deering of Mount Prospect
Mass for Jean A. Deering (nee Van Patten), 78, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Road, Mount Prospect.
Born May 14, 1920, in Chicago, she died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Burial will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mrs. Deering was a retired secretary for a railroad.
She was the beloved wife of the late John, a retired Chicago police officer; loving mother of Kathleen (Robert) Kalish and Mary Ellen (Donald) Cameron; dear sister of the late Charles (Irene) Van Patten, the late Mary Egan Millar and the late Ellen Hannon; dearest grandmother of Kent, Kevin and Erin; fond sister-in-law of Mabel Kernan; and dear aunt and caring friend of many.
Jean will be remembered for her caring ways, her independent spirit and her keen sense of humor.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Hwy., Arlington Heights.
