CARTERVILLE -- Sara Elizabeth "Grandma Hiney" Hindman, age 87, of Carterville, passed away at 1:21 p. m., Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, surrounded by her loving family. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2003, at Riggin- Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Revs. Chuck Epperly and Dorothy Cook officiating. Burial will be in North Oakwood Cemetery
in Carterville. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Sara was born on July 2, 1915, in Carterville to George and Ethel Butts McEwan. She married Elijah Leoran "Hiney" Hindman on June 25, 1933. He passed away on Dec. 14, 1990. She is survived by two daughters, Rae Rich of Carterville and Ludene Cox and her husband Jim of Carterville; sister, Margaret and Jim House of Fenton, Mich.; granddaughter, Julie and Brad McCamish of Carterville; two grandsons, Jay Cox and Steve Rich both of Carterville; great grandsons, Sam and Brandy McCamish, Joe McCamish, and Andrew McCamish, all of Carterville; great-great granddaughter, Daisy Gretchen McCamish of Carterville; cousins, Betty Ghent of Centralia and Wanda Kirk of Carterville; sisters-in-law, Pauline Hernbeck of Marion and Genevieve Adams of Hillsboro and special care giver and good friend, Sally Mitchum of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents George McEwan and Joe and Ethel Adams; brothers, Bennie McEwan and Joe Adams Jr.; sister Agnes Mary Greer and son in-law, Jack Rich. Sara was a homemaker and devout Christian. She could be found spending an evening curled up to a good book. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and had a special place in her heart for little children and small animals. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Crainville Baptist Church.

WEST FRANKFORT -- Louise Odle, 84, of West Frankfort, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. She was born Feb. 21, 1919, in West Frankfort to David Walton and Emma (Brantly) Walton. She was married to Carl Odle on Sept. 11, 1934, in West Frankfort and he preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Harrington and husband, Jerry of Granite City; two sons, Don Odle of West Frankfort and Rick Odle of Romeoville; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Audry Leffler of Benton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; eleven brothers and sisters and one grandson. She was a founding member of the Faith Assembly Fellowship Church in West Frankfort. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Revs. Eugene Cowsert and Paul Leffler officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery

BENTON -- Devon Jason LaPointe, 16, of Benton, died at 12:51 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the St. Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau, Mo. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benton, with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. A private family committal service will be held at the Brady Cemetery
in Akin. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home. Devon was born Jan. 29, 1987, in Oceanside, Calif., the son of David Erland LaPointe and Wanda Wolf. He was a sophomore at Benton High School, a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, and enjoyed playing soccer in the Franklin County Soccer Association League. He is survived by his mother, Wanda Wolf of Benton; father, David LaPointe of Flint, Mich.; step-father, Daniel Francis Kalkstein of Cedar Hill, Texas; maternal grandparents, Willie and Mary Wolf of Benton; paternal grandparents, David and Jeannine LaPointe of Travers City, Mich.; step-grandparents, Donald and Ann Kalkstein of Mountain Home, Ariz., three half-brothers, David, Derek, and Dillon LaPointe; a half-sister, Michelle LaPointe; several aunts and uncles; cousins, Alice, Ashley, Andy, Dakota, Drey, Landon, Tanner, Zoe Belle and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

MURPHYSBORO -- Mary Louise "Lou" Cupp, 57, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at home. She was a professional dog groomer and a member of the Chicago Great Pyreness Club. Mrs. Cupp is survived by her husband, Lee Cupp of Murphysboro; four sisters, Kathy, Pixie, Linne and Eilene; a brother, Tommy Tomeny and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Tomeny of New Orleans.
