Dillon Matthew Starnes
HERRIN -- Dillon Matthew Starnes, 20, died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in an automobile accident. A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Harvest Time Worship Center, 1001 S. 17th St., corner of Grant and 17th streets, in Herrin, with Pastor Todd Hawk officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Memorials may be made to Harvest Time Worship Center, P. O. Box 700, Energy, IL 62933. Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin is in charge of arrangements. Dillon was born Dec. 24, 1982, in Herrin, to Michael D. and Sheryl Sears Starnes. Survivors include his parents of Herrin; one brother, Dusty; his grandmothers, Mary F. Starnes and Rosemary F. Sears, both of Herrin; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, William E. (Bill) Starnes and Ray D. Sears, both of Herrin. Dillon was a member of the Harvest Time Worship Center. He was employed by Ace Hardware in Herrin, and was a graduate of Herrin High School in June 2001. Dillon had a gentle spirit, made friends easily and was genuinely concerned for all the befriended. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

John Belik
ROYALTON -- John Belik, 79, of Royalton, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, in at Herrin Hospital. John was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Royalton, to Charles and Martha (Molnar) Belik. He married Lourdes Yandy on Sept. 24, 1991, in the Philippines. She survives in Hawaii. Other survivors include a son, John Gregory Belik; a daughter, Melinda Jean Belik, both of Hawaii; a brother, Charles Belik of St. Louis; a sister, Ann Durham of Sidney, Australia and several nieces and nephews. His parents; a sister, Mary Dohanich and a brother, George Popovich preceded him in death. John attended the Holy Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Royalton. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and was on the faculty at Brent International School in the Philippines. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and during the Korean Conflict where he achieve the rank of Lieutenant. He taught high school art in California, remained in the Navy reserves and retired after 40 years. He was a founding member of VFW Post 9892 in the Philippines and he was the curator of the Dundog Museum in the Philippines. Services for Mr. Belik will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at the Orthodox Church in Royalton, with Father George Gulin officiating. Burial will be at the Orthodox Cemetery, east of Royalton, with military rites by the Zeigler American Legion. Visiting hours are after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Church until the hour of the funeral services.

Terrill Holland Jr.
HERRIN -- Terrill Sterling Holland Jr., 18, of Herrin, died, Monday, July 21, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Herrin. Services will be at 11 a.m. today, July 23, 2003, at Riggin- Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Danny Norman officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Terrill was born on July 8, 1985, in Carbondale, to Terrill and Donna (Counce) Holland Sr. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Donna and Jeff Hammonds of Marion; father, Terrill Holland Sr. of Herrin; sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and Greg Overturf of Hurst; brother, Logan Scott Holland of St. Peters, Mo.; grandparents, Bob and Brenda Lence of Herrin, Ronnie and Romona Holland of Carterville, Byron Counce of Hurst, and Judy Hammonds of Carterville; great grandparents, Luetta Counce of Hurst and Dollie Varnum of Anna; special niece, Kendall Overturf of Hurst; girlfriend, Chasity Aaron of Cambria; several aunts, uncle, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Leona Counce; great grandfather, James Ed Counce; and aunt, Carol Ann Counce. Terrill worked at Triple E in Mount Vernon. He attended the Jubilee Tabernacle and the Cambria Apostolic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed going swimming, fishing and hunting. Memorial contributions can be made to Terrill's family.

Eva Bernice Crowell
CARBONDALE -- Eva Bernice Crowell, 88, died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in Murphysboro. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Violet L. Ledbetter
HARRISBURG -- Violet L. Ledbetter, 84, died at 9:55 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Sunset Lawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Widicus officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. She was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Elkville, to Leo Swan and Mary O'Brien. She married Archie Ledbetter on Aug. 17, 1946. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Archie Ledbetter of Harrisburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Nancy Ledbetter of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Ashley and Brad Ledbetter; and several nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Homes and Opal Swan.

Walter W. Odum
HARRISBURG -- Walter W. Odum, 70, died at 3:44 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Reed Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Garden Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association.

Mark Steven Sailly
THOMPSONVILLE -- Mark Steven Sailly, 53, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, in Benton. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Stone Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Schlag officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner, with military rites by Orient American Legion and West Frankfort VFW. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Colon Cancer Research and will be accepted by the funeral home.

Robert Freeland
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -- Robert Freeland, 77, of Paris, Tenn., died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, in Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in Jackson, Tenn. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in VanDyke Cemetery in Paris, Tenn., with Clergy Johnny Adkins officiating. There will be no visitation. Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris, Tenn. is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie McAnelly
MARION -- Marjorie G. (Reilly) McAnelly, 84, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion, with Pastor Jeff Baker officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Energy. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lloyd Hinkle
ANNA -- Lloyd Hinkle, 68, died at 1:40 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Union County Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. LaRue Parr officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Josephine Tony
CARBONDALE -- Josephine Tony, 88, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Kenneth Mixen officiating. Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Mary Tripp
ANNA -- Mary E. Tripp, 80, of Pueblo, Colo., passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2003, in Pueblo, Colo. She was born Jan. 26, 1923, near Anna to Frank Ulysses and Elvie Ann Clutts Parker, the youngest of six children. She was married Sept. 8, 1939, to Charles D. Tripp in Jackson, Mo. She was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church. Before coming ill, with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and subsequently moving to live with her daughter in Colorado, she actively visited shut-ins and friends in nursing homes. She was well known for her delicious cooking, and delivered many of her dishes and baked goods to those unable to cook for themselves or those who needed some comfort food. Surviving her are a daughter and husband, Rosemary Ann and Dr. Ken Plonkey of Pueblo, Colo.; a grandson, Lane Hapke of Boulder, Colo.; a granddaughter and her husband, Terri A. and Richard Parks of Calhan, Colo.; three great-grandsons, Cody and Logan Hapke of Broomfield, Colo., and Dalton Gentry Parks of Calhan, Colo.; one great-granddaughter, Natalie Jenay Parks of Calhan, Colo.; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, an infant, and George W.; three sisters, Mae Sitter, Alice Ballard and Wanda Sitter; and a grandson, Brian Lee Hapke. During their marriage, she and Mr. Tripp lived in E. Peoria, Vienna, Chester, Anna, and Colorado Springs, Colo. Services for Mary E. Tripp will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003, at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Scott Harner and Dale Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Friday at the funeral home.

Mark Sailly
THOMPSONVILLE -- Mark Steven Sailly, 53, of Thompsonville, departed this life Sunday, July 20, 2003, in Benton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Stone Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Schlag officiating. Interment will be in Harrison Cemetery at Buckner. Friends of the Mark Sailly family may visit after 6 p.m. today, July 22, 2003, at Stone Funeral Home. military graveside rites will be conducted by Orient American Legion and West Frankfort VFW. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Colon Cancer Research and will be accepted at the funeral home at any time. Mark was born Sept. 2, 1949, in Christopher, a son of Gene and June L. (Parlett) Sailly. He married Tami Caraway on Sept. 1, 1978, in West Frankfort. He was an Army veteran serving in Vietnam. Mark was an electrician, having worked for Joy manufacturing in Mount Vernon and Technicolor Universal Multimedia Services in Pinckneyville. He was also a member of UMWA and IBEW. Mark also loved NHRA Drag Racing and fishing. Survivors include wife Tami Sailly of Thompsonville; daughter, Bobbi Sailly of Thompsonville; parents, Gene and June Sailly of West Frankfort; brother, Larry Sailly and wife Gail of Port Orchard, Wash., sister, Janet McLean and Eau Claire, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mark was loved by all, and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

Joseph Aspley
CHESTER -- Joseph Fred Aspley, 49, of Round Lake Beach, formerly of Chester, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at home. Private services will be held today, July 22, 2003. Memorials may be made to Touch of Nature through Schroeder-McClure Funeral Chapel.

Virgil L. 'Mot' Motsinger
MARION -- Virgil L. 'Mot' Motsinger was born Nov. 3, 1919, to Walter E. and Bertha (Allen) Motsinger in Marion and passed away, July 14, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz., at age 83. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Clara B. (Baggett) Motsinger, in 1990, and is survived by his two daughters and their husbands Carole and Tom Pyle of Tucson, Ariz., Brenda and Harvey Barnes of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; one son, Commander Joe A. Motsinger, USN (retired) of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 17 nieces and nephews; his sister, Eloise Lavender of Murphysboro; and a close friend, Mary S. Harlingen of Tucson, Ariz. Mot was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He retired as a truck driver for Aero Mayflower Transit Company, after driving for 31 years. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Kanmar Place, Casa De La Luz Hospice, 400 W. McGee Road, Tucson, AZ 85704. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony next to his wife, Clara, in East Lawn-Palms Cemetery in Tucson. This announcement has been placed by Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro.
