Gary McClellan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Marteeny
DIX -- Mildred Arnella Marteeny, 86, died at 7:09 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Boyd Christian Church, with Bruce Hough and Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Memorials may be made to the church building fund.

Louie Earl 'Bud' 'Snoopy' Grammer
MARION -- Louie Earl "Bud" "Snoopy" Grammer, 54, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, in St. John's Breech Medical Center in Lebanon, Mo. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Don Colson and Pastor Cindy Freeland officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Marion, with military rites by Marion VFW Post 1301. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mr. Grammer was born Aug. 31, 1948, in Murphysboro, to Louie Earl and Maeceal Benton Grammer. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Tammy and John Simmons of Johnston City, Teresa and Steven Hilliard of Marion, and Tracy Grammer of Marion; a son, Brian Grammer of Marion; three grandchildren, Megan Simmons, Cameron Bond and Hailey Hilliard; his mother and stepfather, Maeceal and Shirley Yearian of Oraville; three sisters, Sandy Cherry of Kentucky, Helen Murphy of California, and Leveda Mae Grammer of Missouri; the mother of his children, Patricia Grammer; and his loving companion and her family, Brenda Kay Crain, Clyde Stevenson, Richard and Dana Taylor and Dustyn and Autumn Taylor. He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters, Virginia and Carol Jean, and a brother, Johnny Grammer.

Jewell Simmons
HERRIN -- Jewell Simmons, 90, died at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Van Natta Funeral Home, with the Rev. Zane Neely officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Jewell was born in Herrin to James William and Mabel (Mason) Daffron on Sept. 14, 1912. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mildred Woodson of Carterville; three nieces and their husbands, Pat Daffron-Pearce and Bob Pearce of Glendale, Ariz., Beverly Dafron-Bowles of Herrin and Dixie and Mike Carney of Carterville; four great-nephews and their wives, Richard and Mary Pearce of Sun City, Ariz., Randy Pearce of Glendale, Ariz., John and Kim Barwick of Carterville and Mark Carney of Carterville; two great-nieces and their husbands, Jacquelyn and Terry Moore of Marion and Amy and Ron Simpson of Carterville; ten great-nieces and great-nephews, Gina, David, Darin, Shelly, Katie, Julie, Millie, Michael, Jame and Bob; and good friend and neighbor, Donna Wilson of Energy. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben Simmons; and one brother, Orville Daffron. Jewell was loved very much by family and friends and she will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Richard Gantz
WEST FRANKFORT -- Richard Allen Gantz, 65, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort. There will be no visitation. Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort is in charge of arrangements.

Jewell McKee
HERRIN -- Jewell Belcher McKee, 77, of Kelseyville, Calif., formerly of Herrin, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in her home. Jewell fought a valiant fight against cancer, but her life's motto was, "When God is ready for me, I am ready for Him." For 35 years she was lead technician at Varian Associates in Palo Alto, Calif., working on the Night Vision Goggle Project. She retired in March 1990. She was president of Kelseyville Senior Citizens and served on the Clear Lake Gleaners Board of Directors. She will be missed as the lady who was there to do whatever she could for anyone in need. Jewell furnished Cuddly Bears for Lake County abused children. She was well known as Kelseyville's Imelda Marcos for the hundreds of shoes she owned. Jewell was born May 9, 1926, in Sunnyside in Herrin to Earl and Opal Belcher. She is survived by her daughters, Judi Mello-Anderson and Suzanne Coleman (adopted), both of Kelseyville; a brother and sister-in-law, James D. and Beverly Belcher of Wycliffe, Ky.; a grandson, Derek Mello of Fremont, Calif.; two great-granddaughters, Kyllie and Peyton Mello of Fremont, Calf.; three nephews and their families, Paul "Skip" Wooten of Kelseyville, Calif., Dan and Bonnie Belcher and children, D. T., John Curtis, and Ethan, all of Barlow, Ky., Michael Ridgway and daughter Ruby Jane, both of Carbondale; nieces and their families, Yolanda and Bobby Myers and children, Jamie and Paige Kirkpatrick and Camden, Keith and Todd Myers, all of Royalton, Debbie Howser and children, Erica, Brian and Allison Travelstead, all of Herrin, Aleta Dowell and son, Joshua and Brandon Lusby, all of Maryland, Cheryl and Roger Griggs and children, Roger Jr., Paul and Jesse and his wife Lindsey, all of Greenville, Tenn., Loretta and Danny Crisel and children, Tabetha Ranson and Carol Ann Lamb, all of Mumford, Tenn.; three grand-nieces and a family, Joan Wooten of Kelseyville, Calif., Rachel Galloway of Shawnee, Kan., and Becky and Sean Cheek and daughters, Elizabeth Ann and Mary Katherine Cheek, all of Omaha, Neb.; and special friends, Jeanette Sollami, Jewell Dean Murphy, Mary Farley, and Claude and Alice Smith, all of Herrin. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Earl T. "Boy" Belcher; and one sister, Helen J. Ridgway. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Union Gospel Mission in Herrin. A luncheon will follow. The family wishes to express thanks and appreciating for your prayers, kindness and loving words of sympathy. In lieu of flowers, expressions of love may be made to Hospice or the charity of choice.

Walter Lindenberg
PERCY -- Walter Lindenberg, 72, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Memorial Hospital in Chester. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill, with the Rev. Howard Ellis officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in McDaniel Funeral Home in Percy and then in the church. Memorials may be made to the American Bible Society or St. Luke's Cemetery Fund.

Edna Jeralds
HURST -- Edna Jeralds died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in her home. Arrangements are incomplete at Walker Funeral Home in Hurst.

Albert Stritzel
JOHNSTON CITY -- Albert "Huck" Stritzel, 91, died at 6:33 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in his family home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Sister Catherine Wellinghoff officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Parish Center Building Fund, envelopes are available at the funeral home. Albert "Huck" Stritzel was born on November 14, 1911, in Blocton, Ala., the son of Martin and Fannie (Parober) Stritzel. Huck was a World War II veteran in the Pacific theater. He was a radar operations technician. He enjoyed working his garden, mowing the lawn, and working around the yard, that is, while he was able. He always enjoyed sports and was an avid baseball fan. While he enjoyed baseball in general, he especially rooted for the Cardinals and Cubs. Huck enjoyed telling stories about the old times in Johnston City and Chicago, particularly the baseball and soccer that he played as a youth in Johnston City and Southern Illinois. He recounted many tales about the individuals that he played with or those who managed the teams he played on. Huck never married, but was much loved by all of his nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Matt Stritzel was a special cousin of Al's. Al appreciated the help he received from Matt when he retired and moved back to Johnston City. Huck also had a special bond with his caretaker Lois Moore. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Stritzel of Walla Walla, Wash.; one sister, Elizabeth Kopach of Sun City, Ariz.; three nephews and three nieces and their spouses, Rudolph and Florence Shum of Schaumburg, John and Peggy Shum Jr. of Johnston City, Linda and Ed Dasso of Long Grove, Pat Lukasczewski of Naperville, Donna and Jim Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz., and Martin "Marty" and Pamela Kopach of Lake Forest; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. His parents; four brothers, Frank Stritzel, Andrew Stritzel, John Stritzel, Rudolph Stritzel; two sisters, Mary Shum and Ann Benson; and grand-nephew, David Shum, preceded him in death.

Lawrence Weber
MARION -- Lawrence Weber, 71, died at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in Heartland Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Maple Funeral Home in Channahon. Burial will be in Willard Grove Cemetery in Channahon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of local arrangements.

Mark Finley Loomis
ANNA -- Mark Loomis, 49, of Belleville, formerly of Anna, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in his home in Belleville. Visitation for Mark will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. His funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in the funeral home. Mark was born June 11, 1954, in Chicago, to Dr. Carroll and Nola Faye Loomis of Anna who survive. He is the beloved older brother to Ben Loomis of Carbondale, Rebecca Loomis, M. D. of Clermont, Ga., Dan and Sarah Loomis Mack, M. D. of Grayson, Ga., Mary K. and Nicholas Loomis and her son of Clermont, Ga., Mark and Kari Loomis Hedin of Atlanta, Ga., and John Loomis. Mark was a CPA employed by the state of Illinois. Mark attended early grade school in Michigan. When he was 9 years old, the family moved to Ethiopia, where he continued school until 10th grade. He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1972. He attended University of Illinois for four years and then transferred and graduated cum laude from Georgia State University in Atlanta with degrees in accounting and finance. Mark completed requirements for certified public account at SIU in Carbondale in 2000. Mark had wide-ranging interests. He was an avid swimmer and while living in Atlanta, he ran six Peachtree Road Races. Mark volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Atlanta and did carpentry work with a group called the Mad Housers, who built homeless shelters. This year in Belleville, he faithfully attended concerts of the St. Louis Symphony. Mark attended the Lutheran Church in Belleville and was a frequent visitor at the Presbyterian Church in Cobden. Mark had strong writing skills. Just two months ago, he represented the family as he gave a tribute to his parents on the occasion of their golden anniversary. Mark was loved by family and friends, who appreciated his gentle compassionate nature, creative mind and wonderful sense of humor. Mark played an important role as uncle to Nicholas Loomis, who adored him. Mark will be sorely missed by the Loomis family, as well as by his friends and coworkers. Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Packard
MOUNDS -- Robert Packard, 72, of Cambridge, Wis., died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cambridge, with the Rev. Kevin McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Oakland, Wis. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nitardy Funeral Home in Cambridge, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson County, Cambridge EMS, or the Cambridge Foundation. Raymond K. Roberson
BENTON -- Raymond K. Roberson, 57, died at 3:57 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Franklin Hospital in Benton. He was born in Wayne, Mich., on Dec. 20, 1945, the son of Elwood and Ellen Fern Clayton Roberson. He married Shirley A. Pyszka on Oct. 29, 1966, and she survives. Raymond was formerly a partner in the operation of Tri City Ready Mix. He was a member of the Williams Chapel Church in Ewing. Raymond was also a member of the Benton Elks, the Boneyard Boccie Club and he was an avid fisherman and he loved to hunt. Raymond is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Roberson of Benton; a daughter and her fianc, Kim Roberson and Jim Cordery of Springfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Frank Harwood of Mount Vernon; mother-in-law, Anna Pyszka of Benton; two sisters-in-law, Linda Roberson of Benton and Paula Metzger and her husband John of Benton; three nephews and their wives, Brian and Donna Roberson, Brett and Cheryl Roberson and Mark Becherer; one niece and her husband, Ann and Mark Satterfield; three great-nephews; and his beloved dog, Gabby. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Dale Carson officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. For those who wish, memorials in Raymond's memory may be made to the Benton Elks Crippled Children Fund.

Henry O. Rogers
OLMSTED -- Henry O. Rogers, 89, died at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in the Union County Hospital in Anna. Mr. Rogers was born July 24, 1914, in Golconda, the son of the late Charles G. and Grace Trial Rogers. Mr. Rogers was of the Baptist faith and an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Rogers retired from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., as a lawn keeper and gardener. Survivors include a brother, Clifford Rogers; a sister, Dorothy Baines, both of Michigan; caregiver and friend, Linda Kerr and family of Mound City; nieces and nephews. Graveside memorial services will be at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Mound City National Cemetery, with the Rev. Travis Rose Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the cemetery with full military honors by members of the Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds. Memorials may be made to the Olmsted Library in memory of Henry O. Rogers. Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Della Pinkham
WEST FRANKFORT -- Della Pinkham, 92, of Pekin, formerly of West Frankfort, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, in Peoria. Arrangements are incomplete at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home.
