ZEIGLER -- Betty June Branch, 73, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Van Natta Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Florence E. 'Eppie' Permentier
BENTON -- Florence E. "Eppie" Permentier, 69, of Indianapolis, formerly of Benton, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003, in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, in Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in Benton, with Pastors Roger Ellsworth and Larry Odum officiating. Burial will be in the Logan Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Permentier was born on June 2, 1934, in Logan, the daughter of Raymond and Florence (Mocaby) Bandy. She married Kent Permentier on Dec. 23, 1993 and he survives. She was a housewife. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Renee and Noble Linn of Jasper, Ala., Kendra and Rodney Miller of Benton and Lisa J. Stella of Benton; a step-daughter, Sandra M. Permentier of Normal; a step-son, Scott M. Permentier of Chicago; five grandchildren and one husband, Melissa and Dale Wes Williford of Macedonia, and Lindsey, Mallory, and Reid Miller and Caitlyn Stella, all of Benton; two great-grandsons, Wes and Dalton Williford of Macedonia; five sisters; five brothers; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Permentier was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Heart Institute or the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Jeanette Parker Choate
GRAND CHAIN -- Jeanette Parker Choate, 78, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Ohio Chapel United Methodist Church near Grand Chain. Burial will be in Ohio Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday in the church. Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Mitchell
STONEFORT -- Julia Mitchell, 87, died at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Burial will be in Trammel Cemetery near Stonefort. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Gertrude Carr
HARRISBURG -- Gertrude Carr, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Harrisburg Public Library.

Joseph Anthony Congiardo
CHESTER -- Joseph Anthony Congiardo, 79, passed away 7:55 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in Chester Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Salvatore and Theresa (Concialdi) Congiardo on Dec. 3, 1923, in Willisville. He was married to Anna L. Smith on January 15, 1949, in New Orleans, La., and she survives. Joe was a retired carpenter from Carpenter's Local 1361. During his 50-year membership with Carpenter's Local 1361, he served as the business representative for 27 years and as recording secretary. He also served as a delegate to the Southern Illinois District Council; trustee to the pension fund; executive board member for the Illinois State Council of Carpenters, representing the 8th District; delegate and recording secretary for the Randolph County Building Trades; and delegate to the Illinois State Council of Carpenters. He also served on the Board of Business Representatives, Heavy and Highway Negotiating Committee, District Council Negotiating Committee, Apprenticeship Committee, and Man-Power Commission of Illinois. He served as commissioner on the Randolph County Housing Authority for 27 years, and was a vice-chairman the housing authority. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. Mr. Congiardo was a member of Chester Moose Lodge 1764 (charter member), American Legion Post 480 in Steeleville, Masonic Lodge 72 in Chester, and he was a past member of Chester Eagles Aerie 3252. He had also coached American Legion League and Babe Ruth League Baseball Teams. Survivors include his wife, Anna Congiardo of Chester; three children and their spouses, Larry and Sharon Congleton of Chester, Alan and Brenda Congiardo of Chester and Carol and Don Trader of Ellis Grove; two brothers, Frank Congiardo of Jackson, Tenn., and Mike Congardi of St. Louis; one sister, Madeline LaMarr of Bourbonnais; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Congleton, Tracy Congleton, Brian and Jodi Congiardo, Christopher Congiardo, Nicholas Congiardo, Brandy Congiardo Sterling, Christopher Trader, and Kimberly Mott; two great-grandchildren, Brittany Sterling and Derek Mott; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Pete and Tony Congiardo and two infant brothers. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester with Monsigner Dennis Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester or Knights of Columbus 3790 in Chester.

The Rev. Rolla Eller
MOUNT VERNON -- The Rev. Rolla Curtis Eller, 90, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in Nature Trail Home in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with the Rev. Olen Weatherford officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Union Chapel Cemetery and will be accepted by the funeral home.

June Vuichard
COULTERVILLE -- June Vuichard, 68, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Grandcote Reformed Presbyterian Church, with Brother Karl Barnfield officiating. Burial will be in Coulterville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Coulterville and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Memorials may be made to the church.

Delaney 'Dee' (Dorris) Robinson
MARION -- Delaney "Dee" (Dorris) Robinson, 68, of Marion, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Bob Wagner and the Rev. Andrew Lee officiating. Burial will be at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Paducah. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church in Marion or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent to Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Robinson was born Aug. 8, 1935, in Coffeeville, Miss., to Murry Pete and Lura (Summers) Dorris. She married Harry Don Robinson on May 7, 1973, in Crab Orchard. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1988. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Kendra Lee of Ziegler, Mike and Mary Lee of Lewisville, Texas, and Floyd and Darlene Lee of Paducah, Ky.; daughters and sons-in- law, Gail and Kevin Cox of Marion and Joann and Sam Miller of Carterville; step- daughters, Patti and Rick Chick of Marion and Gayla Hendrickson of Madison, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Jessie Dorris of Longview, Texas, Murry Dorris of Utlima, Fla., and Dale Dorris of Enid, Miss.; sisters, Lafaye House of Wickencliff, Ariz. and Gwen Lawrence of Mississippi; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Cherri Boyle. Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Marion. She worked as a home health care nurse's assistant, retiring after several years.

O. J. Tretter
MURPHYSBORO -- O. J. Tretter, 85, passed away at 2:47 a.m. Sunday, August 24, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. today, Aug. 27, 2003, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Murphysboro, with Father Gary Gummershei mer officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, with military services conducted by the American Legion Post 127, VFW Posts 7190 and 2605, and the Jackson County Disabled American Vets Chapter 69. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew School. He was born on April 20, 1918, in Johnston City to Joseph and Mary (Visitainer) Tretter and was raised near Jacob. Mr. Tretter was a local business man and an International Harvester Dealer. He had operated some grain elevators and had other business ventures. Most recently he had been co-owner of the post office. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II where he was a topographic engineer. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following the war, he served in the reserves for several years. Mr. Tretter was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 127. He married Zeronel Lively on January 6, 1951, in Ava, and she survives. Other survivors include one sister, Irma Adams of Florence, S. C.; several nieces and nephews, including Gary Tretter and his wife Jane, Linda Hines and her husband Roger, and Violet Mae Sissie Smith of Herrin; several great nieces and great nephews; one brother-in-law and his wife, Terry and Dorothy Lively of Herrin; two sisters-in-law, Martha C. Dillow and Frances Tretter, both of Murphysboro. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Reno Tretter of Chester and Arthur Tretter of Murphysboro; and his parents. Pettett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Albert Stritzel
JOHNSTON CITY -- Albert "Huck" Stritzel, 91, died at 6:33 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in his family home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Sister Catherine Wellinghoff officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Parish Center Building Fund, envelopes are available at the funeral home. Albert "Huck" Stritzel was born on November 14, 1911, in Blocton, Ala., the son of Martin and Fannie (Parober) Stritzel. Huck was a World War II veteran in the Pacific theater. He was a radar operations technician. He enjoyed working his garden, mowing the lawn, and working around the yard, that is, while he was able. He always enjoyed sports and was an avid baseball fan. While he enjoyed baseball in general, he especially rooted for the Cardinals and Cubs. Huck enjoyed telling stories about the old times in Johnston City and Chicago, particularly the baseball and soccer that he played as a youth in Johnston City and Southern Illinois. He recounted many tales about the individuals that he played with or those who managed the teams he played on. Huck never married, but was much loved by all of his nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Matt Stritzel was a special cousin of Al's. Al appreciated the help he received from Matt when he retired and moved back to Johnston City. Huck also had a special bond with his caretaker Lois Moore. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Stritzel of Walla Walla, Wash.; one sister, Elizabeth Kopach of Sun City, Ariz.; three nephews and three nieces and their spouses, Rudolph and Florence Shum of Schaumburg, John and Peggy Shum Jr. of Johnston City, Linda and Ed Dasso of Long Grove, Pat Lukasczewski of Naperville, Donna and Jim Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz., and Martin "Marty" and Pamela Kopach of Lake Forest; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. His parents; four brothers, Frank Stritzel, Andrew Stritzel, John Stritzel, Rudolph Stritzel; two sisters, Mary Shum and Ann Benson; and grand-nephew, David Shum, preceded him in death.

William Robert Angel Jr.
DONGOLA -- William Robert Angel Jr., 84, formerly of Kankakee, died at 7:05 Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, in Union County Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Mendota, the son of William and Helen Lafferty Angel. He married Madeline Hammond on Nov. 29, 1952, and she died on Sept. 8, 1998. Mr. Angel worked as an electrician for the gas company. Survivors include his sister, Gertrude Vezain of Ottawa; three nieces, Pat Scerine of Ottawa, Kathy Weber of Spring Hills and Carol Johnson of Dongola; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and one sister. Services will be today, Aug. 27, 2003. Arrangements were made by Schreffler Funeral Home in Bradley. Interment will be in Kankakee Memorial Park in Kankakee. Local arrangements were made by Crain Funeral Home of Dongola.

James M. Cross
MARION -- James M. Cross, 60, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Edward "Shorty" Alsip officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy, with military rites by Marion VFW Post 1301. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Cross was born on Jan. 19, 1943, in Marion to William E. Cross II and IvaLee (Taylor) Cross. Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Statler of Marion; a daughter and her husband, Tonya Cross-Frick and David Frick of Herrin; a son, James Sean Cross of Arcola; three grandchildren, Dustin and Chelsea David and Dalton Frick; his mother, IvaLee Cross-Cooper of Marion; and two sisters, Barbara Kendall and Janice Russell, both of Marion. He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, William E. Cross III; and an infant sister. Mr. Cross retired from Old Ben Coal Company after 30 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and past president of Local District 12. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963-1967 during the Vietnam Era. He was of Baptist Faith. He loved to fish and play golf.

Cordelia M. Goodfellow
ALTO PASS -- Cordelia M. Goodfellow, 81, of Irving, Texas, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, in the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro. She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Ames, Kan., the daughter of Herbert L. and Laura Lavoie Carter. She married Vernon E. Goodfellow Dec. 14, 1946, in Topeka, Kan., and he preceded her in death in April 1974. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Irving and a bus driver in the Irving-Independent school system. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Daniel Rendleman of Alto Pass and Laurene and Brian McLaughlin of Saginaw, Texas; six grandchildren, Audra Guereca, Jeremy Mullins, Jennifer Rendleman, Julie Woolard, Meagan McLaughlin and Thomas McLaughlin; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Carter of Emponia, Kan.; and other relatives and friends. Services for Ms. Cordelia M. Goodfellow will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Irving. Chism and Smith Funeral Home in Irving is in charge of arrangements. Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass is in charge of local arrangements.
