WEST FRANKFORT -- James H. Taylor, 54, died Oct. 15, 2003, at home. Private services will be held. Parker-Reedy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elbert Woods
DU QUOIN -- Elbert John Woods, 84, died at 3:53 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 in the Marshall Browning Hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Pyatt-Harrawood and Epplin Funeral Home. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Gold Plate Program.

Johnetta Jones
CARBONDALE -- On the evening of Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at 8:30 p. m., at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. God picked the most beautiful flower to adorn his garden. Her work on this earth was completed. Now Johnetta is resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and she will truly be missed. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Carbondale, with the Rev. Dr. Norman S. Greer, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial follows in Oakland Cemetery. Johnetta was born March 11, 1947, in Carbondale, to John L. and Jennie Young Jones. She was educated in the Carbondale school systems and graduated from Carbondale high school. She earnedundergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Illinois University and Kent State University. She was employed at Eastern Illinois University from 1977 as a professor of History, Director of Minority Affairs and Director of the Gateway Program until the time of her passing. She received numerous awards and certificates for her many achievements and rightfully earned them. Johnetta never had children of her own. She always considered her students as her offspring. While hearts are saddened by Johnetta's death, our lives are richer for the time we spent with her. Cherishing her precious memories are her mother Jennie Young Jones of Carbondale/ Norwalk, Ohio; two brothers, Harry Jones of Carbondale and William D. Jones and wife Sherry of Norwalk, Ohio; a maternal aunt, Bessie B. Young of Champaign; a sister-in-law, Debra Jones of Carbondale; five nieces and nephews, John and Raven Jones of Carbondale, Roger, Shelby and Alexis Jones of Norwalk, Ohio and a host of other relatives and friends. Her father, John E. Jones; her brother, Jerald Jones and her maternal and paternal grandparents preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to the Johnetta L. Jones memorial scholarship fund in care of Eastern Illinois University, 600 Lincoln Av., Charleston, IL, 61920-3099. Jackson Funeral Home of Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.

Judy Kay Keyes
COLP -- Judy Kay Keyes, 54, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell- Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Henry Crippen officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Judy was born May 4, 1949, in Sandridge, to Delbert and Laura Pauline Hood Ellis. She a Baptist. She loved to cook, enjoyed fishing, liked to lake long walks and to find a good bargain at a yard sale. She took pride as a single parent and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandson, Jaxon, who was the true light of her life. Survivors include her mother, Laura Pauline Hood Williams; a daughter and son-in-law, Jaimee Kristin Ellis and Brian Canada of Colp; grandson, Jaxon Canada of Colp; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Jo Marie Ellis of Mount Olive, Larry and Tia Ellis of Geneva, and Brian and Tina Ellis of Granite City; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Carpenter of Granite City, Deborah and Skip Wood of Dupo, Paula and Gary Hayes of Marble Hill, Mo., and Nancy and Les Atkins of Post, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, and a sister-in-law, Nellie Ellis.

Philip Anderson
ELIZABETHTOWN -- Philip Anderson, 75, died at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Claude Allen Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Big Ridge Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy Association.

Patricia Moore
HERRIN -- Patricia Ann Moore, 72, died at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2003, in The Guardian Angel Home in Johnston City. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Johnson- Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Kevin Acuff will provide the eulogy. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home. William Roger Reeves
MURPHYSBORO -- William Roger Reeves, 74, passed away at 1:48 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in his residence. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in Pettett Funeral Home. Mr. Reeves' body will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. He was born on Jan. 16, 1929, in Granite City, to Floyd and Clara Belle (Jones) Reeves. He was a mechanic with the forestry service. He was a member of the Illinois Sheriff's Association. He was served in both the U. S. Army and the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Wilma Jeanne Harrison on Oct. 19, 1950, in Murphysboro, and she survives. Other survivors include six children and their spouses, William Dale and Sandy Reeves of Murphysboro, James Roger Reeves of Murphysboro, Kathryn and John Massey of Curran, Robert Alan Reeves of Anna, Michael Edward Reeves of Stroud, Okla., and Steven Lynn and Wendy Reeves of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Reeves of St. Louis, and Floyd Reeves and Jack Reeves, both of Murphysboro; and five sisters, Maybelline Pomeroy of Fla., Peggy Brunty of Indiana, Laura Jane Childers of Arkansas, and Gloria Calhoun and Rebekah McIntosh, both of Murphysboro. He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Scott Reeves, one brother, one sister and his parents.

John "Jay" Phillip Clough
MURPHYSBORO -- John "Jay" Phillip Clough, 73, of Muphysboro, passed away at 1:23 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in his residence. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Larry Cook officiating. Burial will be in Mount Joy Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today in the church. Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Church of Christ. Jay was born on April 4, 1930, in Murphysboro, to Theron and Hazel Schmellmeyer Clough. He married Clara Belle Massey on Jan. 26, 1951, in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2003. He had worked at the former Brown Shoe Company and then went to work and retired from the Penn Aluminum Plant, both in Murphysboro. He was a member of St. Peter's Church of Christ in Murphysboro. He loved to fish and hunt. He was an avid gardener and supplied his family members with fresh vegetables. He is survived by two sons, John Allen Clough and James "Jim" Clough; and one son-in-law, Gary Rains, all of Murphysboro; one brother and sister-in-law, William "Bill" and Rose Clough of Murphysboro; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris McCann of St. Louis, Mo., Charlotte Winget of DeSoto, Camilla Rose and Ruth and Jerry Sarensen, all of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Louise Rains on Aug. 10, 1997, one sister, Sophia Duncan, and his parents.

James H. Corners
CENTRALIA -- James H. Corners, of Orlando, formerly of Centralia, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Orlando. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the Rev. Brad Henson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Washington School of Medicine and will be accepted by Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home.

Eula Matilda Johnson
MOUNT VERNON -- Eula Matilda Johnson, 85, died at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in Crossroads Community Hospital. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19 in South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

Marie Sweitzer
COBDEN -- Marie Sweitzer, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in her daughter's home in Lick Creek. She was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Cairo, the daughter of William and Blanche (Dillard) White. She married Karl M. Sweitzer Sr. Nov. 15, 1947, in Cobden. He preceded her in death Oct. 12,2001. Mrs. Sweitzer was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cobden. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Karl Jr. and Anita Sweitzer of Cobden, Karen Sweitzer of Washington, Ill., Karol and Gary Gill of San Antonio, Texas, Kurt and Lisa Sweitzer of Cobden and Karee Sweitzer of Lick Creek; seven grandchildren, Karl Sweitzer III, Kristofer Sweitzer, Kaitlin Sweitzer, Alex Sweitzer, Nathan Sweitzer, Mary Sweitzer and Austin Gill; one brother, Leonard White of Fort Worth, Texas; and two sisters, Elsie Hight of Columbus, Ga., and Rosalyn Croy of Belleville. She was preceded in death by her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father Federico Higuera officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with a rosary service at 8 p. m.

Mavis Martin
MOUNT VERNON -- Mavis Lee Martin, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospice.

Charles Wheeler
MOUNDS -- Charles Wheeler, 84, of Charleston, Mo., formerly of Mounds, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo. Arrangements are incomplete at Massie Funeral Home in Cairo.
