CARBONDALE -- David Mote, 44, of Springfield, formerly of Carbondale, died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church in Springfield. Burial will be later. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bisch Funeral Home in Sprinfield. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or First United Methodist Church, 501 E. Capitol, Springfield, IL 62701. Mote was a graduate of SIU School of Law.

Malcolm Kern
MOUNT VERNON -- Malcolm L. "Mac" Kern, 91, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery, the Revs. Bill Causer and David Eadie officiating. military flag presentation will be by American Legion Post 141. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Hughey Funeral Home.

Melvin Fritsche
STEELEVILLE -- Melvin E. Fritsche, 74, died at 7:48 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in Sparta Community Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Janneke officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in West Point. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran School.

Marvin Heinrichsmeyer
CENTRALIA -- Marvin Heinrichsmeyer, 81, died at 3:25 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Perry Schefelker officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or to the donor's choice. Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Nehrkorn
PINCKNEYVILLE -- Robert D. "Bob" Nehrkorn, 76, died at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Pinckneyville Community Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Roe's Dale Baptist Church, with the Revs. Darrel Molen and Charles Smith officiating. Burial will be in Campbell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

HERRIN -- Margaret Bennett, 78, died at 1:35 p. m., Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Herrin Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

PINCKNEYVILLE -- Imogene Fisher died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis. Arrangements are incomplete at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville.

CENTRALIA -- Frieda Beckmeyer, 98, of Lewisburg, formerly of Centralia, died early Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Riverwoods Nursing Home in Lewisburg. Arrangements are incomplete at Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home in Centralia.

Eva Roesch
MARION -- Eva Dean Roesch, 76, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Floyd Dorris officiating. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral in Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Chamberlain
CARTERVILLE -- Dorothy Ann Chamberlain, 88, died at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in Oak Grove Rehab Center in Carbondale. Arrangements are incomplete at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home.

Maria Cachapero
REEVESVILLE -- Maria Theresa Cachapero, 38, died at 9:49 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Benton Community Church in Reevesville. Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna is in charge of arrangements.

Johnetta Jones
CARBONDALE -- Johnetta L. Jones, 56, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Arrangements are incomplete at Jackson Funeral Home of Carbondale.

Joshua Miles Barrett
MARION -- Joshua Miles Barrett, 18, died 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at his residence. Joshua was born Dec. 18, 1984, in St. Louis, Mo., to Miles and Kim (Knopf) Barrett. Joshua was a 2003 graduate of Marion High School, where he was a journalism student and editor for the Marion High School paper. He loved to write poetry and had completed his first book. His writings will live on forever. Joshua's strength, courage, dignity and sense of humor through his brief battle with a brain tumor gave strength to us all. He attended the Marion Church of Christ. Survivors include his parents, Miles and Kim Barrett of Marion; two brothers, Matthew Barrett of Iowa and Eric Barrett of Marion; a sister and brother-in-law, Melanie and Mark Nolker of St. Louis; maternal grandmother, Ellayne Knopf of Marion; maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Herbert and Mary Knopf of Little Rock, Ark.; three aunts, Kathy and Rick Bliss of Plano, Texas, Karen and Dr. David Ijams of Cordova, Tenn., and Barbara and George Southern of Carthage, Mo.; two uncles, Allen Barrett of Oklahoma and David Barrett of Lee Summitt, Mo. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ila Howard. Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, with Gerald Cowan of Marion Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Everett W. Ferrill
VIENNA -- Everett W. Ferrill, 89, of St. Simons Island, Ga., formerly of Vienna, Ill., and Muncie, Ind., died Oct. 11, 2003, on St. Simons Island. Dr. Ferrill was born in Jackson County and graduated from University High School in Carbondale. He received his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois Teachers College, his master's from the University of Colorado and his doctorate from the University of Illinois. Prior to World War II, he taught at Oaks, a one-room school in Williamson County and was principal and teacher at Makanda High School. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, the former Mary Ruth Chapman of Alto Pass, who died in 1995, and by his special friend, Phyllis Flanders, who died in 2000. He served four years in the U. S. Navy during World War II. As a Naval officer he attended Dartmouth, Princeton and Ohio State universities and served as an instructor in the Naval Officer Training School at Notre Dame University. He served on a Naval destroyer in the Atlantic as a gunnery officer and was first division officer on the USS Mindora that was scheduled to take part in the invasion of Japan. In 1946, he began his tenure at Ball State University in Muncie, where he served as professor of history and chairman of the history department. He retired in 1980. While at Ball State, he was active on university committees as well as civic and community organizations. He was elected to the Muncie City Council and served as its chairman. He was a member of College Avenue Methodist Church, where he served on many committees and taught Sunday school. Upon retirement, he moved to rural Vienna, where he was a member of the Marion First Presbyterian Church, Johnson County Retired Teachers, Goreville Senior Citizens and served on the board of the Southern Illinois TIP Rural Health. In 1995, he moved to St. Simons Island, Ga., where he served as a board member for The Colony Condo Owners Association and Residents United for Planning and Action. He attended St. Simons United Methodist Church. Dr. Ferrill is survived by two daughters, Linda Ferrill and Jane Johnson, both of St. Simons Island; one grandson, Todd Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Lavonia Hiller of Dixon; several nieces and nephews ;and his special friend, Lucille Smith of St. Simons Island. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525; Amity House, P. O. Box 278, Brunswick, GA 31521, or St. Simons Land Trust, 1624 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, GA 31522. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Georgia A. Aden
DONGOLA -- Georgia A. Aden, 86, of Dongola died at 6:11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Feb. 22, 1917, the daughter of Rowley and Della Minton. She married Wardell Aden in October 1935, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1975. Mrs. Aden was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Dongola and Beta Sigma Phi, and was a homemaker. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Jacque Aden of East Cape; a granddaughter and her husband, Shelly and Luke McMahan of Wolf Lake; two grandsons and their wives, Shannon and Amy Ruehling of Pocahontas, Mo., and Tod and Kelli Swope of Frisco, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Bethany and Autumn McMahan of Wolf Lake; and four great-grandsons, Dustin Aden of Pocahontas, Mo., and Conner, Brandon and Michael Swope, all of Frisco, Texas. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with the Rev. Donald Poole officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Dongola. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Dongola.

Agnes P. McKee
ALTO PASS -- Agnes P. McKee, 94, of Alto Pass and formerly of Scott City, Mo., died at 10:08 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at her home in Alto Pass. She was born April 9, 1909, in Bloomfield, Mo., the daughter of John Williams and Ida Margaret (Henson) Gibson. She married Lester L. McKee on Nov. 28, 1928, in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1981. Fifteen brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Ida Mae Penrod of Alto Pass; one brother, the Rev. Johnny B. Gibson of Anna; several nieces and nephews; great-and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Scott City and attended the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Alto Pass. She was an excellent seamstress. Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, in the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass, with the Rev. Bill Vandergraph officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass and from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City. Interment will follow in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.

Joe Blagg
MOUNT VERNON -- Joe Leroy Blagg, 74, died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hughey Funeral Home, with the Revs. Gene Auxier and Les Sinks officiating. Burial will be in East Salem Cemetery in Jefferson County. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's-Good Samaritan Hospice.
