SPARTA -- Ralph Kirby, 72, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Sparta Community Hospital. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wilson Funeral Home in Sparta. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association.

Jeffrey Allen Eddy
CARRIER MILLS -- Jeffrey Allen Eddy, 18, of Carrier Mills passed away at 12:35 a.m. July 29, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident near his home. Jeffrey was born on September 26, 1983 to John and Sheila Eddy in Jerseyville. He attended Crab Orchard High School and loved to play his guitar. Jeffrey is survived by his parents, John Eddy of Jerseyville; mother and stepfather, Sheila and Raymond Jackson of Carrier Mills; brother Jason Eddy of Herrin; maternal grandparents, Charles and Genevieve Clark of Carrier Mills; aunts, Becky Mielke of Hardon, Ellen Adkens of Marion and Tina Becker of O'Fallon, Mo.; uncles, Kenny Clark of West Frankfort, Charles Clark and Willie Clark, both of Paulton and David Clark of Galatia; and a nephew, Wyatt Eddy of Herrin. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 1 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Gaylon Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Jeffrey Allen Eddy and will be accepted at the funeral home or by mail to P. O. Box 39, Marion, IL 62959.

Arlie Seawright
CAIRO -- Arlie C. Seawright, 78, of Escanaba, Mich., formerly of Cairo, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Mich. The bod was cremated. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, with the Rev. Kelly Cox officiating. Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.

Francis Guilford
PINCKNEYVILLE -- Francis "Squeaky" Guilford, 76, of Salisbury, Mo., died July 29, 2002, in University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo. He was the grandfather of Lisa Wild (Larry) of Pinckneyville. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, with burial in Asbury Cemetery in rural Keytesville, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Cemetery, in care of Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, P. O. Box 318, Pinckneyville 62274.

Margaret Pratt
TAMMS -- Margaret Pratt, 84, died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William Bullard
MOUNT VERNON -- William W. Bullard, 79, died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Darin Elder officiating. military flag presentation will be by American Legion Post 141. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home.

Robert Mitchell
MOUNT VERNON -- Robert L. "Mitch" Mitchell, 53, died at 3:46 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at home. Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in New Bethel Missionary Church in Centralia, with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating, and at 11 a.m. Saturday in Elkton Cemetery in Elkton, Ky. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home, and from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the church.

Frank David Basso
SESSER -- Memorial services for Frank David Basso, lifetime Sesser resident, will be held Saturday, August 3, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Sesser. Visitation will be at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Friday at 6 p. m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Basso died Tuesday, July 30, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, from complications related to a recently contracted case of Burkett's Lymphoma. He was 82. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elda (Garbiero) Basso. Mr. and Mrs. Frank D. Basso have been active in the Sesser community for many years. Their crowning accomplishment was founding the Sesser Public Library, which recently celebrated 20 years of accreditation in the State of Illinois Library System. Born on March 26, 1920, to Isadore and Virginia Basso, the youngest of four children. His parents had immigrated to Sesser from Italy in the early 1900's. An accomplished musician, Mr. Basso pursued his passion for music throughout his entire life. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music from the University of Michigan. He was a decorated veteran of World War II serving his country as a member of the Construction Engineers. He was married to Elda Garbiero on a weekend pass before going off to join his comrades at War. After completing his service to his country, he returned to Southern Illinois to teach music at Carterville High School and at Goode-Barren Township High School in Sesser. As his family grew, he left the teaching profession, but continued to serve the education of youth, ultimately retiring from Britannica Educational Systems. Devoted to his church, he served as the organist at St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years. He was an accomplished composer, a member of ASCAP, and has music in current distribution as performed by various artists. He was an active supporter of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Basso is survived by two sons, David J. Basso, who with his wife Cathy (Quillman) lives in Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Kimberly Scaglione, who with husband Carl lives in Baltimore Md., David J. Basso Jr. who, with wife Caro, lives in Dallas, Texas, Danny Allen Basso who, with wife Kim, lives in Augusta, Ga, Andrea Denheyer, who, with husband Ron, lives in Dallas, Texas, and Frankie Allen Basso, who with wife Heather, lives in Dallas, Texas; and seven great grandchildren, Patricia Basso, Anna Basso, Maggie Basso, Samantha Basso, Madeline Basso, Jonathan Denheyer, and Emma Denheyer. The family is requesting that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Sesser Public Library, Frank D. Basso Memorial Fund, PO Box 538, Sesser, IL 62884.

Daisy Shirley
ELDORADO -- Daisy Mae Shirley, 66, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at home. The body will be cremated. There will be no public visitation. Colonial Terrace Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby N. Ashby
MOUNT VERNON -- The Rev. Bobby N. Ashby, 76, died at 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Laird Cemetery in Belle Rive, with the Rev. Ralph Wilton officiating. military flag presentation will be by American Legion Post 141. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home.

Scott Serati
WEST FRANKFORT -- Scott Serati, 32, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Paul Tirey officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Gary Tanner
MARION -- Gary W. Tanner, 60, of Marion passed away at 5:29 p. m., Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Ed Martin officiating. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery south of Creal Springs. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Whiteash Community Church or Missions, in care of Acuna, Mexico. Envelopes are available at the funeral home, or may be sent in care of the Blue Funeral Home, P. O. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Tanner was born on June 8, 1942, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Harold Wendelland Lenora (Whitehead) Tanner. He married Carolyn Bennett in August 1961, and she survives. Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ron Kissel of Carbondale, Tracy and Tony Maze of Del Rio, Texas, and Jennifer Ward of Marion; son, Gary W. Tanner II of Marion; grandchildren, Kelly, Lacy and Justin Maze, Mike, Ashley and Brandi Ward, Dylan Daughenbaugh, Jordan Paul Tanner and Emily and Cameron Kissel; great-grandchild, Alec Hunter Pierce; sister, Doris, and her husband, Ed Martin, of Marion; brother, John, and his wife, Cindy Tanner, of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Tanner was owner and operator of Tanners Pool Service in Marion. He was an ordained Freewill Baptist Minister and a member of Whiteash Community Church. He was a member of the Williamson County Shrine Club and Marion Masonic Lodge 89 AF&AM.

Billy Joe Reed
PERCY -- Billy Joe Reed, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, in Union County Hospital in Anna. Services will be at 8 p.m. today in Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, with burial at 1 p.m. Monday in Blackfoot Cemetery in Spurgeon, Ind. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Mr. Reed was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Willisville to Walter and Bertha (Coleman) Reed. Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Fritsche of Percy and Marilea Vickroy of Steeleville. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Doris Esther Nobel
MURPHYSBORO -- Doris Esther Nobel, 91, of Shelbyville, formerly of Beecher City and Murphysboro, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in the Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville. Mrs. Nobel was born Feb. 13, 1912, in Tuscola, the daughter of Alonzo and Letha Lindsey Fuller. Mrs. Nobel received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She retired from teaching in the Murphysboro school district. She was affiliated with the Mount Pleasant Jerusalam Christian Church at Pomona. She was devoted to her family, and instilled in them a love of education and music. Surviving are her daughter, Donna Wills of Beecher City; grandchildren, Sally Zimmerman and husband, Steve, of Vandalia, Joe Willis of Beecher City and Mary Wills of Shelbyville; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Carter and Jake Wills, and David and Rachel Zimmerman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley, daughter, Ruth Ann, in infancy, parents, son-in-law, Billy Dean Wills, three brothers and five sisters. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 16, 2003, in the Mount Pleasant Jerusalem Christian Church at Pomona. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Jerusalem Christian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Jerusalem Christian Cemetery or to the Beecher City Library. Lockhart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville is in charge of the arrangements.
