Memorial services for Dorothy Carlson (nee Engelhardt), 77, a resident of Des Plaines for 50 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Born June 26, 1921, in Chicago, she died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Holy Family Hospital, Des Plaines. Interment will be private in Acacia Park Cemetery.
A homemaker, she was the beloved wife for 53 years of the late Henry Carlson; loving mother of Bruce L. (Donna) Carlson of Mount Morris, Paul R. (Dorothy) Carlson of Lake in the Hills, Diana L. (William) Dietze of Des Plaines and Eileen C. (Michael) Guzaldo of Winamack, Ind.; dear sister of the late Florence Jania; devoted grandmother of 12; and great-grandmother of 13.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or to the American Cancer Society.

Thomas G. Dietrich of Des Plaines
Funeral services for Thomas G. Dietrich will be private.
Born Nov. 23, 1929, in Chicago, he died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Holy Family Hospital.
Mr. Dietrich was a former engineer for Zenith Radio, and was a lifetime member of Park Ridge VFW Post #3579.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen (nee Coates); sons, Thomas J. (Tina) Dietrich of Park Ridge and Michael Dietrich of Houston, Texas; and grandchildren, Danny and Brad.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores E. (nee Lenart).
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Robert H. Eschbach of Northbrook
Memorial services for Robert H. Eschbach, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2245 Walters Ave., Northbrook, IL 60062.
Born Dec. 20, 1914, in Lancaster, Pa., he died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at his home in Northbrook. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
He was the husband of Miriam; father of Dan (Sue) Eschbach of Grayslake, Tom (Nancy) Eschbach of Mount Prospect, Jim Eschbach of Northbrook, John Eschbach of Northbrook and Jane (Scott) Whiteman of Oxford, Ohio; and grandfather of Catherine, Robert, Julie, Kaitlin, Allison, Ben, Betsy and Peter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Hanekamp Funeral Home, 385 Waukegan Road (1/2 mile north of Dundee Road), Northbrook.

Steven G. Fawell of West Chicago and Glen Ellyn
Services for Steven G. Fawell, 45, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 393 S. Main St., Glen Ellyn. Family and friends are to meet at church.
Born June 13, 1953, in St. Charles, he died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at his home in Glen Ellyn. Interment will be in Glen Oak Cemetery, West Chicago.
Mr. Fawell had been a longtime resident of West Chicago and Glen Ellyn.
He was the loving father of James, Katherine and Jonathan Fawell; devoted son of Senator Beverly Fawell and the Honorable Bruce R. Fawell, retired Judge of DuPage County; and fond brother of Jeffrey B. (Blanche) Fawell, Judith A. (Steve) Keithley, and Scott R. (Joan) Fawell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road (one block east of Naperville Road), Wheaton.

Charles H. Gelardi of Streamwood for 13 years
Prayers for Charles H. Gelardi, formerly of Schaumburg, will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, at Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/Schaumburg, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Marcelline Church.
Born March 3, 1929, in Oak Park, he died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Gelardi was a retired operations manager for Commonwealth Edison with 42 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Gelardi (nee Havell); daughters, Christine (Jim) Mannella of Sleepy Hollow, Patti (Earl) Ingram of LaGrange, Texas, Nancy (Scott) Condos of San Ramon, Calif. and Karen (Gary) Evans of Schaumburg; grandchildren, Jeanne, Jason, Derek, Megan and Grant; and great-grandchild, Jonathon.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Alan L. Gilstrap of Elmhurst
Funeral services for Alan L. Gilstrap, 75, formerly of Wheaton and Glen Ellyn, will be held at noon Tuesday, at Leonard Memorial Home, Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. TheRev. Robert Lesher will officiate.
Born May 25, 1923, in Bevier, Mo., he died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at his home.
Burial will be in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
Mr. Gilstrap graduated from Glenbard High School in 1941. An Army veteran of World War II, he was formerly a longtime member of Medinah Country Club.
Survivors include his children, Bonnie (William) Gabriel of Warrenville, Ronald Gilstrap of Houston, Texas, Terry (the late Jack) Benham of CarolStream and Deborah (Richard) Brackmann of Lombard; brother, Harry Richard (Ann) Gilstrap of Albuquerque, N. M.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Eva Gilstrap; brothers, Elmer Jack and John `Babe'; and sisters, Ruth, Mildred and Marian.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Sandra G. `Sandy' Gondek of Schaumburg
Services for Sandra G. `Sandy' Gondek (nee Allen), 45, will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg.
Born April 30, 1953, in Norfolk, Va., she died peacefully at home Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, after a long battle with colon cancer. Interment will be private.
Mrs. Gondek had been the secretary of the volunteers at Hoffman Estates Medical Center for three years. She was also a member of the Children's Advocacy Center, the Northwest Rape Council, the Roots of Meadow and the Sunrisers.
She was the beloved wife of Tim Gondek; loving mother of Dr. Bonnie (Dr. Steve) Fines; cherished daughter of Victor and Marjorie Allen; dear daughter-in-law of Edward and Elizabeth Gondek; dearest sister of Cindy (Ray) Gabriellie, Dave (Claries) Allen and John (Vicki) Allen; fond sister-in-law of Skip (Pattie) Gondek and Cynthia (Richard) Dean; caring aunt of many nieces and nephews; and beloved friend of Sarah Schurr.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services at 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

William F. Griffith of Arlington Heights
Services for William F. Griffith, 72, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Hwy., Arlington Heights.
Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Chicago, he died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. Interment will be in Arlington Heights Wheeling Township Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
Bill owned the Griffith Insurance Agency in Arlington Heights for more than 25 years. During that time, he was actively involved in the community. He was commander of the Merle Guild Post 208 of the American Legion, actively involved in First United Methodist Church, serving as a delegate to their conference, United Way and Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of school board #214 during the planning of John Hersey High School, which he felt was one of the most challenging and gratifying experiences of his life.
He loved politics on both sides of the aisle. He ran for offices in Cook County, the Metropolitan Sanitary District and the Cook County Board and was active in the Wheeling Township Democratic Organization. He was interested in issues for the aging, coordinator of Senior Action Program for Lt. Governor Dave O'Neal's office. He worked with Operation ABLE, finding work for older adults.
He was director of marketing for the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce from 1993 to 1997, where he recruited more than 300 new members.
Bill was a true baseball fan proud to be able to hit an 85-mile-an-hour fast pitch. He never retired from life. He had opinions on many subjects and loved to share them - often in letters to the editor and his mailings to friends and family. He enjoyed all kinds of music, bought a piano and took lessons for the past two years.
He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and loved and nurtured them.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth L. (nee Lord); children, John W. (Diane) of Westchester, Robert J. (Jackie) of Homewood, Elizabeth Anne (Thomas) Griffith of Arlington Heights and Heidi (Stephen) Bradfield of Chandler, Ariz.; brothers, L. Allan (Shirlee) of Fort Pierce, Fla. and J. Harry (Violet) Griffith of Wheeling; and grandchildren, Erin, Brendan, Melissa, Kyle, Cory, Garett, Maia, Kayla, Samantha and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas E. Griffith.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Clara C. Hannen of Wheaton
Services for Clara C. Hannen, 90, will be held at 8 p.m. today, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
Born Feb. 16, 1908, in New York City, N. Y., she died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Interment will be held Tuesday, in Wheaton Cemetery.
Mrs. Hannen is survived by her son, Charles (Karen) Hannen of Wheaton; stepson, Raymond (Sara) Hannen of Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Gayle, David and Robert Hannen, Donna (John) Allen, Beth (Kevin) Ferguson and Pam (Todd) Johnson; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Edgar Hannen in 1985; and sister, Helen Bauer.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of services today, at the funeral home.

Caroline M. Hughes of Woodstock
Services for Caroline M. Hughes (nee Slick), 84, formerly of Phoenix, Ariz., will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Windridge Memorial Park Chapel, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Road, Cary. The Rev. Roger Schneider, pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry, will officiate.
Born July 22, 1914, in St. Paul, Minn., she died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Woodstock Memorial Hospital. Interment will follow the services.
Mrs. Hughes was a retired assembly worker for Jensen Manufacturing in Fox Lake.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Lucy) Hughes of Goleta, Calif.; daughters, Abadine (Robert) Domke of Island Lake and Gail (Jeff) Arnold of Woodstock; sisters, Josephine Fredricksen and Dolores White, both of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and threegreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Abdo David and Jerald R. Hughes.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Tuesday, at the cemetery chapel.
