Evelyn Robertson

CHRISTOPHER -- Evelyn D. Robertson, 79, passed away at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion after a short illness. Evelyn was born March 18, 1925, in Chebanse, to Joseph and Charlotte (Rosenberg) Provancal. She married Al Robertson in 1969, and he survives. Other survivors include one stepdaughter, Joan Pugh of West Frankfort; one stepson, Bill and wife Lisa Robertson of Lake of Egypt; one sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Homer Roy of Carbondale; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Mary Agnes Provancal of Crestwood; one sister-in-law, Darlene Provencal of Midlothian; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charlotte and Joseph Provancal; her brother, Thomas Joseph Provancal; and her sister, Mardell Haneff. Evelyn recently retired from working for Air Stamping, Inc., after many years. She had also worked for Hunky-Lynch Chrysler in Benton and was the former owner of Benton Auto Supply. Evelyn enjoyed playing bingo and bowling with all of her friends. It was Evelyn's wish to be cremated. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, in the Masonic and IOOF Cemetery in Benton, with Father Larry Lemay officiating. Arrangements are begin handled by Gilbert Funeral Home of Christopher. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, to the American Heart Association or to hospice.

Annalou Sowers

MARION -- Annalou Sowers, 78, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Hubert Bradley officiating. There will be no public visitation. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.

Brien Dencausse

WEST FRANKFORT -- Brien Dencausse, 39, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Arrangements are incomplete at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Irene McClinton

MOUNT VERNON -- Irene McClinton, 101, died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 22, 2004, in Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Bill Howard officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

Gladys Wright

MURPHYSBORO -- Gladys Lucille Wright, 84, died at 9:05 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Oak Grove Rehabilitation Care Center in Carbondale. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel, with Pastor Charles Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Albert George Roth

HARRISBURG -- Albert George Roth, 67, died at 10:05 a.m. Sunday Sept. 19, 2004, at Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Judith Beyler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with Elks rites at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Roth was the owner and operator to the Car Care Unlimited from 1983 to 1999. He was an active member in the Harrisburg Elks Lodge; Knights of the Round Table Golfers and Men's Golf League at Shawnee Hills County Club. He was a member of the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church. He was born on July 20, 1937, in St. Louis, the son of George and Dorothy (Litzsinger) Roth. He married Carol Wissman Fischbach on Dec. 23, 1974, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Donald Roth of Las Vegas and Daniel and wife Mary Roth of St. Louis; two daughters, Denise Mathys of Ballwin Mo. and Ann and Shannon Wilson of Harrisburg; a stepdaughter, Angela and husband Mark Stilley of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, R. J. and Jen his fiancee, Krekeler of Ballwin, Mo.; Michelle Krekeler, Tracy Krekeler both of Ballwin, Mo., D. J. Roth of St. Louis and Bailey Wilson of Harrisburg; brother, Steve and wife Stella Roth of St. Louis; sister, Nancy and John Clawson of Wildwood, Mo.; parents-in-law, Carl and Janet Wissman of St. Marys, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Karen and husband David Emerson, Theresa and husband Jon Stahler both of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Sharon and husband Bob Post of St. Marys, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in memory of Albert Roth, to the Harrisburg Elks Crippled Children's Fund or the building fund at the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Barbara Anderton

MARISSA -- Barbara Anderton, 60, died Sept. 18, 2004, at Sparta Community Hospital after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born in St. Louis on Oct. 2, 1943, the first of nine children of Jewell and Helen (Carr) Crawford. On Aug. 30, 1963, she married James F. Anderton in her parents' home in rural Mount Vernon. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, James; a son, James R. Anderton of Bellville; a daughter, Janet Wietlispach of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four sisters, Jewel Marlow and Tina Fuller of Mount Vernon, Linda Smith of Farmington, Mo., and Rae Frazier of Texico; and four brothers, John Crawford of Evans, Ga., Cranston Crawford and Jim Crawford of Mount Vernon and Tim Crawford of Lakeland, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents. Barbara was a very loving and giving wife, mother, sister and friend to many. She started working as a nurse's aide at Sparta Community Hospital in 1978 and graduated from Licensed Practical Nurse school in 1982. She continued working as a LPN at Sparta Community Hospital until 1998, when she took a position at Family Health Care in Sparta. Over the years, she has cared for and touched the lives of many patients. Barbara had many friends in Marissa and surrounding communities through her work at the hospital. She loved going to yard sales and flea markets and collected Cherished Teddies. She brightened the lives of many with her smile, her sense of humor, her gifts and her friendship. Despite her illness, she continued being cheerful and optimistic, always thinking of others' needs before her own. She is deeply loved and admired, and she will be dearly missed. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Faith Baptist Church in Marissa. Burial will be in Marissa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Faith Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc. or to the family.

Louis D. Hanks

Marion -- Louis D. Hanks, 91, of Marion went home to be with the Lord at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Benton Healthcare Center. Louis was born on April 21, 1913, in Marion, to Oscar and Emma (Reese) Hanks. He married Ruth McDannel on Aug. 15, 1936, in Benton. After 50 years of marriage she preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 1986. Mr. Hanks was retired from Elgin State Hospital where he was employed as an attendant. He formerly worked as a miner at area coal mines. He was a member of New Dennison Baptist Church in Marion. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Elmer Smith of West City; son, Wayne Hanks of Knoxville, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Charles D. and Sharon Hanks of Elgin; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sophia Faulkner of Mascoutah, Alberta Hill of Marion and Loudene Dial of Marion. He is preceded by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Revs. Gordon Lantrip and Bill Kopas officiating. Burial will follow at Hanks Cemetery in rural Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hanks Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Pearl M. (Piquard) Mitchell-Casey

MURPHYSBORO -- Pearl M. (Piquard) Mitchell-Casey 97, of Caseyville, born July 13, 1907 in Murphysboro, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Caseyville Nursing Home. She was a hairdresser and retired owner- operator of Mutual of Omaha Insurance. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Belleville and also very active with various church organizations and Eastern Star. She was survived by stepdaughters Elaine (Carl) Hacker, Fairview Heights, Norma (Walter) Kershaw, Kinmundi; brother, Eugene Piquard of Peoria; a sister, Betty Carnahan; and a dear friend, Frank Rekosh; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Emil and Sula (Nausley) Piquard; brothers, Earl, Henry, Emil, Ray, Ted and George Piquard; and sister, Mayme Piquard. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 22, 2004, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Erwin Buhs officiating. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 21, 2004, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.

JOHNSTON CITY -- Lilie Rains, 92, of Tuscola, formerly of Johnston City, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Tuscola Healthcare Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Merman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City.

Marguerite Maxton

HURST -- Marguerite Maxton, 86, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Blairsville Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home in Hurst is in charge of arrangements.

Johnie Prim

MOUNDS -- Johnie Harold Prim, 88, of Dorseley, Mo., formerly of Mounds, died 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at Regional Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Arrangements are incomplete at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge.

Sara Jones

MARION -- Sara Jones, 82, of Marion passed away at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, in Atherton Cemetery, Danville. There will be no visitation. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the New Hope Church building fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Jones was born on Feb. 20, 1922, in Decatur, to Charles W. and Pearl (Holland) Fleming. She married Donald E. Kerst, he preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1950, she later married Ralph E. Jones, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1959. Survivors son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sherry Kerst of Horatio, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Robinson of Danville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ron Dameron of Marion; grandchildren, Don and Teresa Kerst, Kathy and Paul Stewart, Bill and Sheila Kerst, John and Becky Robinson, Kim Bridgman, Monica and Pat McGinley, Sam and Sue Stilley, Debra Dameron, Annie and Aaron Ahrens, and Jim Bob Kerst; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Bill 'B. C. ' Ross

MAKANDA -- Bill 'B. C. ' Ross, 80, of Makanda, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 at home. He was born in Ripley, Tenn. on April 15, 1924, a son of Edd and Anna (Cox) Ross. On July 31, 1948 he married Elizabeth Smith. Mr. Ross was the mayor of Makanda from 1970-1979 and 1996 to the present. He was retired from the ICRR He was a member of the Oak Grove Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ross, three daughters, Betsy (Mike) Dietz of Anna, Vicki (Butch) Terry of Pinckneyville, and Dixie Lee (Ryan) Anderson of Carbondale, one son, Jay (Elaine) Ross of Makanda, eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bert Ross of Rock Falls, and Paul Ross of Leesburg, Fla. Services will be on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating, and eulogy by Mike Bost. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Anna and until the time of services on Tuesday.

Grace Adele Rubach

CAMPBELL HILL -- Grace Adele Rubach, 89, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Three Springs Lodge in Chester. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill, with the Rev. Howard N. Ellis officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery in Campbell Hill. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, then from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Cemetery Fund or St. Luke's Building Fund. Mrs. Rubach was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Campbell Hill. She was born on Monday, April 19, 1915, to Louis C. Gerlach and Emma I. (Husemann) Gerlach, in Campbell Hill. She married Louis H. Rubach on April 19, 1933, in Campbell Hill. He died on Oct. 24, 1992. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Lester Behnken of Campbell Hill; three grandchildren, Mark Behnken of Campbell Hill, Diane Welry of Hearne, Texas, and Jeff Behnken of Campbell Hill; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Welry, Dustin Behnken, Jason Behnken and Ryan Behnken. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Gary Dale and four sisters.

Kathryn Laverne Robinson

DU QUOIN -- Kathryn Laverne Robinson, 73, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004 on at home. Kathryn was born on May 12, 1931 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (McGuire) Martin. She married Avis L. Robinson on March 5, 1974, in Murphysboro and he preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1974. Survivors include her son, Paul Taylor and wife Barbara of Tamaroa; a sister, Alma Hubbard and husband James of Carbondale; three grandchildren, Chatanya George, Eric Taylor, and Cody Taylor and two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Dalton George. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Willard 'Art' Taylor, Jr. and Donald Taylor, one grandson, Paul 'PJ' Taylor, Jr. and one brother, Henry Martin. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at the Pyatt-Harrawood & Epplin Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Ted Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 8 a.m. until time of services Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association.

Hazel Edna Farley

WEST FRANKFORT -- Hazel Edna Farley, 85, of West Frankfort, passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the Parkview Care Center in West Frankfort. She was born May 29, 1919, in Williamson County, to Walter and Nellie Sheperd. She is survived by a son, William Harold 'Bud' Bowyer of West Frankfort, and two granddaughters, Lisa Rich of Marion, and Karen Shideler of Glen Rock, Wyo. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Lloyd (Buck) Bowyer; her second husband, Laverne (Buck) Farley; by a special friend, Walter Finney; a granddaughter, Kendra Jo Layne (Bowyer); a brother, Harold (Bud) Sheperd; and by three uncles, Ike, Logan and Blaine Sheperd. Services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Tim Gossett officiating. Burial will be in the Herrin City Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Tuesday to the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Thomas Woods

CAMBRIA -- Thomas Elmer Woods, 86, of Cambria, formerly of Carbondale and Bush, died at 3:51 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Murphysboro. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with the Rev. Roddie Chitwood officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitaton will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lettie Gregory

DU QUOIN -- Lettie Greory, 70, died at 9:06 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004. Arrangements are incomplete at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Edward Correll

WEST FRANKFORT -- Edward Correll, 75, died at 7:17 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Arrangements are incomplete at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Glen Sutfin

METROPOLIS -- Glen Sutfin, 90 died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Aikin-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, with the Rev. Wes Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 100 E. 5th Street, Metropolis, IL 62960.

Charles Jones Jr.

HERRIN -- Charles Jones Jr., 64, of Herrin, went to be with our loving Lord at 7:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, from his home. Charles' choice of final disposition was to be cremated. His family will honor his wishes and, as Charles requested, there will be a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. today in Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin. Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Charles was born in Carterville to Charles and Cecil (Knight) Jones on Aug. 11, 1940, in Carterville. He married Delores J. Fisher of Marion, and she survives. They were married 41 years. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Jones; and one sister, Helen Crain. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Melody and Ken Knusta of Herrin and Mendy and Damon Collins of Marion; five grandchildren, Chase, Trent and Avery Knusta, all of Herrin, and Dylan and Kelsey Collins of Marion; two brothers, Andrew Jones of West Frankfort and James Jones of O'Fallon; one niece, Phyllis Emery of Carterville; and many other nieces and nephews. Charles worked for the Maytag in Herrin for 42 years until he retired. He was in the paint department for more than 35 years. Charles will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be provided by Van Natta Funeral Home.
