CHRISTOPHER -- Frank E. VanHoorebeke, 76, of Christopher, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Franklin Hospital Emergency Room in Benton. Frank was born on Jan. 13, 1928, in Indiana, to Alfred and Freida (Dame) VanHoorebeke. He married Pearl Shaw and she survives. He was a farmer and was a member of the American Legion in Christopher and Apostolic Church in Zeigler. Survivors include children, Betty Lou Hopkins of Doniphan, Mo., Clarence E. VanHoorebeke of Du Quoin, Shirley Worrle of Altus, Okla., Charles VanHoorebeke of Benton, Sharon Plasters of West Point, Miss., Mary Jo Murry of Waltonville, Elmer VanHoorebeke of Caldwell, Texas, Kenny VanHoorebeke of Austin, Texas, David VanHoorebeke of Texas, Loren VanHoorebeke of Mount Vernon, Randy VanHoorebeke of Herrin, Earelen Zeboski of Freeman Spur and Sherry Keller of Du Quoin, Gary Keller of Benton, Randy Keller of North Carolina, Cyndi Keller of Benton, George Keller of Ashley, Georgia Chrostoski of Benton, Steven Keller of Ashley and Shannon Grimes of Marion; sister, Betty Vordtriede of Christopher; brothers, Donald VanHoorebeke and Clarence VanHoorebeke, both of Coello; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Alice Patterson and four brothers, Loren, Kenneth, Jessie and Darrell. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Gilbert Funeral Home, with Brother Snell officiating. Burial will be in Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Glenn E. Deason

COLLINSVILLE -- Glenn E. Deason, 91, died at 8:01 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 3, 2005, in First United Methodist Church in Collinsville, with the Rev. Dan Harry officiating. At Mr. Deason's request, he was cremated. Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Glenn taught wood-working and carpentry at Collinsville High School and Collinsville Vocational Center for many years. He graduated from Southern Illinois Normal School, now know as Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he played football. He also enjoyed hunting, wood-working, fishing, golf and bowling. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Collinsville. He was born on Tuesday, April 15, 1913, to Francis Ellery Deason and Elva (Winchester) Deason. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Nancy Deason of Collinville; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Don Miner of Princeton; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first and second wife, Pauline (Waller) Deason and Vivian (Loy) Deason; five brothers and four sisters.

Paul Ricker III

CUTLER -- Paul E. 'Monkey' Ricker III, 35, died at 7:25 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Chester Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDaniel Funeral Home in Percy. Burial will be in Cutler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30 at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial may be given to the family.

METROPOLIS -- Reba Legereit, 87, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Metropolis Rehab Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.

Barbara Thompson

HARRISBURG -- Barbara Ann Thompson, 78, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Paul Widicus officiating. There will be no public visitation. Those attending the service should gather at the cemetery.

Jack Koker

EQUALITY -- Jack R. Koker, 81, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Equality, with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lawrence Brust

MOUND CITY -- Lawrence F. Brust, 85, of Paducah, formerly of Mound City, died at 5:38 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mound City National Cemetery, with Monsignor Bill McGhee officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City.

HERRIN -- Pualine Bean, 76, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

Eulala Inez Russell

MARION -- Eulala Inez Russell, 95, of Marion, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Fountains Care Center of Marion. She was born in Williamson County, near Marion, on Dec. 26, 1909, the daughter of Roy and Sally (Jackson) Poteete. Eulala was united in marriage to Barney Russell on June 21, 1928, in Marion. Together they shared more than 59 years of marriage until his death on Sept. 23, 1987. Her working career had been as a clerk for Feurer Brothers Grocery Store of Marion and as an accountant for White Top Cab Company of Marion. Though she did work some outside the home, she dedicated her life to seeing to the needs of her husband and raising their children and grandchildren. She also found enjoyment in crocheting and playing Hearts and Pinochle with family and friends. She was a sports enthusiast, especially baseball, and was an avid Cubs fan. She was also known for her ability to prepare wonderful meals and her home was the gathering place for the holiday and family functions. She always found time to be involved with the activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her church membership was with Marion Second Baptist Church for many years. In her passing she leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald D. and Fran Russell of Paducah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Leroy Sager of Marion and Lee Ann and Herb Ashley of Leawood, Kan.; four grandchildren, Tom McDowell, Lisa Weaver, Randy Russell and his wife, Michelle, and Traci Rodulfo and her husband, Greg; four step-grandchildren, Drew Ashley, Crystal Hoopes and her husband, David, Karen Ulrich and Dennis Sager; nine great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Lesley and Emiley Weaver, Kelsey, Ryan and Ellie Russell and Jessica, Danielle and Rachel Rodulfo; five step-great-grandchildren, James and Mary Lynn Hoopes, Dave Ulrich and his wife, Deon, and Leslie and Matthew Sager; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Deserie and Destiny Ulrich; sister-in-law, Rhea Corso of Herrin; several nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Ronald Lee 'Fuzz' McDowell, two sisters, Faye Summers and Lefa Walker, half sister, Verbal Wohlwend, and three brothers, Ray, Kay and Leo Poteete. The time of the visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. today at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home, with Dr. Bob Wagner presiding. She will be buried next to her husband, Barney, in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. For those who prefer memorial contributions may be made to Marion Second Baptist Church and Hands of Hope Clinic and may be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P. O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Joseph Comer Cheek

VIENNA -- Joseph Comer Cheek, 87, of Joliet, formerly of Vienna, died at 8:07 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Joliet Area Community Hospice. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Bailey Funeral Home, with Pastor Joe Aldridge officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery, with military rites by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 of Vienna. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. Bill L. Kirkpatrick Sr.

MOUNT VERNON -- Bill L. Kirkpatrick Sr., 72, of Mount Vernon, died at 9:49 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in St. Mary's/Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Billy was born on Jan. 4, 1932, in Franklin County, to Ivan and Geneva (Bennett) Kirkpatrick. He married Frances Karch on June 1, 1956, in Mount Vernon, and she survives. He worked at Gaunt's TV for 20 years and then operated his own television repair service, Bill's Television Service, until retirement. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Summersville Pentecostal Church and also served on the church board. He loved his grandchildren very much and enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandson and thought his granddaughters were the most beautiful girls anywhere. Survivors include his wife, Frances Kirkpatrick of Mount Vernon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Jr. and Linda Kirkpatrick and Tony and Pam Kirkpatrick, all of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Tony Kirkpatrick Jr. and fiancee Tabatha Ellis, Jordan Lee Kirkpatrick, Bethany Kirkpatrick and Moriah Kirkpatrick, all of Mount Vernon; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Flo Kirkpatrick of Johnston City; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joann and Gene Clarke of De Soto and Iva Jean White of Sesser; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hughey Funeral Home, with Pastors Junior Karch, Jeff Bond, Jerry Pascarilla and Dwain Huston officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Muriel Browning Jeter

WEST FRANKFORT -- Muriel Browning Jeter, 91, of West Frankfort, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Herrin Hospital. She was born on Sept. 16, 1913, in Marion, to John H. and Elnora (Cox) Browning. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Frankfort where she served 10 years as treasurer, eight years as organist and had taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. She is survived by five grandchildren and their spouses, Mickey Glenn of West Frankfort, Cody and Bill Ice of West Frankfort, Jane and Terry Hall of Texico, Mike Glenn of Thompsonville and Jennifer and Virgil Ellison of Boonsville, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Dax Davidson and wife, Deanna of West Frankfort, Kellie Woodrome and husband, Lincoln of Texico, Amanda and Josh Ice of West Frankfort, April Cox and husband, James of Benton and Casey Toler of Boonsville; and great-great-grandchildren, Alanis Davidson, Jacob and Josie Woodrome, Alexis, Lars and Kennedy Allen; and a sister, Mary Hartman of Woodlawn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eulis Pendley, who died in 1932, and by her second husband, K. James Jeter, in 1992. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Sharon Glenn Williams, three sisters, Florine Odum, Beulah Kirkpatrick and Verdie Clendenin and three brothers, Harl, Coral and Oral Browning. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Revs. Alan Summers and Lloyd Whittaker officiating. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery. Robert R. 'Bobby' Mason

ROYALTON -- Robert R. 'Bobby' Mason, 52, of Royalton, died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at home. Bobby was born on Aug. 23, 1952, in Du Quoin, to Robert Truman and Joan 'Dottie' (Keenan) Mason. Bob was a brick mason and a member of the Bricklayer's and Allied Craftsman Union No. 8 in Murphysboro. He was a student and instructor of Tae Kwon Do martial arts with a black belt degree. He was a working musician and avid bass player for over 25 years. He is survived by a daughter, Abby Mason and her fianc, Raul Perdomo and a soon to be born grandson, Austintino, all of Tampa, Fla.; his wife, Sue Mason and a son, Jason Baker, all of West Frankfort; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Valerie Mason of Akin, Jacqie and Steve Parkinson of Christopher, Georgia and Paul de la Garza of Tampa, Stacey and Bryson Baker of Collinsville and Tanna and Gene Morgan of Sesser; his stepmother, Karen Etherton of Murphysboro; a mother and father-in-law, Shirley and George Norman of Marion; a mother-in-law, June McNeil of Carterville; seven nephews, four nieces, two great-nephews, two great-nieces, six aunts and many loving cousins. He was beloved by family and many friends. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Church of the Nazarene, 100 N. Fairdale St., Royalton, with Brother Steve Ashmore officiating. Burial will be in Miners Cemetery east of Royalton. Visiting hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday in Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Mary E. Clutts

CARBONDALE -- Mary E. Clutts, 79, of Carbondale, formerly of Murphysboro, died at 12:39 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was born on June 7, 1925, in Pomona, the daughter of L. F. 'Bill' and Evia J. Humphrey Inman. She was married to George F. Clutts on Sept. 8, 1946, in Moorhead, Minn. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1991. Mary was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She was active in the Home Extension and the Friends of Sallie Logan Library in Murphysboro. Mary is survived by a son, Eric Clutts of Carbondale; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melinda Inman of Minneapolis, Minn., and Carolyn and Dennis Harmon of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Frank Inman of Eagle River, Wis.; two aunts, Avis Arnold of Alto Pass and Mary Ina Hall of Carbondale; two sisters-in-law, Chris Clutts of Anna and Dr. Sandra Bilinsky of Springfield; two grandchildren, Melissa House and Sarah Staley; two great-grandchildren, Carolyn and Kathryn House; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, a sister, Barbara Stearns and a brother, Bud Inman. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass, with the Rev. Davy Miller officiating. Interment will be in Alto Pass Cemetery. Clara Worsham

WEST FRANKFORT -- Clara Worsham, 89, of West Frankfort, passed away Dec. 31, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born on Aug. 12, 1915, in Spillertown, to Mike and Mary (Makovic) Straka. She was married to Fred Worsham and he preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Becky Wollard of Joliet; grandchildren, Brad Wollard of West Frankfort, Paula Hartman and Lisa Malone both of Joliet; great-grandchildren, Jason Wollard and wife, Kristie, Christal Minton and husband, Shane, Melisa Pavlich, Briana Pavlich and Brooke Malone; one great-great-grandchild, Kamden Wollard; two brothers, Charles Straka and Tommy Straka, both of West Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, and brothers, Rudy and Joe Straka. Mrs. Worsham was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of West Frankfort and was the former owner and operator of Washum Maytag Store in West Frankfort. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Father Larry Lemay officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort. Alberta (Johnnie) Roberts

RALEIGH -- Alberta (Johnnie) Roberts, 79, of Raleigh, died at 8:08 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind. Alberta was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Eldorado, to James and Ella (Shipley) Phelps. She married J. W. Roberts on Nov. 8, 1942, in Jackson, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2004. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Chapel Church. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Donna Roberts, Mike and Deb Roberts and Gary and Erma Roberts, all of Raleigh; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie and Jeff Rush of Galatia and Melody and Steve Horseman of Raleigh; one brother, Charles Phelps of Eldorado; two sisters, Beulah Hall of Fairfield and Florence Cash of Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, Kara and James Hayes, Keith and Debbie Roberts, Kelly McGee, Leslie Rush, Mandy and Joe Abbe, Justin and April Roberts, Doug and Lee Roberts, James and Jeremiah Horseman; 10 great-grandchildren, Josie Hayes, Keyah, Justus, Kiana, Joshua Roberts, Abeni and Emma McGee, Braxton and Courtney Keasler and Justin Abbe. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Joshua Horseman, one brother, Jason Phelps, and three sisters, Fern Wiggins, Louise Thompson and Norma Taylor. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Little Chapel Church, with Jeff Rush officiating. Burial will be in Rhine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday in the church. Sloan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Little Chapel youth.

Denny Lee Nobles

COBDEN -- Denny Lee Nobles, 39, of Bastrop, Texas, formerly of Cobden, died at 6:34 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, from injuries received in a motorcyle accident in Bastrop. Denny was born on Feb. 28, 1965, in Joliet, the son of Denny A. and Betty Blessing Nobles. He was the plant manager for Cook Portable Warehouses in Bastrop. He was active in coaching little league baseball and football teams and was a member of the men's auxiliary of the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of the VFW in Anna. He is survived by two sons who resided with him in Bastrop, Beau and Hunter Nobles; his mother, Betty George of Cobden; his father, Denny A. Nobles of California; one sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Steve Reynolds of Anna; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Stacy George of Jonesboro; his maternal grandmother, Mildred Blessing of Cobden; two nieces, Adriana Ramsey and Kaelyn George, both Jonesboro; five nephews, Brandon and Traci Reynolds of Du Quoin, Nick and Jerald Reynolds of Anna and Kyle Isom of Jonesboro; aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Jane E. Moake

JOHNSTON CITY -- Jane E. Moake, 86, of Johnston City, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Dr. Roger K. Lyons officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Washington Avenue Baptist Church, the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be accepted at the funeral home. Jane was born on April 19, 1918, in West Frankfort, the daughter of Harry and Bessie (Odle) Engram. She married William A. Moake on June 21, 1941, in Berwyn. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1998. Jane was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City, Williamson County Home Bureau Friendship Extension Unit and a charter member of the Happy Kampers. She graduated from Johnston City high school in 1936. During her early years of marriage, she worked at a dime store in Sioux Falls, S. D., while Bill was serving in the Army-Air Force. Their daughter, Janice, was born in Sioux Falls, and after returning to Johnston City, their son, William Steven Moake was born in Herrin. She is survived by a daughter, Janice Nix and husband, Henry of Carbondale; a son, Steven Moake and wife, Melanie of Cave-in-Rock; a grandson, Brad Walker; two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Walker and Hunter Brown; two brothers, Tom Engram and wife, Betty of Carbondale and Gilbert Engram and wife, Betty of Johnston City; two sisters, Betty Lee of Carbondale and Barbara Maroscher and husband, Gus of Marion; a sister-in-law, Janet Engram of Johnston City; a brother-in-law, Charles Moake and wife, Georgia of Freeburg; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Eugene Engram, and a father-in-law, Charles Moake and his wife, Judith Ellen (Grant) Moake.

Thelma Marlow

MOUNT VERNON -- Thelma Carlton Marlow, 88, of Mount Vernon, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Nature Trail Nursing Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Newell Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Eadie and Bill Causer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Angels on Assignment or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

MARION -- Lynda L. Hawkins, 66, of Marion, died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Arrangements are incomplete at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
