Evelyn May Levey

GOREVILLE -- Evelyn May Levey, 91, passed away at 6:55 a. m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in the home of her daughter, Roberta and Paul Forester at Lake of Egypt, Eagle Point Bay, in Goreville. Services will be at 11 a. m. today at Mitchell- Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Pastor Arthur Donley officiating. Visitation was Friday at the funeral home. It was Evelyn's wish to be cremated. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Evelyn was born May 5, 1913, in Chicago, to Frederick and Elizabeth Krach. She married William H. 'Harry' Levey on Sept. 4, 1928, in West Chicago, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1986. Evelyn and Harry lived in West Chicago. When Evelyn retired from working as the head of the cafeteria at the junior high school in West Chicago in 1967, they moved to Florida. Evelyn enjoyed her family and many friends, traveling throughout her active life until illness brought her to live with her daughter, Roberta, in Goreville. She went with them to Arizona for the winters until she decided to stay there. Illness again moved her in with her daughter, Dolly, in Sun City, Ariz., and then back to Goreville. Survivors include daughter, Dolly McKamey and husband, Don of Sun City; twins, Robert Levey and wife, Barbara of Russellville, Ark., and Roberta Forester and husband, Paul of Goreville; six grandchildren, Steve McKamey of Peoria, Ariz., David McKamey of Phoenix, Vicky Davis of Redfield, Kan., Robin Turnipseed and husband, Brian of Grandbury, Texas, Robert Levey and wife, Sheri of Springtown, Texas, and Paul Forester II and wife, Mary Sue of Sandwich; 21 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, loving granddaughter, Paula Renee' Forester Wilde, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Harold Hansler and Hazel and Ed Gross, two nieces, Lila Deiz and Lois Williams, dear friend, Lynn Tripp, and in-laws, Alfred Levey, Ken and Noreen Levey, Frances Levey and Pete Armbrust. 'Evelyn was a kind and loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed greatly and will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts with precious memories. We thank God for her wonderful life and for having us share that with her and for taking her so peacefully into her everlasting life with Jesus Christ our Lord.'

Nellie Hughes

BENTON -- Nellie Leota Hughes, 85, of Benton, died at 4:55 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at home. Services will be at 10:30 a. m. Saturday at the Phillips Cemetery in Ewing, with the Rev. Dale Carson officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Arrangements are by the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home. Harry E. Williams

COBDEN -- Harry E. Williams, 82, of Cobden, died at 12:15 p. m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 10 a. m. today in Cobden Cemetery, with the Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Burial will be in the cemtery. Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Williams

MURPHYSBORO -- Michael A. Williams, a beloved husband and father, will be remembered by the light and the love of Christ that shown through him. His extraordinari ly strong faith in God served as the foundation for his great strength and character. Mike, 33, who will always be remembered for the positive impact that he left on the lives of others through his loving and caring personality, passed away Monday, June 14, 2004. A native of Murphysboro and a graduate of Illinois State University, he was a self-proclaimed sports enthusiast and basketball fanatic who always wore an awarding smile. As a Youth Ministry Leader for The Church of the Harvest in Evansville, Ind., Mike's faith was evident in the way that he lived, the words that he spoke, and the profound impression he left on everyone he had contact with. Mike is survived by his wife Joyce; daughter, Mya; his mother, Corrine; and brothers, Kenny Williams, Mark Williams, Stan Rogers and Patrick Byrd, and a host of extended family and friends. Though he will be missed, we can rest assured that Mike is in heaven with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and is watching over us all. His light continues to shine. Services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the Calvary Temple, 5050 N. First Avenue in Evansville. Friends may call from 11 a. m. until 1 p. m. Saturday at the church. Gravesite services will be held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro, at 1 p. m. Monday, June 21, 2004, and friends may call at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, and from 11 a. m. to 12:45 p. m. at the funeral home.

William Edward 'Bill' Hall

BENTON -- William Edward 'Bill' Hall, 48, of Benton, formerly of Logan, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in Crossroads Hospital in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 1 p. m. today in Poulson Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Dwight Jones officiating. Burial will be in Creal Springs Cemetery. Visitation was Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made in his memory to the State Bank of Whittington for his children and will be accepted at the bank or funeral home. Bill was born Dec. 9, 1955, in Benton, to John and Margaret (Butler) Hall. He was married to Melissa (Trammel) Hall for 13 years, and she survives of Benton. He was a clerk for Citgo Southerd Oil in West Frankfort. He adored his wife and children and was a lover of horses and racing. He was a member of Bethel Community Church in West Frankfort. Survivors include his mother of Steel City; sons, Keith Robinson of West Frankfort and Lucas and John Hall of Benton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Chuck and Pam Hall of West Frankfort and John and Anita Ruth Hall of Benton; brother-in-law, Jack Groves and wife, Traci of Herrin; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Janice and Mike Fletcher of Thompsonville, Joyce and Scott Forsythe of Whittington, Dixie and Greg Counts of St. Louis, Dora and Jon Duncan of Benton and Karen Hall of Benton; mother-in-law, Delores Groves of West Frankfort; grandfather-in-law, William Furlow of Marion; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, grandmother, Anna Goda Butler, brother, Karl Lee Hall, sisters, Lora Sue and Kimberly Dawn Hall, father-in-law, Floyd Groves, and one niece, Ashley Duncan.

Jane Tally Phelps

MAKANDA -- Jane Tally Phelps, 58, of Makanda, passed away at 3:46 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at home. Funeral services will be at 11 a. m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main in Carbondale, with the Rev. John Annable officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p. m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main, Carbondale; CCHS Education Foundation, 330 South Giant City Road, Carbondale; or SIU Foundation, Colyer Hall, 1235 Douglas Drive, Mail Code 6805, Carbondale, IL for a golf scholarship in memory of Jane and will be accepted by the funeral home. Jane was born Sept. 30, 1945, to Earl Tally and Emma (Hogendobler) Tally. She married John S. Phelps on July 21, 1968, in Carbondale. Survivors include her husband Dr. John S. Phelps of Makanda; one son, John Spencer 'Jay' Phelps II of Atlanta; one daughter, Mary Jane Phelps of Atlanta; her parents, Earl and Emma Tally of Carbondale; two brothers, James Earl Tally of Atlanta, and William Joseph Tally of Carbondale; one sister, Emma Jean Durr of Carbondale, Jane was preceded in death by one sister, Jerrie Ruth Tally Gerdes. Mrs. Phelps was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carbondale where she was a Stephen Minister. She was also a member of P. E. O. ; Beta Sigma Phi; Alpha Gamma Delta; and the Carbondale Community High School Foundation where she served as secretary. Jane graduated from SIUC with a bachelor's degree. She taught kindergarten for six years before joining her husband in his orthodontic practice. Jane worked side by side with her husband, Dr. John Phelps as an orthodontic assistant. A job she had for 30 years. Janie was a committed community volunteer with a love for teaching others. She was an avid sports fan enthusiastically cheering on the SIU Salukis, St. Louis Cardinals and Rams. Janie had an interest in all the arts, especially quilting. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Throughout her illness her faith never wavered.

MARION -- M. Ruth Miller Kobler, 82, died at 5 a. m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at home. Services will be at 2 p. m. Monday at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion, with Dr. Joey Brent presiding. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P. O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Clarence Ward

ENERGY -- Clarence Ward, 70, died at 4 a. m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at home. Services will be at 10 a. m. Monday at First Apostolic Church in Marion. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m. Sunday at the church. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is in charge of arrangements.

Robert 'Bob' Hepburn

UNION COUNTY -- Robert J. 'Bob' Hepburn, 85, Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Union County, passed away Monday, June 14, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood. He was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Chicago, the son of Edward and Augusta (Bermeister) Hepburn. He married Virginia C. Penninger on Oct. 7, 1939, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2003. He was a retired motel manager. He served in the U. S. Marines during World War II and was a life member of the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 Anna VFW. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sharon Hepburn of Hollywood, Fla., and Mike and Diana Hepburn of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Rena Stanley, Robert, Allen and Andrea Hepburn, Carla Greiving and Michael Hepburn Jr. ; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Services will be at 1 p. m. Sunday in the chapel of Hileman Funeral Home, with Dr. Richard Hertenstein officiating. Interment will be in Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p. m. today at the funeral home. military rites will be conducted at the grave by Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 Anna VFW. Memorials may be made to Anna VFW or to Mount Moriah Lutheran Church.

Bruce Kenneth Derossett

CREAL SPRINGS -- Bruce Kenneth Derossett, 54, of Creal Springs, formerly of Cobden and Wolf Lake, died at 9:30 a. m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at home. He was born Dec. 30, 1949, in Anna, the son of Everett Elmer and Violet Leona Allen Derossett. He is survived by his mother, Violet Derossett of Wolf Lake; his ex-wife, Monta Derossett of Creal Springs; one son, Kenneth Wayne Derossett of Grand Tower; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Connie Derossett of Wolf Lake; five stepchildren, Tina Lambing of Leesburg, Fla., Letha Schluterbush of Portland, Ore., Delaine Basler of Broadway, N. Y., Karl Basler of New Burnside and Melinda Hartsock of Cobden; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Elmer Derossett; and two brothers, Everett Allen Derossett and Wayne Derossett. He was a veteran of the Vietname War and was a member of Anna VFW Post 3455. He was a mechanic and had worked as a deckhand on the river. Services were Tuesday at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. The Rev. John Cripps officiated. Interment was in Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower. military honors were performed by Anna VFW Post 3455. Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Woody

CARMI -- Ruth Woody, 88, of Roseville, Mich., died at 6:25 a. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Wabash Christian Retirement in Carmi. Services will be at 1 p. m. Sunday in Watson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ben Schuk officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. today in the funeral home.

MARION -- Ralph Jenkins, 77, died at 4 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

Frances Pauline Benton

HERRIN -- Francis Pauline Benton, 87, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at the O'Fallon Health Care Center. Services will be at 9:30 a. m. today, June 19, 2004, at Second Baptist Church in Herrin, with the Rev. Bill Fox officiating. Viewing will be from 2 to 3 p. m. at Lakeview Baptist Church in Fairview Heights. Burial will follow at 3 p. m. in Lakeview Cemetery in Swansea. Frances was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Herrin, the daughter of Ray and Kate (McCalpin) Alexander. Both parents preceded her in death. She married Robert Benton. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Eva Dekum and two brothers, James and Dwight. Survivors are her three sons, Mr. Allen and Karen Benton of Little Rock, Ark., Mr. William and Judy Benton of Cahokia; two sisters, Mrs. Vera Woolard of Herrin and Mrs. Mary Lee McCree of Herrin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin and a former member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Swansea, where she worked with the seniors and the youth of the church.

Bob Hayes

JONESBORO -- Bob G. Hayes, 75, of Jonesboro passed away Friday, June 18, 2004, at home. He was born April 28, 1929, in Tulsa, Okla., son of Ova Owen and Lurena (Webber) Hayes. He married Doris M. Newton on Aug. 8, 1970, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2004. He was employed as a barber for many years. He also worked for Tammsco Silica Company. He was a past commander of District 25 American Legion, a past commander of 900 American Legion Post in McClure, a member of Forty et Eight Grand Voiture d'Illinois. He is survived by four daughters, Brenda Blevins and Linda Robert, both of Columbia, Mo., Jacqueline and husband Wayne Hubbs of Jonesboro and Donna and husband Randy Lingle of Metropolis; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one twin brother, Billy Joe and one son, Billy Joe. Services will be at 11 a. m. Monday, June 21, at 11 a. m., in the chapel of Hileman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Freeman officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Valley Mission Cemetery. military rites will be conducted at the grave by the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 Anna VFW. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Monday at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Marvin 'Bud' Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. CARRIER MILLS -- Marie Wells, 84, of Carrier Mills, died at 5 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at home. Services will be at 1 p. m. today in Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with the Rev. Jack Hood officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. today in the funeral home. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. She was born June 4, 1920, in Carrier Mills, to the late Marshall and Eiza (McCuan) Davis. She married Charles Wells on Oct. 29, 1938, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God of Harrisburg. She is survived by a daughter, Rita Adams of Carrier Mills; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Patty Wells of Harrisburg; a brother, Raymond Davis of Carrier Mills; five grandchildren, David Lee Van Hoy of Stonefort, Clint Wells of Harrisburg, Valerie Horton of Galatia, Billy Adams and Natalie Bethel, both of Carrier Mills; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Van Hoy, a brother, Denver Davis, two sisters, Geneva Chaney and Mary Davis and five great-grandchildren.

SESSER -- Carlos E. Bullock, 57, of Dixon, Ky., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at home. Services will be at 2 p. m. Monday in Vann Avenue Baptist Church, 2806 Vann Ave., Evansville, Ind., with the Rev. Robert A. Nall officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p. m. Monday in the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Boone Funeral Home in Evansville is in charge of arrangements.

MOUNT VERNON -- Parker H. Sargent, 91, of Mount Vernon, died at 9:56 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Crossroads Hospital in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 11 a. m. Monday in Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the cemetery or East Side Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Norman Schulz

MURPHYSBORO -- Dr. Norman E. Schulz, 83, formerly of Murphysboro, died Friday, April 23, 2004, in Port St. Lucie Hospital in Florida. A memorial Mass was celebrated on Thursday, April 29 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie, with full military honors provided by the U. S. Army. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Schulz was a veterinarian and worked for the USDA Animal Health Division in the Southern Illinois area.

DAHLGREN -- Eunice I. Miller, 81, died at 11:19 a. m. Friday, June 18, 2004, in St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Services will be at 1 p. m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, with the Rev. Alan Monroe and the Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial will be in Richardson Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association and may be left at the funeral home.

Priscilla Robinson

VIENNA -- Priscilla J. Robinson, 70, died at 5:45 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with Dr. James W. Cecil officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, near Ozark. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 805 W.
