Mary Lou Aubell

WEST FRANKFORT -- Mary Lou Aubell, 70, of St. Louis, died June 29, 2004 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Williamson County, to Frank and Josephine Aubell. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Robert Aubell of Crescent City, Calif.; eight nieces and nephews of California; one aunt, Rose Migieticz of St. Louis; and several cousins and friends. After graduating from high school in West Frankfort, she attended nurses training and worked and lived in St. Louis area. Her education was completed with a masters and PHD in nursing. A memorial service will be announced at a later date by the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Donations in Mary Lou's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Michael Nix

TAMMS -- Michael E. Nix, 39, died at 10:46 p. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, upon arrival at St. Francis Hospital. Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Verlee Eaker officiating. Interment will be in the Spencer Heights Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. today at the funeral home.

Ernie Faulkner

VIENNA -- Ernie Faulkner, 69, of Vienna, died at 5:27 p. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, near his home. Services will be at 10 a. m. Friday in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with the Rev. David Faulkner officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p. m. today in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate, Marion High School Heart Walk (Ali Gardiner), Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968. Ernie was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of Charles W. and Addie (Smithson) Faulkner. He was united in marriage to Betty 'B.J.' Hickenbottom on Oct. 25, 1957, in Long Creek Methodist Church in Decatur, and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Hayden Gardiner of Marion; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathy Faulkner of Carterville and Keith Faulkner and Beth Widowski of Vienna; five grandchildren, Cory, Mia, Ali Rae, Cameron and Jeffrey; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Faulkner and Cecil and Christine Faulkner, all of Vienna; a sister-in-law, Margie Faulkner of Marion; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ernie was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Faulkner. Ernie was a U. S. Army veteran who served from 1957 to 1959. Ernie was retired in November 1999 after serving as the golf pro for 25 years at the Lake of Egypt Golf Course. He had previously been employed by Staley Manufacturing Co. and later served as a representative for Moorman Manufacturing (a farm supply and services company) in Quincy for 13 years. Ernie was also a cattle farmer and a member of the Registered Angus Cattle Association. Ernie had attended the Casey Springs Church near Vienna. He was an avid golfer, sportsman and outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Ernie was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Edmond 'Ed' Hayes

CARBONDALE -- Edmond L. 'Ed' Hayes, 72, died Sunday, June 11, 2004, in San Francisco, following a lengthy illness to the complications of diabetes. and heart disease. Born in Carbondale, he moved to San Francisco with his mother and sisters in 1945. He graduated from Commerce High School, attended San Francisco City College, and was drafted into the U. S. Army. After serving his term in the Army, he attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he was recruited by the New York Giants football team. In 1957, he married Hope Morgan and returned with his wife to San Francisco. In the same year, he began work for the San Francisco Municipal Railway where he drove buses until his retirement. After his retirement he worked for two security firms, one belonging to his longtime friend, George Whitfield in Oakland and the other belonging to Harold McCoy, another dear friend in San Francisco. He retired from the McCoy Security Agency in 1993. Ed had a great sense of humor and loved parties, jazz, amusement parks and large family gatherings. His ability to recall events, people, places and things was phenomenal, both long and short term. He never forgot a face; he never forgot a name. He was a walking history book and telephone directory combined. If ever he said that he didn't remember, it usually meant he was not going to discuss it. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Jackie Weston, Allyn Kaye and Beverly Hayes; one stepson, Bryan C. Glenn (Hayes); 12 grandchildren, James Jr., Danielle, Erica, Jerion, Diamond, Verena, Mace , Jr. and Erica, Ghaffar, Medina, Edmond and Anwar; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marlene Hardiman and Faye Callier; and a host of other relatives and friends.

June Deaton Brown

CARBONDALE -- June Deaton Brown, 83, of Carbondale, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at 10:35 a. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at home. Services will be at 1 p. m. today in Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Revs. Sam Foskey and Myron Dillow officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Friends may call from 11:30 a. m. to 1 p. m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to University Baptist Church, 700 Oakland St., Carbondale, IL 62901; Baptist Children Home of Carmi, 949 County Road 1300 N., Carmi, IL 62821; or VNA TIP Hospice, Silver Team, 508 S. Park Ave., Herrin, IL 62948 and will be accepted by the funeral home. June was born Oct. 20, 1920, at the home of her parents, Orbe and Flossie (Bearden) Deaton in Marion. She married Bill Brown on June 8, 1941. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents and her only sister, Dorothy Bradley. Survivors include one son, Dr. G. Michael Brown of Carbondale; three grandchildren, Mariah, Jared and Ethan Brown all of Carbondale; one brother-in-law, Marion Bradley of Carbondale; and one aunt, Chloe Dungey of Marion. June attended grade school and high school in Marion. She was elected queen her senior year. She attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was a graduate of Mrs. Hickey's in St. Louis. Later she was co-owner and manager of Southern Sports Center in West Frankfort. After moving to Carbondale in 1960 she retired to make a home for her husband and son. She was baptized in and was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion. After moving to West Frankfort she became a member of First Baptist Church of West Frankfort, and she has been a member of University Baptist Church of Carbondale since 1961. June was an avid sports fan and accompanied her husband, Bill, who was the assistant athletic director at SIUC, on many trips to recruit football and basketball players. She rarely missed a game in either sport at SIUC in more than 30 years. She would watch college and professional football for hours at a time on Saturdays and Sundays in the autumn. But her greatest love in sports was golf, a game she played very well. She had been a member of the Jackson County Country Club since 1960. She won the annual Women's Club Championship on 10 different occasions and was runner-up on five others. She also won many local and regional tournaments and placed in many others. June enjoyed playing bridge and gin-rummy with her friends, raising flowers and traveling with her husband and life mate, Bill. But she seemed to have the most fun when she was playing with her grandchildren. She always remained young at heart. June had a wonderful life, and she was one of God's blessings to everyone who knew her well. She will be dearly missed.

Donald McCree

JOHNSTON CITY -- Donald McCree, 84, died at 3:40 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in St. Louis University Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City.

Louise Lemasters

MARION -- Louise Lemasters, 80, of Braselton, Ga., and formerly of Marion, passed away at 1:24 p. m., Monday, June 28, 2004, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center of Gainesville, Ga. She was born at Paulton on Jan. 22, 1924, the daughter of Samuel Dellos and Beulah Pearl (Ozment) Chase. Louise was united in marriage to Clifford O. Lemasters on Sept. 20, 1941, at Jackson, Mo. They shared nearly 63 years of marriage. Louise was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Marion, since 1958, taking an active part in the church for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Association and the Overcomer's Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Marion, and served as an officer, she was Past Worthy Matron and was actively involved in the Past Worthy Matrons Club. She was supportive of the Rainbow Girls and served on the board for 10 years. Louise was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. Caring for her family and home was a great part of her life. She also kept busy with hobbies of crocheting and sewing. She is survived by her husband, Clifford of Braselton, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Steve Walters of Braselton, Ga. and Sharon and Larry Cody of Indialantic, Fla.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dwight Lemasters of Atlanta, Ga. and Kenneth and Luana Lemasters of Sumner, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Beth Hamer and her husband, Bill, of Marion; eight grandchildren, Lisa Forbes and her husband, Derek, Anne Baldwin and her husband, Gene, Mitchell Lemasters and his wife, Jamie, Jarrod Lemasters and his wife, Jane, Trista Clark and her husband, Jason, Kara Gutierrez and her husband, Mario, Ethan Lemasters and his wife, Nicki and Janel Lemasters; 14 great-grandchildren, also several cousins, other family members and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter, Wanda Faye Lemasters in 1952. Arrangements for Louise Lemasters have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, IL. A time of the visitation for family and friends will be held between the hours of 5 to 8 p. m. today, July 1, 2004, at the funeral home. The funeral service for Louise Lemasters will be at 11 a. m. Edward Teckorius

HERRIN -- Edward F. Teckorius, 77, died at 11:55 p. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at home. Services will be at 10 a. m. Saturday in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m. Friday in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with a prayer service at 5 p. m.

Gene Chamness

MURPHYSBORO -- Gene Chamness, 82, of rural Murphysboro, died in his sleep Wednesday morning at home. He was born Dec. 19, 1921, at Marion, the son of Benjamin and Esther Marks Chamness. On Dec. 20, 1947, he was married to Ludine Cecil. Gene was a 30 mail carrier for the postal service, first in Carbondale and later in rural Carrier. He was a P-38 Pilot in the Army Air Corp in World War II in Europe, flying recon missions out of Italy over the Balkans and Southern Europe. He was a member of VFW 2605. He served on the Murdale Water District Board for 21 years, 19 years as chairman when he retired in May 2003. He formed the Boy Scout Troop at Grace United Methodist Church more than 50 years ago and continued as the coordinator of the troop. In addition to his woodworking hobby, he especially enjoyed golfing with the Senior Golf Association at Hickory Ridge Golf Course. He was a 65 year member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale where he served as head usher and on most committees and boards during those years. Survivors include his wife Ludine of Murphysboro; son, Gary and wife Holly Chamness of Hurst; daughter, Sue Ellen and husband Sid Klotz of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Kellett of San Antonio, Nathan Chamness of Midwest City, Okla., Elizabeth and husband Mark Chaney of Carbondale, Tanya Kellett of San Antonio, Douglas Klotz of San Antonio and Danny Young of Salt Lake City; two great-grandchildren, Brendon Klotz of San Antonio and Claudia Chamness of Midwest City, Okla.; and his extended family of four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Pauline Kohlmeyer of Augusta, Ga., Jennie and husband Ray Crawshaw of Elkville, Rachel Moore of Murphysboro, Ann and husband Homer Watson of Perryville, Mo., and Louie E. and wife Judy Cecil of Carbondale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Jim and Charles Cecil. Services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale, with the Rev. Larry Gilbert and the Rev. Sally Hamon officiating. Interment will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory with full military honors by the American Legion, VFW and disabled veterans of Carbondale and Murphysboro. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church on Tower Road in Carbondale and after 10 a. m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested by the family for the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Hilda Hartman

CHESTER -- Hilda A. Hartman, 85, died at 3:20 p. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, with the Rev. Mark Willig officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. today and 7:30 to 9:30 a. m. Friday at the Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, and then one hour prior to the service at the church. Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements.

Dan Moss

MARION -- Dan Clyde Moss, 80, of Marion passed away at 6:10 p. m. Tuesday, June 20, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be held at 4:30 p. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Pastor Howard Strunk officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p. m. today, July 1, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will be at McKinney Chapel Cemetery south of Marion. military rites will be conducted by the Marion V. F. W. Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Bethlehem Church; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mr. Moss was born on March 31, 1924, in Goreville, to Burt and Mindy (Winn) Moss. He married Mabel Sullivan on Oct. 18, 1947, in Jonesboro, and she survives. Other survivors include daughter, Linda and Ira Tripp Sr. of Cobden; son and special friend, Mike Moss and Alana Murphy of Marion; grandchildren, Ira and Lisa Tripp, Jr. of Buncombe, Dustin Tripp of Creal Springs; Michele Moss of Wisconsin, and Terri Jean Moss who is in the U. S. Army; great grandchildren, Michael, Logan and Alexis Tripp; sister, Ruby Yewell of Golconda; half brother, Jean and Betty McKinney of Abion. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Paul, Albert and Carl Moss; and one infant brother. Mr. Moss was a member of Bethlehem Church and served as Sunday school superintendent, music director and he was also a deacon. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Eula Horner

CARTERVILLE -- Eula Imogene Horner, 86, of Carterville, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at West Oak Rehab Center in Houston. Services will be at 10 a. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with the Rev. Randy Strain officiating. Eula was born on June 28, 1917, in Carterville, to Arthur and Bertie (Ledford) Baker. She married Homer Lee Horner and he preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1993. She is survived by her granddaughter, Sheryl Strain and her husband Randy of Katy, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Loren, and Austin William Strain, all of Katy, Texas; and a half sister, Wanda Fonville of Cuba, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, William Spiller; three aunts; two uncles and four half brothers. Eula was a homemaker. She was a member of the Carterville First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Carterville High School in 1935 and then graduated from Browns Business College. Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cecil E. 'Elza' Walker

Johnson COUNTY -- Cecil E. 'Elza' Walker, 90, of Riverview, Mich., formerly of Galesburg, passed away at 6:30 p. m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at Oakwood skilled Nursing Center in Trenton, Mich. Cecil had celebrated his 90th birthday with family 11 days prior to his death. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, near Buncombe with Mr. James Ward, a family friend, officiating. military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove Cemetery or the American Cancer Society, envelopes will be available at the cemetery or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. He was born on April 8, 1914, in rural Johnson County near Goreville. He was the son of Emory and Ethel (Burlison) Walker. Cecil was united in marriage to Christina Deming, who was from Anna, on April 29, 1942, in South Mills, N. C. She survives. They were just 10 days short of being married 62 years together. Other survivors include his children, Joe Dean Jacqueline Walker of St. Louis and Miralee Walker William Ruhlig of Southgate, Mich.; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; brother, Val Gene Walker of Ventura, Calif; and sister, Velma Osman of Kankakee. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Melvin, Everette, Thomas, Earl, and Herschel Walker; four sisters, Einez Walker, Faye Lehnus, Hazel Bond, Ruby Oaks; and two grandsons, Daniel Walker and James Ruhlig. Cecil was a 20 year Naval Veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflicts. Prior to World War II he was stationed for three years in China. During World War II he served on the USS Barnegat and the heavy cruiser USS Marblehead. The last 12 years of service he was stationed at Naval Air Station Grosse Isle, Michigan. He retired in 1956 and settled with his family in Galesburg, where he then worked in construction until again retiring for good in 1985. Cecil was a member of Galesburg American Legion Post 749, a past President of the Galesburg Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 518, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Galesburg. He often told some great stories of his upbringing during the great depression on the family farm near Goreville. Often during his life he returned to the Goreville area to visit family and friends. He always considered Southern Illinois his true home as did many folks that left the area during the depression.

Donna Russell

WEST FRANKFORT -- Donna Russell, 63, died at 11:45 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Franklin Hospital in Benton. Arrangements are incomplete at Union Funeral Home in Benton.

Elmer C. Ruppert

PINCKNEYVILLE -- Elmer C. Ruppert, 81, passed away at 10:19 p. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at home. Elmer was born Jan. 27, 1923, in rural Pinckneyville, the son of Henry and Lucy (Giacomo) Ruppert. Elmer was born, raised, lived, and died in the same house. He was united in marriage to Rose Gertrude (Sis) Wright in 1950, and she survives. Elmer served in World War II as a private first class, cook, military police and war prisoner guard. He was a retired lifelong farmer who loved working with the soil and in his retirement. He loved to garden and grow delicious watermelons, which he shared with family and friends. He spent his retirement fishing, hunting, target shooting, walking in the woods and hunting mushrooms. He would always help anyone in need. He will be surely missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Sis; five of their six children, Lavonne, married to Stan Morris, Reverend E. Alan; Judy (deceased in 1976), Nina, Caroline (married to Don Hill, Jr. ), and Jeffrey. All live in Pinckneyville area except for Lavonne, who lives in the Swanwick area. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Katrina (Trina), Perry, and Miranda Morris; his brother, Frank who is married to Minerva Robb of rural Swanwick; two sisters, Rose, married to Dale Hamilton of Alton, and Shirley Ruppert of Pinckneyville. Also, his mother-in-law, Mary (Degenhardt)Wright, who is 92-years-old, and the wife of his deceased father-in-law, Earl Wright; his sister-in-law, Francis (Schrum) Wright, wife of his deceased brother-in-law, Leo Wright, also from the Pinckneyville area. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors and a foster-like grandson, E. J. Jarvis from Belleville. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, in the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Todd's Mill, with Father James Van Oss officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Cemetery in Todd's Mill. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, and 8 a. m. to 9:30 a. m. on Saturday at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville. A service will be prayed at 7 p. m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Luke Memorial Hospice or Masses.

David Mayhue

CENTRALIA -- David E. Mayhue, 82, died at 4:06 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday at Oakgrove Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday at Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia. Vickery Funeral Home of Ridgway is in charge of local arrangements.

Hunter Odell Lauderdale

BROUGHTON -- Hunter Odell Lauderdale, was still born Monday, June 28, 2004, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. He was the son of Sherry (Brown) Lauderdale of Eldorado and Billy Lauderdale of Broughton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Ashley Lauderdale; a step- brother, Joshua Chapman of Yankeetown, Ind.; and a step-sister, Cheyenne Yates of Harrisburg; grandparents, Della and Robert Simmons of Eldorado, and grandmothers, Laverne Harris and Jackie Lauderdale, both of Harrisburg; several aunts and uncles survive, too. Services will precede burial at 1 p. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Colbert Cemetery, with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. There will be no visitation; those wishing to attend are asked to gather at the cemetery. Reed Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Hanks

MARION -- Edith Mae Franklin Hanks passed away at 3:30 a. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at home. Edith was born Sept. 19, 1935, to Fred and Anna Franklin in Marion. She married Gilbert Hanks on May 24, 1952, in Piggott, Ark., and he survives in Marion. Edith was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include husband, Gilbert Hanks of Marion; five sons, Mickey Hanks and wife Bonnie of Johnston City, Keith Hanks and wife Jennie of Buncombe, Gilbert Hanks Jr. and wife Cynthia of Crab Orchard, Tracy Hanks and wife Paula of Marion, and Lacey Hanks of Marion; five daughters, Debbie Kelton of Marion, Rebecca Goins and husband Daniel T. of Goreville, Nancy Cox and husband Charlie of Marion, Elizabeth Hearn and husband Roger of Marion, and Mary Melissa Hanks of Marion; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Terry of Goreville and Edna Purnell of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, two sons-in-law and one sister. Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Jerry Schell officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. HERRIN -- Mark A. Gonzalez, 37, passed away at 12:04 a. m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin. Mr. Gonzalez was former truck driver for Wolahan Lumber and Home Improvement Center and Pepsi in Marion. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was born July 23, 1966, in Elmhurst, to Ramon G. and Charlene C. (Sheraden) Gonzalez. Mark was united in marriage with Johanna Maria Boerma on Aug. 8, 1998, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She survives of Herrin. Also surviving are his father; Ramon Gonzalez of Brownsville, Texas; sister, Heather Gonzalez of Brownsville, Texas; brother, Tony Gonzalez of Lumberton, Texas; five nieces and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Samuel and Johanna Boerma of Hanover Park; and his three very special companions, Smith & Wesson, Belle Starr and Belle Starr, Jr. He was preceded in death by his mother; his first wife, April Inez (Orr) Gonzalez; and a cousin, Michael Figuroa. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Tom Boerma officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Texas. Family and friends may call from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Alan G. 'A. C. ' Conley

TUNNEL HILL -- Alan G. 'A. C. ' Conley, 59, of Tunnel Hill, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, as the result of a tractor accident near his home. Services will be at 3 p. m. Friday in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p. m. Friday in the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 3 p. m. Saturday in Cuba Cemetery in Cuba. Memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, 1465 S. Grand Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63104. A. C. was born Oct. 5, 1944, in Canton, the son of Samuel Bert and Vivian (Owens) Conley. He was united in marriage to Ruthy Newlun on Feb. 5, 1965, in Cuba, and she survives. Other survivors include his father, Bert Conley of Cuba; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Paul 'Junior' Odum of Tunnel Hill; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jamie Conley of Tunnel Hill; three grandchildren, Brooke Ellen Johnson, Alana Jo Odum and Brody James Conley; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Lynn Schwantes of Lancaster, N. Y.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gail and Joanne Conley of Huntinton, Vt. Alan was employed by Amax Coal Co. as a coal miner until his retirement in 2000. Locally, Alan was employed by the Vienna branch of Southern Farm Service. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding and working on his property. Alan especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Edward 'E.C.' Russell

HERRIN -- Edward 'E. C. ' Russell, 85, died at 2:15 a. m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Herrin Hospital. E. C. was born July 10, 1918, in Harrisburg, to Edward Clyde and Mabel May (Rogers) Russell. He married Melba Blessing on May 2, 1942, in Centralia. He was retired, having owned and operated, along with his wife, Russell's Texico in Herrin since 1948. He was a Presbyterian. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was a member of Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts. He also was a former member of the Herrin Elks. He enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed yard work, especially at his son's yard. Survivors Include his wife, Melba Russell of Herrin; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Sherry Russell of Herrin; granddaughter, Shannie Russell of Chicago; grandson, Ryan Russell of Phoenix; two brothers, Charles Russell of Energy and Donald Russell of Springfield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and John Belt of Kissimee, Fla., Drucilla and Harley Helms of Freeman Spur, and Audrey and Tom Hamilton of Naples, Fla.; sisters, Reba Brown of Delavin, Wis., and Dorthy Laurell of Bakersfield, Calif.; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Basil, Clifford and Jerry Russell; and two sisters, Mary and Beverly Russell. Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Whitfield officiating. military graveside rites will be conducted by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Shirley Dudenbostel

STEELEVILLE -- Shirley A. Dudenbostel, 64, died at 6:15 p. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, in Memorial Hospital in Chester. Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, with Nan Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Steeleville. Visitation will be after 4 p. m. Thursday and from 7:30 to 9 a. m. at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville and from 10 to 11 a. m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Oncology Department at Memorial Hospital of Chester or Peace Lutheran Church. Mrs. Dudenbostel was born Friday, May 10, 1940, in Chester, to Oran J. Stirnaman and Anna Wingerter Stirnaman. She married Marvin E. Dudenbostel on Nov. 2, 1957, in Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. He survives of Steeleville. Other survivors include sons, Rick L. and wife Judy Dudenbostel of St. Mary's, Mo.; Randy and wife Debbie Dudenbostel of Chester, Mark A. Dudenbostel of New Athens and Greg Dudenbostel and friend Judy of Steeleville; six grandchildren, Gary James Dudenbostel, Amanda Dudenbostel, Sean Kempfer, Apryl Dudenbostel, Christopher Dudenbostel, and Alicia Dudenbostel; stepfather, Charles Kunick of Granite City; one brother, Jerry and wife Janet Kunick of Centralia; one sister, Sandy and husband John Chandler of Granite City; and one aunt, Ida Mason of Granite City. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother.
