ELDORADO -- Cecil Brown, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday in Watson Funeral Home, with Father Don Abell officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Brown owned and operated Brown Excavating Company until his retirement. Upon retirement, he was involved with the operation of Four Seasons Supply in Eldorado until his death. He was a member of International Operating Engineers No. 318 for 40 years. He was a longtime member of the Eldorado Mens Club. He was born on Sept. 12, 1938, in Eldorado, to F. X. and Madeline (Horton) Brown. Survivors include his former wife and longtime friend, Barbara Treat of Eldorado; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ray Brown and Chris and Christine Brown, all of Eldorado; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and John Battles of Canton and Marlene and Kenny Roberts of Eldorado; two brothers, Louis Brown and Bill Brown, both of Eldorado; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Neva and David Mills of Ridgway and Betty Hooper of Westland, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Brown, and three sisters, Henrietta Reed, Mary Leeke and Frances Balog Wohlwend.

MAKANDA -- Rose Pinkston, 93, left this world from her home in Makanda at 8 p. m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, to join her beloved husband, Conway. She was born Oct. 15, 1910, in Prairie du Rocher, a daughter of the late William and Lucille Grassinger- Blow. She married Conway C. Pinkston on Sept. 5, 1942, and he preceded her in death June 3, 1998. Mrs. Pinkston attended Mass at the Newman Center at SIU and at St. Joseph Church in Cobden. She was a homemaker most of her life. Survivors include a son, Bill of Woodland Park, Colo.; two daughters, Muriel (Ron) Barber of O'Fallon and Mary (Steven) Kappel of Makanda; and two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Kappel of Makanda. Services will be at 11:30 a. m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel, Old Illinois 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a. m. Saturday in the funeral home.

ELDORADO -- Charles W. Baugher Sr., 80, of Eldorado died at 12:24 p. m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, with Dr. Blaine Welker officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery
with military rites. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p. m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the funeral home. He was born March 27, 1924, in Eldorado to Edward L. and Effie Mae (Smith) Baugher Sr. On Oct. 19, 1946, he married June (Simmons) Baugher, who preceded him in death on July 21, 1990. He was a brick mason and a self-employed contractor. He was a member of Beulah Heights Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion; a lifetime member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmans Local No. 8 for 58 years; and a partner in Tom McGowan and Company Masonry and the Contractors of Eldorado for 35 years. He fought in World War II and was a truck driver, technician fifth grade, Company F, 141st Infantry, 36th Division. He was inducted Feb. 24, 1943, and received a rifle expert designation before being shipped to Europe. He departed Feb. 3, 1945, serving in the Rhineland campaign. His decorations and citations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, American Theater Service Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 29, 1946. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Debbie Baugher of Seymour, Tenn., Jamie and Melanie Baugher of Eldorado, and Rafe and Penny Baugher of Eldorado; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joanna and Jim Davidson of Harrisburg, Janeen and Jim Lasswell of Johnston City, and Robin Lazaro of Eldorado; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward L. and Ann Baugher of Eldorado and the Rev. James W. and Judy Baugher; one sister and brother-in-law, Nella Mae and Gene Schlau of Centralia; 16 grandchildren, Alan, Jeff, Jon and Jessica Baugher, Debra Pegalis, Jason Davidson, Amy Hawkins, Brad Davidson, Tamra Hosman, Stewart and Adam Laswell, Amy Reynolds and Nathan Baugher, Josh Baugher and Aaron and Josh Lazaro; and 12 great-grandchildren.

MURPHYSBORO -- Gary Dean 'Geeter' Piquard, 52, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:42 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 127, VFW Post 7190 and 2605 and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p. m. today and until the hour of services Friday in the funeral home. Gary was born Jan. 30, 1952, in Murphysboro, to Charles H. Piquard and Danis (Phillips). Mr. Piquard was a member of Sandridge Baptist Church in Sandridge. He liked to hunt, fish and golf and NASCAR racing. He was a concrete finisher and a member of the Plasterers and Cement Local 143. Mr. Piquard was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietname War. He married Bobbie Allison on Dec. 31, 1998, in Murphysboro, and she survives and his father; two children, Gary Dean Piquard II of Murphysboro and Wanda June Lane and her husband, Ryan Lane of Jackson, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Jessica Ann Schemonia and her boyfriend Larry Ragsdale of Buncombe; two step-grandchildren, Dustin Ragsdale and Joleen Ragsdale of Buncombe; two brothers, Charles 'Butch' Piquard and his fiancee, Emily Oltrogge of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Danny Piquard and his wife, Deborah Piquard of Murphysboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Vicki Cannon and Joe Cannon of Murphysboro. He was preceded in death by his mother.

PITTSBURG -- Dale D. Ludwig, 73, of Pittsburg, died at 12:35 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be held at 3 p. m. Dale was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Three Rivers, Mich., the son of Fred and Beatrice Ludwig. He married Esther Adamson in 1953 in Virginia Beach, Va., and she survives. Dale retired from the Navy as a storekeeper Chief Petty Officer and served during the Vietname War. He was a member of the Marion VFW Post 1301. He is survived by two sons, Derrick Ludwig and David Ludwig, both of Santa Clara, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Tiffany Ludwig, Catarena Ludwig and Dwayne Ludwig. He was preceded in death by his parents.

She married James B. Motsinger on Dec. 11, 1938, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1993. Dorothy was retired from General Motors in La Grange. She had been a resident of Shawnee Christian Nursing Center since August 2000. She had been a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Johnston City since 1956. She is survived by one daughter, Judy Motsinger of Johnston City; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Joyce Motsinger of Phoenix, Md.; four granddaughters, Cathy Bonter of Nicholasville, Ky., Suzen Gustems of London, Ky., Tammy Ross of Avondale, Ariz., and Desiree Helixon of Lake Dallas, Texas; one grandson, Ronald James Motsinger of Phoenix; one sister and brother-in-law, Laverna and Otis Harrison of Mount Vernon; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Don and Betty Tisch of Marion and Bruce Tisch of Johnston City; three nieces, Melissa and husband, Tom Winn of Christopher, Stacey Tisch of Marion, and Vikki Swain of Marion; and one nephew, Don and wife, Florie Harrison of Chicago. (Andrews) McIntosh. She married Harmen A. Whitecotton on March 7, 1950, in Chicago. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2003. She was a member of Crossroads Tabernacle Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening. She had been married to Warren Crawford and later married Martin H. Wald on Dec. 16, 1978, in Flanagan. He survives. She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Flanagan Christian Church. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Linda Crawford of Jacksonville, Ala.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Gary Crull of Pontiac and Connie and Frank Summers of Chenoa; seven grandchildren, Jon, Craig and Penny Crawford, Heather and husband Rob O'Neal, Eric Bayston, and Chad and Amanda Summers; and seven great-grandchildren. Lena D. Parran
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS -- Lena D. Parran was born on June 25, 1920, in Tunica, Miss., to the late Perry Valentine and Susie Gardner Valentine. She was united with Christ at an early age and attended Bethel AME Church and Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church during her tenure in the state of Illinois. She was a faithful choir member and trustee and a devoted church member for most of her life. After moving to Georgia, she became a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Alpharetta. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Jerrold B. Parran on Aug. 4, 1940. From this union were born Gregory, Geraldine and Bette. Lena epitomized the Virtuous Woman of Proverbs 31, taking special care of her children and family, supporting them in every endeavor. Lena attended Southern Illinois University majoring in consumer education. She worked as a librarian in the rare book department of SIU and eventually became a consumer education specialist for the University of Illinois. She assumed this position at the university after beginning in the custodial department and proving to her employers what everyone else already knew -- she was no ordinary woman. Believing in self improvement, she was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. She worked on various civic boards and community service projects. She had a passion for helping the elderly and was a national traveler. She loved all genres of music, including gospel and the blues. On Thursday, July 29, 2004, Lena Parran made the transition from life to everlasting life at 10:52 p. m. at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga. She leaves to celebrate her love one sister, Mary Lindsey; one son, Gregory Parran; two daughters, Geraldine Greer and Bette (Gary Sr. ) Butler; seven grandsons, Charles Greer Jr., Gregory Parran II, Gary Butler Jr., Courtland Greer, Austin Butler, James Parran and Ryan Butler; 10 great-grandchildren, Michaela Greer, Christian Greer, Rachel Butler, Mariah Butler, Gregory Parran III, Alexandria Parran, Chandler Greer, Caleb Greer, Colby Greer and Christopher Butler; and a host of other family members and friends. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, are her siblings, John Valentine, Theodore Valentine and Clara Robinson. A home-going service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Rock Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a. m. to noon Saturday at the church.

HERRIN -- Charles A. Horn passed away at 3:30 p. m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in Herrin Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 20, 1943, in Energy, to David Leon and Laura Jean (Sellars) Horn. He attended Energy and Herrin schools. After retiring in 1998 from McKesson Co., he spent time hiking,
hunting and with his special grandson Tristan and the rest of his family. He was a member of Hurricane Memorial Church in Herrin. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Greg Houseworth, one son, Steven Horn, their mother, Jennie (Marshall) Horn-Absher, and one grandson, Tristan Houseworth, all of Herrin; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara L. Myrick of Herrin and Wilma J. and Wallace Ridgway of New Lenox; three nieces, Jaki Hosman and her husband, Stacy, of Marion, Cindy Myrick of Buncomb and Julie Barnes of Herrin; two nephews and their wives, Richard and April Myrick of Reno, Nev., and Bob and Kathy Prather of Carbondale; seven great-nieces; five great-nephews; nine great-great-nieces; four great-great-nephews; one aunt, Katie Vancil of Dowell; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Horn; aunt and uncle, Lucille and Buck Barnes; an uncle, Fisher Horn; one brother-in-law, Rodger Myrick; one nephew, Michael Prather; and several other aunts and uncles.
