Clarence 'Bones' Tabor
MARION -- Clarence Leroy 'Bones' Tabor, 68, of Fort Myers, Fla. , formerly of Marion, passed away Aug. 31, 2004. He was born Feb. 3, 1936, to Clarence and Betty (Piccora) Tabor. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann (Hafeli) Tabor of Fort Myers; one son, Michael Tabor of Newburg, Ind.; two daughters, Vicki Pals of Effingham and Deborah Apke of Strasburg, Ill.; one sister, Beverly Tweedle of Effingham; three grandsons, Derek and Brett Tabor and Todd Apke; three granddaughters, Heather Holscher, Heidi Goldstein and Tammy Winters; and seven great-grandchildren. Clarence retired from Illinois Central/Amtrak in 1997 and moved to Fort Myers in 1998. He was a U. S.
Army veteran and a member of the Church at Siesta Bay in Fort Myers. He had a great passion for golf and watching his grandsons participate in sports. A memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in the First Church of God, located on Broeking Road off Illinois 13 East in Marion.
Frankie Lee Roach
LOGAN -- Frankie Lee Roach, 64, died at 8:57 p. m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at St. Louis University Hospital. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the Logan Church of God, with the Rev. Melton Nelms officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p. m. Friday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Church of God and will be accepted at the funeral home. Mr. Roach was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Logan, the son of Kenneth and Eulon (Tate) Roach. He married the former Carolyn Spain on Nov. 28, 1959 and she survives. He was a retired coal miner and current secretary of the UMWA Local 1487 and was employed as a custodian and bus driver at the Logan Consolidated School District 110. He was a member of the Logan Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Roach of Thompsonville; two sons, Kenneth Roach and wife, Donna of Logan, Robert Roach and wife, Chris of Benton; six grandchildren, Jeff Roach, Mandy Roach, Chelsey Roach, Brittany Roach, Macey Roach and Lauryn Roach; one great-grandchild, Addison Clayton; mother, Eulon Roach of Logan; three sisters, Judy Summers and husband Ken of Parrish, Connie Ruffino and husband, Ed of Benton, Bonnie Raines of Bourbonnais; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Mike Raines.

MARION -- Mary L. Kahlor, 84, of Marion, passed away at 10:20 p. m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services were held at 11 a. m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, in the Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Ed Martin officiating. Visitation was from 9 to 11 a. m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial was in Mount Pleasant 'Shed' Cemetery
in Marion. Mrs. Kahlor was born April 8, 1920, in Ozark, to Herbert and Ida (Rawlinson) Rodgers. She married Loren Angus Kahlor on Aug. 15, 1947, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1983. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lea Burnham, Glenda Mae Russell and boyfriend Pat Smothers, and Margaret Ann and husband Henry Roberts, all of Marion; one stepdaughter, Thelma May of Peoria; her grandchildren, Brady and LeNa Russell, Angie Russell, Tyson and Amanda Roberts, and Becky and Bruce Rosekopf; one great-grandchild, Alexia Nichole Roberts; and one son-in-law, Terry Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Leroy and Lester Rodgers; and one sister, Nelle Schell. Mrs. Kahlor was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Emmerson Electric in St. Louis. She loved to garden, sew and do canning.

Madeline M. (Kerr) Hinkle
MOUNT VERNON -- Madeline M. (Kerr) Hinkle, 79, of Mount Vernon, formerly of West Frankfort, went peacefully to be with the Lord with her family surrounding her at 9:56 a. m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Saint Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Madeline was born Dec. 11, 1924, in West Frankfort, to Arthur E. and Nellie (Bullington) Kerr. She married Oliver Hinkle in 1955 and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1963. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Madeline will be remembered for her kind, caring compassionate and selfless ways. She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy and husband, Curt Larsen of Mount Vernon, Betty Harris of De Soto and Diana and husband, John Tate of Marion; two sisters, Betty and husband, Harry Stipes of West Frankfort and Marie and husband, Hoover Rowland of Zwolle, La.; grandchildren, Brandy Tate-Lynn and husband, Ryan Lynn of Herrin, Seth and wife, Meranda Tate of Whittington, Brittani Tate of West Frankfort, Jaime Essex Cubley, Travis Essex and Holly Essex and fiance Wade Hart, all of Mount Vernon, and Derek Harris of De Soto; and great-grandchildren, Makenzee and Jonathan Tate and Madilyn Cubley. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy Jacaway, two brothers, Eddie Kerr and Ralph Ferguson and several nieces and nephews. Viola Zuchel
MORTON -- Viola R. Zuchel, 99, of Morton, died at 1 p. m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Morton Villa Care Center. She was born Jan. 29, 1905, in Carbondale, to Alvin and Wenona Flanagan Thompson. She married Walter Zuchel in Peoria. He preceded her in death in June 1972. Surviving are three grandchildren, Thomas and wife Beverly Wilhelm of Loveland, Colo. , Larry and wife Sandra Wilhelm of Pekin, and Barbara and husband Robert Hofmann of Deer Creek; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Cliff, on Nov. 15, 2002; five brothers; four sisters; and one great-great-grandson. She was a waitress during the 1920s and later became a homemaker. She was raised in the Baptist faith. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday in Oaklawn Cemetery

Dr. Barbara Cordoni Kupiec
MURPHYSBORO -- Dr. Barbara Cordoni Kupiec, 70, of Murphysboro, died at 6:50 a. m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Peoria, the daughter of Edward Keene and Grace Wolpert Keene. On June 9, 1984, she was married to Greg Kupiec. She graduated from Southwestern University and earned both her master's degree and educational doctorate from Duke University. She was a nationally recognized authority on learning disabilities, serving on both a presidential commission and a governor's commission for special education. She established the first program in the nation to recognize and assist college students with learning disabilities. She led this program, known as Project Achieve, until her retirement from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She was Teacher of the Year in 1986 at SIUC and in 1997 was awarded the Learning Disabilities Association of America's Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Cordoni Kupiec was a member and past president of the Audubon Society and was active in the Stage Company as a director and an actor. She was a world traveler and was interested in birding and wildlife. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale. Survivors include her husband, Greg Kupiec of Murphysboro; one daughter, Heather Ferry of Atlanta; two sons, Mark McGrath of Baltimore and Maj. Lance Cordoni, MD, U. S.
Army, stationed in Hawaii; eight grandchildren, Ian and Kyle Ferry, Brian and Nicole Ely, Tyler Cordoni, and Jack, George and Tess McGrath; her mother, Grace Werner of Murphysboro; and one sister, April Kiskaddon of Boston. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Tara Lynn Cordoni-Ely, in 2000. Memorial services will be at 11 a. m. Thursday in Grace United Methodist Church, located on Tower Road in Carbondale, with the Pastor Rev. Sally Hamon officiating. She was born to August and Elizabeth (Herschbach) Riechman on Jan. 29, 1921, in Chester. She married Albert 'Pete' Moellering on January 18, 1947, in Chester. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1994. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Chester. Marilyn was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Detroit, to Gerald and Mary (Dunn) Repack. She married Stephen Thomas Tyman on June 21, 1980, in Detroit. He survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors include one son, Damon Tyman of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Shannon Tyman of Philadelphia; and her mother, Mary Repack of Windsor, Ontario. She is preceded in death by her father. Marilyn retired from SIUC as an instructor in the Computer Science Department. William Lee Kerr
HERRIN -- William Lee 'Bill' Kerr, of Cut-N-Shoot, Texas, our beloved husband, dad and grandpa, was released to heaven on Sept. 3, 2004. Bill was born at home in Energy and grew up in Herrin. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Jean Flener, and they has two sons. After living in Illinois; Georgia; and North Richland Hills, Texas, they finally settled in Cut-N-Shoot. Bill was in the restaurant business and was district manager for more than 17 years. He then owned and operated his own business in Cut-N-Shoot until his retirement in 2004. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Kerr, and his beloved grandparents, Lee and Cora Flanagan. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 51 years, Phyllis Kerr; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie Lee and Pam Kerr of Splendora and William 'Derek' and Jennifer Kerr of Cut-N-Shoot; three grandchildren, Jennifer Faith Kerr of Willis, David Edward Kerr of Splendora and Kayla LeeAnn Kerr of Splendora; and two great-grandchildren, Cody Lee and Holliday BreAnn of Willis. He is also survived by his mother, Mildred Kinsey; two sisters, Doris Hanson and Debbie Tabor; and one niece, Lynda, all of Lyons, Colo. Bill also has numerous other family members and good friends who survive him. Bill was a very well-known and well-liked man in his small community. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch on a nice day, drinking coffee and visiting. He also enjoyed teasing and playing practical jokes on the people he liked and loved. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, sons and grandchildren. A memorial service was held in Bill's honor on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas, with Pastor Terry Swonke officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p. m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Bankston was born Dec. 14, 1929, in Williamson County, to Earl and Myrtle (Green) Bankston. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ragina L. and Kenny Crouch of Indianapolis; one son, Rob Bankston of Marion; his grandchildren, Blake Anthony Allee, Robert and Julie Bloodworth, and Steven and Debbie Bloodworth; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George Bankston and Bob Bankston. Mr. Bankston retired from Allen Industries after many years of service. He was a member of the Williamson County Shrine Club and Masonic Lodge 89 A. F. and A. M. He was an avid 'Goldwing' cyclist. Memorials may be made to the Williamson County Shrine Club. WOLF LAKE -- Steven Michael Cain, 54, died at 5:52 p. m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, east of Anna. He was born on Sept. 13, 1949, in Tuscola, the son of Clifford Dean and Clara Louise (Peddycourt) Cain. He attended Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna and was a member of the Anna Moose Lodge 1346. Steven had a kind heart and was always wanting to do anything he could to help others. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Cliff and Clara of Wolf Lake; one brother, Phillip Cain of Wolf Lake and his special friend, Marsha Wilson of Cobden; two sisters, Brenda and husband David Schlenker of Anna and Donna and husband Tom Morse of Longwood, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. WEST FRANKFORT -- Kevin Ray Meneese, age 37, of West Frankfort, departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004. Kevin was born March 10, 1967, in Marion, a son of John and Janice Kay (Sloan) Meneese. He was the beloved son of Herbert P. Smith. Kevin was married to Jackie Meneese. He was employed at Custom Stainless in Benton. He loved to fish, cook and make his loved ones around him laugh. He took the utmost pride in everything he did in his life. Kevin was a Baptist. Survivors include his mother, Janice Sloan of West Frankfort; his father, Herbert P. Smith and stepmother Kim of Thompsonville; three daughters, Danielle Meneese of Herrin, Diane Meneese of Pittsburg and Michelle Simmons of Pittsburg; one sister, Candida Conley of West Frankfort; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Lisa Meneese of Cambria; two half-sisters, Tonya Fitch of Thompsonville and Tina Meneese of Marion; his grandmother, Helen Meneese of Marion; one niece, Madison Conley; and several uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his father; one son, Kevin Ray Jr.; one brother, Herbert Smith Jr.; and his grandparents. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Margaret Moon
COBDEN -- Margaret Moon, 85, of Cobden, passed away on Friday morning, Sept. 3, 2004, at home. Mrs. Moon was born on April 12, 1919, in Jackson County, to Bertha L. (Ragsdale) and Charles A. Miller. On July 15, 1948, she married Robert Moon in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1991. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Bonnie Penrod of Cobden; three daughters and one son-in-law, Betty Gemar of Gold Canyon, Ariz. , Linda Tucker of Orlando, Fla. , and Donna and Robert Torrens of Catlett, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Wayne Miller. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, in Walker Funeral Home in Alto Pass. Juanita (Tanner) Atess
MARION -- Juanita (Tanner) Atess, daughter of the late Lloyd and Fleta Tanner, was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Marion, and died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident in Cape Coral, Fla. Juanita is survived by her husband, Robert Atess. They were married on Dec. 28, 1941, in Bob's hometown of Herrin. Also surviving is one daughter, Becky; two sons, Dale and Randy; four grandsons, Drew, Matt, and Tom Cleveland and David Atess; four granddaughters, Heather Sheets, Tracy Meracle, and Katie and Sarah Atess; and four great-grandchildren, twins Seth and Sean, Elizabeth and Faith Sheets. Juanita is also survived by her brother, Jack Tanner of Gold Canyon, Ariz. , as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends throughout the U. S. and Canada. Her brother, Bill Tanner of Alton, and still-born sister, Helen, preceded her in death. Memorial services will be conducted in Juanita's memory at 11 a. m. today in the First Baptist Church, 1735 Jackson St. , Fort Myers, Fla.
