ANNA -- Nancy (Davis) Sorrels, 78, passed away at 10:17 a. m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, surrounded by her family. Nancy was born on Feb. 3, 1926, in Anna, the daughter of Ora and Clella (Davis) Davis. She married Bill Sorrels on Sept. 9, 1945, in Anna. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1989. Surviving Nancy are 'Nancy's Girls,' Cindy and husband, Larry Swope, Mindy and husband, Larry Carter both of Anna, Cecelia and husband, James Hodges of Gatesville, Texas, Nan and husband, Maurice Ginsburg of Makanda; one brother, Jim and wife, Sandra Davis of Anna; grandchildren, Jason of Erin Karraker, Julie Hand and Eric, Jay, David and Neely Carter, Chris Hodges, Lauren Shelton, Michael Joe and Nicholas Ginsburg; great-grandchildren, Danton, Cody and Kayla Hand; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill and one grandson, Anthony Hodges. Nancy was a very engaging and social person with many interests. She loved to dote over her grandchildren and cherished her time with her many friends by playing card and planning parties. Her knack for quilting and handiwork won 'Best of Show' at the 2003 P. A. S. T. Quilt Turning. Her love for Christmas has become a family tradition and will be passed down in her loving fashion for many years and generations to come. Nancy and Bill were co-owners of Jo-An Laundry and Cleaners in Anna, Vienna and Cairo for many years until their retirement. Services for Nancy Davis Sorrels will be held at 11 a. m. today at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna, with the Rev. Steve Wilkinson, Monsignor Dennis Schaefer and Sister Joan Backes officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. NEW ATHENS -- Katie F. Stork, 91, of New Athens, formerly of Walsh, passed away 4:10 a. m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at New Athens Home. She was born to the late Martin and Lena (Stumpe) Young on Sept. 15, 1912, in Evansville. She married Arthur Stork on June 21, 1932; he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1963. Arthur and Katie managed the Stork General Merchandise Store in Walsh and Ellis Grove. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Chester, a former member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, Walsh, and Altar Sodality at St. Pius V Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Charles (Pat) Stork of Sparta and Donald (Joanna) Stork of Belleville; one brother, William Young of Chester; one sister Clara (Herb) Eggemeyer of Chester, two sisters-in-law Pauline Young of Chester and Laverne Young of Evansville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a. m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Walsh with the Rev. John J. He was a retired construction superintendent for Barter Construction Company. He was a member of the Harrisburg First Baptist Church. A member of the Masonic Lodge, Busse, Iowa, and Egyptian Shrine Club and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was born on Aug. 20, 1907, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Farrel G. And Madge (Hill) Waite. He married Levenia Jolly April 20, 1931, she died Feb. 26, 1999. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Farrel and Wanda Waite of Harrisburg, M. Jay and Judy Waite of Carrolton, Texas, Leslie Dale Waite of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Steve and Teresa Waite of Ridgefield Conn. , Ryan and Kristie Van Buren Ark. , Bryan Waite of Harrisburg; Marilyn Waite of Harrisburg, Glynda and Greg Fullbright of Auburndale Fla. , Kim Camp of Atlanta, Jae Lynn and Armondo Rangel of Lewisville, Texas and Tracy and Jeff Adams of Galatia; 15 great-grandchildren, Jason (Brittany) Fullbright of Lakeland, Fla. , Adam Leslie Taylor of Fayetteville, Ark. , Mathew Waite of Lewisville, Texas, Joseph, Anthony, and Eric Waite of Ridgefield, Conn. , Colton Wayne Adams of Galatia, Jeremy Camp of Atlanta, Mitchell Garret Waite of Van Buren, Ark. , Brittany Camp of Atlanta, Shelby Rangel of Lewisville, Texas, Olivia and Juliana Waite of Ridgeville, Conn. , Delaney Nicole and Evan Rae Adams of Galatia; great-great grandchild, Brantly Jason Fullbright of Lakeland, Fla. Leslie was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jolly, a son, Jerry Lee, his father, mother stepfather and two sisters. For 25 years Leslie and his wife enjoyed their winters at Frog Creek Campground near Palmetto, Fla. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing his catch with many friends.

Mrs. Densch was Pope County Treasurer for 16 years and a real estate saleswoman since 1952. She was a member of the Brownsfield Baptist Church. A member of the Pope County Republican Women, PTA, a home extension secretary and Order of Eastern Star of Illinois 1007. She was born on Jan. 18, 1915, in Ford's Ferry, Ky. , the daughter of Hugh and Zoa (McConnell) Curry. She married Rue Densch Sept. 18, 1937, he preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1997. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Ted Bristoe Boglino and Alice and George Thodoropoulos of Golconda; four grandchildren, Maryann and Keith Schutt of Golconda, Michael Boglino of Harrisburg, Capt. Krist and Amity Thodoropoulos, Germany, and Adrian Thodoropoulos of Golconda; four great-grandchildren, Cody Burk, Taylor Burk, Mackenzie Schutt, Kaleb Schutt; one sister-in-law, Marie Densch Gray of Carrabelle, Fla.; nieces and nephews in Florida. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Zoa (McConnell) Curry; step-father, James Ledbetter; husband, Rue Densch and one brother, Hugh Curry.
Shirley Jane (Davis) Mitroka
ROYALTON -- Shirley Jane (Davis) Mitroka, 70, died at 6:40 a. m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at home. Shirley was born Aug. 1, 1934, in Franklin County, to Isaac and Golda Gertrude (Lindsey) Davis. She married Charles Mitroka 50 years ago, April 29, 1954, in West Frankfort. He survives in Royalton. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family on the 4th of July weekend. Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Deena Mitroka Jr. of Royalton; a daughter, Kim Mitroka and Scott Shipley of Royalton; her grandchildren, Melissa Mitroka, Steve Battaglia Jr., Ashley Mitroka, Matthew Battaglia and Desrie Rideout; brothers-in-law, Mike Mitroka of Royalton, George Mitroka and his wife, Mary Ann of Howell, Mich. and a sister-in-law, Julie Lembo of Royalton. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Douglas Partin. Shirley was a homemaker and a farm wife. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, called 'Baboo' by her grandchildren. She was a member of the Holy Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church and Alter Society in Royalton. A funeral Mass for Mrs. Mitroka will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at the Orthodox Church in Royalton, with Father George Gulin officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Orthodox Cemetery, east of Royalton. Visiting hours are from 6 to 9 p. m. Wednesday at Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton where the Requiem Parastas prayer service will be held at 7 p. m. WHITTINGTON -- Vlasta (Duty) Whittington, 87, died at 3:32 p. m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Severin's Nursing Home in Benton. She was born in Franklin County on Sept. 4, 1917, the daughter of Ransom and Bertha Duty. She was a retired beautician. She married Woodrow Whittington, and he preceded her in death. Woodrow was the barber in Whittington for 70 years. She is survived by three nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Basil Whittington, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Whittington, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Whittington; and two nieces, Peggy McCann and Patsy Herring. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Johnston Funeral Home in Whittington, with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in the Shiloh Cemetery

Willard Charles Kellerman
PINCKNEYVILLE -- Willard Charles Kellerman, 85, of Columbia, formerly of Pinckneyville, passed away at 4:15 p. m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at the St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis. Williard had worked as a locomotive engineer for Penn-Central Railroad for 25 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pinckneyville. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engineers for 30 years. He was born Jan. 10, 1919, at Breese, the son of Charles Edward and Mildred Mabel (Baker) Kellerman. He married B. Faye Hutchings on Oct. 4, 1981, at Augusta, Ga. , and she survives. He is survived by his wife of Columbia; one son, Donald Gene Kellerman and wife, Carol of Mulkeytown; three daughters, Rosalie Smith of Killeen, Texas, Linda Comiskey and husband, James of Brooklyn, Mich. , and Lana Butzky and husband Karl of Livonia, Mich.; one stepson, Glenn Batson of Du Quoin; one sister; Helen Duane Lucas of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles W. Kellerman, three brothers and one sister. Services will be at 10 a. m. He was a member of the Little Chapel Church. He was a member of the Raleigh Masonic Lodge No. 128, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Ainad Temple in East St. Louis. He was born May 7, 1923, in Hickman County Ky. , the son of Bloomer Via and Tishie (Beadles) Via. He married Dorothy Via, March 15, 1947. She preceded him in death April 14, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Leslie (Shorty) and wife, Debbie Via of Marion and Tom Via of Marion; and one daughter, Mrs. Ron (Pamela) Watson of Eldorado; six grandchildren, Shannon and Tina Watson of Eldorado, Brian and Cheryl Watson of Elorado, Gary and Tracey Via of Jackson, Mo. Greg and Marci Via of Alameda, Calif. , Jason Via of Carbondale and Justin Via of Marion; and six great-grandchildren, Alex, Brittany and Emily Watson, Elizabeth, Mary Kate and Ian Via. Mr. Wendell retired from Menard Correctional Center. He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the AFSCME Illinois Retirees Chapter No. 56 in Chester. He was born Saturday, Aug. 19, 1911 in Willisville, the son of Edward U. And Francis (Karwood) Wendell. He married Beulah Mae Johnsey on March 29, 1947, in Perryville, Mo. She died on April 26, 1997. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Carolyn Wendell of Willisville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and George Harris of St. Louis, Norma Jean Wise of Columbia and Della and Marvin Myers of Percy; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters Eunice Buening and Alma McDonald both of Chester. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jack, three grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers.

WOLF LAKE -- Steven Michael Cain, 54, died at 5:52 p. m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 east of Anna. He was born on Sept. 13, 1949, in Tuscola, the son of Clifford Dean and Clara Louise (Peddycourt) Cain. He attended Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna and was a member of the Anna Moose Lodge No. 1346. Steven had a kind heart and was always wanting to do anything he could to help others, will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Cliff and Clara of Wolf Lake; one brother, Phillip Cain of Wolf Lake and his special friend, Marsha Wilson of Cobden; two sisters, Brenda and husband, David Schlenker of Anna and Donna and husband, Tom Morse of Longwood, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Edith married Henry Odell Cox in Murphysboro on Dec. 7, 1936, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1992. Services will be conducted at 11 a. m. Edith was a member of the First Christian Church in Murphysboro, American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 Ladies' Auxiliary, VFW Post 7190 Ladies' Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens, all in Murphysboro. Edith worked at the Ben Franklin Variety Store in Murphysboro for 25 years. She set a great example for all who knew her to follow. She enjoyed life and made the most of each day. She had many great friends of all ages. She loved to fish and play bingo and bunco, and participated in Apple Festival activities. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Alzheimers' Association.
