Dorothy R. Ivanuck
STEELEVILLE -- Dorothy R. Ivanuck, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, in Memorial Hospital in Chester. Services will be at 3 p. m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, with the Rev. Alan W. Janneke and Vicar Dan Wing officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery
in Steeleville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Saturday and from 7:30 a. m. to 1 p. m. Sunday at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, then from 2 to 3 p. m. at the church. The American Legion will hold a special service at 8 p. m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Window Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Mrs. Ivanuck was the executive director of Western Egyptian EOC from 1966 to 2001. She was a World War II veteran of the Marine Corps Woman's Reserve. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville and a member of St. Mark's Priscilla Club and Board of Stewardship, B. B. K American Legion Post No. 480 in Steeleville and the Chester Woman's Club. She was born Monday, May 5, 1923, in Steeleville, to Charles Rade and Emma Castens Rabe. She married Marion A. Ivanuck on Sept. 16, 1950, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Marion A. Ivanuck of Steeleville; and one daughter, Suzanne Carter of Tucker, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Leslie Ivanuck and one brother, Charles Rabe.

Lillie 'Hart' Gibson

in Buckner. Visitation will be after 6 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home. Lillie was a nurse for 35 years before she retired. She was a member of Calvary Bible in West Frankfort, as well as Jolly Jills, the Women's Club, the Red Hats and Eastern Star of Litchfield. She was also a volunteer at the Litchfield Hospital. Lillie also sponsored two foreign exchange students, Anita and Andres Badillo of Quito, Ecuador. She was born on Nov. 15, 1920, in Gary, Ind. , to Raymond and Lillian (Lewis) Overturf. She married Nelson Hart, and he passed away in 1979. She then married Joe Gibson, and he passed away in 1995. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lamon and Fran Hart and Damon and Charlotte Hart, all of Valier; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four siblings, Phyllis Worley of Murphysboro, Raymond and wife Cora Overturf of Christopher; Dimple and husband Gene Eubanks of Mulkeytown; and Rose Hanner of Benton; and one sister-in-law, Beulah Overturf of Christopher. She was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Overturf; one sister, Carmen Overturf; and two brothers-in-law, Roy Hanner and Paul Worley.

She married Ralph Weston on March 26, 1954, in Alorton, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2000. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors include one stepson, Leonard and wife Gwen Weston of Qulin; two stepdaughters, Cathy and husband Chester Carroll of Poplar Bluff and Sharon Weston of Qulin; one brother-in-law, Bill and wife Sharon Weston of Bettendorf, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Sunday, Oct. 17, in Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, with Chester Wisely officiating. Burial will be in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Saturday and from 7:30 a. m. to 1 p. m. Sunday at Wilson's Funeral Home. Mrs. Popejoy was a homemaker. She formerly had the Popejoy Retirement Home in Fairview Heights for 18 years. She was a member of Ava Missionary Baptist Church. She was born on Sept. 11, 1912, in Centralia, to Kasterson and Bessie Ray McCoy. She married Hilra L. Popejoy on Feb. 26, 1930, in Murphysboro. He passed away on Jan. 24, 1972. Survivors include two sisters, Betty Wisely of Murphysboro and Ruth 'Ditty' Williamson of Fairview Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, four brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.

OLMSTED -- Donald E. Crite, 70, died at 8:55 p. m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Crite was born on May, 1, 1934, in Alexander County, the son of the late Cecil Crite and Anata (Wilson) Crite. Mr. Crite was a retired security officer with Burns Security Company in Marion. Mr. Crite was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil Crite Jr. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Crite, Tamms; daughter, Cynthia Crite, Karnak; son, Harold Eugene Crite, Olmsted; stepson Mike Morgan, Olmsted; two other stepsons; and five stepdaughters; four sisters, Priscilla Bolen, Percy, Lorene Butler, East Alton, Irene Watkins, Pekin and Mable Henson, Arnold, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Donald E. Crite will be at 1 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at the Jones Funeral Home, Villa Ridge, with interment following in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens, Villa Ridge. PINCKNEYVILLE -- Bertha Joyce Vickery, 52, died at 8:33 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at home. As per her wishes, Mrs. Vickery's body was donated to Southern Illinois University Medical School for scientific study. Her cremains will be interred in the Mueller Hill Cemetery

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Marshall of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gwen Finnegan of the Lake of Egypt; her grandchildren and their families, Elizabeth Hope and Jon Floyd and son Adam of Henderson, Ky. , Pamela and Bryan McVeigh and son Aidan of Jeffersonville, Penn. , Christopher and Corina Marshall of Seoul, South Korea, and Ryan Finnegan and Kelli Finnegan of the Lake of Egypt; and her nieces and nephews, Bill and Joe Koeneman and Don and MaryAnn Koeneman, all of Chester, Kay and Bob Sobo of O'Fallon, Mo. , Maret and Carlton Hutchinson and Drew of Seattle and Martha Finley of Helena, Mont. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Bruno Koeneman; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. W. W. and E. H. Finley; and one nephew, Michael Finley. Opal graduated from Sparta High School and Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis. She and her husband moved to Marion in December 1945, after World War II. She held positions as a registered nurse at the Marion VA Medical Center, Bi-County Health Department, and retired in 1989 from the Marion Memorial Hospital. Raised as a Presbyterian, she joined St. Joseph Catholic Church in 1954. She was a member of the Marion Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Marion Memorial Hospital Retirees, a charter member of Hearts Helping Hearts, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading, golf and bridge, especially playing at area duplicate bridge clubs. She was a member of Echo Duplicate Bridge Club in Paducah and the American Contract Bridge League.

Stephen Zimmerman
MARION -- Stephen E. Zimmerman, 72, of Marion, passed away at 10:24 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in St. Mary's Hospital of Centralia. Stephen was born in Herrin on Nov. 11, 1931, the son of Harold L. and Opal (Windmiller) Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Marion High School and went on to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He did not complete his degree and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After his period of service to this nation, he was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. Early in his working career after his service in the military, Stephen began working for the Norge Corporation of Herrin for several years. He later received his degree at SIU and began working for the Southern Illinois College of Business and Administration. He remained in this position as a student advisor for the next 27 years until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1999. Stephen had many interests, such as flying, which he did a lot of earlier in his lifetime, along with
hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors, enjoying all that it had to offer. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ of Marion. Some of his other memberships included the National Rifle Association and the Marion Country Club. He is survived by one sister, Donna Jean Smith of Cahokia; one brother, John M. Zimmerman of Country Club Hills; four nieces and nephews, Susan and husband Mark Heaney of Scherville, Ind. , Stephen Ray and wife Becky Zimmerman of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and CathLee Smith and Lance and wife Sandra Kay Smith, all of Belleville; several great-nieces and great-nephews; other family members; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Mike Zimmerman. The time of the visitation for family and friends will be from 1 to 3 p. m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion. The funeral service will then be held at 3 p. m. in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Rucker officiating. ANNA -- Lester H. Simmerman, 84, of Anna, died at 9:20 p. m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born on Sept. 16, 1920, in Union County, the son of Ray and Flora Shepard Simmerman. He married Juanita Starrett on March 28, 1945, in Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of Anna; two brothers, LaVerne Simmerman of Marion and Robert Simmerman of Texas; and his nieces and nephews. Lester was a member of the Anna First Baptist Church and a retired custodian at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. He was a veteran of World War II. Services will be held at 1:30 p. m. today in the Anna City Cemetery, with the Rev. Verlee Eaker officiating. Friends may call after 1:15 p. m. today at the cemetery. She married Wendell Doss on March 6, 1959, in Chicago, and he survives. Dorothy was a lifelong Episcopalian and was a school bus driver in South Holland for 18 years. She liked to work puzzles and crochet. In her younger days, she enjoyed fishing. She was an avid Cubs baseball fan. She is survived by one son, Bobby Doss; one granddaughter, Chavon Doss of Marion, Ky.; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Jack Latoza of Summerfield, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Helen Fletcher of Hampton, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Larry Doss of Whiting, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Blanche Spencer
MURPHYSBORO -- Blanche I. Spencer, 93, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:07 p. m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro. Blanche was born on April 29, 1911, in rural Levan Township, one mile west of Oraville, the daughter of the late Johnny and Stella (Creath) Bastien. She married Everett L. Ruble in 1928, and he preceded her in death. She married Dale K. Spencer, proprietor of the Da-an-nite Tavern, in 1948, and he also preceded her in death. Blanche was employed by the former Brown Shoe Co. in Murphysboro, starting in the 1930s, for 22 years. Blanche later became a beautician and operated her own shop in the basement of her home on Olive Street in Murphysboro. She was a homemaker and was very devoted to her family. Blanche was also a member of First Christian Church in Murphysboro. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Jeff Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Cemetery

MURPHYSBORO -- Amanda 'Mandy' Marie Hausaman, 22, went to be with the Lord at 6:45 p. m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Pettett Funeral Home and burial in Murdale Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p. m. today and Friday until the hour of services at the funeral home. Mandy was born on Oct. 10, 1982. Mandy attended Tri-County School in Murphysboro for 15 years. She was presently enrolled at Progress Port Day Training in Carterville. She also attended S. T. A. R. T. in Murphysboro. Survivors include her mother Carolyn Lee; two brothers, Ben Herring and Amanda Kimmel and John Herring and Stacia Easton; four sisters, Kathy Clover and her husband Gary Clover, Paula Shepard and Mark McKenzie, Mary McIntosh and her husband Danny McIntosh, and Crystal Bodkin; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, all of Murphysboro. She was preceded in death by her grandmother and grandfather Blanche and Benny Wehrheim and her cousin Heather Layton. Mandy gave the gift of life to a few and will be missed by many.

DU QUOIN -- Cyril Howard Stein, 75, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:15 p. m. , Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Cyril was owner of Stein Shoe Service for 37 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was also a life member of the Du Quoin American Legion, VFW and Knights of Columbus. He was a U. S.
Army veteran of the
Korean War. He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Du Quoin, the son of Jacob A. and Bertha K. (Struth) Stein. He is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Stein of Du Quoin and Roberta Jackson of Pinckneyville; two nephews, Jeff Jackson of O'Fallon and Doug and wife Jill Jackson of Coulterville; one niece, Kathy Glass of Du Quoin; and two great nephews, Justin A. Jackson of Du Quoin and Kole O. Jackson of Coulterville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bernard Stein. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a. m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, with Monsignor Harry Jerome officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p. m. today in the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. COULTERVILLE -- Charles G. Perkey, 79, of Coulterville, died at 12:02 a. m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in the Sparta Community Hospital. Charles was born on Jan. 30, 1925, in Royalton, a son to Louis L. and Mary Ellen (McCollum) Perkey. He married Virginia Chamberlain in Chester in 1960. He worked maintenance at Randolph County Housing for 11 years and at Gilster Mary Lee. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Perkey; his ex-wife, Clarita Holcomb; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and LeeAnn Perkey of Waukegan and Kenny and Sandy Perkey of Olive Grove, Miss.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bob Schaaf of Jerseyville and Sharon and Dave Stump and Judy Johnson, all of Gernee; two stepdaughters, Brenda and husband Fred Frederking and Barbara and husband Ron Grafton, all of Coulterville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Earl and Lily Perkey of Tennessee and Virgil Perkey of Florida; one sister-in-law, Thelma Feazel of Coulterville; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and one grandchild. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Michael 'Mickey' Golio
WEST FRANKFORT -- Michael 'Mickey' Golio, 65, of West Frankfort, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at home. He was born on April 21, 1939, in West Frankfort, to Mike Golio and Katherine (Roosas) Golio. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lois Golio of West Frankfort; one uncle, Pete Golio of West Frankfort; one aunt, Emma Campbell of West Frankfort; two nieces, Lori and husband Scott Overstreet of Collierville, Tenn. , and Cathy and husband David Torrisi of Pensacola, Fla.; one nephew, Jack Golio Jr. of Dyersburg, Tenn.; one great-niece, Jordan Overstreet; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mickey served in the U. S. Navy for 20 years and was a chief petty officer. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale with degrees in library science and Russian literature. He was very active in various volunteer work in West Frankfort and his class reunion and was named Mr. Class Reunion of 1957. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Minister Gene Fox officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
