Ellen L. Lee

Ellen L. Lee, 86 of Carmi died Sunday evening January 2, 2000 at the White County Medical Center.

She was born January 4, 1913 near Norris City, the daughter of William Jasper and Eliza Ellen (Freeland) Mossberger.

She was married to Glenard M. Lee on January 22, 1930 and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1999.

Mrs. Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carmi.

She is survived by one son, Gary Lee of Del Mar, California; and one sister, Helen Leikauf of Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Oren, Bill and Kern Mossberger, and one sister Emma Fulkerson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in White County Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday January 5, 2000 at the funeral home.

Edward Gerald Chilton

Edward Gerald Chilton, 83 of Carmi died Tuesday morning January 4, 2000 at the home of his daughter.

He was born June 12, 1916 in Carmi the son of Edward and Zella Chilton.

He was married to Madeline Campbell Trout in July of 1947 and she preceded him in death in December of 1982.

Mr. Chilton had been a member of the Carmi Church of God.

He is survived by four daughters, Ruth Yates of Carmi, Freda Abbey of Herrin, Veda Parker of Carmi, and Roberta Locus of Appaloosa, LA; one son, Gene Trout of Omaha; fifteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; special family Danny and Sarah Yates, and Melissa and Jason Yates.

He was preceded in death by one son, Bill Trout, and four daughters, Sylvia Kramer, Grace Bagley, Marie Trout, and Elizabeth Ann Trout, and one sister, Freda Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in North Maple Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the funeral home.

Paul L. Trefftzs

Paul L. Trefftzs, 65 of Carmi died Saturday evening January 8, 2000 at his residence.

He was born March 13, 1934 in Sparta the son of Howard Lester and Laura Lucille (Wasson) Trefftzs.

He was married to Elizabeth Ann Boyd on August 2, 1958 in Coulterville, and she survives.

Paul purchased the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in 1976, and then purchased the Elledge Funeral Homes in 1989.

He operated both until his retirement in April of 1999.

He was honored this past June for having been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 40 years from the Illinois Funeral Directors Association in Springfield, where he remains a member.

He had served as White County Coroner.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851, and the Carmi American Legion Post #224.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #260 in Mattoon.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Dennis Trefftzs of Carmi; one daughter and son-in-law, Louisa and Fred Blessing of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Rhiannon Mitchell and Laura Mitchell both of Fairfield, and Denny and Devin Trefftzs both of Carmi, and one step-granddaughter, Ashley Blessing of Fairfield; one sister and brother-in-law, Salle and curt Kent of Stillwater, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Robby King officiating.

Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2000 at the funeral home.

Lillie Helen Decker

Lillie Helen Decker, 85, of Carmi died Saturday afternoon, January 15, 2000 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.

She was born April 19, 1914 in Eldorado, the daughter of Robert and Susie (Bishop) Farmer.

She married Reco Mick in 1930 and he preceded her in death in October 1942.

She later married Frank Decker in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1956.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Ruby Allbright, and Pat and Robert Bush of Carmi; three sisters and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Farmer and Nellie Erwin of Carmi, and Ada Mae and Leland Garner, of Woodriver; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Alma Bruce of North Carolina, and Alta Gant of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Farmer and a sister, Mildred Erwin.

Lillie was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2000 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery.

Ora Marie Hancock

Ora Marie Hancock, 94, of Carmi died Saturday evening January 22, 2000 at the Gateway Memorial Hospital in Clarksville, TN.

She was born September 24, 1905 in Carmi, the daughter of Paul C. and Zella Bingman Hubele.

She married John O. Hancock in August of 1929 and he preceded her in death February 7, 1963.

She was a lifetime and very active member of the First Christian Church of Carmi.

She is survived by one son, Bob and Maxine Hancock of Carmi; two daughters, Janet and Larry Large of Clarksville, TN, and Carol Ann and Joe Aud of Mt. Vernon, IL; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Smith of Carmi.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Oscar, Ab, Paul and John Hubele, and one sister Bertha Mecum.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Robby King officiating.

Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

George "Wib" Foley

George Wilburn "Wib" Foley, 86 of Enfield died Sunday morning January 23, 2000 at the Enfield Healthcare Center.

He was born April 17, 1913 in Springerton, the son of William Henry and Rosie Jane (Faith) Foley.

He was married to Mary Jane Rodden on August 4, 1931 in Helena, AR, and she survives.

Mr. Foley had been a body shop man until his retirement in 1975.

He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield.

Also surviving are one son, Billy Foley of Benton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Buck Robertson of Carmi, Mildred and Lawrence Medlin of Enfield, Shirley and Don Smith of Enfield, and Susan and Bruce Pearson of Springfield; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Carol Hames, one granddaughter, three brothers, one sister, three half brothers and three half sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at the Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield with Burial in Kitty Sweeten Cemetery in Springerton.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield and also at the church on Wednesday morning prior to the funeral.

Ruby Louise Pearce

Ruby Louise Pearce, 81, of Carmi, died Sunday morning February 6, 2000 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center.

She was born May 5, 1918 in Emma, the daughter of Fred and Flora Belle (Starkey) Pettijohn.

She had been married to Hayward Pearce and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jean Pettijohn of Carmi, two sisters-in-law, Julia Pettijohn and Mary Pettijohn both of Norris City, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Ted Pettijohn, and three sisters, Reva Joyce, Lorene Bloemker, and Mildred Sutton.

She was a member of the East Side Pentecost Church in Carmi.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Union Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2000 at the funeral home.

Velma N. Lampp

Velma N. Lampp, 85, of Carmi, died Thursday morning February 10, 2000 at White County Skilled Care.

She was born June 6, 1914 in Crossville, the daughter of Oscar and Nora (Brown) Bradshaw.

She was married to Herman Lampp on June 25, 1941 and he preceded her in death on July 29, 1995.

Velma had been a member of Stokes Chapel Methodist Church and had worked at Aisnsbrook as a seamstress for many years.

She is survived by one sister Violet Flemming of Enfield.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in White County Memorial Garden.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Saturday.

Vera W. Morrill

Vera W. Morrill, 84, of Alton, formerly of Carmi, died Tuesday evening February 15, 2000 at the Elder Care Nursing Home in Alton.

She had worked as a seamstress for many years.

She was born February 26, 1915 in White County, the daughter of Ernest and Viola (Thomson) Morrill.

She had been married to Wilbur Howell and he preceded her in death May 20, 1989.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey and Judy Howell of Oceanside, CA, and Kenneth and Deborah Howell of East Alton; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2000 at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi.

Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Thursday or from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.

Marguerite G. Etienne

Marguerite G. Etienne, 84, of Enfield, died Monday evening February 21, 2000 at the Enfield Healthcare Center.

She worked at the sewing factory.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Enfield and the Altar Society.

She was born November 15, 1915 in McLeansboro, the daughter of Lawrence Patrick and Margaret (Coleman) Dolan.

She married Victor Etienne June 21, 1938 in Enfield, and he preceded her in death April 13, 1981.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemarie and Thomas Travers of Aurora, CO, and Ruth Ann and Thomas Repoff of Sprakers, NY; one grandchild, Heather Simmons of Creal Springs; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Aaron Travers; and one sister, Anna Louis Deom of Springerton.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2000 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Enfield, with Burial in the church Cemetery.

Visitations will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield, with rosary recited at 7 p.m.
