Betty Joyce Rogers
Betty Joyce Rogers, 66 of Pocohontas, AK, formerly of Carmi, died Friday morning May 12, 2000 at St. Bernard Regional Hospital in Jonesboro, AK.
She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress at Unique Cleaners and operated her own alteration shop.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She loved music and wrote songs and poems.
She loved to play music and sing with her grandchildren.
She was born July 23, 1933 in White County the daughter of Merle and Hattie (Holderby) McCluskey.
She married Charles J. Rogers May 4, 1949 and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Wayne and Debra Rogers of Pocohontas, Richard and Peggy Rogers of Carmi, and Merle and Linda Rogers of Sandoval; one daughter, Karla Sageser of Carmi; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Shirley McCluskey of Albion; one sister, Juanita McKee of Carmi.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James C. Sageser, Jr.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.
Burial will be in White County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 15 at the funeral home.
Betty Marie Reeder
Betty Marie Reeder, 64 of Carmi died Tuesday May 16, 2000 in the emergency room at Cornerstone White County Hospital.
She was born August 17, 1935 in Phillipstown the daughter of William Anderson and Mary Macel (Tolley) Browning.
She was married to Leonard "Gene" Reeder on August 3, 1955 in Carmi and he survives.
Mrs. Reeder was a homemaker and mother, and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Carmi.
She is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Donna Reeder of Ft. Branch, IN; three daughters and son-in-law, Deborah L. Harvey of Carmi, Julie A. Reeder of Centralia, and Kimberly J. and Tim Ward of Dennison; nine grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Barr of Maunie, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Browning of Carmi. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Eugene "Punk" Browning, two sisters, Alene Page and Edna Mae Browning in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday may 18, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in North Maple ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 50-8 p.m. on Wednesday May 17 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes. Association.
Paul E. Hogue
Paul E. Hogue, 70 of Carmi died Sunday morning May 21, 2000 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center.
He was born June 8, 1929 in Godfrey, the son of Angus "Blackie" and Maggie (Gentry) Hogue.
He married Lucille Lorine "Speck" Sexton on January 9, 1949 and she preceded him in death on November 24, 1993.
Mr. Hogue had been a horse trainer and sulky racer and had also done blacksmith work.
He had worked as a truck driver.
His trade in life was as a meat cutter at Kroger and PeeWee Mear's Market.
He had served with the National Guard and was an associate member of the Carmi American Legion.
He was also a member of the Carmi Elks Lodge and the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Hogue, Jr. of Carmi, James and Julie Hogue of Nashville, TN, and Anthony Scott and Karen Hogue of Carmi, seven daughters and sons-in-law, Lucretia Ann and Leon Norman of Cullman, AL, Paula K. and Rocky Palmer of Kansas City, MO, Margaret Elizabeth and Michael Winfrey of Kansas City, MO, Vicky Lynn and Barry Flowers of Maunie, Karla Gay and Bill R. Taylor of Carmi, Sandra Dawn and Steve E. Griffin of Carmi, and Shari Jo and Ed Banks Jr. of Carmi; twenty nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, two brothers, George Alfred Hughes of Roxana and Hirman Joseph Hughes of East Alton; his mother-in-law, Dovie "Jackie" Hamilton of Carmi, and a special companion, Betty Ann Hillyard of Carmi.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 23, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jennifer Lewis officiating.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to services.
Burial will be in Newman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday May 22, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.
Willie Mae Green
Willie Mae Green, 94 of Princeton, IN and formerly of Carmi died Saturday morning May 27, 2000 at the home of her daughter.
She was born June 14, 1905 in Carmi, the daughter of Charles W. and Chloia (Bush) Green.
She married Birdie H. "Cap" Green in May of 1935 in Carmi and he preceded her in death in January of 1966.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Glenn Morris of Princeton, IN and one granddaughter, Julia Sullivan.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker and member of the Mitchell Chapel, A.M.E. in Carmi.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.
Ruby Adelle Sullivan
Ruby Adelle Sullivan, 82 of Carmi died Tuesday morning May 30, 2000 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center.
She was born December 18, 1917 in Webb, Mississippi, the daughter of Floyd and Lillie Mae (Hall) Blaylock.
She was married to Radford Sullivan in 1934 in Webb, MS and he preceded her in death April 5, 1975.
Mrs. Sullivan was a charter member of the World Harvest Christian Center.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Rosemary Sullivan of Crossville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Don Baker and Bonnie and Joe Atkinson, all of Carmi; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Blaylock of Grayville.
She was preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law, Joy Ann and Aaron "Red" Atkinson, two brothers, Thurman and Dwight Blaylock, and two sisters, Estelle Steed and Viona Atchley.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2000 at the World Harvest Christian Center in Carmi with Rev. Greg Baker and Rev. Jim Pellizzer officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the church on Friday.

Chauncey "Chick" W. Young
Chauncey "Chick" W. Young, 83 of Norris City, died Saturday morning June 10, 2000 at his home.
He was born October 30, 1916 in White County, the son of Edward and Mae (Beard) Young.
He was married to Lois Short on October 1, 1944 in Eldorado, and she survives.
He was raised in the South family home from the age of 12.
He was a retired farmer.
He was also a WWII
Army veteran.
He belonged to the Carmi VFW Post #3851 and American Legion Post #224.
He received his 50 year membership pin in 2000 from the VFW.
Also surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Becky Young of Enfield; two grandchildren, Dustin and Cassie Young; members of the South family, Bill South and jack South of Enfield, Frances York of Carmi and Stan South of Johnston City.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Young and three sisters, Mabel Abbey, Irene West and Ruby Allison.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Norris City with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating.
Burial will be in West Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2000 at the funeral home.
Doris A. (Chastain) Smith
Doris Aileen (Chastain) Smith, 84, formerly of Carmi, passed away on June 10, 2000 in Glendale, AZ.
She was born February 5, 1916 at Emma, the daughter of Sam and Emma Chastain.
She married Roy Pavy Smith and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Joan Isbell and Jeanne O'Dell, 1 granddaughter, Debra Newton, 1 grandson, Tim O'Dell, 3 great-granddaughters, Chelcy Sudweeks, Allisen O'Dell and Katelin O'Dell and 2 great-great-grandsons, Alexander and Austin Sudweeks, all from the Phoenix area.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Carl Chastain and 3 sisters, Dorothy Sturm, Lorene Ashley and Minnie Pool.
Funeral services were held at Heritage Funeral Chapel in Peoria, AZ on June 14, 2000.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services at 11:00 a.m. at Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville, IL on Saturday, June 17, 2000.

Wallace Fern "Tom" Egbert, Sr.
Wallace Fern "Tom" Egbert, Sr., 73, of Carmi, died Sunday morning June 11, 2000 at the Health South Tri-State Rehab Center in Evansville.
He was born June 11, 1927, in St. Clair County the son of Leslie and Glena (Uhles) Egbert.
He married Sarah McDaniel on July 4, 1940 in East St. Louis and she survives.
He was retired after 33 years with labor Local 561 of Evansville.
Also surviving are 7 sons and their wives, Wallace (Wally) and Maryann Egbert of Okawville, IL, William (Bill) and Anna Egbert, Charles (Larry) and Brenda Egbert, Mike (Spud) and Kim Egbert, and Edward (Eddie) and Vickie Egbert all of Carmi; 3 daughters and their husbands, Carol and Van Nylor of Hillsboro, IL, Glena & Delbert Kelley of Evansville and Betty Beets of Carmi; 32 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers Richard and Mary Egbert of Millstadt, IL and John P (Jack) and Sharon Egbert of Fairfield, CA, 1 sister Emma Ruth and Leroy Roethemeier of Venice, FL; 2 sisters-in-law Wilma Egbert of French Village, IL and Neome Egbert of Elkhart, IN and 1 lifelong companion, his pug dog "Sugar".
He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.
Burial will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery.

Madge Browning Churchwell
Madge Browning Churchwell, 75 of Carmi died, Thursday afternoon June 29, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville.
She was born June 30, 1924 in Carmi, the daughter of John D. and Ada Belle (Cozart) Williams.
She married Walter Graden Browning in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1966.
She later married Frank A. Churchwell and he also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of Crossroads Bible Church in Norris City.
She is survived by 6 sons and daughters-in-law, Charles & Mary Browning, Donnie & Charlotte Browning, Larry & Peggy Browning, all of Carmi, Joe & Sharon Browning of Grayville, William & Carol Browning of Raden, CA, and Harold & Teresa Browing of Grand Prairie, TX; 2 daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Newman and Erma & Bill Yates of Carmi, 2 step-daughters, Wanda Holland and Pat Atteberry both of Carmi, 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 son, Jimmy Browning and 1 step-son, Frank Allen Churchwell, 1 brother, Orville Miller and 1 step-brother, John Hayes and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2000 at Crossroads Bible Church in Norris City with Brother Leo Hall officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery.
Edna M. Bosley
Edna M. Bosley, 93 of Carmi, died Thursday evening July 6, 2000 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center.
She was born June 2, 1907 in White County, the daughter of John Nelson and Huldah E. (Shaw) Bosley.
Miss Bosley graduated with a teaching degree from Southern Illinois Normal University in Carbondale.
She was a teacher at Jefferson School in Carmi for over 30 years and a longtime member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one nephew, William R. Bosley of Lakeland, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Howard E. and Lora Bosley, and one nephew, Dr. John H. Bosley.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at Kuykendall Cemetery.

Madeline Higginson
Madeline Higginson, 91 of Crossville, died Saturday morning July 15, 2000 at her home.
She was born September 12, 1908 in Burnt Prairie, the daughter of Robert P. and Lorena (Phillips) Wallace.
She first married Frank Simpson and he preceded her in death in 1948.
She later married Halsey Higginson and he preceded her in death in 1971.
Madeline is survived by ten nieces and nephews, Arnold Vaughan of Carmi, Lloyd Vaughan of Burnt Prairie, Melba Fulkerson of Carmi, Barbara Wagner of Springfield, Mary Louise Wagner of Florida, Oren Ray Wallace of Florida, James Wallace of Florida, Virginia Reno of Florida, Donald Wallace of Centralia, and Violet Jones of Carmi; two step-sons, Bill Higginson of Carmi, and Gene Higginson of New Mexico, three step-daughters, Rita Jacobs of Carmi, Helen Kuykendall of Crossville and Anna Ruth Wiggins of Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by an infant child, three brothers, Herman, Oscar and Elmer Wallace, one sister, Mary Vaughan and one step-daughter, Mary Hargrave.
Madeline had worked at Airtex in Fairfield and had been a member of the Salem Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday July 19, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Burnt Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday July 18, 2000 at the funeral home.
Albert E. Jones
Albert E. Jones 83 of Carmi, died Tuesday evening July 18, 2000 at the Marion VA Center.
He was born March 2, 1917 in Lynn, AR, the son of Thomas E. and Bertha (Barbre) Jones.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert P. Reeves Jr., of Houston, TX; 1 grandchild, Robert P. Reeves, III of Houston, TX, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl & Neva Jones of Firth, Idaho and Edward & Jean Jones of Glendale, CA; and longtime companion, Pauline Leonberger of Carmi.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Kenneth Jones, 6 sisters, Helen Ray, Edith Cory, Jessie King, Bonnie McCord, Virginia Bayley, and Nancy Greene; 3 step-brothers Ivan Jones, Alvie Jones, and Elza Jones; and 1 step-sister, Ethel Jones.
Mr. Jones was a retired bus driver with Rapid Transit.
As a U.S.
Army Veteran, he was stationed in the Philippines.
He was also a member of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Centerville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 hour before the service.
Donald W. Youngman
Donald W. Youngman, 82, of Maunie, died Sunday morning, July 23, 2000 at White County Hospital.
He was born December 10, 1917 in Mt. Carmel, the son of Clarence and Mary (Gupton) Youngman.
He married Kathryn Hurst on March 30, 1940 in Morganfield, KY and she survives.
He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Carol & Bill Pollard and Donna Evans, of Maunie; a sister, Lucille Waterman of North Ridge, CA; six grandchildren, William & Donna Pollard, Donnie & Theresa Pollard, Allen Rowe, Michael & Rajeanna Rowe, Christal & Marcus Youngman, all of Maunie, and Rebecca Jones of Herald; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Richard and Howard Youngman, and 2 sisters, Mary Esther Youngman, and an infant sister.
Mr. Youngman was a WWII Navy Veteran.
He was a retired Gravel Pumper with Shine-Aldredge.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday July 26, 2000 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Concord Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday July 25, 2000 at the funeral home.
