Lisa D. Holland

Lisa D. Holland, 45 of Maunie, died early Saturday morning at her residence in Maunie. She was born January 17, 1960 in Carmi, the daughter of Bill and Shirley (Meritt) Heckler. She married Dale Holland on September 24, 1987 in Concord and he survives.

Mrs. Holland was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; her mother, Shirley Harper of Carmi; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Rebecca Phelps of Maunie; four grandchildren, Kortney, Kyndra, Bree & Chalon; and one brother and sister-in-law Rick & Shana Northcott of Carmi. She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marshall Ferry Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Lisa’s name to the benefit which will be held for her at the VFW on February 4.

Don L. Hollerbach

Don L. Hollerbach, age 87 of Carmi died Saturday July 16, 2005 at his home. He was born July 14, 1918 in rural Carmi the son of Louis and Ina (Myers) Hollerbach. He married Faye Stone on February 3, 1978 in Lebanon, MO and she survives

Mr. Hollerbach retired after 40 years in banking. He had worked at White County Bank and finished his career as president and Chairman of the Board of The National Bank of Carmi. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and Marines. He was a life member of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851. Through his years of service to the community Don had been a member of the Rotary, Chamber, Masons, Shrine and the Elks. In his early years he farmed and had a love of horses where he had been active in many saddleclubs.

He is survived by his wife Faye; one son, Rodney Myers of Carmi; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosina and Mike Barbre of Carmi; one granddaughter and her husband, Kayci and Todd Large of Carmi; one sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Roy Aud of Carmi and a nephew Rudy Aud.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday July 19, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery with graveside military rites by the combined veteran units of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851 and American Legion Post #224. Visitation will be from Noon until time of service on Tuesday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home.

Lena Genette Huff

Lena Genette Huff, age 86 of Carmi, died early Tuesday morning, August 30, 2005 at the Enfield Healthcare Center. She was born September 16, 1918 in White county, the daughter of Tine and Edna Mae (Frymire) Emmerson. She married Noble T. Huff on December 6, 1945 in the Methodist Parsonage in Maunie and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2003.

Mrs. Huff was a homemaker. She attended Marshall Ferry General Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol Huff of Carmi; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon Rockett of Carmi, Jeanette Huff of Canton, Ohio, Kay and Ronald Orten of Carmi and Patricia and James Vinson of Hoxie, AR; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Emmerson of Mt. Vernon, IN. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldred and Elmer Emmerson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday September 1, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marshall Ferry Cemetery at Rising Sun. Memorials are suggested to the Enfield Healthcare Center.

Elizabeth Savage Huffer

Elizabeth Savage Huffer, age 94 of Carmi and formerly of Springerton died early Thursday morning January 20, 2005 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.

She was born August 31, 1910 near Springerton, the daughter of Newton and Mary (Miller) Jamerson.

She first married Everett Edward Savage and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1973, she then married Clinton Huffer and he also preceded her in death.

She had been a long time member of the Springerton Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, D. N. Savage of Carmi; and two grandchildren, Monte and Rodney Savage; one great-grandchild, Natalie Savage; two sisters, E.Wave Jamerson and Nauvard Bolyard both of Carmi. She was preceded in death by one son, Joe; one brother, Paul Jamerson and one sister, Clara Barton.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday January 22, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Hammack Cemetery at Springerton. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Hazel James

Hazel James, age 94 of Carmi, died Saturday afternoon December 4, 2004 at the New Harmony Healthcare Center in New Harmony, IN. She was born May 15, 1910 in Enfield, the daughter of Newton and Effie (South) Wright. She had been married to Charles James, she was later married to Rollie Wilson and they both preceded her in death.

Mrs. James retired from Ainsbrooke in Carmi. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Carmi.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leon and Charlotte Yates of Mt. Vernon, IN and Bob Yates of Chillicothe, Ohio; five grandchildren, Rick Yates and family, Debbie Yates and Vicki Cross and husband all of Mt. Vernon, IN, Phil Yates and family and Rebecca Yates all of Chillicothe, Ohio, three step-grandchildren and six great step-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Carter of Bethalto, IL. She was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Wright and one sister, Vivian McDaniels.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday December 7, 2004 at Little Zion Cemetery near Enfield.

Darrel E. Jones

Darrel E. Jones of Grayville died Sunday, March 6, 2005 at the Richland Rehab Center in Olney. He was born May 16, 1919. He married Alma Culiver on July 14, 1965 and she preceded him in death on November 8, 1998.

Mr. Jones served in the military. He had served as Chief of Police in Grayville for 5 years.

Mr. Jones has no immediate survivors.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday March 15, 2005 at the North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating. Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Jones

Grace Jones, age 89 of Carmi, died late Wednesday evening December 29, 2004 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. She was born April 19, 1915 at Centerville, the daughter of Charles E. and Bertha (Stanley) Jones.

Grace was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Centerville. Her family remembers her faithful care for her parents and sister Mary, the special love only an aunt can give and her exemplary work ethic. Before retiring at the age of 70 Grace had varied work experiences. She first worked at the Crate Brown Grocery in Centerville for $2.00 a day. In 1948 she lived in a Carmi boarding house and worked at the Nell Martin Grocery. Later she worked for Dr. Stanley, the Carl Tate Grocery and Krogers. After working at Kisners Pharmacy for 25 years, Grace worked at Ball Matzel Pharmacy and several downtown restaurants. She was a conscientious employee and was proud of her accomplishments.

She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Maxine Jones of Murray, KY and Lewis and Alva Jones of Carmi; nieces and nephews, Sam Stone of Carmi, Donald Stone of New Harmony, IN, Rev. Carl Watkins of Granite City, Mac Watkins of Harrisburg, Tom Gibbons of Mt. Carmel, Donald Hunsinger of Washington, IN, Charles E. Hunsinger of Burnt Prairie, Marilyn Cleveland of Carmi, Frances Nelson of Carmi, Jim Whiting of Tampa, FL, Junie Jones of Bowling Green, KY, Ken Jones of Bowling Green, KY and Arma Raski of Herrin; several grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Nancy Stone, Martha Watkins, Bessie Hunsinger, Maude Whiting and Mary Jones; and a niece, Shannon Sue Gibbons of Mt. Carmel.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday December 31, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Centerville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Helen Louise Kiefer

Helen Louise, age 87 of Carmi died Thursday afternoon March 31, 2005 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born December 11, 1917 in Centerville, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Ethel (Cox) Brown. She had been married to Harold Stokes and Ed Kiefer.

Mrs. Kiefer had been a beautician and cook for many years. She had been a member of BMPW, Ladies Eagles and Moose, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Centerville Community Club and the Primitive Baptist Church at Centerville.

She is survived by five brothers, Charles, Robert, Leroy, Archie and Clarence Brown. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Newcomb, Mae Boyd Burrows, and Melba Adel Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday April 2, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Centerville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Tamara Joy Knight

Tamara Joy Knight, age 57 of Grayville, died at 10 p.m. on Saturday July 2, 2005 at her home. She was born August 21, 1947 in Centralia the daughter of Simeon and Emily (Welch) Pate. She married Vertis D. Knight on July 24, 1973 and he survives.

Tamara worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant providing care to many of the elderly in the community. She was a loving, caring, compassionate daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Vertis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Tara Knight and Jason and Renee’ Knight all of Grayville; one daughter, Emily Knight of Grayville; her father, Simeon Pate, Jr. of Eldorado; five granddaughters, Lexi, Allison, Kodi, Olivia and Macy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and David Ullman of Carbondale and Pandy and Jeff Minor of Eldorado; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Mary Pate of Waldorf, Maryland and Rev. Tim and Becky Pate of Greenville. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emily; her grandparents and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 6, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Donnie Mobley officiating. Burial will be in the Ridge Church Cemetery, west of Grayville. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday July 5, 2005 at the funeral home.

Edrie McElyea

Edrie McElyea, died Tuesday evening, November 23, 2004 at the Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville. She was born

June 30, 1908 in Kennett, MO the daughter of Edd and Nora (Dawson) Collins. She married Charles McElyea and he preceded

her in death on May 12, 1981.

Mrs. McElyear had worked at Ainsbrooke. She was a member of the Carmi Church of God.

She is survived by a son-in-law, Jerry Guffey of Carmi and four grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Othel Wayne McElyea; two daughters, Mary Ruth Ruttman and Nora Ann Guffey; one brother, Lewis Collins and one sister, Mary Gerdes.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday November 27, 2004 at the Carmi Church of God with Burial in Kuykendall Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. The Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Melvin

Mary Louise Melvin, age 91 of Springerton, died Saturday morning May 14, 2005 at the Enfield Healthcare Center. She was born December 6, 1913 in Springerton the daughter of Alfred and Pearl (Seifried) Deom. She married Walter Lyle Melvin May 13, 1933 in Carmi and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1985.

Mrs. Melvin was a homemaker. She worked at the Carmi Hospital for 25 years as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Springerton Christian Church.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, June & Lawrence “Shorty” Dozier of Springerton, Shirley & Wayne Eckles of Enfield, Nena & Larry Dye of Seattle, WA and Martha & Bob Muehlenbein of Enfield; seven grandsons, one granddaughter, thirteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; two half brothers and a sister-in-law, Melvin & Betty York of Carmi and Charles York of Springerton;

two half sisters, Violet Smith of Morganfield, KY and Betty Clark of Carmi; two sisters-in-law, Lena Melvin and Oma Gwaltney of Mill Shoals. She was preceded in death by one brother, Willard Deom, one step-brother, Clayton York; a half sister, Bernadine Phillips, two step sisters, Maxine Oliver and Beulah Gentry.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Springerton Christian Church in Springerton. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield. Burial will be in Hammack Cemetery in Springerton.

David Monroe Muse

David Monroe Muse, 57 of Carmi, lost a long battle with cancer and died Wednesday morning, May 25, 2005 at his home. He was born January 6, 1948 in Olney, IL. He was the son of Dorsey S. and Betty (McNeill) Muse. He married Suzanne Martinek of Brisbane, Australia.

Mr. Muse was an International Marketing Director for Elastec/American Marine, Inc. He was a world traveler, raised in Carmi, who returned home after 25 years in Australia. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carmi. He was a devoted husband, loving father and a cherished son, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Suzanne; a daughter, Bree of Orlando, FL; his mother and step-father, Betty & Archie Brown of Carmi; one brother, Thomas Dorsey Muse of Carmi and a half brother, Kirke Muse of Carmi; step brothers Mike Brown and Gary Brown and step sister Donna (Brown) McCord of Carmi. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Carmi. Visitation will be from 11:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be in White County Memorial Gardens. To donate to the David Muse Medical Fund, please mail donations to the First United Methodist Church in Carmi. The Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille J. Myers

Lucille J. Meyers, age 92 of Carmi, died late Tuesday evening March 15, 2005 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born February 9, 1913 in Galatin County, the daughter of Jesse and Frances Freeman. She married Earl Wertz, then Clarence “Dutch” Myers and they preceded her in death. She married Amos Reed, and he survives.

Mrs. Myers had been a ward clerk at Carmi Township Hospital for 32 years. She was a member of the Carmi First Christian Church. She also belonged to the Carmi VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Amos Reed; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Judith Wertz of Evansville; two grandchildren, Joey Wertz and Sarah Talley and her husband, Roger of Evansville; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Blank and Hallie Wertz. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and her husbands, Earl Wertz and Clarence “Dutch” Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery in Carmi. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Myers name to the First Christian Church in Carmi or to the White County Senior Citizens Center.

Katherenne Nelson

Katherenne Nelson, 100 of Springerton, died Wednesday afternoon, May 11, 2005 at the Enfield Healthcare Center in Enfield. She was born July 6, 1904 in Hoodville (Hamilton County) the daughter of Fredrick and Elizabeth (Blades) Newton. She married Oscar Nelson in 1924 and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker. She was a member of the Springerton Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne Nelson of Enfield, Kenneth Nelson of Springerton; nine grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren; one sister, Emma Foley, of Johnston City, IL; she was preceded in death by one son, Fredrick Nelson; two brothers, Harry and Paul Hood; four sisters, Lois Newby, Marie Nelson, Teresa Oliver and Ruth Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 14, 2005 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield with Burial in Kitty Sweeten Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield.

Patricia Ann Newman

Patricia Ann Newman, age 63 of Grayville, formerly of Carmi, died Saturday afternoon April 9, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. She was born September 11, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, IN the daughter of Walter Graden and Madge K. (Williams) Browning.

She had worked at Wabash Christian Retirement Center for over 20 years and was a member of the New Life Center in Grayville.

She is survived by one son, Charles Newman of Crossville; two daughters, Rebecca Staton of Crossville and Mary Millenbine of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Amber Newman, Jessica Accord, Amanda Newman, Megan Beck, Michael Harris, Elizabeth Browning and Luke Rutledge; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Sharon of Grayville, Charles and Mary, Donnie and Charlotte, Larry and Peggy Browning all of Carmi, William and Carol of CA, Harold and Teresa of TX; one sister and brother-in-law, Erma and Bill Yates of Carmi. She is also survived by eighteen nieces and nephews and eleven great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Browning and Madge Churchwell; three grandchildren, Cindy Dawn Harris, Matthew Newman and Charles Ray Newman; one brother, James Edward and one sister, Mary Browning.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday April 12, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. John Graham officiating. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.

Raymond Orbick

Raymond Orbick, age 83 of Harrisburg, died Wednesday April 13, 2005 at the Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg. He was born December 5, 1921 in Chicago the son of Stanley and Mary Orbick.

Mr. Orbick had been a mail carrier and meat cutter in Chicago for many years. He was a musician, playing the piano and drums.

He is survived by two nephews, Fred Marolewski of Manhattan and Eugene Marolewski of Dyer, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Orbick and two sisters, Eugenia Marolewski and Jennie Szzpankiewicz.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday April 15, 2005 at the Enfield Cemetery. The Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Beth Pollard

Mary Beth Pollard, age 83 of Carmi, died Sunday morning December 12, 2004 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born June 13, 1921 in Maunie the daughter of Fred A. and Rachel (Kimbrel) Mick. She was married to Charles O. Pollard and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1964.

Mrs. Pollard had worked and retired from General Telephone in Chicago and had been a member of the Carmi Church of God.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carol Pollard of Maunie; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Linda Nelson and Judy Williams; three brothers, Fred F., Paul and Arthur Mick; five sisters, Zola Brashier, Betty Williams, Deanie Brown, Alice Thomas and Nettie Elzie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday December 14, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Don Rhein officiating. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.
