Rev. Donald “Don” W. Rhein
Rev. Donald “Don” W. Rhein, 74, of Carmi, died Friday evening May 27, 2005 at his home. He was born December 12, 1930 in Grayville, the son of Benjamin F. and Mary E. (Sigler) Rhein. He married Viola Carter on January 24, 1953 in Lawrenceville and she survives.
Rev. Rhein was a minister in the Church of God for over 45 years. He retired August 20, 2000 from the Carmi Church of God after 15 years of service for the Lord in the community. He was also an accomplished musician and enjoyed spending quality time with his only grandchild, Christian.
In his capacities as a minister of the gospel, he served as the Illinois Church of God State Evangelism Director; he was an Illinois Church of God State Council Member and Evangelism Board Member; and also steered the Illinois Church of God Ministerial Development Board for new ministers. Rev. Rhein also chaired the International Church of God Radio and Television Ministries Board.
He is survived by his wife Viola; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheri & Mark Stevens of Carmi; one grandson, James Christian Rhein Stevens; two sisters, Violet Bulla of Christopher and Vacal Sailer of Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles A. Sigler; and three sisters, Hazel Virginia Sigler, Pearl Watson and Mabel James.
Funeral services will be held at 7p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the Carmi New Beginning Church of God. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville. Contributions may be made to the Carmi New Beginning Church of God Building Fund in his name. The new church was a dream of his for over 20 years, and he did get to see it come to fruition.
Mary Marguerite Roser
Mary Marguerite Roser age 97, of Carmi, died early Saturday morning at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born November 28, 1907 in Maunie, the daughter of George W. and Julia (Robertson) Morgan. She married Raymond B. Roser on September 10, 1927 in Albion and he preceded her in death on April 7, 1999.
Mrs. Roser had worked for many years as a proofreader at the Carmi Times. She was a longtime member of the Maunie Methodist Church where she served as the church pianist.
Mrs. Roser is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Donna Roser of Carmi and Charles and Delia Roser of Ft. Worth, TX; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Grover, Chalon, Dale, Kenneth and Frank Morgan; and four sisters, Eathel Roth, Ethel Stokes, Emma Giltner and Sue Pumphrey.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday December 8, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Bill Fechtig and Wayne Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Maunie Methodist Church or the First United Methodist Church of Carmi.
LORRAINE H. SAUNDERS
Lorraine H. Saunders, a resident of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, and formerly of Carmi, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Southwest Regional Medical Center in Ft. Myers.
She was born August 14, 1914 in Carmi the daughter of Orlando and Oatha “Nibling” Felty.
She is survived by one daughter, Kae Meyer of Cary, North Carolina, a sister, Lena Brashier of Carmi, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra VanLandingham and one brother, Wesley Felty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday February 8, 2005 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi with Rev. Leroy Allison officiating. Burial will be in Bruce Chapel Cemetery near Carmi. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday February 7, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.
Edward Simmons
Edward Simmons age 92, of Maunie, died Sunday, January 2, 2005 at his home.
He was born August 18, 1912 in White County, the son of Charles and Laura Mae (Forrester) Simmons. He married Velma Guthrie Willis and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2000.
Mr. Simmons was a farmer and a truck driver. He served in the U.S.
Army during WWII.
He is survived by several nieces & nephews, Bill & Ruth Simmons of Madison, WI, Jerry & Connie Simmons of Carmi, Joyce James of Carmi, Ferris & Tom Hodgson of Evansville, Milton & Rose Ann Stewart of Sun Prairie, WI, Marty Simmons and Treasa Phillips both of McLeansboro and several great-nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, William, Sam and Charles, and one sister, Jennie Mae Atchley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Carmi V.F.W. and American Legion.
ROBERT F. STALLINGS
Robert F. Stallings, 86, former Enfield resident, died on August 17, 2005, at the Richland Care and Rehab Center in Olney, IL.
. He was born on June 7, 1919, in Enfield, IL, the son of Raney and Clara (Waldo) Stallings.
Mr. Stallings served in the Air Force, was a retired journeyman machinist, and a member of the Enfield Christian Church.
He is survived by his companion, Jane Bryan of Olney, IL; two daughters and sons-in-laws: Frances (Files) and John Davis of Marissa, IL and Susan and Gary Griffith of Fairfield, IL; one brother and sister-in law, Ralph and Wanda Stallings of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Rosella Miller of Enfield, IL; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 19, 2005, at the Enfield Cemetery with Fred Leeds officiating. military rites will be performed by the combined units of the Carmi American Legion and Carmi VFW Posts. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 18, 2005, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Stendeback Family (Elledge) Funeral Home in Enfield, IL.
Memorials may be given to any Hospice of the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.

Gladys M. Straughmatt
Gladys M. Straughmatt, age 83 of Carmi, died Sunday afternoon April 9, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born September 11, 1921 in Duncan, OK the daughter of Floyd E. and Cassie (Cleveland) Smith. She was married to Raymond Robert Straughmatt May 22, 1949 and he preceded her in death on February 13, 1988.
Mrs. Straughmatt was a homemaker and a member of the Our Savior Lutheran church in Carmi.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur D. Garber of Sacramento, CA, Allen Garber of Prescott Valley, AZ, and Jeffrey Garber of Mesa, AZ; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one brother Robert Earl Smith of Montgomery, TX; one sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Gary Barnett of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter Marilee Cafaro, and a brother Floyd Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday April 13, 2005 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carmi with Pastor Jim Kress officiating. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday April 12, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.
Bernita Thompson
Bernita Thompson, age 84 of Fairfield died early Sunday morning February 27, 2005 at the Enfield Healthcare Center in Enfield. She was born September 23, 1920 in Springerton the daughter of Arthur and Biddie (McGehee) Foley. She first married Harold Rankin on September 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1987; she then married Dorsey Thompson on July 6, 1988 and he survives.
Mrs. Thompson had worked at Airtex for many years and was a member of the Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Dorsey; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Foley of Springerton, and Frances Foley of Peoria. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Otis, Cecil, Travis, and Rudolph Foley, one half brother, Joe Gersbacher; and one half sister, Phillipine Palmiter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday March 2, 2005 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield with Burial in Hammack Cemetery at Springerton. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Southern Illinois Hospice.
Theodore Mark Vaupel
Theodore Mark Vaupel, age 45 of Grayville, died Wednesday evening November 10, 2004 in Vermillion County. He was born January 27, 1959 in Carmi the son of Theodore Harold Vaupel and Shirley Ann (Ellis) Kimmel.
Mr. Vaupel had worked as an electrician. He graduated from Grayville High School.
He is survived by his father, Theodore Harold Vaupel of Grayville, his mother, Shirley Ann Kimmel of Florida; one son Theodore Keith Vaupel of Crossville; one brother, Jeffrey Allen Vaupel of Centerville; one sister, Angela Kay Talley of Mount Carmel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Centerville Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Andrew Loren Wagner, Sr.
Andrew Loren Wagner, Sr. 60, of Carmi, died Friday afternoon, January 7, 2005 at the Veterans’ Hospital in Marion. He was born February 5, 1944 in Harrisburg, the son of Andrew “Fritz” and Opal Idella (Reynolds) Wagner.
Mr. Wagner was a Licensed Practical Nurse. He had worked at B&W in Mt. Vernon, IN and Lochheed in Atlanta, GA. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff Wagner of Anchorage, Alaska and Andy & Gidget Wagner of Carmi; one daughter and son-in-law, Pam & Larry Pollard of Carrier Mills; one sister and a brother-in-law, Nora Ann & William Uelman of Carmi; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a nephew, Davy Miller of Carmi; and four special friends, Shirley Hutchison, Steven Andrews, Linda Wright and Chelsea Goodman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Gene Andrew Miller.

Janice E. Wallace
Janice E. Wallace, age 81 of Carmi died Sunday afternoon March 27, 2005, at her home. She was born February 2, 1924, in Manistee, MI the daughter of John and Catherine (Najdowski) Pachesney. She was married to Forrest M. Wallace in 1948 at Carmi and he preceded her in death on February 13, 1986.
She had been employed at the Carmi ASCS office prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church.
Mrs. Wallace is survived by one grandson, Jonathan Thomas of Mt. Vernon, IL; nieces also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Mary Elizabeth Thomas, son Jeffrey Allen Wallace, and grandson Jeffrey Thomas.
A funeral mass for Janice E. Wallace will be Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Polycarp Cemetery.

Troy Walls
Troy Walls of Maunie died Thursday afternoon May 5, 2005 at the Bridgeview Nursing Home in Bridgeview, IL. He was born March 7, 1930 in Carmi the son of Cornelius and Wilma (Walker) Walls.
Mr. Walls had been a farm worker and a U.S.
Army Veteran.
He is survived by one son and one granddaughter. He is also survived by a longtime friend and his family, James Diehl of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Walls.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday May 10, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Sand Hill Cemetery near Carmi.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the combined veteran units of the Carmi V.F.W. and American Legion.
Nancy A. Weasel
Nancy A. Weasel age 80 of Carmi died early Saturday morning February 19, 2005 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. She was born February 28, 1924 in Bordertown, NJ the daughter of Alvin John and Irene (Carty) Inman. She married Kenneth C. Weasel on October 13, 1944 in New Jersey and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1986.
Mrs. Weasel had worked at several grocery stores in Carmi through the years. She had also been a custodian at the Coal mine. She had been a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Ladies Aid of Heralds Prairie and the Tennessee Bend Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son Kenneth R. Weasel of Carmi; two daughters and sons-in-law Betty Rene and Glen Beckham of Mt. Vernon, IL and Susan and Carl Beckham of Commerce, GA; fifteen grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren also survive. Eight nephews survive in New Jersey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Abraham and Joseph Inman and one sister, Geraldine Inman.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday February 21, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Heralds Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services on Monday.
CLIFFORD H. WYATT
Clifford H. Wyatt, age 82, of White Hall, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born Oct. 2, 1922 in White Hall, the son of Roy and Florence E. Baird Wyatt.He married Betsy Ann Schmidt on Nov. 26, 1947, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Carrollton, having recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary and she survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Susan (husband, Anthony) Licata of Highland, Park; Brenda (husband, Donald) Keeling of Springfield; Lisa (husband, Dick) Jones of Roodhouse; one son, Patrick Wyatt of Miami, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles "Tink" Wyatt of Murrayville and John E. Wyatt of Tennessee; and one sister, Norma Dean Wright of Springfield. He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Douglas and William Douglas Wyatt (surviving wife, Eileen of Grundy Center, IA) and two sisters, Elizabeth and Marge.
Mr. Wyatt worked in the White Hall Post Office, starting as a mail carrier before becoming Postmaster. He then worked for the White Hall National Bank until his retirement. He was a WW II veteran and a member of the Flying Tigers Squadron. He served on the North Greene Unit #3 School Board and Greene County Housing Board. He was a member of the Greene County Golf Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Carrollton. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where he served on the finance committee.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at the All Saints Catholic Church in White Hall. The family will meet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials are suggested to the Greene County Golf Club. Stendeback Family Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
James Leon Wynn
James Leon Wynn, 67 of Carmi, died Wednesday afternoon, May 11, 2005 at his home. He was born July 8, 1938 in West Frankfort, the son of James Robert and Veneta (Taylor) Wynn. He married Beverly Elvira Stuart on April 7, 1995 in Henderson, KY and she survives.
Mr. Wynn was a Municipal Worker for the City of Carmi before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, his father and step-mother, James Robert and Rosalie Wynn of Crossville; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe and Bobbi A. Wynn of Ridgway; one grandson, Billy Joe Wynn, Jr. of Cape Girardeau, MO; one step-grandson, Derek Catiller of Ridgway; one step-granddaughter, Charity Goebel of Ridgway; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William Robert and Carolyn Wynn of Newton, Thomas Dean and Helen Wynn of Gainesville, TX; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Lee and Curtis Musgraves of Crossville, Mavis June and Albert Maden of Ingram, KY, and Ruth Ann Woodward of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Little Zion Cemetery in Enfield.
Billy F. Youngman
Billy F. Youngman 63, of Maunie, died Tuesday morning December 7, 2004 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. He was born November 26, 1941 in Maunie, the son of Harold and Frances Janell (Jenkins) Youngman. He had been married to Carolyn Kay Anderson.
Mr. Youngman was a truck driver.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Billy F. Youngman and Marcus L. & Linda Renee Youngman, all of Maunie; one daughter, Barbara Ann Youngman of Marion, IL; twelve grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom & Nancy Racine of Crossville; and one sister, Pat and Denny Boone of Michigan; brother-in-law, Dave Aud of Maunie. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James R. Youngman and Jackie Youngman; and two sisters, Janice Burnett and Judy Aud.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marshall Ferry Cemetery at Rising Sun.
Betty L. Hosick
Betty L. Hosick, age 72 of Mill Shoals, died Wednesday morning March 22, 2006, at her home. She was born July 24, 1933, in Pope County, Illinois, the daughter of Josh and Velma (Horney) Anderson and married Ralph Hosick on July 30, 1950, in Sunnyland, IL. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1999.
Mrs. Hosick’s employment included factory work in Huntley, IL, Fairfield Elks cook, and Fairfield Wayfair Care Center housekeeping department. She was a member of the Springerton American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law: Bill Hosick of Jacksonville, FL, Paul and Marion Hosick of Hampshire, IL, and James Hosick of Fairfield, IL; five daughters and sons-in-laws: Velma and Fred Eckleberry of Mill Shoals, IL, Pat and Bob Paddock of McLeansboro, IL, Kathy and James Hoy of Carmi, IL, Nicola and Robert Titzer of Mill Shoals, IL, and Christal and Charles England of Mt. Vernon, IL; one sister, Ruth Bates of Carrier Mills, IL; one sister-in-law, Gail Anderson of Chicago, IL; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and a special friend, Rolla “Pete” Clark of Mill Shoals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Bill Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 1:00 P.M. at the Gospel Assembly Church in Mill Shoals, IL with the Rev. John Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Garrison Cemetery at Wayne City, IL. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Gospel Assembly Church in Mill Shoals. Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi is in charge of the arrangements.
