CREVE COEUR ~ William V. "Vince" Watson, 86, of 304 South Stewart Street, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001 at the Apostolic Christian Restmor, Inc. in Morton.
Born August 8, 1914 in Hindsboro to William Clement and Zoe Eolene Hutchins Watson, he married Martha Hall on June 15, 1932 in Paris, Illinois. She died October 11, 1981 in Peoria. He then married Eleanor M. (Hamilton) Shinall on September 1, 1984 in Creve Coeur. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judy A. L’Heureux of Friendswood, Texas and Nancy B. (Alan) Hersemann of East Peoria; two step-daughters, Sandra M. Quinn of Germantown Hills and Rebecca S. (Patrick) Booth of East Peoria; six grandchildren, Patricia S. (John) Teeter of Chepachet, Rhode Island, Barbara R. (Lance Lundstead) L’Heureux of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Eliza A. (Rex) Trotter of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Marisa L. L’Heureux of Chicago, David A. (Laurel) Hersemann of Clarendon Hills and Rachel L. (Charles) Emken of Spring Grove; four step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson and one sister, M. Eolene Brown of New Orleans, Louisiana.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
He retired in 1975 from Caterpillar, Inc. after more than 30 years of service, last working as an inspector in quality control at Building KK in East Peoria.
He was presently serving as the president of the Creve Coeur Library Board of which he also was a longtime member. He was a member of the Creve Coeur Lions Club. He was a former member of the Creve Coeur Grade School District No. 76 Board of Education. In 1977, he was named the Creve Coeur Man of the Year.
He was a charter member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Creve Coeur, where he served the church as an elder for many years.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at his church. The Rev. Donald G. Zumwalt will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union Cemetery in Hindsboro.

HENRY KAVISIC
(1910~2001)
PEKIN ~ Henry Kavisic, 90, of 600 West Shore Drive, died at 11:11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001 at Amy’s Country Manor in Pekin.
Born October 8, 1910 in Virden to Simon and Mary Korn Kavisic, he married Lois Jean Knieriem on October 17, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa. She died August 20, 1991 in Pekin. His parents, one brother and one sister also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Ann (Edward) Conway of Lockport and Kathie Jean (William) Buselmeier of Pekin; five grandchildren, David C. Mayes, Daniel C. (Victoria) Mayes and Susan K. (Jeff) Lance, all of Pekin, John E. Conway of Lockport and Michael E. Conway of Matua, New Jersey and six great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Illinois College at Jacksonville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. He was a member of the Pi Pi Rho Literary Society.
Mr. Kavisic worked for Corn Products Company from 1943 until retiring in 1974. He began his career at CPC in Pekin and retired more than thirty years later as superintendent of the wet starch area at the north Kansas plant in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of the CPC Pioneer Club.
He also was a member of the Pekin Toastmasters Club and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was a past president of the Peoria Area Accordion Club.
He was a member of the Pekin First Church of God, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2001. The Rev. R. Keith Heberer will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at his church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

VERA B. HIESER

PEKIN ~ Vera B. Hieser, 69, of 1207 South Edgewater Road, Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was formerly of Pekin.
Born December 17, 1931 in Dahinda to Ed and Lola Dawson Shafman, she married Albert R. Hieser on August 5, 1951 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Phillip Hieser of Dexter, Oregon, Keith (Mary Jean) Hieser of California, and Kevin (Loni) Hieser of Pekin; two daughters, Christy (Mike) McCoy of Peoria and Renee (Nick) Armstrong of West Plains, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis Howard of Three Rivers, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents and one sister, Lillian Smith, preceded her in death.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hieser was a member of the United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas and a former member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin. She was also a member of the Turkey Mountain Golf League, the Eagle’s Club, and the Elk’s Ladies, all of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PEKIN—Connie B. Casper, 81, of 1520 El Camino Dr., died at 8:15 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2001 at Pekin Manor. She was formerly of 1002 Amanda St.
Born December 9, 1919 in Clayton, Georgia, she was a daughter of Robert Frank and Lena May Philyaw Thompson. She married Donald A. Casper on October 17, 1948 in Manchester, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother and several sisters.
Surviving are 5 nieces, Susan (Douglas) Kyle of Pekin, Reba McEldowny of Macon, Georgia, Sharon (Lee) Thurmes of Stillwater, Minnesota, Faye (Welsh) Owens of Burnsville, North Carolina, and Diane (Bill) Griffin of Naperville, Illinois.
Mrs. Casper attended the Congregational United Church of Christ in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Gary Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Further services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2001 at New Liberty Methodist Church in Clarksville, Georgia. Rev. Donald Holbrook will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the New Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery.

PEKIN ~ Anna Margaret "Ann" Johnson, 72, of 444 South Parkway Drive, Apartment 1410, Pekin, died at 7:11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.
Born August 3, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Martin and Catherine Roth Louwers, she married LeRoy Robert Johnson on November 24, 1964 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He died December 26, 1998 in Pekin. One brother (Larry Louwers) and two sisters (Katherine Barrows and Marilyn Machmueller) also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy M. Helmick and Carol J. (J. Clifford "Cliff") Simpkins, both of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Johnson was an office worker at several department stores in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, last working at the Boston Department Store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Graveside services will be at Noon, Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.

MARGARET L. TURNER

PEKIN ~ Margaret Louise Turner, 75, of 2220 State Street, Pekin, died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center. She was formerly of 16 Park Drive in North Pekin.
Born August 13, 1925 in Chicago to Rocco Louis and Edith Ruth Peterson Angarole, she married Clarence Lester "Bud" Turner, Sr. on October 11, 1943 in Chicago. He died September 22, 1981 in North Pekin. She was also preceded in death by one infant son, Clayton L. Turner.
Surviving are one son, Clarence L. "Les" (Carol) Turner, Jr. of Pekin; one daughter, Ruth F. (Ronald) Enlow of Avon, Indiana; two grandchildren, Courtney E. Enlow of Columbus, Ohio and Ryan E. Enlow of Avon, Indiana; one brother, Arthur I. (Grace) Angarole of San Jose, California; one sister, Edith R. (Robert) Kranson of Glendale Heights; five nephews; and one niece.
Mrs. Turner was a member of the Creve Coeur Christian Church. She also was a member of the Creve Coeur American Legion Auxiliary Unit #1234 since 1963, and served as past president.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. John E. Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.

EVELYN CROWELL

PEKIN ~ Evelyn I. "Mom" Crowell, 85, of 2501 Allentown Road, Pekin, died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Hallmark House Nursing Center. She was formerly of 405 Lakeside Avenue, Apt. B in Pekin.
Born December 18, 1915 in Peoria to August and Hilma Sophia Hallstrom Seaburg, she married Clarence David "Pop" Crowell on June 12, 1940 in Peoria. He died August 31, 1986 in Iowa City, Iowa. One brother, Walter Seaburg, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, David L. (Susan) Crowell of Peoria and Dennis J. (Sue) Crowell of Pekin; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Thomas of South Carolina, Robert A. Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia, Melissa L. (Michael) May and Kurt D. Crowell, both of Bartonville, Susan M. Crowell of Canton and Seth B. Crowell of Pekin; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Plack of Peoria.
A graduate of Kingman High School in Peoria, she received her teaching certificate from the Illinois State Normal Teachers College.
She was a schoolteacher in the Peoria area for 50 years, retiring in 1986 from Monroe School District No. 70 in Bartonville. She had previously taught at Greeley School and Peoria Christian. She was a member of the Peoria Area Retired Teachers Association.
She was a piano, organ and voice instructor for many years and served as the area director of the Youth for Christ Club and Chorale in Peoria with her husband.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin, where she served her church as organist and also as the director of the Agape Handbell choir. She also had taught the Maranatha Ladies Sunday school class at her church. She formerly served as the minister of music at Tyng Memorial Church and Grace Presbyterian Church, both in Peoria.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Robert E. MacKay will officiate. There will be no visitation. She arranged to have her body donated to medical science. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

LESTER WERNOWSKY

PEKIN ~ Lester J. "Les" Wernowsky, Sr., 66, of 1807 Victoria Drive in Pekin died at 3:08 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at his residence.
Born April 28, 1935 in Pekin to Lester "Mike" and Adele Marie Jouvenaux Wernowsky, he married Leota F. "Lee" Pierce in Las Vegas. She survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Lester J. (Kathy) Wernowsky, Jr. of Glasford, Frank R. Abbott of Palmdale, California, Alan D. (Marti) Wernowsky, Dennis S. Abbott and Robert W. (Robyn) Wernowsky, all of Pekin; five daughters, Debra "Debbie" (Brad) Anderson, Carol L. (Tim) Borieo, both of Beatty, NV, Denise D. "Dede" Wernowsky of Yuma, Arizona, Deborah M. "Debbie" Luedke of Hatley, Wisconsin and Diane K. (Bob) Nelson of Las Vegas; nineteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Dale E. (Shirley) Schott of Groveland and Donald Schott of Pekin and two half-sisters, Sharon K. (Ronald) Reid and Sandra S. Schott, both of Pekin.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on October 22, 1953 and retired on October 1, 1983 with the rank of Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Since 1981, he has worked in the family owned and operated business, The Bait Place, located at 601 South 2nd Street in Pekin.
He was a member of the Marine Corps. League in Pekin. He was a diehard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed shooting pool and fishing. In earlier years, he enjoyed bowling.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in War Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Pekin, where military graveside rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps.
ROBERT J. COOK
(1957~2001)
Bartonville, Illinois ~ Robert J. "Bob" Cook, 44, of 8132 North 32nd Drive in Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Bartonville, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001 at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix.
He was born March 30, 1957 in Peoria, Illinois to Robert Bailey and Patricia June Sholl Cook.
Surviving are his mother, Patricia J. Cook of Bellevue, Illinois; two brothers, Timothy B. Cook of Colorado Springs, Colorado and John J. Cook of Greeley, Colorado; one niece, Ashley B. Cook of Colorado Springs, Colorado and one nephew, Travis Cook of California.
His father preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Limestone High School in Bartonville.
Mr. Cook was a computer-aided design operator for Thomas Reprographics in Phoenix for many years, last working in September 2000. He formerly worked as a waiter.
He proudly designed the winning logo for the Village of Bartonville at the time of the 200th anniversary in 1976. The logo design appeared on the village police cars for many years.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. Deacon Louis M. Tomlianovich will officiate. Cremation will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria at a later date.

ELSIE M. RAMSEY

Pekin, Illinois ~ Elsie Marie Ramsey, 93, of 1717 Deppert Drive in Pekin, formerly of Union, Missouri, died at 9:51 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
Born September 6, 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri to Albert and Mary Aubenschein Koenig, she married George Ramsey on December 21, 1929 in St. Louis. He died May 29, 2000 in Pekin. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Lorene M. Ramsey of Pekin.
She worked for the Crowder Bookbindery Company in St. Louis for several years. She later worked 11 years as a cook at Union Grade School in Union, Missouri.
She enjoyed cooking; sewing and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed walking.
She was of the United Church of Christ faith.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union. The Rev. David Brune will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight (Friday) at the funeral home in Union. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Union. Local arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
