ANDREW M. CARTER
(1921~2001)

MANITO ~ Andrew Morton Carter, 80, of 13539 North Manito Road, Manito, died at 9 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.

Born April 18, 1921 in Norris to James Thomas and Addie Mae Engle Carter, he married Helen Marie Brown on October 13, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Thomas C. (Judi) Carter of Humble, Texas; two daughters, Connie M. (Clifford) Eldert and Nonie J. (Douglas) Sindle, both of Manito; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece; and four nephews.

His parents, one brother, and two sisters preceded him in death.

A member of Teamsters’ and Chauffeurs’ Union Local 627 in Peoria, he retired in 1981.

He enjoyed fishing and camping.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. David Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin

PENNY SUE ISBELL
(1956~2001)

PEKIN ~ Penny Sue Isbell, 45, of 1121 South Capitol Street, Pekin, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, September 30, 2001 at her residence.

Born July 23, 1956 in Peoria to Harry Lee and Charlene Walker Dixon, she married Carl Eugene Isbell on September 17, 1974 in Pekin. He survives.

Also surviving are her parents of Pekin; four sons, Israel C. Isbell, Jonathon L. Isbell, Joseph W. Isbell, and Samuel P. Isbell, all of Pekin; three sisters, Terry (Dr. Larry) Dowden of El Paso, Patti L. Dixon of Clinton, and Susan K. (Steve) Rakestraw of Pekin; four nephews; and one niece.

Her grandparents preceded her in death.

A 1974 graduate of Pekin Community High School, she was a homemaker and home schooled her children.

Mrs. Isbell was a member of the Pekin Bible Church, where she was the Director of Children’s Ministries for the past 12 years, which included the overseeing of Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, Children’s Camp Ministry, Children’s Church, and the Pioneer Club Ministry. She also was a member of the Home Builder’s Sunday school class and was custodian for the past year of the church. She was a volunteer for Camp Good News in rural Washington for the past 3 years and was a Teen Team co-leader for home schoolers in McLean County for the past 7 years.

She enjoyed making crafts, reading, and bible studies.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2001 at the Pekin Bible Church. The Rev. Richard W. Jones will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery in Smithville.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

BETTY J. O'CONNELL
(1922~2001)

PEKIN ~ Betty Jane O’Connell, 78, of 1012 South 6th Street, Pekin, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, September 30, 2001 at her residence.

Born November 19, 1922 in Pekin to Clyde and Marian U. Ozella Bennett, she married John Daniel "Jack" O’Connell on August 26, 1961 in Pekin. He survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond C. (Betty) Bennett and Walter S. (Wanda) Bennett, both of Pekin; four nephews; three nieces; and twelve grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her parents preceded her in death.

She was a 1940 graduate of Pekin Community High School.

Mrs. O’Connell worked as a bookkeeper at the Peoria Stockyards and at Soldwedel’s Dairy in Pekin for many years. She later worked as a clerk in the Tazewell County Treasurer’s Office for several years.

She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, the Council of Catholic Women, and the Saint Joseph Mission Society.

She enjoyed dancing and cooking.

A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in Pekin.

ROBERT W. HARTNETT
(1921~2001)

PEKIN ~ Robert Walter Hartnett, 79, of 615 West Shore Drive, Pekin, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Pekin Manor.

Born December 8, 1921 in Pekin to George Walter and Anna Johanna Mogga Hartnett, he married Shirley Ann Kessler on December 26, 1954 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Gordon R. (Glennice) Hartnett of Dallas, Texas and Mark A. Hartnett of Pekin; one daughter, Polly J. Austin of Supply, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Cassandra A. Austin of Supply, North Carolina; one sister, Kathryn Cottingham of Pekin; two nephews; and two nieces.

His parents and one infant brother (James M. Hartnett) preceded him in death.

A World War II United States Army veteran, he attained the rank of Corporal. He served from September 7, 1942 to January 13, 1946.

Mr. Hartnett worked at Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 35 years, retiring in 1982 as a fence machine operator.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin and the Schooner’s Group of the church. He also was a member of the Keystone Retirees Club. He was a former Sunday school teacher, usher, church school secretary, and dart ball team member of his church.

He was an avid Chicago Cub’s fan.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. The Rev. Robert A. Scott will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church, 1717 Highwood Avenue, Pekin, Illinois 61554.

DONALD E. LYNCH
(1922~2001)

PEKIN ~ Donald Eugene Lynch, 79, of 1201 South 10th Street, Pekin, died at 5:59 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2001 at Morton Terrace, Ltd. in Morton.

Born July 1, 1922 in Decatur to Edward and Hazel M. Jones Lynch, he married Phyllis Ruth Mayhall on June 10, 1941 in New Albany, Indiana. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Janey R. Joos of Boston, Massachusetts; one son-in-law, Kenneth E. Vogel of Pekin; and four grandchildren, Darci A. (Steve) Burns and Paige D. Vogel, both of Boston, Massachusetts, Darin K. (Stephanie) Joos of Champaign, and Cara J. Joos of Seattle, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Rebecca Jo Vogel on September 15, 2000 in Pekin), and one grandson (Dirk E. Vogel).

A World War II United States Navy veteran, he served from December 17, 1943 to January 21, 1946. He served on the USS San Juan in the Pacific Theatre.

Mr. Lynch was a 60 year member of Steamfitters Local 353 in Peoria, where he worked 28 years for Johnson Service in Peoria.

He enjoyed fishing.

Private graveside services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

FLORENCE DRAHER
(1908~2001)

CREVE COEUR ~ Florence Estella Wyatt Draher, 93, of 500 Centennial Drive, East Peoria, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2001 at ManorCare at Riverview in East Peoria. She was formerly of Creve Coeur and Peoria.

Born July 2, 1908 in Lewistown to John Trafton and Atha Luella Berry Blackaby, she married Thomas Wyatt (Divorced). She later married Rudolph E. Draher. He preceded her in death along with one grandson, one granddaughter, and two brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Ruth V. (Jim) Lierle of Creve Coeur; two sons, Thomas L. (Evelyn) Wyatt of Pekin and James R. (Patsy) Wyatt of Creve Coeur; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Peoria Apron and Towel, next at Toastmaster Bakery in Peoria for 20 years and last at Bower Buick in Peoria for 10 years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Peoria. She was a former member of the Creve Coeur Christian Church and the YOPS Club at Arcadia Presbyterian Church in Peoria.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.

JOHN ANDREWS
(1917~2001)

PEKIN ~ John Carl Andrews, 84, of 418 Fairlane died at 4:18 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2001 at his home.

He was born March 8, 1917 in Peoria to Michael and Duna Andrews. He married Millie M. Bennett on January 13, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandson and one brother.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Harvey Paul Andrews of Pekin, Michael Lee (Denise) Andrews of Morton, and John C. Andrews, Jr. of Bartonville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ann Harms of Trivoli.

Mr. Andrews was employed by Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 33 years, retiring in 1974 as a gauge maker. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was a former member of UAW Local #974.

Cremation will be accorded. There will be no visitation or services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, 311 W. John Gwynn, Jr. Ave., Peoria, IL 61605-2524

MAELEEN RICHARDSON
(1953~2001)

PEKIN ~ Maeleen Marie Richardson, 48, of 2108 Valentine Ave., died at 10 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born September 4, 1953 in Pekin to Leland and Mae Schryver Kiser. She married Jerry Richardson on March 9, 1979 in Pekin.

Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mae Ivey of Pekin; her father and step-mother, Leland (Eleanor) Kiser of Bradenton, Florida; one son, Scott (Kari) Richardson of Pekin; one daughter, Susan Richardson of Pekin; one step-daughter, Sara Richardson of Lafayette, Louisiana; one grandson, Caleb Michael Richardson; and two brothers, Ron (Clara) Kiser of Murphysboro, Illinois and Gary Kiser of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Sheryl Dixon.

Mrs. Richardson received her associate degree in nursing from Illinois Central College in 1978. She worked for OSF Home Care as a private duty licensed practical nurse from 1993 until January of this year.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.

ROBERT SLOTER
(1928~2001)

PEKIN ~ Robert Adam Sloter, 73, of 2224 Crestview Dr. died at 10:10 a.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at his home.

He was born June 5, 1928 in Green Valley to Ben and Alvia Hoerr Sloter. He married Darlene Ann Meisinger on May 23, 1954 in Green Valley. He later married Terry Deona Robinson Wright on June 2, 1973 in Pekin.

He was preceded in death by his first wife on November 21, 1971 in Pekin and 1 brother.

Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Jeff (Molly) Sloter of Peoria and Mike (Kristi) Sloter of Manito; and 4 grandchildren.

Mr. Sloter was employed by Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 41 years, retiring from the utilities department on December 31, 1988. He later worked as a driver for D&W Distributing Company in Peoria and Velde Ford in Pekin.

He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1271, Moose Lodge #916, and William Schaefer American Legion Post #44, all in Pekin. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin, where he had been an usher and served on the stewardship committee. He had been a grade school, junior high, and high school basketball referee from 1951-76. He was an avid bowler and fisherman. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2001 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. Rev. Mark A. Miller and Rev. Glenn R.A. Niemann will officiate. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., tonight (Thursday) at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Medical Center Hospice Services.

MIKE EHRETT
(1907~2001)

PEKIN ~ William “Mike” Ehrett, 94, of 1628 Valle Vista Boulevard, Pekin, died at 7:09 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.

Born August 24, 1907 in Creve Coeur to William and Anna Carter Ehrett, he married Jean C. Jennings on August 22, 1931 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jack W. Ehrett of Pekin; two daughters, Donna J. (Jerry) Eicher of Bloomington and Carol Y. Davis of Peoria; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

His parents, one grandson, one sister, and five brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Ehrett owned and operated Ehrett’s Napa Auto Supply at Anna Eliza and North 5th Streets in Pekin since 1940, where he began working for in 1925.

He was a member for over 50 years of the Automotive Wholesalers of Illinois and a member of the National Automotive Parts Association, Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk Lodge #1271 of Pekin, and Rotary Club of Pekin. He also was a life and 58 year member of Empire Lodge #126 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Pekin, and member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Temple Shrine of Peoria, and Irin Grotto of Pekin.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2001 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Robert A. Scott will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
