SOUTH PEKIN ~ Edna Grace Dickie, 88, of 213 3rd Street, South Pekin, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2001 at her residence.

Born September 4, 1913 in rural Pekin to Adolphus Clyown and Elizabeth Anna Van Dyke Livengood, she married James Robert Dickie on August 3, 1956 in Pekin. He survives.

Also surviving is one son, Dale M. (Sandy) Lohnes of Pekin; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William D. Livengood of Manito; and one sister, Ethel M. Dagit of Macomb.

Her parents, six brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Dickie had worked at the PDQ Laundry in Pekin for several years.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at the Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harbor Light Hospice, 416 St. Mark’s Court, Suite 206, Peoria, Illinois 61602.

RICHARD O. SHELTON
(1937~2001)

PEKIN ~ Richard O. "Dick" Shelton, 63, of 304 State Street, Pekin, died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday November 11, 2001 at his residence.

Born December 6, 1937 in Pekin to Loren and Beulah Graham Shelton, he married Merle E. Hoyle on March 12, 1966 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one step-daughter, Sandra S. "Sandy" (Larry) Wolfe of Pekin; one step-son, Dale A. "Buster" (ViJessa) Oates of Manito; six step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie Porth of Roanoke and Darrell (Irene) Wentzel of San Jose, California; four sisters, Winona Blake of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeane (Max) George of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Sandy Trone of Pekin, and Sharon Braddy of Addieville; and one step-sister, Holly (Jack) Bohlander of Keithsburg.

His parents, one step-grandson, two brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.

He was in the United States Army, where he served in the 101st Airborne.

Mr. Shelton worked as a boiler room operator at Prairie Farms in Peoria for 14 years and later at Pekin Hospital for 5 years.

He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1869 and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916, both in Pekin.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with military honors by the Inter Veterans’ Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

THELMA M. GRAVES
(1922~2001)

PEKIN ~ Thelma M. Graves, 79, of 444 South Parkway Drive, Apartment 405, Pekin, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, November 11, 2001 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center in Pekin.

Born April 15, 1922 in Lincoln to George H. and Ethel Smith McAvin, she married William H. Graves on September 12, 1970 in Pekin. He died June 6, 1975 in Pekin. One brother also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty L. Cooper and Peggy S. Sathoff, both of Pekin, and Susan K. Luft of Boone, Iowa; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary F. Del Rio of Dayton, Ohio.

Mrs. Graves worked as a cook for the Cupboard Restaurant and the Arlington Restaurant, both in Pekin. She also was a representative for Avon Cosmetics.

She attended LaMarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton.

She enjoyed doing crosswords, hook-latch rugs, and knitting.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Claud H. Slate will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

HENRIETTA F. BUCHANAN
(1916~2002)

PEKIN ~Henrietta Freida Buchanan, 85, of 1222 Howard Court died at 5:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at her home.

Born June 27, 1916 in Peoria to Otto and Rickie Herring Krause, she married Howard E. Buchanan on August 2, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her husband on October 20, 1975 in Pekin; 1 brother; and 4 sisters.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Marianne (Martin) Wagner of Peoria and Betty L. (Marty) Ingrassia of Pekin; 2 sons, Larry E. (Sandy) Buchanan of Knoxville, Tennessee and Thomas L. (Rose) Buchanan of Pekin; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Sophie White and Bertha Fauser, both of Peoria.

A homemaker, Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 at her church. Rev. Rodger P. Abatie will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin.

DOROTHY M. STRUBHAR
(1910~2002)

PEKIN ~ Dorothy Matilda Strubhar, 92, of 444 South Parkway Drive, Apt. 1006, Pekin, died at 2:17 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002 in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital. She was formerly of 1013 South 13th Street in Pekin.

Born January 18, 1910 in Browning to Walter and Lily May Crafton Phillips, she married Clarence "Jerry" Strubhar on October 10, 1926 in Pekin.

Surviving are one son, Roland K. "Rollie Keith" Strubhar of Pekin; one daughter, Lucille R. Benson of Peoria; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Two brothers (George Phillips and Clarence "Smokey" Crafton) preceded her in death.

She worked for the American Distilling Company in Pekin for 40 years on the bottling line, retiring February 28, 1974.

She was a 60-year member of the Pekin Bible Church, where she was past president and secretary of the women’s ministries. She also was a member of the Distillery, Wine, and Allied Workers’ International Union, Local #4.

She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, reading, and doing crafts.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Richard W. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pekin Bible Church, 2405 Court Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.

VIRGINIA E. MUNDAY-RADER
(1908~2002)

CREVE COEUR ~ Virginia Ella Munday Rader, 94, of 572 Dempsey Street, Creve Coeur, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.

Born March 5, 1908 in DeCova, Kentucky to Frank and Myrtle Artman Wilhelm, she married Everett Camden in January of 1923 in Johnson City. He died in 1927 in Johnson City. She later married Gilbert Munday on March 16, 1929 in Wayne City. He died May 22, 1970 in Peoria. She then married Henry Rader on December 6, 1975 in East Peoria. He died July 24, 1977 in Creve Coeur. One son (Mike Munday on November 24, 2000 in Peoria), one great-great-granddaughter, one brother, and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Frances Munday of Creve Coeur; two sons, Everett (Virginia) Camden of Morton and Jack (Phyllis) Munday of Creve Coeur; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth Frank Wilhelm of Creve Coeur.

She worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 28 years at the Morton Parts Facility, retiring in 1970 as a shipping clerk.

She was a former member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club and the Creve Coeur Women’s Club.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Donald G. Zumwalt will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Illinois, 606 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61614.

CHARLES R. WHITE
(1916~2002)

PEKIN ~ Charles R. White, 86, formerly of Rosenberg Acres, Pekin, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002 at Pekin Manor.

Born February 7, 1916 in Switzerland County, Indiana to Frank and Florrie Cochran White, he married Blanche Krutz on August 27, 1949 in Peoria. She died February 10, 1989 in Pekin. Two step-daughters, one brother, and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving are four sons, Charles (Susan) White of Indianapolis, Indiana, Frank (Pat) White of Morgan Hill, California, John (Pam) White of Pittsboro, Indiana, and William (Naomi) Butler of Georgia; two daughters, Betty (Paul) Byram of Pittsboro, Indiana and Loretta Chasteen of Speedway, Indiana; two step-daughters, Louise Roos of Lincoln and Carol Smith of Texas; fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby White of Cynthiana, Kentucky and John Henry White of Aurora, Indiana; and one sister, Frieda Woodruff of Washington.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Mr. White worked as a machine operator for the Broderick and Bascom Wire Rope Company in Bartonville for 31 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, where he was past president and treasurer of the local chapter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2002 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Krista L. Brockman will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Illinois, 3000 Kelly Lane, Springfield, Illinois 62707.

LOIS M. MATHIS
(1929~2002)

Marquette Heights ~ Lois Margaret Mathis, 72, of 409 Joliet Road, Marquette Heights, died at 2:00 a.m., Friday, March 29, 2002 at her residence.

Born September 30, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Clinton and Easter Tanner Sisk, she married Charles Russell Mathis on July 22, 1947 in Paducah, Kentucky. He died October 31, 1990 in East Peoria. Also preceding her in death was one brother and one sister.

Surviving are three sons, David Russell (Penny) Mathis of North Pekin, Albert Scott Mathis of Marquette Heights and Kim Evan (Rebecca) Mathis of North Liberty, Iowa; two daughters, Jan Ellen (Charles) Randleman and Amy Sue Mathis, both of Pekin; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one brother, Thomas (Shirley) Sisk of Rogers, Arkansas.

Mrs. Mathis was a homemaker and she formerly attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin.

She was a former Girl Scout leader in Marquette Heights. She loved bowling and gardening and she was an avid Cubs fan.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Sean Randleman will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 606 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61614-4831.

DORIS M. TAYLOR
(1929~2002)

PEKIN ~ Doris M. Taylor, 72, of 615 Country Club Lane, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2002 at her residence.

Born October 27, 1929 in Pekin to Cecil W. and Ora Holland Wilcox, she married Eugene W. Taylor on June 26, 1949 in Pekin. He survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Pamela A. Taylor of Pekin, Barbara J. (Terry) Johnston of Charlotte, North Carolina and Marcia J. (Mark) Zelnio of Bloomington, Illinois; four grandchildren, Bryan R. Crum and Megan T. Crum of Charlotte and Kristin N. Zelnio and Bradley J. Zelnio, both of Bloomington and one brother, Dr. Donald (Mary Alice) Wilcox of Phoenix, Arizona.

Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Taylor was a member Chapter GW of the PEO Sisterhood. She also was a member of the Pekin Hospital League. A member of the Pekin Country Club, she was a longtime member of the Ladies Golf League.

She was a former member of the board of directors of the Pekin YWCA and of the United Fund. She also was a former Girl Scout leader and had been active in school organizations.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where the family will receive friends for one hour before the service. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Cremation will be accorded.

DONALD H. BEARDEN
(1919~2002)

PEKIN ~ Donald H. "Red" Bearden, 82, of 1123 Henrietta Street, Pekin, died at 7:18 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2002 at Pekin Hospital.

Born October 22, 1919 in Pekin to Robert Lee and Josephine Woost Bearden, he married Virginia Margaret Gumbel on June 8, 1946 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald Lee (Melody) Bearden of Atlanta, Georgia and A. Michael Bearden of Pekin; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Mildred Vaupel of Calhan, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.

A 1937 graduate of Pekin Community High School, he was a United States Navy World War II veteran.

Mr. Bearden was a letter carrier for the United Sates Postal Service in Pekin for 32 years, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 209 in Pekin.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1315 Court Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.
