EAST PEORIA—Donald Homer Myers, 90, of 1605 Highview Rd. died at 8:10 p.m, Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was formerly of Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born December 16, 1911 in Gary, Indiana to Harry Wilde and Jennie Bell Tolmie Myers. He married Gertrude Viola Johnson on April 13, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She died on November 5, 1957 in Dubuque, Iowa. He then married Florence Maul Carlson on December 28, 1959 in Mountain View, California.
Surviving are his wife of Santa Barbara, California; 2 daughters, Arlene (Gerald) Davis of East Peoria, with whom he made his home, and Judy (Louis) Franciosi of Wood Dale, Illinois; 1 step-daughter, Linda (Steve) Kersh of Peoria; 2 step-sons, Arthur (Jeri) Carlson and Richard Carlson, both of Santa Barbara, California; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Myers was a pharmacist from 1940-75, owning and operating pharmacies in Canton, Galena, Warren, and St. David.
He was a 55 year member of Masonic Lodges in Canton and Warren, Illinois and Sun City, Arizona. He was a member of the Mohammed Temple, Shrine in Peoria and also previously, in Freeport, Illinois. He was formerly a member of the Lions Clubs in Canton and Warren, Illinois.
Cremation has been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

KENNETH MCCLURE
(1932~2002)
PEKIN ~ Kenneth R. McClure, 70, of 18 Florentine Court, died at 5:13 a.m. Thursday, November 28, 2002 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
Born April 2, 1932 in McKenzie, Tennessee to John and Lula Stafford McClure, he married Jean Ray on March 2, 1957 in Corinth, Mississippi. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Vicky J. (Larry) Nelson of Wichita, Kansas and A. Hope (Vince) Udry of Pekin; three granddaughters, Vanessa H. (Josh Mickle) Udry of Champaign, Illinois, Amanda R. (Jake) Sloan of Nashville, Tennessee and Victoria A. Udry of Pekin; two sisters, Maureen Hopper of Atwood, Tennessee and Frances Foster of McKenzie and one brother, Bill McClure of Dickson, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Charles McClure, Gene McClure and Jack McClure.
He was a United States Navy veteran of the
Korean War.
A member of the Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Workers International Union, he worked for many years at Interstate Brands Bakery in Peoria, retiring in 1991. He previously worked as a meatcutter.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4939 in McKenzie.
He was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church near McKenzie.
He was an avid sports fan and was a St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball fan. He was a staunch Democrat.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Lakeside Mausoleum in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.

RUTH E. SCHMICK

BARTONVILLE ~ Ruth Eileen Schmick, 74, of 402 McKinley Avenue in Bartonville, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at her residence.
Born March 12, 1927 in Timber Township, Peoria County, Illinois to Charles A. and Verna Larena Peters Monks, she married Clyde Glenn Schmick on July 9, 1949 in Pekin. He died June 25, 2002 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles V. "Sonny" Monks on February 29, 1996 in Pekin.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis Michael (Vanessa) Schmick of Spring Lake and Glen Allen (Benita) Schmick of Valparaiso, Indiana; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon L. (Janet) Monks of Pekin and two sisters, Carol J. (Bill) Keen of Manito and Lois L. Rynearson of Glasford.
She began work in 1947 for Peoria Packing Company, which in 1952 became Armour Packing Company. She retired from Armour’s in 1967. She then tended bar and waited tables in the Pekin/Peoria area from 1967 until 1989.
She was a member of LaMarsh Baptist Church at Mapleton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Jay Arnold and Rev. Gary Schmick will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.

MARIE E. BROWN

MANITO ~ Marie Elizabeth Brown, 86, of 13169 North Manito Road, rural Manito, died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Pekin Manor.
Born June 25, 1916 in Mendon to Arthur Ray and Edith Zeiger McMullen, she married Lawrence E. Brown on September 28, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Carolyn K. (Bill) Wehner of Pekin; one son, Russell W. "Sonny" (Martha) Brown of Forest City; four grandchildren, Teri K. (Jim) O’Shea of Petaluma, California, Traci (Moe) Bauer of Forest City, Russell "Rusty" (Michelle) Brown and Kimmy (Scott) Bender, both of Manito; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Violet Rose of Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Russell McMullen and Raymond McMullen and one sister, Leona Fish.
A homemaker, Mrs. Brown enjoyed gardening and doing yardwork. She also loved her flowers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. David Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2002 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

AUDREY L. PARKER

CREVE COEUR ~ Audrey Louise Parker, 66, of 414 Rusche Avenue, Creve Coeur, died at 7:41 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2002 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born August 18, 1936 in Peoria to Oscar Dee, Sr. and Elizabeth Louise Huber Parker.
Surviving are four brothers, Richard H. (Joanne) Parker of Bartonville, Oscar D. (Janice) Parker of Creve Coeur, Gerald L. (Sally) Parker of Galena, Missouri, and Leonard W. (Karen) Parker of Lynchburg, Virginia; many nieces and nephews; and her step-mother, Mary Vance of Marquette Heights.
Her parents, one brother (James H. Parker), and one niece (Amy Parker) preceded her in death.
Miss Parker had worked as an attendant at Benson’s Maytag Laundromat in Peoria for several years.
A member of Averyville Baptist Church in East Peoria, she was a former member of the Second Baptist Church in Peoria.
She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2002 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Michael Parker will officiate. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
LOIS J. MORRIS

PEKIN ~ Lois June Morris, 77, of 700 Grandview Avenue, Pekin, died at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Pekin Hospital.
Born June 13, 1925 in Pekin to Oscar Ignatius and Fannie Louise Toel Leitner, she married Frederick R. Morris on August 12, 1950 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, G. Sue (Steve) Redmon of Manito; one son, David W. (Deneen Bowman) Morris of Pekin; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Faye Ann Taylor of Pekin; three nephews; three grandnephews; and four grandnieces.
Her parents and one infant son (Ronald Frederick "Butchie" Morris in January of 1956) preceded her in death.
Mrs. Morris worked on the bottling line at the American Distilling Company in Pekin from 1945 to 1951.

CREVE COEUR, IL—Mary Lena Simmons, 75, of 317 Roberts St. died at 1:33 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born June 20, 1927 in Hampshire, Tennessee to Herbert and Lucille Parker Jones. She married Cecil L. Simmons on May 18, 1945 in Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband on September 16, 1993 in Manchester, Tennessee and 1 son, Michael Simmons.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Louise (Richard) Lenaway and Kimberly (Greg) Peak, both of Creve Coeur and Melissa (Dale) Taapken of Kansas City, Kansas; 4 sons, Wayne (Donna) Simmons of East Peoria, Ronald (Sheri) Simmons and Patrick (Debbie) Simmons, both of Creve Coeur and Dale (Roxanne) Simmons of Manchester, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Norman (Nell) Jones of Sunnyland, Illinois; and 2 sisters, Jean Layne of Manchester, Tennessee and Shirley (John) Mooneyham of Wartrace, Tennessee.
A homemaker, Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Church of Christ in Manchester, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Manchester Funeral Home in Manchester, Tennessee. Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery in Manchester. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2002 at the funeral home.

PEKIN ~ Lula M. Diegel, 93, of 1102 Dell Avenue, Pekin, died at 1:33 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2002 at her home.
Born April 27, 1909 in Delavan to James William, Sr. and Anna W. Fink Flairty, she married Russell Earl Diegel, Sr. on November 2, 1929 in Pekin. He died September 12, 1985 in Pekin. One son (Russell E. Diegel, Jr.), one grandson, four sisters and six brothers also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Bill G. Diegel, Sr. of Pekin; one daughter, Mary Lou (Kenneth) Wyman of Pekin; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harland D. (Beverly) Flairty of Pekin.
Mrs. Diegel cleaned homes for many years. She previously worked for Hiram Walker and Son in Peoria.
She was a member of the South Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pekin.
She enjoyed cooking.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Elder Addison L. Abernathy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

AUGUST H. SILTMAN

GREEN VALLEY—August Herbert Siltman, 80, of 6150 Illinois Route 29 died at 5:03 a.m., Sunday, November 17, 2002 at his residence. He was formerly of 905 Virginia St. in Pekin.
He was born May 18, 1922 in San Jose, IL to Henry and Lydia Eigenbrod Siltman.
Surviving are 1 sister, Lydia (Howard) Bliss of Pekin; 4 nieces; 5 nephews; and a great-niece who cared for him and with whom he made his home, Becky (Jason) Price of Green Valley.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 nephews.
Mr. Siltman attended the National Youth Vocational School in Springfield, Illinois where he studied blue print reading, mechanical drawing, aircraft construction, and cabinet making.
He was a master woodworker for Chuck’s Wood Shop in San Jose for 28 years, retiring in 1984. Previously, he had worked in the Caterpillar, Inc. carpentry shop for 6 years and at Globe Aircraft Company in Lockport.
He was a member of the Chataqua Sportsmen’s Club and had served as an airplane maintenance mechanic with the U.S.
Army Air Corps in the European theatre during World War II.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery in Mason City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the funeral home.

KENNETH DAVIS
(1909 ~ 2001)
PEKIN ~ Kenneth Virgil Davis, 93, of 1825 Highwood Avenue, Pekin, died at 6:48 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002 in the Pekin Hospital Emergency Room.
Born January 13, 1909 in Keytesville, Missouri to Henry and Olive Davis, he married Lorraine Catherine Ripper on July 26, 1947 in Bartonville. She survives.
Also surviving is one nephew, Charles (Margaret) Davis of Houston, Texas.
Four brothers, three sisters and three nieces preceded him in death.
A World War II
Army veteran, he was inducted on July 10, 1941and served with the 5th Signal Company.
Mr. Davis worked at Prudential Insurance Company before serving in the
Army and retired from Caterpillar Credit Union in January 1971.
He was a charter member and a past chapter president of the Pekin Barbershop Chorus. He was a member of the chorus when they were selected as international chorus champions under the direction of James Moses.
He enjoyed singing, gardening, fishing,
Army reunions and traveling.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Maurice C. Lee will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Friday) at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
