PEKIN ~ Ineva Agee, 89, of 1520 El Camino Drive, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Pekin Manor. She was formerly of Creve Coeur.
Born July 11, 1914 in Ashland, Mississippi to Thomas Elijah and Samantha Sills Elliott, she married Virgil R. Agee on January 25, 1930 in Benton County, Mississippi. He died April 14, 1986 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are three daughters, Frances "Fran" (Frank) Houston and Gerry (Jim) Sego, both of Pekin and Laxine "Lexi" (Dale) Montgomery of East Peoria; two sons, James H. (Billie) Agee and William T. (Marilyn) Agee, both of East Peoria; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Louise Bryant of Ripley, Mississippi.
She was a homemaker. She also was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. R. Keith Heberer will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Craft Cemetery in Pekin.

WILLIAM J. MCLEOD
(1926~2003)
PEKIN—William J. "Bill" McLeod, 76, of 2206 Belmont died at 4:38 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at his home.
Born October 14, 1926 in Mulberry, Kansas to William and Mary Jenkins McLeod, he married Ruth Nelson on July 31, 1949 in Pekin.
Surviving are his wife; 1 daughter, Jill (Mike) Gambetti of Pekin; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 1 sister, Elizabeth (Guy) Gillespie of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Richard McLeod on June 19, 1972 in Mundelein, Illinois and Jim McLeod on June 4, 1992 in Peoria; and 2 brothers.
Mr. McLeod was a Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department Deputy from 1971 until retiring in 1991. He was shot in the line of duty and disabled on January 23, 1985. Previously, he had been an Illinois State Policeman from 1954-71 and had worked as a brick mason from 1946-54.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II from 1944-46.
He was a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 and Roy L. King V.F.W. Post 1232, both in Pekin; Pekin Moose Lodge #916; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1271 in Pekin; Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #98; Illinois Police Association; and the Pekin Lodge #29 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
He had received many awards, including: the "Law Enforcement Award" from the Illinois State Police; the "Outstanding Service Award" from the American Legion; and the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association Award for "Performance Above and Beyond the Call of Duty".
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin for over 50 years and also had served as a church usher.
Funeral services will be be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2003 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. Rev. Terry Edele and Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PHYLLIS J. SULLIVAN
(1931~2003)
BARTONVILLE ~ Phyllis J. Sullivan, 72, of 4021 Ricketts Avenue, Apartment 5, Bartonville, died at 9:36 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003 in the emergency room of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was formerly of Canton.
She was born June 13, 1931 in Canton to Leonard Andrew and Mary Lucille White Cluts.
Surviving are two daughters, Dea A. Sullivan of Pekin and Julie K. (Gary) Reneau of Washington; two grandchildren, Cory E. F. Reneau and Hayley M. Reneau, both of Washington; one sister, Donna (Robert) Markley of Avon; three brothers, Leon "Bud" (Nancy) Cluts of Canton; William (Kathy) Cluts of Inverness, Florida, and Glen (Claretta) Cluts of Florida.
Her parents and one son (Edward Kent Sullivan on April 9, 1964) also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sullivan worked for Cub Foods in Peoria for the past 7 years as a cashier, last working Sunday. She previously worked as a caregiver for Dr. H. Worley Kendall in Peoria for 8 years and at Graham Hospital in Canton for 15 years working in the pre-op holding area.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She also was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals baseball fan and University of Illinois Illini basketball fan.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Paul H. Prater will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

MERLE ZAAYENGA

PEKIN ~ Merle E. Zaayenga, 83, of 1608 Nighthawk Court, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 at Pekin Hospital. He formerly resided at 1115 South 8th Street in Pekin.
Born February 7, 1920 in Pekin to Emil and Mae Helen Albee Zaayenga, he married Jean Marie Lawson on February 22, 1946 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jack D. (Norma) Zaayenga and Marty A. (Diane) Zaayenga, both of Pekin; five grandchildren, Dr. Mark D. (Melissa) Zaayenga, Melissa D. (John) Bryant, Melinda D. Zaayenga and Christofer A. Zaayenga, all of Pekin and Jennifer L. (Daniel) Hall of East Peoria; one great-grandson, Tyler Scott Hall and one sister, Blanche (Ray) Dunkel of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Howard Zaayenga; two sisters, Lois DeFrates and Betty Myers and one half-sister, Alice Gill.
He was a World War II
Army veteran, serving from June 30, 1942 to December 29, 1945 in the Pacific Theater.
He retired in 1981 from Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville after 35 years of service, where he last worked as a maintenance foreman in the steel mill. He was a member of the Keystone Goodfellows Club.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.
He enjoyed
hunting and fishing.

PEKIN ~ Marshall Allen Huskisson, infant son of Marcia Ann Snoe and Walter Franklin Huskisson, died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria, where he was born earlier Thursday at 8:45 a.m.
Surviving are his parents of 2227 Stoneybrook in Pekin; one sister, Ashley Nichole Snoe, at home; twin brothers, Paul Joseph Fuller and Patrick Owen Fuller, both at home; paternal grandparents, Walter and Doris Huskisson of Jacksonville, Florida; paternal great-grandparents, Gay and Kay Shaffer of Peoria and his aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
GERALD L. PIRO
(1934~2003)
PEKIN ~ Gerald L. "Jerry" Piro, 69, of 1426 Fisher Street, Pekin, died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at his home.
He was born May 15, 1934 in Mason City to Leo G. and Ruby Marie Berryman Piro.
Surviving are four sons, Norman "Gene" (Marsha) Piro, Gary (Becky) Piro, and David Piro, all of Pekin, and Scott (Judy) Piro of Creve Coeur; four daughters, Donna Piro of Sacramento, California, Miranda (Allen) Bernstein of Tustin, California, Cindy Winget of Pekin, and Millie Piro-Heilman of Streator; twenty grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
A
Korean War Air Force veteran, he served from May 20, 1952 to June 26, 1957.
Mr. Piro worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 21 years, retiring June 1, 1994 from the parts department at the Mapleton plant.
He was of the Catholic faith. The Piro family has made Pekin their home for over 100 years.
An avid pool player, he was a member of the American Pool Players Association. He received Most Valuable Player from the American Pool Players Association twice while playing for the LePub team of Pekin. He had placed 3rd in the City Eight ball Tournament and 2nd in the City Nine ball Tournament. He also received the gold medal in Eight ball play in the State of Illinois Senior Olympics for the years 2001 and 2002 and the silver medal for 2003. He placed 3rd in the United States Nine ball Team event in 1996.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Frank G. Noyes will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the funeral home. Burial will be in War Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.

BETTY F. CLOR
(1925~2003)
PEKIN ~ Betty F. Clor, 77, of 2323 Broadway, Pekin, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center. She was formerly of 1410 Delray Street in Pekin.
Born August 27, 1925 in Belle Plaine, Kansas to William F. and Bessie Mae Goodaile Waddell, she married Albert Jack Clor on February 14, 1947 in Chicago. He died January 10, 1980 in Peoria. Her parents and one brother (Donald Lee Waddell) also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Harry W. "Butch" (Cindy) Clor of Pekin; three grandchildren, Janea K. (Brett) Godby and Erin M. Clor, both of Pekin, and Brandon W. Clor of Jacksonville; and two great-grandchildren.
A 1943 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, she had attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria during the 1980’s.
Mrs. Clor taught and coached swimming for more than 40 years at Pekin Country Club, Sunset Hill Country Club and YWCA, both of Pekin, YMCA of Peoria and Canton, and last for the Pekin Park District.
She was the coordinator of the Share Food Program at the Brookmeadow Apartments in Pekin for several years, up until last year.
She was an active volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was past chairwomen of the Pekin fund drive.
She had been an election judge for Tazewell County at Willow School in Pekin.
She enjoyed ballroom dancing.
She attended Congregation Anshai Emeth in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Curt D. Keller will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2003 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

BARBARA M. "BOOTS" DROCKELMAN

PEKIN—Barbara Marjorie "Boots" Drockelman, 82, of 914 Hamilton St. died at 7:02 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Pekin Hospital.
She was born August 6, 1920 in Chicago to Newton W. and Bertha Moldal Bennett.
She married Sylvester Drockelman on August 10, 1947 in South Pekin.
Surviving are her husband; 1 son, David (Nancy) Drockelman of Pekin; 1 step-son, Gary (Sue) Stroyd of Chester, England; 3 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Jean (Paul) Schleder of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by 1 son, George Hoerr in December 1998 in Pekin; and 1 brother.
Mrs. Drockelman worked as a clerk at the Union Store in downtown Pekin for many years.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin and its Bethlehem Society.
Private services will be held at her church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

URVAN A. UBBEN

PEKIN ~ Urvan A. Ubben, 90, of 1104 Park Avenue, died at 8:16 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at his residence.
Born September 12, 1912 in Pekin to Theodore H. and Ella Veerman Ubben, he married Wilma A. Volk on October 17, 1937 in Green Valley. She died June 15, 2002 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Sarah A. (William) Cole of Peoria and Kathryn M. (John) Ensch of San Diego, California; one son, Joseph W. Ubben of Rockford; eight grandchildren, Alice L. Zorc of Vero Beach, Florida, David A. (Patrice) Cole of Peoria, Elizabeth A. (Paul) Whittaker, Rebecca A. (Keith) Timmons, Christine A. (Christopher) Norton, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Benjamin J. (Jenny) Ubben of Wheaton, Adam J. Ubben of Naperville and Jonathan A. Ubben of Chicago; four great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Sue) Ubben of Dallas, Texas and one sister, Soph Brosmer of South Bend, Indiana.
He attended Bradley University.
He and wife farmed in the Delavan area from 1943 to 1955. He also had worked as a chemist for Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pekin.
He was among the first juvenile diabetics to be treated with insulin, produced by Eli Lilly and Company. He lived more than eighty years as an insulin dependent diabetic. He authored a book titled: "So You're Diabetic - Live With It!".
He built wood furniture and also enjoyed woodcarving.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2003 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Cremation will be accorded. Private Burial of the ashes will be in Sand Prairie Cemetery in rural Green Valley. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
