PAUL E. FRYMAN

PEKIN ~ Paul Enos Fryman, 81, of 1210 Caroline Street, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2004 at his residence.
He was born February 20, 1922 in Mapleton to Lee and Cora Alice Wyer Fryman.
Surviving are three brothers, James M. (Bernadine) Fryman, Thomas J. Fryman and Jack G. (Bonnie) Fryman, all of Pekin; three sisters, Hattie I. Watts of Canton, Helen E. Fryman and Carol J. Fryman, both of Pekin and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lee Roy Fryman and Edward “Buzz” Fryman and three sisters, Bernice E. Sprague, Cora A. Benassi and Betty L. Fryman.
Mr. Fryman had played semi-professional Baseball as catcher and pitcher for the Pekin Moose and Pekin Merchant Baseball teams.
He also had served with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He worked for the American Distilling Company in Pekin for 46 years as an evaporator operator in the feed house and also as a foreman in the barrel house, retiring in 1980 from Midwest Grain Products.
He had attended Bethel Baptist Church in Pekin.
He enjoyed doing yard work and handyman chores.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be 30 minutes before services. The Rev. Steven M. Rowell, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.

JOANNE E. COX
(1936~2004)
MARQUETTE HEIGHTS ~ Joanne Elizabeth Cox, 67, of 101 Frontenac Road, Marquette Heights, died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born March 26, 1936 in Peoria to Perry D. and Bertha Caroline Peterson Rife, she married Omer Montell “Bud” Cox on October 24, 1964 in Peoria. He died January 15, 1997 in Peoria. Two half-brothers and one half-sister also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Perry Arthur Cox and Andrew Howard Cox, both of Marquette Heights; and two grandsons, Jerry Allen Cox and Thomas James “T.J.” Cox, both of Creve Coeur.
Mrs. Cox worked as a sales associate for Bergner’s at the Pekin Mall and later for Famous Barr at the Northwoods Mall in Peoria. She previously worked as a secretary for Georgetown Middle School and Marquette Grade School, both in Marquette Heights and was a librarian at the Marquette Heights Public Library. She also had been an Avon representative.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she was a Stephen Minister. She was a former member of Sweet Adeline’s, Pekin Players, Pekin Civic Chorus, and Artistic Community Theater in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Terry C. Edele and Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel and 30 minutes before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to family to help with funeral expenses.
CLARENCE W. JACOBS
(1921~2004)
PEKIN ~ Clarence Willard Jacobs, 82, of 1520 El Camino Drive, Pekin, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2004 at Pekin Manor. He was formerly of 411 Illinois Street in Pekin.
Born March 12, 1921 in Independence , Missouri to Walter V. and Jessie May Martin Jacobs, he married Maudie Emma Nelson on May 31, 1941 in Peoria. She died May 10, 2001 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two sons, Clarence P. ( Beverly ) Jacobs of Peoria and Edward L. (Sandee) Jacobs of East Peoria; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Verna (Leslie) Conarro of Pekin.
He was a United States
Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Jacobs worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 11 years as a machinist. He then worked for Standard Brands in Pekin for 20 years until its closing. He next worked for the railroad in South Pekin as a switchman and then worked as a sanitation worker for the City of Pekin. He last worked for Pekin Community High School as a custodian at East Campus for several years until his retirement.
He was a former member of the AMVETS.
He enjoyed walking and gardening.
Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

LYNN UNDERWOOD
(1957~2003)
PEKIN ~ Lynn Ann Underwood, 46, of 346 Chestnut Street, Apartment F, Pekin, died at 2:04 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born June 27, 1957 in Peoria, she was the daughter of James Lee Whitehurst. She married Donald Dean Underwood on June 10, 1984 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon Elizabeth Davis of Hutchinson, Kansas and Zella Lynn (Terry) Monks of Pekin; one brother, Randy (Crystel) Whitehurst of Creve Coeur; one nephew, James Paul Whitehurst of Creve Coeur; and one grandnephew, Zion Whitehurst of Creve Coeur.
Her father preceded her in death on October 1, 1994 in Pekin.
Mrs. Underwood worked for Andy’s Diner in Pekin for 13 years as a prep-cook and dishwasher, last working December 4th.
She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Bradley M. Ulick of Spring Lake Missionary Church will officiate. Cremation will follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
PENNY DAY
(1956~2003)
PEKIN ~ Penny Lynette Day, 47, of 309 Arrow Street, died at 10:34 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Pekin Hospital.
Born August 3, 1956 in Pekin to Edward and K. Pauline Finch Pumphrey, she married Richard A. “Rick” Day on September 13, 1975 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Tobbias A. (Melissa) Day of Pekin; two grandchildren, Serenity N. Day and Chase E. Day; one brother, Ed E. (Linda) Pumphrey of Pekin and two sisters, Paula L. (Scott) Armstrong of Pekin and Pam (John) Marsh of East Peoria.
Her parents preceded her in death.
A beautician for more than 30 years, she liked taking care of her family and all of her customer’s hair. She last worked at the Broadway Plaza Salon in Pekin .
Penny enjoyed collecting elephants, fishing trips to Minnesota , bowling, playing Scrabble and spending time with her grandkids. She was a caring person who was loved by all.
Private graveside services will be Wednesday, December 31, 2003 in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Her visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

DR. KENNETH REID

PEKIN ~ Dr. Kenneth L. Reid, 76, of 1515 South 3rd Street, died at 5:36 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Pekin Hospital.
Born November 13, 1927 in Royal Oak , Michigan to Leighton H. and Beulah Greening Reid, he married Creta Bennett. He then married Doris VanNattan. He later married Wilimina M. “Billie” White Antonio on January 17, 1976 in Pekin . She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Leighton V. (Debbie) Reid of Kahoka, Missouri, Brad L. Reid and David K. Reid, both of Pekin; two daughters, Brenda L. (James) Hart of Pekin and Beckie L. Elliott of Topeka; one step-son, Michael D. Antonio of Pekin; one step-daughter, Kristi M. (Mike) Sloter of Manito; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters and his aunt, Bea Doane of Ventura, California.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Louise Reid; one great-grandson, Dyson Bailey and a son-in-law, Greg Elliott.
He was a World War II Marine Corps Veteran.
Dr. Reid was a Registered Physical Therapist for 45 years, first in Chillicothe and then in Pekin, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin.
He enjoyed painting and reading. He loved the outdoors.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PEKIN ~ Patrick Allen Powell, 45, of 359 Caroline St. died at 10:30 p.m. , Thursday, December 25, 2003 at his brother’s home at 1023 Mechanic St.
Born October 30, 1958 in Pekin to Harold Dean and Elizabeth A. Rowland Powell, he married JuLee Hilst Lolling on May 24, 2003 in Pekin .
Surviving are his wife; his mother, Elizabeth Powell of Pekin; 3 daughters, Holly Bong of Pekin, and Sara Grove and Crystal Grove, both of Benton, New Hampshire; 2 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Jerry (Ronda) Powell and Carl (Cathy) Powell, both of Pekin, Lowell (Ruth) Powell of Glasford, and Roger (Brenda) Powell of Douglas, Wyoming; 2 sisters, Nema (Scott) Joesting of Marquette Heights and Mary (Tyler) Lair of South Pekin; 1 half-brother, Danny Powell of Pekin; and 2 half-sisters, Judy Dunn and Annie Block, both of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his father and 2 brothers.
He served in the U.S. Navy in 1976.
He was a hunter, fisherman, wood worker and shade tree mechanic.
He last worked for J&R Well Drilling in Pekin in 2000.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield . The Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide military rites. There is no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

ROY FORBIS

PEKIN ~Roy Freeman Forbis, 91, of 14108 Townline Rd. died at 3:35 p.m. , Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born August 30, 1912 in Hardyville , Kentucky to Charlie and Annie Robertson Forbis, he married Pauline Edwards on August 29, 1932 in Mason City , Illinois .
He was preceded in death by his wife on September 9, 1989; 1 son, Donald Forbis; 2 daughters, Betty Jean Forbis and Donna Mae Whitley; 3 brothers; 3 sisters; 1 half-brother; 2 half-sisters; 1 step-brother and 1 step-sister.
Surviving are 6 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren and 4 half-sisters, Jean Hiser of Hardyville, Kentucky, Goldie Dever of Cave City, Kentucky, Ruth Jewel of Magnolia, Kentucky, and Mae Aeschleman of Peoria.
Mr. Forbis worked for Corn Products Corporation in Pekin for 30 years, retiring in 1975 as a fireman in the boiler house.
Mr. Forbis was a devoted family man and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing. He also was a Harley-Davidson rider.
He was a member of Lighthouse Church of God.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Rev. Keith D. Moore will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery in Mason City .

HELEN McCONNELL

PEKIN ~ Helen Eileen McConnell, 79, of 2220 State Street, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center in Pekin. She was formerly of 906 South Street in Pekin .
Born September 22, 1924 in Pekin to Charles D. and Myrtle Dove Pruvost, she married Frederick Eugene McConnell on September 22, 1946 in Pekin . He died December 4, 2003 in Pekin . She was also preceded in death by one brother (Charles D. Pruvost, Jr.).
Surviving are one son, Donald F. McConnell of Louisiana ; and one granddaughter, Kristy M. (Jeremy) Brantley of Pekin, who helped care for her.
A homemaker, Mrs. McConnell formerly attended LaMarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton.
She enjoyed painting and was a ham radio operator with the call sign KNJ7865.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin .

PEKIN ~ Louis Henry Going, 77, of 1540 El Camino Drive , died at 5:21 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2003 in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital. He was formerly of 1401 North 9th Street , Pekin , Illinois .
Born October 13, 1926 in Parma , Missouri to the Rev. Arthur Ernest and Grace Catherine Smith Going, he married Anna Louise Lang on June 4, 1949 in Lafayette , Indiana . He later married Patricia L. Reemsten Smith on July 11, 1985 in Longboat Key, Florida . She died July 7, 1999 in Pekin . He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert E. Going and Kendall C. Going.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Arthur L. ( Nancy ) Going of St. Paul, Minnesota and Richard L. (Karen) Going of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Lori A (Otis) Hutchinson of Paducah, Kentucky; five grandchildren; one step-grandson, Mark S. (Rachel) Smith of Pekin and one step great-granddaughter.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He attended Valparaiso University and graduated from Purdue University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. In 1949, he received his Master of Science degree in chemical engineering.
He was a chemical engineer with the Proctor & Gamble Company in Cincinnati , Ohio for 35 years, retiring in 1983. While at Proctor & Gamble, he was one of the inventors of Pringles and had patents on 17 other food product inventions.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin , where he served as an usher. He was a former member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Silverton , Ohio , where he was past president of the congregation, a former church treasurer and superintendent of the Sunday school department.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin . The Rev. Mark A. Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel and also 30 minutes before services Saturday at the church. Entombment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
