PEKIN ~ Shirley Tindall, 86, of 2220 State St. died at 4:52 p.m. , Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center. She was formerly of 444 S. Parkway Dr.
Born July 22, 1917 in Pekin to Walter E. and Mary Augusta Grossweiler Link, she married Fred “Fritz” Tindall on July 3, 1954 in Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 30, 1973 in Danville ; and 1 brother.
Surviving are 2 brothers, Walter E. (Marie) Link and Jerry L. (Mary) Link, both of Pekin ; 4 nieces; 3 nephews; and friends who cared for her, Rev. Ralph and Phyllis Sauter of Manito.
Mrs. Tindall had last worked for Soldwedel’s Dairy and previously at the Thomas&Clark Cookie Company, both in Peoria.
She was a member of the McArthur Drive Baptist Church in North Pekin and was also a member of the Lighthouse Missionary Society at First Baptist Church in Manito.
She enjoyed crocheting.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. , Monday, June 7, 2004 at McArthur Drive Baptist in North Pekin . Rev. Dr. Bobby Barnhill will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

PEKIN ~ Nona Bernice Taylor, 69, of 221 Reservoir Road , died at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at her residence.
Born July 1, 1934 in Creve Coeur to Cecil A. and Mary Anna Wamsley Broomfield, she married Louis Charles Taylor on February 20, 1954 in Pekin. He died September 16, 2001 in Peoria.
Surviving are two sons, Charles C. “Chuck” (Julia) Taylor and Clyde L. “Cy” (Debbie) Taylor, both of Pekin ; one daughter, Cindy M. (Scott) Conley of Pekin; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Cecil V. ( Sharon ) Broomfield and Rick (Barb) Shore, both of Pekin and one sister, Betty (Robert) Reed of Pekin.
She was a homemaker.
She was a former member of the William Schaefer American Legion Post 44 Ladies Auxiliary and George M. Maple AMVETS Post 235 Ladies Auxiliary, both in Pekin.
She loved to bowl and enjoyed making crafts. She dearly loved her grandchildren.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

PEKIN , IL -- Guy Boyd Smith, 94, of 1015 S. 14th St. since 2000, died at 4:29 a.m. , Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Pekin Hospital. He was formerly of Bath , Illinois.
Born April 11, 1910 in Burkesville , Kentucky to George Milton and Rosa Lorraine Sharp Smith, he married Thelma William Smith on December 30, 1932 in Littrell , Kentucky.
Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Bobby (Theresa) Smith of Lady Lake, Florida and Jerry Smith of Pekin; 2 daughters, Rosie (Phil) Sexton of Monmouth, Illinois and Connie (Ron) Sutton of Pekin; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, William Hunter Smith of Glasgow, Kentucky and James Howard (Bessie) Smith of Burkesville, Kentucky; and 4 sisters, Ruby Poindexter of Burkesville, Kentucky, Ruth Wright of Canton, Illinois, Grace (Harold) Zito of Easton, Pennsylvania, and Millie (Pete) Hendricks of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter; 5 brothers; and 5 sisters.
Mr. Smith had been a self-employed handyman in Bath , Illinois for many years. Previously, he had worked at a sawmill and in farming.
He was a member of Parkway Christian Church in Pekin.
He enjoyed yard work, gardening, and helping his neighbors.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. , Monday, June 7, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Josh Bennett and Rev. Michael Hopps will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. , Sunday, June 6, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton , Illinois.

RUSSELL W. MALSON

CREVE COEUR ~ Russell William Malson, 92, of 573 Roosevelt, died at 4:06 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.
Born August 4, 1911 in Stonington to William Sanford and Nota A. Mikeworth Malson, he married Martha Elizabeth Buchele on October 1, 1929 in Peoria. She died January 13, 2003 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by one son, Robert A. Malson on December 22, 1997 in McCormick, South Carolina; one grandson; one great-grandson; one brother and one sister.
Surviving are five sons, Donald W. (Judy) Malson of Chillicothe, Gerald E. (Sharon) Malson of Marquette Heights, Richard E. (Carol) Malson of East Peoria, John T. (Kathy) Malson of Germantown Hills and Thomas M. (Shari) Malson of Metamora; twelve grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Mr. Malson retired in 1974 from WABCO in Peoria, where he was a welder for 20 years. He previously worked 11 years for Caterpillar, Inc.
He was a member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur.
His funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. The Rev. Joseph W. Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be two hours before services Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

REV. VICKY L. GIERSCH
(1955~2004)
PEORIA ~ The Rev. Vicky Lynn Giersch, 48, of 2004 North Sheridan Road , died at 4:17 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at her home.
Born September 1, 1955 in Peoria to Lewis Bailey and Margie A. Layne Good, she married Rick Allen Kensinger on August 5, 1972 in Peoria. She later married John Kevin Giersch on May 24, 2003 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Rick A. (Michelle) Kensinger of East Peoria; one daughter, Breanna L. Kensinger of Creve Coeur; two grandsons, Mason L. Kensinger of East Peoria and Blake M. Kensinger of Creve Coeur; two sisters, F. Erlene Stewart of Trivoli and Joetta M. Rhoades of East Peoria; one brother, Barry A. Good of Metamora; one sister-in-law, Sarah Good of Krakow, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews including, Cheryl L. Davis of Richlands, North Carolina, whom she helped raise.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son (David Michael Kensinger on October 16, 1972 in Peoria), one brother (L.B. Good, Jr.), and one niece (Angela Leazenby).
She worked as a secretary for Vonachen Industrial Supply in Peoria from 1993 to 1997. She then was the assistant manager at Stewart’s Family Restaurant in Trivoli for several years. She last worked as the listings coordinator for Coldwell Banker in Peoria on September 29, 2003 , a position she held for two years.
She was a former member of Lighthouse Church in East Peoria , where she was ordained into the ministry in 1990. She was the Youth Pastor and taught the Adult Foundations Class and the Leadership Class at Lighthouse from 1987 to 1993. From 1989 to 1993 she also served as church secretary. From 1995 to 1998 she was the Worship Leader at Prairie View Christian Church in Metamora.
She enjoyed singing, painting, making crafts and writing poetry. She also had an interest in interior decorating.
She was a member of Grace Fellowship Ministries in rural Metamora, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2004. The Rev. Bob Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, and also one hour before services Saturday, both at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

DORIS M. JOHNSON

PEKIN ~ Doris Merriwether Johnson, 77, of 2714 Village Ct. died at 8:37 a.m. , Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at her home.
Born September 7, 1926 in Green City , Missouri to Caswell J. and Esther Merriwether Cordle, she married Roger M. Johnson on March 9, 1947 in Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her husband on October 23, 1993 in Peoria , Arizona ; and 1 sister.
Surviving are 2 sons, Roy ( Sandy ) Johnson and Edward (LuAnn) Johnson, both of Pekin ; 4 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson last worked as a secretary in the JCPenney catalog department at the Pekin Mall. Previously, she had worked for Johnson and Son Implement Company, Sealtest Dairy, and Roszell’s Dairy.
She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Pekin where she had been a Sunday school teacher, and sang both as a soloist and in the church choir.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, painting, and singing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. , Friday, June 4, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Greg Mason will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. , Thursday, June 3, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.

RUTH E. TOWNSEND
(1916~2004)
GREEN VALLEY ~ Ruth E. Townsend, 87, of Green Valley , died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004 at Pekin Manor, where she has resided since May 21st. She was a longtime resident of Green Valley and had resided at Mardell Manor the past 4 years.
Born September 30, 1916 in Watseka to Wayne and Bessie Jones McManus, she married Lawrence W. “Larry” Townsend on August 30, 1935 in Kentland , Indiana. He died November 24, 1984 in Green Valley. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Donald Rollin Smith on March 24, 1978 in Pekin ; three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Daniel J. (Bronie) Townsend of Dunlap; one daughter, Carol Ann (Donald V.) Smith of Pekin; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Helen (Herbert) Myers of Watseka.
She had worked as a labeler for the American Distilling Company in Pekin for many years until its closing.
She was a charter member of the Pekin Riding Club and loved gardening.
She was a former member of the Sheldon Christian Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. David Phillips will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

ALBERT "SKIP" MELDON, JR.
(1953~2004)
PEORIA ~ Albert “Skip” Meldon, Jr., 51, of 3820 North Millbrook Drive , died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, May 31, 2004 at his home. He was formerly of 421 Roberts Street in Creve Coeur.
Born February 9, 1953 in Bridgeport , Connecticut , he was raised by his grandmother and step-grandfather, Ida Ruth and Fred R. Clause. He married Deborah Sue “Debbie” Bault on October 13, 2003 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his step-grandfather, Fred R. Clause of Creve Coeur; two step-daughters, Angela S. (Robert) Neville of Brazil, Indiana and Jennifer E. Wells of Peoria ; one step-son, Bradley E. Wells of Clay City, Indiana; one step-granddaughter, Alexandria S. Neville of Brazil, Indiana; one half-brother, Jack Park of Des Moines, Iowa; two half-sisters, Sandy Christant of Norton, Ohio and Cathy Campbell; and two aunts, Barb Lutton of Michigan and Mary Smith of Morton.
He was preceded in death by one infant child and his grandmother, who helped raise him.
Mr. Meldon began working for Caterpillar, Inc. in 1972 at Mossville and later at East Peoria as a power trucker, last working in 1999.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #974 in East Peoria.
He enjoyed his fish aquarium.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. There will be no services. Cremation will follow the visitation.
JOSEPH F. VIDIC
(1925~2004)
PEKIN ~ Joseph Francis Vidic, 79, of 1520 El Camino Drive , died at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Pekin Hospital. He was formerly of 101 Sycamore.
Born January 2, 1925 in Ottawa to Joseph and Catherine Krizen Vidic, he married Mary Lena Sangalli on November 16, 1946 in Pekin. She died February 26, 1985 .
Surviving are two sons, Mark ( Nancy ) Vidic of Pekin and Steve (Debbie) Vidic of Hilliard, Ohio ; one daughter, JoLeen (Edward) Mabry of Urbana; seven grandchildren and one brother, Tony (Shirley) Vidic of Wilmington, North Carolina.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in 1982, where he worked since 1977. He previously worked as a stereotyper for the Peoria Journal Star from 1957 to 1977.
He was a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post 44 and Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507, both in Pekin. He was a former member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 and the Italian American Club.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
His funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. David Whiteside will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, with the recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin , where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps.

EAST PEORIA ~ Margaret Young, 72, of East Peoria, died at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born July 11, 1931 in Spann, Kentucky to Harrison W. and Clara Lambert Hardwick, she married Isaac Young on April 9, 1948 in Peoria.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Joyce Ann Majors of Morton, Vicki Raylene Benson of Jacksonville, Florida, and Sherry Lynn (Richard) Elsey of Nashville, Tennessee; one son, Jeffrey Allen (Linda) Young of Marquette Heights; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William Lee Hardwick of Pekin and Eliza Porter Hardwick of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by one son, David Randall Young on January 6, 1954 in Peoria ;one brother; and seven sisters.
She was a member of the South Pekin Baptist Church where she had formerly been a Sunday school teacher, a vacation Bible school teacher, a choir member, and president of the Womens Missionary Union.
She was formerly active in the Richland Elementary School PTA in East Peoria.
She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and gardening.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. The Rev. Claude Craig will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin.
