(1959~2004)

PEKIN ~ Roger Dale Vickers, 44, of 1105 North Capitol Street, died at 7:33 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born November 8, 1959 in Athens, Alabama to James Richard and Geraldine May Talley Vickers.

Surviving are his mother, Geraldine “Geri” Pribble of Pekin; his 14-year companion, Connie Jo Havens, with who he made his home with; two daughters, Michelle L. Havens and Wendy J. Havens, both of Pekin; three sisters, Wanda L. (Gary) Daniels of Pekin, Cynthia D. (Rodney) Giddens of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Marsha I. Fritz of Janesville, Wisconsin; four brothers, Steven R. Vickers of Athens, Alabama, and David D. Vickers, Robert L. Pribble, and Kevin T. (Jessy) Pribble, all of Pekin; sixteen nieces and nephews; and six grandnieces and grandnephews.

His father and one nephew (Dody Vickers) preceded him in death.

Mr. Vickers worked out of Laborer’s Local 231 in Pekin for the past 20 years, last working May 14th.

He enjoyed grilling out and was family oriented.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Arthur Talley, Jr. and Rev. David L. Coyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Havens Girl’s fund in care of CEFCU, 3515 Court Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.

DORIS MASTEN
(1917~2004)

PEORIA ~ Doris Jeanette Masten, 86, of 6701 West Plank Road, died at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria. She was formerly of Chicago and Schaumburg .

She was born December 5, 1917 in Bath to Abram Lorenzo “ Lynn ” and Nellie Louisa Oleson Masten.

Surviving are one sister, Norma L. (James) Siebenborn of West Peoria; and several nieces and nephews including, Janet L. (Vince) Hauk of Westminster, Colorado and Jerry A. (Susette) Siebenborn of Fraser, Michigan, who helped care for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Bessie Koch and Lola Masten), and two brothers (Cecil Masten and Delbert Masten).

Miss Masten worked as a reservation agent for United Airlines in Chicago for over 20 years.

Cremation will be accorded. There will be no services or visitation.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

RUTH M. MANN
(1911~2004)

PEKIN ~ Ruth M. Eschmeyer Mann, 92, of 601 Prince Street, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at her home.

Born June 24, 1911 to John B., Jr. and Emma Eller Ertmoed, she married Lewis Adam Eschmeyer on December 25, 1929 in rural Green Valley. He died August 30, 1981 in Seminole, Florida. She later married Charles M. Mann on October 2, 1983 in Largo , Florida. He died March 30, 2000 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by one grandson (Rickey Spain ) and one brother (Arthur Ertmoed).

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley L. Ziebold of Pekin and Norma Jean Spain of Tallahassee , Florida ; one son, Dwayne R. (Shirley) Eschmeyer of Pekin; three grandchildren, Jamie Spain of Tallahassee , Florida , Eric D. Eschmeyer of Pekin, and Anne E. (Peter) Besold of Glen Ellyn; and five great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, Mrs. Mann was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Michael McLeod will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church , 921 Caroline Street , Pekin , Illinois 61554.

WILLIAM A. BAILEY
(1932~2004)

NORTH PEKIN ~ William A. “Bill” Bailey, 71, of 127 State St. died at 12:10 a.m. , Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Pekin Hospital.

Born May 16, 1932 in Jersey , Georgia to Walter Edward and Vandora Frances Bouvier Bailey, he married Alice G. Keeran on June 8, 1956 in Chicago. She died December 5, 1987 in Pekin. He then married Alberta Elderidge Connolly on November 16, 1988 in St. Louis , Missouri.

He was also preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, James E. (Linda) Bailey of Gainesville, Georgia and Kenneth L. (Cindy) Reynolds of Williamsfield, Illinois; 1 step-daughter, Ruth A. (Val) Wheeler of Pekin; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Flora Ruth Brown of Winder, Georgia and Drewilla (“Red”) Schumate of McDonough, Georgia.

Mr. Bailey worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 25 years, retiring as a machine operator at the Mapleton plant in 1990.

He served in Korea with the U.S. Army from 1951-55.

He was a member of the Creve Coeur Church of the Nazarene; Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1232 in Pekin ; and was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2602 in Peoria Heights.

He was involved in professional go-cart racing in the 1950s and 1960s. He enjoyed woodworking and pen and pencil drawing.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Robert Barnard will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. , Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Creve Coeur Church of the Nazarene, 349 Velde St. , Creve Coeur , IL 61611.

ROBERT D. FORNOFF
(1932~2004)

PEKIN ~ Robert Dean Fornoff, 71, of 2 Pioneer Court, died at 10:58 a.m. Sunday, May 9, 2004 in the emergency room of Pekin Hospital.

Born August 23, 1932 in Pekin to Emil Albert and Berniece Lorraine Farrow Fornoff, he married Joyce Kaye Newlun on February 20, 1955 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Berniece L. Vetter of Pekin; one son, Stephen L. (Debra) Fornoff of Washington; one daughter, Diane L. Fornoff of Pekin; three grandsons, Daniel S. Fornoff and Bradley M. Fornoff, both of Washington, and Nicholas R. Fornoff of Pekin; one brother, Billie E. (Patricia) Fornoff of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father in August of 1949 and step-father (Philip G. Vetter on March 3, 1986).

A United States Army veteran of the Korean War, he served from January 22, 1953 to December 14, 1954 . He attained the rank of Private First Class.

Mr. Fornoff worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 42 years, where he was a foreman and retiring on April 1, 1992 from material control in East Peoria. He also worked part-time for Pekin News Agency and Mauries, both in Pekin from 1949 to 1977.

He was a member and trustee of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #916 of Pekin and the United Auto Workers Local 974 Retirees in East Peoria. He was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1271 of Pekin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Mark A. Miller and Rev. Glenn R. A. Niemann will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Children’s Hospital of Illinois at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, 530 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61637 or the Heart of Illinois Down Syndrome Association, 320 East Armstrong Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61603.

HELEN M. CARTER
(1921~2004)

MANITO ~ Helen Marie Carter, 82, of 13539 North Manito Road, died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Pekin Manor.

Born November 3, 1921 in Peoria to Clifford Anderson and Elsie Lucille Lawrence Brown, she married Andrew Morton Carter on October 13, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. He died September 30, 2001 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by one brother (Hubert Brown).

Surviving are one son, Thomas C. (Judi) Carter of Kingwood, Texas; two daughters, Connie M. (Clifford) Eldert and Nonie J. (Douglas) Sindle, both of Manito; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Brown of Manito and Clyde (Shirley) Brown of Okeechobee, Florida; and one sister, Elaine (Rev. David) Martin of Apopka, Florida.

Mrs. Carter worked in the office of Karp’s Department Store in Pekin for several years.

She was a former member of Bethel 55 of Job’s Daughters in Pekin.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and doing yard work.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. David Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

EMMA C. ROSS
(1916~2004)

PEKIN ~ Emma Caroline Ross, 88, of Pekin, died at 7:36 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at her residence.

Born March 14, 1916 in Bessemer, Michigan to John Battista and Adelina Crenna Soffietti, she married Thomas David Ross on September 25, 1936. He died August 21, 1980 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Aldo Soffietti and Joseph Soffietti; one sister, Yolanda Soffietti and one nephew, Alan Soffietti.

Surviving are one sister-in-law, Elsie J. Soffietti of Pekin, who helped care for her; one nephew, Barry L. (Cheryl) Soffietti of Dunlap; two grandnieces, Andrea N. Soffietti of Peoria and Carrie A. Soffietti of Elgin; one grandnephew, Mark A. Soffietti of Pekin; one step-grandniece, Becky E. Dailey of Sydney, Australia; and one step-grandnephew, John D. Dailey of Dunlap.

She was a 1933 graduate of Pekin Community High School.

Mrs. Ross worked for the IBM Corporation in Peoria for 9 ˝ years as a secretary. She then worked for Caterpillar, Inc., where she was an executive secretary for 33 years, retiring July 31, 1981 .

She was a member of the Dirksen Center Guild, Pekin YWCA, Pekin Women’s Club and the Pekin Country Club. She also was a member of the Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences and the Fine Arts Society at Lakeview.

She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin and the Council of Catholic Women.

Her funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. David Whiteside will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

HERMAN G. "COL. MIKE" FAHNDERS
(1922~2004)

PEKIN ~ Herman Gerdes “Col. Mike” Fahnders, 81, of 16649 VFW Road, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004 at Pekin Manor after failing health.

Born November 30, 1922 in Pekin to Fred and Meta Gerdes Fahnders, he married Doris H. Hayden on October 28, 1952 in Delavan.

Surviving are his sister, Mary E. Claton of Pekin; and one niece, Barbara K. Nichols of Pekin.

His parents preceded him in death.

An auctioneer since 1949, he owned and operated Fahnders Auction Center in rural Pekin for many years. He also was a real estate broker since 1957 and operated Fahnders Farm and Home Realty for many years. He farmed for numerous years.

He donated his auctioneering services for many area charities and community sales including the Pekin AMBUC Charity Auction since 1972 and the Mennonite Relief Sale for many years. On October 20, 1998 , he received a Lifetime Achievement Award for life-long contribution to the Pekin AMBUCS and its charity auction.

Mr. Fahnders served as a trustee for Cincinnati Township in Tazewell County from 1967 to 1989 and was currently township supervisor since 1989. He was a former board member of Rankin School in rural Pekin , serving when the school was built April 8, 1956 .

He was a member of the Township Officials of Illinois, Southside Business Association of Pekin, Tazewell County Farm Bureau, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1271 of Pekin, and a 33 year member of the Pekin Masonic Lodge #29, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

He was past president of the Illinois State Auctioneers Association and of Exposition Gardens in Peoria. He was a former board member of the Heart of Illinois Fair for many years. He was a long-time supporter of 4-H.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Tom Cone will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin .

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Pekin, 1101 Veerman Street, Pekin , Illinois 61554 or the Good Shepherd Lutheran School, 333 State Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.

IVA A. MITCHELL
(1915~2004)

PEKIN ~ Iva A. Mitchell, 89 of 2400 North 8th Street, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Lake Manor. She was formerly of Las Vegas , Nevada.

Born January 6, 1915 in Cass Township , Fulton County to William D. and Josephine Monks Irving, she married James A. Mitchell on July 28, 1936 in Bloomington. He died June 25, 1983 in Las Vegas. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Edgar G. Mitchell and James K. Mitchell; two sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are two sons, Richard L. (Patricia) Mitchell of Dunnellon, Florida and Russell D. (Julia) Mitchell of Pekin; one daughter, Susan R. (Dean) Thorne of Mapleton; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Joe Barclay and one half-sister, Bernadine Barclay of Glasford.

A homemaker, Mrs. Mitchell was of the Catholic faith.

There will be no service or visitation. Cremation will be accorded. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

BOBBY L. HENRY
(1931~2004)

PEKIN ~ Bobby Louis “Costy” Henry, 72, of Pekin , died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004 at his residence. He was formerly of Creve Coeur.

Born November 14, 1931 in Waterloo , Iowa to Frederick C. and Edna M. Howard Henry, he married Nina R. Bertino on August 27, 1955 in Farmington. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael N. (Leslie) Henry and Daniel P. Henry, both of Pekin ; three daughters, Kimberly J. (Ray) Schnizlein of North Vernon, Indiana, Pamela R. (Greg) Cihla of Conyers, Georgia and Susan M. (Charles) McCoy of Creve Coeur; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kip Neil Henry.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He worked for Caterpillar, Inc for 37 ˝ years, retiring as a clerk in inventory at Building SS in East Peoria in November of 1986. He was a member of the UAW 974 Retirees.

His passion was golf and he formerly played in the Caterpillar Golf League.

He was a member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur.

His funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. The Rev. Joseph W. Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel, with the recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be one half-hour before services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacre Coeur Catholic Church, 601 Rusche Lane , Creve Coeur , Illinois 61610.

THERESA M. MOUCK
(1941~2004)

PEKIN ~ Theresa Marie Mouck, 62, of 2309 Broadway Road, Apartment 6B3 , died at 2 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2004 at the Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born November 10, 1941 in St. Louis , Missouri to Frank and Betty Hotchkiss Lewandowski, she married Raymond Gerald Mouck on July 2, 1981 in Pekin. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jack Lee Long of Pekin and Fred Braden of Florida ; one daughter, Debbie Osborn of Florida and three grandchildren.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended services at the Pekin Ward.

A housewife, she was a very kind and giving person. She formerly volunteered at Amy’s Country Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pekin. Bishop Shaun Shurtliff will preside. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel and also 30 minutes before services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell County Resource Centers, Inc., 21310 Illinois Route 9, Tremont , Illinois 61568.
