PEKIN ~ Helen Dorothy Althiser, 92, of 935 East Jefferson Street, Morton, formerly of 1304 Morton Street, Pekin, died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
Born January 2, 1912 in Humboldt, Kansas to William and Anna Davis Church, she married Russell Howard Althiser on March 10, 1928 in Ashburn, Missouri. He died May 12, 1982 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by one son (Bernard Russell “Bud” Althiser), two daughters (Ann Lou Freeman and Lillian Lucille Brown), two brothers, and four sisters.
Surviving are one son, William LeRoy (Pat) Althiser of Elmwood; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Henry Church of Pekin.
Mrs. Althiser had worked for Patty Cake Bakery in Pekin, Betty Ann Bakery in Farmington, and later at Larkin’s Bakery in Pekin. She later worked for the American Distilling Company in Pekin.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pekin, and its Maranatha Sunday school class. She also had been a helper with the Happiness Club and was a nursery worker, both at the church. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pekin, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and recreation teacher.
She was a former pitcher of the Robertson Players (now the Pekin Lettes) in Pekin for many years.
She enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Dr. Curt Alexander will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.

LAWRENCE E. BROWN
(1917~2004)
MANITO ~ Lawrence E. “Brownie” Brown, 87, of 13169 North Manito Road, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born July 9, 1917 in Peoria to Clifford A. and Elsie Lucille Lawrence Brown, he married Marie Elizabeth McMullen on September 23, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri. She died November 24, 2002 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Hubert D. Brown and one sister, Helen M. Carter.
Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Kay (Bill) Wehner of Pekin; one son, Russell W. “Sonny” (Martha) Brown of Forest City; four grandchildren, Teri K. (Jim) O’Shea of Petaluma, California, Traci (Moe) Bauer of Forest City, Russell “Rusty” (Michelle) Brown and Kimmy (Scott) Bender, both of Manito; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde Brown of Okeechobee, Florida and one sister, Elaine (Rev. David) Martin of Apoka, Florida.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Brown was a truck driver for Ruan Transport, formerly of North Pekin, for 31 years, retiring February 1, 1983. Following retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Talbott’s Produce in Manito.
He was a retired member of Teamsters and Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria.
A life member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, he loved to fish.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. David Martin, his brother-in-law, will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

RICHARD L. PLUNKETT
(1925~2004)
PEKIN ~ Richard Lyle “Dick” Plunkett, 79, of 1011 Illinois Street, died at 2:34 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.
Born September 10, 1925 in New Windsor, Illinois to Lyle and Jeanette Gummerson Plunkett, he married Joan “Jo” Miller on November 24, 1954 in Pontiac. She survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Karen Sue (Todd) Behrends, Mary Kay (Bart) Hoyle, and Martha Ann Plunkett, all of Pekin, Kathleen Rae “Kathy” Smith of Peoria, and Rachel Jean (Mike) Fowler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Richard Alan Plunkett of Pekin; and eight grandchildren.
His parents, one brother, and one sister preceded him in death.
A United States
Army veteran of World War II, he served from December 16, 1943 to September 27, 1945. He attained the rank of Private First Class. He was a prisoner of war for four months and received the Bronze Star.
He was a 1950 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria.
Mr. Plunkett worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 ˝ years, retiring in September of 1982 as an auditor at the general office in Peoria.
An avid Bradley University Basketball and Chicago Cubs Baseball fan, he also enjoyed reading, golfing 
, and traveling.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Pekin and was a former member of the Sunset Hills Country Club in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Pekin. Pastor Mark Friday will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the services.

LOIS I. STROBLE

GLASFORD—Lois Irene Stroble, 87, of Glasford died at 1:25 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2004 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Born June 3, 1917 in Delavan, Minnesota to Will and Lucy McBride Irvine, she married Clarence E. Stroble on December 18, 1937 in Ames, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 18, 1998 in Glasford; and 2 brothers.
Surviving are 1 daughter, LaVonne (Louis) Garrett of rural Glasford; 2 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Mrs. Stroble was a member of the Glasford United Methodist Church.
She was a 50 year member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Phillipine Chapter #413. She had served as the Grand Representative of Vermont in Illinois and Grand Warder of Illinois.
She had been instrumental in the establishment of the Glasford Senior Citizens Center.
She loved doing craft work.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, November 22, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery in rural Glasford.

ARTHUR L. NEUBAUER
(1924~2004)
CHILLICOTHE ~ Arthur L. Neubauer, 80, of 99 Pinewood Estates, Chillicothe, formerly of 140 Espenscheid Court in Creve Coeur, died at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center in Peoria.
Born August 17, 1924 in Bloomington to Julius Herman and Emma Johana Knoll Neubauer, he married Lucille L. Schimmelpfennig on January 26, 1946 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Arthur H. (Karen) Neubauer of Bath and Ricky H. (Marsha) Neubauer of Chillicothe; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His parents, one grandson, one brother, and three sisters preceded him in death.
A United States
Army veteran of World War II, he attained the rank of Sergeant. He received the Purple Heart and 4 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Mr. Neubauer worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 years, retiring October 1, 1975 as a trucker driver in the transport department at East Peoria.
He served as a senior citizens advisor for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office under former Attorney General Neil Hartigan. He was very active in the Democratic Party for many years.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #974 in East Peoria, where he had served on both the executive board and industrial council, and also had been a trustee, steward, recording secretary, and sergeant of arms. He was the recipient of the Walter Ruther award from the UAW. He was also a member of the National D.A.V., Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chicago, and was past president of the United Auto Workers Local #974 Retirees Club.
He was a member of Saint Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Dwight E. Borden will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded.

DR. DOROTHY J. ADAMS
(1947~2004)
NORTH PEKIN ~ Dorothy J. Adams, Ed.D., 57, of 301 Lincoln Boulevard, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria.
Born October 28, 1947 in Newark, New Jersey to Morris and Irma Mag Jacobson, she married Carl Michael Adams on June 26, 1978 in Wood River. He survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Abigail (Rafael) Cathelineaud of Amberg, Germany, Audrey Adams, Andrea (Phil) Dieckhoff, both of San Diego, California and Amy V. Adams of North Pekin; one son, Luke Jacob Adams of North Pekin; two brothers, Leonard Jacobson of New York and Herbert (TiTi) Jacobson of Washington; one sister, Lana Jacobson of Florida and her mother of Florida.
Her father preceded her in death.
She served as a Lieutenant Commander with the United States Navy during the Vietname War.
She received a bachelor of science degree in 1969 and her doctorate in psychology in 1973, both from the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Adams was a school psychologist at Woodruff High School in Peoria since 1993. She previously was a counselor with the Tazwood Center in Pekin.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
She loved to collect antique jewelry and her travels to visit her children.
Her funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, with the recitation of the Rosary at 4 p.m. Burial will be in War Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Pekin.

CHARLES R. ORRICK
(1916~2004)
PEKIN ~ Charles R. “Chuck” Orrick, 88, of 1009 South Capitol Street in Pekin, died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born January 20, 1916 in Shirley to Thomas James and Gussie Moore Orrick, he married Mary Katherine Babbs on September 12, 1942 in St. Louis. She died April 18, 1999 in Marquette Heights. He also was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter; seven brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas J. (Darlene) Orrick and Lloyd A. (Marilyn) Orrick, both of Pekin; one daughter, Janice Orrick of Peoria; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Wyatt of Heyworth, Ruth (Lyle) Augstine and Francis Fitzgerald, both of Shirley and one brother-in-law, LaRue Nevius of Shirley.
Mr. Orrick was a truck driver for Stahly Cartage Company for 44 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Teamsters and Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria.
He was a former city commissioner for the City of Marquette Heights. He also was a 52 year member of the Heyworth Masonic Lodge #271; a 36 year member of a Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1271 in Pekin.
He was an avid golfer and bowler.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Christine A. Bell will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PEKIN—Esta L. Waggoner, 89, of 103 Fayette St. died at 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Pekin Hospital.
Born January 20, 1915 in Edgewood, Illinois to Walter and Mary Ellen Elizabeth Marion Holler, she married Ollie R. Waggoner on October 20, 1937 in Louisville, Illinois.
Surviving are her husband; 4 sons, Roland Waggoner and Richard (Judy) Waggoner, both of Pekin; Jerry (Joy) Waggoner of Lexington, Missouri, and Donald (Dorothy) Waggoner of San Jose, Illinois; 1 daughter, Shirley (George) Manor of Vero Beach, Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers.

WILLIE D. MADDEN
(1935~2004)
CREVE COEUR ~ Willie Dean Madden, 69, of Creve Coeur, died at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in the emergency room of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born September 18, 1935 in Scottsville, Kentucky to Henry and Anniemay Smalling Madden, he married Carolyn Suzann on January 7, 1965 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Annette L. (Dan) Smithers of Elmwood, Janet S. (Roger) Vetter of Pekin, and Amy M. Madden of Creve Coeur; and ten grandchildren, including Steven D. Madden, who made his home with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Mr. Madden worked for the State of Illinois at the Zeller Zone Center in Peoria as a groundskeeper for over 8 years. He previously worked as a groundskeeper at the Peoria State Hospital in Bartonville, as a construction worker in the Central Illinois area, and later as a laborer for the State of Illinois Highway Department.
He was a member of the State of Illinois Retirement System.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Donald Zumwalt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

ROBERT N. COOPER

PEKIN ~ Robert Nelson Cooper, 82, of 1117 South 3rd Street in Pekin, died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria. He was formerly of Lake Wildwind in rural Metamora.
Born June 4, 1922 in Forest City to Ernest and Claudine Rochester Cooper, he married Dorothy Adaline Cornwell on January 16, 1946 in Pekin. She died December 2, 2002 in rural Metamora. He also was preceded in death by one brother.
Surviving are four daughters, Shirley D. Armstrong and Betty J. Cooper, both of Pekin, Barbara S. (Rick) Pollard of Deer Creek and Roberta K. Evans of Arizona; fifteen grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II
Army veteran.
He was employed by Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 35 years, retiring in 1982 as a bundler in the wire mill. He previously worked for Corn Products Company and as a laborer for Gearld Hall Excavating, both in Pekin.
He was a life member of George M. Maple Memorial AMVETS Post # 235 and Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232, both of Pekin. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1869 in Pekin and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916. He also formerly bowled in the Keystone league at Roxy’s Lanes in Pekin.
He attended First Christian Church in Pekin.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2004 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
