PEKIN ~ Robert Luther Cyree, 90, of 2220 State Street, died at 8 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center. He was formerly of 261 C. Street in Pekin.
Born January 15, 1915 in Coffee County, Tennessee to Robert and Nora Lee Sons Cyree, she married Mildred Southerland on October 14, 1939 in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Surviving are one brother, Walter D. (Lee) Cyree of Crossville, Tennessee; four sisters, Lena Howard and Emma Howard, both of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Jewell (Albert) Snyder of Hazel Green, Alabama, and Geneva (Donald) Bouton of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Mr. Cyree worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 28 years, retiring June 1, 1976 from the assembly line in East Peoria.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 974 Retirees and was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 in Pekin.
He enjoyed dancing.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be 30 minutes before services. Chaplain David Rodden will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.

LLOYD MILLER
(1923 ~ 2005)
PEKIN ~ Lloyd K. Miller, 81, of 2220 State Street, died at 11:58 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at Pekin Hospital. He was formerly of 1205 Florence Avenue in Pekin.
Born June 8, 1923 in Morton to Elizabeth Miller, he married Arlene M. Schmidt on November 28, 1957 in rural Green Valley. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Chris (Tina) Miller of Alabama and Davin (Linda) Miller of Manito; and six grandchildren.
His Mother preceded him in death.
He served in the United States
Army during the
Korean War.
Mr. Miller was an independent television repairman for 30 years retiring in 1984. He also was an Admiral Television and Stereo Dealer.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley.
A model train railroader, he built train sets. He also was an inventor and tinkerer, and loved electronics and his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley. The Rev. Thomas R. Wenndt and DCE William Krueger will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Sand Prairie Cemetery in rural Green Valley.

GERTRUDE McCOWEN
(1919 ~ 2005)
PEKIN ~ Gertrude L. McCowan, 85, of 1207 Hamilton Street, died at 8:25 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.
Born December 30, 1919 in Harrison, Arkansas to Roy T. and Nancy “Dole” Madora Morton Flippin, she married Melvin M. McCowan on May 11, 1947 in Bartonville. He died January 14, 1977 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are one son, William M. (Sue) McCowan of Peoria; two grandchildren, Michael W. (Bridget) McCowan of Hinckley and Lisa M. (Barry) Parker of North Aurora; two great-grandsons, Reece M. McCowan and Riley P. McLaughlin; one brother, R.T. (Sarah) Flippin of Pensacola, Florida; and one sister, N. Sue (Jess) Williams of Tremont.
Mrs. McCowan worked for the State of Illinois Unemployment Office as a secretary for 25 years, retiring in 1974 from the Pekin office. She previously worked several years as a timekeeper for Caterpillar, Inc.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Pekin and was a former member of King’s Daughters in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Christine A. Bell will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

GLORIA BUCK

MARQUETTE HEIGHTS ~ Gloria Mae Buck, 70, of 103 Calumet Road, died at 7:12 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.
Born December 10, 1934 in Decatur to Harriett Rowlen Imel, she married Clarence Buck on September 15, 1957 in Peoria. He survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Ed L. (Sandy) Buck, Dan W. (Dee) Buck, and Kevin E. (Robin) Buck, all of Pekin; two daughters, April D. Balcom of Pekin and Allison A. (Daniel) Gebhart of Marquette Heights; one step-son, Mike (Brenda) Buck of Bartonville; two step-daughters, Carol Tjarks of Pekin and Sandra (Tom) Sims of Peoria; fourteen grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, one sister, and one brother.
Mrs. Buck had worked as a housekeeper at the Mineral Springs Motel in Pekin for 9 years.
She enjoyed her family, crocheting, and doing puzzles.
Graveside services will be at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
SHEILA TOMLINSON
(1942 ~ 2005)
PEKIN ~ Sheila D. Tomlinson, 62, of 2411 North Parkway Drive, died at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born June 27, 1942 in Pekin to Loren C. and Caralena “Carrie” Behrends Arnett, she married Donald Tomlinson on April 7, 1962 in Pekin. He died January 27, 1990 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Loren C. “Bub” Arnett, Jr. and one sister, Shirlene L. Arnett.
Surviving are her father and step-mother, Loren C. and Mary Margaret “Peg” Arnett of Iron River, Michigan; one son, Troy (Jeannine) Tomlinson of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Madeline and Chase Tomlinson; one brother, Kenneth D. (Barb) Arnett of Pekin; five sisters, Sharon K. Heilman of Princeville, Sheryl A. (Fritz) Timian and Barbara J. Friend, both of Pekin, Bonnie L. (Pat) Carr of North Pekin and Betty S. Draher of East Peoria and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her longtime companion, Larry Friend, whom she resided with.
She was the corporate secretary/treasurer of Arnett’s Grocery, the family business until 1988. Arnett’s was established in 1937. She also had worked for The Greenhouse Flower Shoppe in Pekin.
She bowled for many years in leagues at Sunset Lanes in Pekin.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Tracy Heilman and Rev. Mike Mulberry will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PEKIN ~ Virginia Lee Lindsey, 67, formerly of 706 Hillyer St., died at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005 at Pekin Manor.
Born July 29, 1937 in Pekin to John and Virginia Gambrel Fitzanko, she married William H. Lindsey on September 10, 1955 in Pekin.
Surviving are two sons, William Haywood (Marcie) Lindsey, II of West Chester, Ohio and Matthew J. Lindsey of Manito; two daughters, Lisa M. (Tim) Cunningham of Pekin and Denise A. Lindsey of O’Fallon; four grandchildren, Timothy J. “T.J.” Cunningham of Pekin, Kristofer M. Lindsey of O’Fallon, Alexandra N. Lindsey of Peoria and Garrett W. Lindsey of West Chester; two brothers, Michael Anthony “Tony” Fitzanko and Daniel Patrick Fitzanko of Pekin; and two sisters, Judy (Richard) Tolbert and Becky (Warren) Davis, both of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter and one brother.
She retired in 1999 from the Tazewell County Clerk’s Office after 27 years of service, last working in the payroll division.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pekin, where she also was a member of the Council of Catholic Women.
She also was a member of the American Business Women’s Association.
Her funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. David Whiteside will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.

VIRGINIA A. APPLEGREN

PEKIN ~ Virginia A. Applegren, 82, of Pekin, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.
She was born May 30, 1922 in Pekin to Charles W. and Dorothy K. Shane Applegren. Her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving are five cousins, Amy Applegren of East Peoria, Eileen Keenan of Morton, Donald Sloan and Wesley Sloan, both of Princeville and William Applegren of Bartonville.
She worked for Caterpillar, Inc at the Morton Parts Facility, retiring May 1, 1980.
She was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club. Formerly an avid golfer, she enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas and gambling.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Christine A. Bell will officiate. Private Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

PEKIN ~ Darlene Lee Patterson, 72, of 601 North 6th Street, Apartment 2, died at 2:36 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.
Born March 3, 1932 in Midway Valley, rural Bartonville to Omer Carl and Clara Evelyn Parkin Chitwood, she married Earl Marvin Patterson.
Surviving are five daughters, Bonnie J. (Terry) Bellows and Cheryl J. (Ron) Shaffer, both of Pekin, Luanne (David) Benjamin of East Peoria, Sandra J. Patterson of Melbourne, Florida, and Karen S. (Randall) Creech of Eureka; two sons, Timothy A. Patterson of Pekin and Kevin M. Patterson of Manito; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Jean (Arthur) Patterson of Pekin; and one brother, Darrell (Carolyn) Chitwood of Pekin. She also leaves a long-time friend, Bob Bushong of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, and one brother.
A homemaker, Mrs. Patterson enjoyed shopping.
She was a former member of the Women of the Moose in Farmington and was of the Baptist faith.

PEKIN ~ Walter D. Newby, 90, of 2501 Allentown Road, died at 8:15 p.m. February 8, 2005 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. He was formerly of 444 South Parkway Drive, Apartment 515 in Pekin.
Born January 1, 1915 in White County, Illinois to William Presley and Mina Gertrude Baity Newby, he married Grace Duckworth on August 20, 1934 in Carmi. She died April 9, 1962 in Pekin. He later married Lucille Laverne Bayler Foust on June 28, 1963 in Pekin. She died June 14, 2003 in Pekin.
He was also preceded in death by 1 son, Larry Newby; 1 step-son, Ronald Foust; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna L. (Willie) Cox of Pleasant Plains; one step-daughter, Sharon E. (John) Barger of Pekin; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Floyd Newby of Bartonville.
Mr. Newby worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 37 years, retiring July 19, 1976 as a maintenance millwright.
Of the Nazarene faith, he was a former member of First Missionary Church in North Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Thomas J. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

PEKIN— William Jack Gardner, 71, of 1422 Lake St., died at 1:11 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born May 28, 1933 in Pekin to Ferdinand and Rhoda Belle Sanderson Gardner.
Surviving are 1 brother, Ferd Gardner of Green Valley; 1 half-brother, Wayne Gardner of Farmington; 2 sisters, Helen Schnarr of Pekin and Alice Wald of Bensenville, Illinois; 1 half-sister, Phyllis Coffman of Peoria; and 3 close friends who cared for him during his illness, Herb Hungate, Dixie Brooks, and Rob Woll, all of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mr. Gardner worked at Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 31 years, retiring as a spot welder in 1982.
He was of the Christian faith.
He was a member of Empire Lodge #126 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois in Pekin and was a Boy Scout leader in Pekin for 23 years.
He was an avid model railroader.
