PEKIN ~ Frances J. “Jessie” Evans, 68, of 1128 Koch Street, died at 6:27 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born June 13, 1936 in Anna, Kentucky to Otha Wayne and Lois Marie Jones Young, she married Charles Edward Evans on September 12, 1951 in Russellville, Kentucky. He died April 12, 2000 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are five daughters, Ginger Kay Evans of Macomb, Tonya Fabry and Sharon “Nicki” Wade, both of Pekin, Kerria Smith of Monmouth, and Natasha Hoffman of Fairfield, Ohio; three sons, Jack (Susan Thornton) Evans of Delaware, Ohio, Richard (Diana) Evans of Pekin and Duncan (Gena) Evans of Crowley, Louisiana; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Susan McPeak and Ava Phillips, both in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Pekin Church of Christ.

She enjoyed gardening.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at her church. Rodger Givens will officiate. There will be no visitation. Private Burial of cremains will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel is in charge of arrangements.

LEE H. RENDLEMAN
(1918~2005)

PEKIN – Lee Henry “Slim” Rendleman, 86, of 1100 S. 3rd St. died at 10:08 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2005 at his home. He was formerly of Ware, Illinois from 1978 to 1995.

Born August 21, 1918 in Reynoldsville, Illinois to Henry Carpenter and Maude Culp Rendleman, he married Helen Bridgeman on July 6, 1940 in Jackson, Missouri. She died October 29, 1961 in Pekin. He then married Elda Alveda Bridgeman Newburn on October 6, 1962 in Pekin.

Surviving are his wife; 4 daughters, Carolyn (Scott) Bishop of Canton, Diana Schueler, Janis (Gary) Gill, and Jane (Paul) Everly, all of Pekin; 8 sons, Gary (Phyllis) Rendleman of Bartonville, Ronald Dean Rendleman of Pomona, Illinois, Michael (Beth) Newburn of North Pekin, Jack (Sharon) Rendleman of Bartonville, Darrell (Lynn) Rendleman of East Peoria, John (Miranda) Rendleman of Murphysboro, and Mark (Dianna) Rendleman and Matthew Rendleman, both of Pekin; 32 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Paul Rendleman of Zeeland, Michigan and Carl Rendleman of Jonesboro, Illinois.

He was also preceded in death by 1 son, Donald W. Rendleman on March 22, 2005; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.

Mr. Rendleman worked for Corn Products Corporation in Pekin for 25 years, retiring from the feed shipping department on June 30, 19 7. He had previously farmed in Union County, Illinois.

He was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Pekin and a former member of the Ware Baptist Church.

He enjoyed music and playing the guitar.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Charles Everly will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Bay Cemetery in Spring Bay.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 1320 S. 5th St., Pekin, IL 61554.

TRENT LEE DOMAN
(2005)

Trent Lee Doman, infant son of Trisha L. Humphrey of Tremont and Anthony R. Doman of Pekin, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he was born earlier at 10:47 a.m.

Surviving are his parents; his grandparents, Christine and Doug Brinkler of Tremont, Nathan and Kristy Doman of Pekin, Jennifer and Jeff Sayles of Creve Coeur and Daniel and Karen Johnson; great-grandparents, Barb and Dick Humphrey of Secor, Marsha Brinkler of East Peoria, Sam and Judy Johnson of Peoria, Charles and Patricia Doman of Pekin, Kathy Garlock of Pekin, John and Joyce Phillips of Pekin, Bill Kee of Pekin, Ron and Linda Tuley of Atchinson, Kansas, Ron and Cindy Button of Creve Coeur and Janelle and David Henderson; and his great-great-grandparents, Paul and Helene Garlock of Spring Lake, Betty Wiggins of Pekin, Maxine Humphrey of Bartonville, Delma Rendleman and Noma Patterson of Peoria.

His graveside funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005 at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor Daniel T. Larimore will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

GLADYS O. HALLAR
(1914~2005)

PEKIN ~ Gladys O. Hallar, 91, of 1520 El Camino Drive, died at 9:21 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005 at Pekin Hospital. She was formerly of 1117 Summer Street.

Born April 6, 1914 in Pekin to Alois Christ and Mary Hutz Heren, she married Edwin Hallar on October 27, 1935 in Pekin. He died September 20, 1979. She also was preceded in death by 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Marilyn Layer Ott and Kay (Earl) King, both of Pekin; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Ruth Barker of Urbana.

A 1935 graduate of the Methodist School of Nursing in Peoria, she did private duty nursing and had been a registered nurse at Pekin Hospital for many years.

She was a former member of the Salvatioin Army Home League and the Jolly 60’s at Faith Baptist Church, both in Pekin.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Home League, St. John’s Lutheran Church, or the Good Shepherd Lutheran School, all in Pekin.

MARION L. AIMONE
(1914~2005)

PEKIN – Marion Leonard Aimone, 90, formerly of 1311 S. 12th St. died at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born December 19, 1914 in Pekin to Louis C. and Lorraine “Lottie” Pamson Aimone, he married Flavel M. Thies on September 30, 1950 in Havana, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife on September 6, 1996 in Peoria; 1 step-son, Robert Everett on May 25, 2002; and 4 brothers.

Surviving are 1 step-daughter, Beverly K. (Elbert) Stevens of Pekin; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Lorraine (John) Ercegovich and Mary Jane (John) Abel, both of Pekin.

Mr. Aimone worked at Keystone Steel and Wire Company for 32 years, retiring as a supervisor in the steel mill in 1977.

He served with the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was one of the guards for the “Columbine”, General Eisenhower’s personal airplane.

He was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1271 in Pekin. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, specializing in caboose birdhouses.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Further visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

ELMER L. DOMAN
(1927~2005)

PEKIN ~ Elmer LeRoy Doman, 78, of 13684 Third Street, Midway Addition, died at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born January 12, 1927 in Pekin to Clarence Elmer and Florence E. Lee Doman, he married Freda Mae Johnson on September 5, 1947 in Pekin. She died February 17, 1971 in Pekin. He later married Dorothy E. Hasler Fuller on March 24, 1975 in Goodfield. She died on April 6, 1995 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Jessie Mae Lee and Pixie Lynn Doman in infancy, one step-great-granddaughter, two brothers (Harold Doman and Jackie Loy, in infancy), and one infant sister (Goldie May Doman).

Surviving are two sons, Elmer Charles “Chuck” (Patricia) Doman and Jackie Loy Doman, both of Pekin; six step-sons, Ron Fuller, Mike Fuller, and Jeff Fuller, all of Peoria, Martin Fuller of rural Manito, and Russell (Monica) Fuller and Chris Fuller, both of Creve Coeur; one step-daughter, Beverly Fuller of Peoria; twelve grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel (John) Peoples and Betty Wiggins, both of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.

A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he served with the Seabee’s.

Mr. Doman worked as a laborer for over 20 years working out of Laborers Local #231 in Pekin. He then worked for Tazewell Machine in Pekin as a core maker for 15 years. He last worked as a truck driver for Bob Ferguson in East Peoria for 15 years, retiring January 5, 1990.

He was a member of the William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 in Pekin.

He enjoyed fishing and doing small and large engine repair.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dan Larimore will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

M. NADINE BACKES
(1925~2005)

PEKIN ~ Marcella Nadine Backes, 80, of 2124 Court Street, died at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.

Born February 14, 1925 in Lilbourn, Missouri to John and Tina Bangston Fakes, she married Philip Henry Backes on September 25, 1941 in Pekin. He died February 5, 1995 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by one son in infancy and one brother.

Surviving are one daughter, Karon S. McCoy of Pekin; one son, Keith J. Backes of Emden; three grandchildren, Dina (Tony) Livengood of Kempner, Texas, Jim (Lori) McCoy of Pekin and Scott (Jody) McCoy of Green Valley; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, Larry (Judy) Fakes of Tipton, Indiana.

A beautician for more than 25 years, she first worked for Richard’s on Sabella Street in Pekin and later worked from her own home.

She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin and its Council of Catholic Women.

She was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed the Cubs – Cards rivalry, especially as her husband was a Cubs fan. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed dancing with her husband.

She also enjoyed crocheting and in her later years, knitting. As a seamstress, she made dance costumes.

Her funeral mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. David Whiteside will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, with the recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

MARY L. WATKINS
(1953~2005)

TOPEKA, ILLINOIS ~ Mary Louise Watkins, 51, of 22269 County Road 2800 East, Topeka, Illinois, died at 12:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She was formerly of Pekin.

Born October 12, 1953 in Topeka, Kansas to Vernie William and Mary Lou Blackburn Hoerr, she married Dan Terry Watkins on October 14, 1987 in Kahoka, Missouri.

Surviving are three sons, Michael W. (Melissa Vanderheiden) Kosmider of Morton, Thadeus “T.J.” (Joanna) Kosmider of Chicago, and Wade A. (Shelly Payne) Watkins of Manito; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Belinda (Wayne) Herndon of Forest City and Gloria Hoerr of Long Beach, California.

Her parents preceded her in death.

A homemaker, Mrs. Watkins enjoyed making crafts and doing crossword puzzles.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will be accorded.

Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

MARGARET L. FRIEDRICH
(1923~2005)

GREEN VALLEY ~ Margaret L. “Maggie” Friedrich, 81, of 13645 Christmas Tree Road, died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.

Born June 24, 1923 in Lee County to Mirl and Esther Faith McCray Trenholm, Sr., she married Glenn R. Friedrich on January 18, 1953 in Peoria. He died May 20, 1999 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Surviving are one son, David E. (Cheryl) Friedrich of Green Valley; one step-son, Ronald D. (Sandy) Friedrich of Green Valley; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Mirl Trenholm, Jr. of South Pekin and one sister, Gretchen D. Montgomery of Pekin.

A Navy veteran, she served in the medical corps during World War II.

Mrs. Friedrich was a medical laboratory technician for 40 years, retiring in 1984. She first worked for Drs. Weimer and Talbert and then for Drs. Teter and Baysinger. She later worked for Drs. Wright and Wright and then at Pekin Hospital for 11 years. She last worked in the doctor’s office of Drs. Wherry, Werner, Helden and Colson.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley, where she was a member of the Epiphany Society. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid at the South Pekin Congregational Church.

She was a member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau and volunteered at Ewe’s Treasures in Pekin to benefit Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Pekin.

She loved to bake.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley. The Rev. Thomas R. Wenndt and DCE William Krueger will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Sand Prairie Cemetery in rural Green Valley.

DONALD B. MICHAELSON
(1928~2005)

PEKIN ~ Donald B. Michaelson, 76, of 2209 Belmont Drive, died at 2:35 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Pekin Manor.

Born May 14, 1928 in Pekin to John and Johanna Marie Becker Michaelson, he married B. Louise Valentine on October 20, 1946 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda S. VanDyke of Pekin; one son, Lonnie L. (Karen) Michaelson of Pekin; five grandchildren, Lisa L. (Pat) Taphorn, C. Gregory VanDyke, Jeffrey M. VanDyke, and Abby L. VanDyke, all of Pekin, and Ryan J. (Amy) Michaelson of Florissant, Missouri; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emily Slater of Bartonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister (JoAnn West).

Mr. Michaelson worked for Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 39 years, retiring July 1985.

He was a member of Saint Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin and the Keystone Retirees Club.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and doing yardwork.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Dwight E. Borden will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

SHAWNA JO WATKINS
(1971~2005)

ROANOKE ~ Shawna Jo Watkins, 33, of 113 North Cleveland Street, died at 8:50 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005 at her home. She was formerly of Manito.

She was born October 25, 1971 in Peoria to Michael Wayne and Linda Jo Hancock Watkins.

Surviving are her mother and step-father, Linda J. and Arthur D. McCoy of Pekin; father and step-mother, Michael W. and Danielle Watkins of Pekin; two sisters, Shelly R. (Robert) Adkison of Pekin and her twin, Sherry J. (Wendall) Carroll of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother, Michael L. (Heather) Watkins of Lombard; three nieces; three nephews; and her boy-friend, Louis J. “B.J.” Bauers of Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin.

She was a 1990 graduate of Forman High School in Manito and a 1994 graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb with a Bachelor in Criminal Science and a minor in Sociology.

A police officer for the Metamora Police Department since August 2000, she served as interim sergeant from December 2003 to July 12, 2004, interim chief from July 12, 2004 to March 1, 2005, and served as sergeant since March 1, 2005, last working Thursday. She also had served as the school resource officer for Metamora schools. She previously worked for the Manito Police Department, last working as sergeant, Forest City Police Department, and the San Jose Police Department for three years.

She was a member of the Woodford County Chiefs of Police.

She enjoyed scrapbooking, fishing, and spending time with her nieces, nephews, and dog “Sarge”.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. John A. Worsham will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, where police honors will be accorded.
