EDWARD O. LYNCH

PEKIN ~ Edward Oscar Lynch, 84, of 409 Manor Street, died at 9:54 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.
Born December 27, 1920 in Pocahontas County, Iowa to James R. and Emma Biittner Lynch, he married Ivanell M. “Ike” Schriver Lynch on February 2, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Debra Marie Lynch of Potosi, Missouri; one brother, Francis R. (Shannon) Lynch of Varina, Iowa; and two sisters, Carmen (Marlin) Null and Betty (Hank) Sego, both of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
A heavy equipment operator for over 41 years, he last worked for N.E. Finch Construction Company in Peoria for 10 years, retiring January 9, 1986. Previously, he had worked in strip mines.
He was a 53 year member of Operating Engineers Local #649 in Peoria.
He had volunteered as a dog trainer at the Pottstown Obedience Training School and also for Tazewell County 4-H Clubs. He had written many articles in the 4-H newsletter.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
Mr. Lynch has donated his body to science. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

LARRY A. SEVIER
(1943~2005)
PEKIN ~ Larry Albert Sevier, 61, of 1408 South 7th Street, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Pekin Hospital.
Born July 26, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland to Albert Earl and Bessie May Roof Sevier, he married G. Marie Henderson on January 17, 1969 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Debi L. (Ron) Morris of Pekin, Cami L. (Luis) Sanabria of Odessa, Florida, and Kittra R. (Mick) Zantout of Manito; one son, Douglas L. (Andria) Lord of Morris; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sandra K. (Roy) Johnson of Pekin.
His parents preceded him in death.
A United States
Army veteran of the Vietname War, he served from January 21, 1969 to January 20, 1971.
Mr. Sevier worked for the City of Pekin in the Inspections Department for 7 years as the Plumbing and Sewer Inspector, last working May 31, 2005. He previously worked for Associated Mechanical Inc. (AMI) in East Peoria and at the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant in Clinton.
He was a 30 year member and past vice-president of Plumbers Local #63 in East Peoria and also had served as past president of its PAC. He also was a member of the South Pekin Congregational Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #916 in Pekin, and the Peoria Sportsman Club in rural Manito, where he was a former board member.
He enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR, and collecting ducks.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Thomas R. Cone will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States
Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

WILLIAM E. THOUSAND
(1924~2005)
CREVE COEUR ~ William E. “Bill” Thousand, 81, of 300 Riverview Drive, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe.
Born March 30, 1924 in Peoria to Raymond and Hester Levey Thousand, he married Joan E. Hoxie on July 26, 1946 in Peoria. She died July 8, 1996 in Peoria. He later married Evelyn M. Berry Franz on July 10, 1998 in Marquette Heights. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William N. (Lydia) Thousand and Collins L. (Pamela) Thousand, both of Creve Coeur; one daughter, Roxann K. DeJarnett of Peoria; three step-daughters, Sharon (Michael) Durham of Iuka, Debra Brown of Arizona and Leona (Glenn) Sirois of Maine; fourteen grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and five sisters, Mae Hall of Florida, Barb Mancuso of Wyoming, Elizabeth Cave of Texas, Dorothy (Lionel) Burns of Morton and Nancy (Wayne) Wiseman of Pulaski, Tennessee.
He was also was preceded in death by one son, Franklin Thousand on March 22, 1973 in Peoria and two grandsons.
He was a World War II and
Korean War
Army veteran and attained the rank of sergeant.
He was a machinist at Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1986. He also owned and operated a business, The Clock Maker, out of his home.
He was a life member and past commander of Creve Coeur American Legion Post 1234, where he also was a past bingo chairman. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4835 in Creve Coeur; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4999 in Chillicothe; East Peoria American Legion Post 983; Tazewell County Voiture 1170 of the 40 et 8 and the Paul Towne Amvets Post 169 in North Pekin. He was a past district commander of the American Legion.
He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. John S. Olsen will officiate. Cremation will be accorded. Burial of the ashes will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

PEKIN – H.E. “Gene” Gilbert, 81, of 15792 Memory Lane died at 4:29 a.m., Sunday, May 29, 2005 in the emergency room at Pekin Hospital.
Born December 30, 1923 in Mattoon, Illinois to Bruce E. and Mary V. Millhouse Gilbert, he married Carole L. Lapinski on April 14, 1962 in Havana, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife; 1 daughter, Kathy (Brent) Shelton of Marquette Heights; 1 son, Dan (Eve Elly) Gilbert of San Diego, California; and 1 sister, Mary Mettler of Clinton, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers; and 4 sisters.
Mr. Gilbert had last worked as a greeter at the Pekin K-mart from 1991 to 1999. Previously, he had worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in Mapleton from 1968 to 1986 and at Corn Products Corporation in Pekin from 1957 to 1968.
He served in the U.S.
Army Air Force during World War II.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2005 and 30 minutes prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery in Smithville.

IVENE H. SANGALLI

PEKIN ~ Ivene H. Sangalli, 91, of 2901 Broadway Road, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Born August 21, 1913 in Banner to Calvin Jacob Reed and Anna Christina Anderson Shipman, she married Egidio Gene Sangalli on December 7, 1935 in Pekin. He died October 6, 1983 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Shipman and Roland Shipman.
Surviving are one daughter, Julie Ann (Dennis) Krohn of Pekin and two grandchildren, Carole Ann Krohn, Esq. of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Dr. Bradley Eric (Beth) Krohn of Lake Oswego, Oregon.
She and her husband operated Sangalli Nurseries and Garden Shop for many years in Pekin.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin and its Council of Catholic Women. She also was a member of the Friends of the Pekin Public Library; T.A.P.S.; Pekin Hospital Auxiliary; Pekin Emblem Club #424, Sierra Club and the Pekin Country Club.
A private graveside service will be held in Craft Cemetery in Pekin. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

LOREN R. J. "BUTCH" BROCK

PEKIN ~ Loren Ray Jackson “Butch” Brock, 67, of 1910 Springfield Road in East Peoria, died at 9:01 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was formerly of 514 North 5th Street in Pekin.
He was born August 24, 1937 in DuQuoin to Luther Samuel and Ethel Jackson Brock.
Surviving are his sister-in-law Marlene L. Brock of Pekin; four nieces, Kathy Seidell, Debra Brock, both of Pekin, Sandy Bennett of Bartonville and Judy Mayhew of Canton and two nephews, Rick Brock of Pekin and Steve Brock.
His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Brock worked for Pekin Community High School District 303 for 17 years as a custodian at the East Campus.
He liked to fish.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. The Rev. Rodger P. Abatie will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

JOSEPHINE B. KYLE

PEKIN ~ Josephine B. Kyle, 91, of 1216 Maple Street, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at her home.
Born November 26, 1913 in Kingston Mines to Peter and Josephine Isoardi Bodi, she married Bruce Burton Kyle on June 27, 1934 in Pekin. He died November 15, 1988 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son (David L. Kyle on June 21, 1991 in Peoria), and four sisters.
Surviving are one son, Michael S. (Roma) Kyle of rural Manito; six grandchildren, Douglas B. (Sue) Kyle, who helped care for her, Michelle J. “Shelly” Daly, Leland L. “Lee” Kyle, and Eric L. (Traci) Kyle, all of Pekin, David C. (Benita) Kyle of Spring Bay, and Bodie B. (Marla) Kyle of rural Manito; seven great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandsons; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Estella Groen and Minnie Hayes, both of Pekin; and friend, Lucille Zimmerman of Pekin, who was raised with her.
Mrs. Kyle worked for the American Distilling Company in Pekin for 30 years, retiring in 1976 as a relief table lady. She previously worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria during World War II and prior to that she had worked in the office at the American Distilling Company in Pekin for one year.
She was a union stewardess for many years for Distillery Workers Union #4 in Pekin.
She was a former member of the Peoria Orchid Society.
She bowled in local leagues for many years and was an avid fisherman.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before services. Chaplain Ron E. Little will officiate. Cremation will follow services. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

LOREN L. SHELTON

CREVE COEUR – Loren L. Shelton, 97, of Bickford House at 1920 W. Willow Knolls Rd., Peoria, died at 6:55 p.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. He was a Creve Coeur resident from 1936 to 2000.
Born August 25, 1907 in Knox County to Henry and Meda Norton Shelton, he married Maeanna Weber on May 4, 1929 in Peoria.
Surviving are his wife; 2 sons, Robert (Geneva) Shelton of Bozeman, Montana and Richard (Betty) Shelton of Trivoli; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother.
Mr. Shelton owned and operated Shelton Electric in Creve Coeur from 1946 to 1970. Previously, he had been the Creve Coeur postmaster from 1948 to 1952; worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 18 years; and had worked at his father’s lumberyard and sawmill.
A mason for 63 years, he was a member of Frank N. Nicol Lodge #1170 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Creve Coeur, where he had served as treasurer for 40 years. He was a 55 year member of both the Mohammed Temple Shrine in Bartonville and the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Peoria. He had served as a trustee on the Creve Coeur village board.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling, tinkering, and doing yard work.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur. Rev. Eugene Talbott will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home, where Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Elmwood.

PEKIN – Patsy Lou Hopkins, 64, of 1312 Sommerset St. died at 4:02 p.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born June 18, 1940 in Beardstown to Warren L. and Mary Ethel Lawson Bell, she married Marion Lee Hopkins on June 30, 1958 in Creve Coeur.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 23, 2002 in Peoria; and 2 daughters, Donna Hopkins and Cynthia Hopkins.
Surviving are 4 sons, Warren G. King of East Peoria, Rickey L. (Denise) Hopkins of McLean, Heath A. (Gidgit) Hopkins of Horton, Kansas, and Curtis D. Hopkins of Pekin; 4 daughters, Debbie L. (Michael) Simpkins, Vickie S. (Andy) Davis, and Dianna L. (Jim) Strube, all of Pekin, and Christine L. Andersen of Lincoln, Nebraska; 24 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hopkins attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Pekin.
She was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed sewing and cooking, and loved watching her kids and grandkids playing sports.

MANITO—Leo Robert Keister, 71, of 11501 Hoff subdivision in Spring Lake township, died at 4:25 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2005 at his home.
Born September 23, 1933 in Peoria to Leo J. and Margaret M. Trunko Keister, he married Norma J. Yeck in 1960 in Peoria.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Lori (Don) Rife of Pekin; 3 grandsons; 1 step-grandson; 1 step-great-grandson; and 1 sister, Beverly (Daryl) Houghton of Springfield, Missouri.
Mr. Keister worked as an offset pressman for Howard Printing Company and Logan Printing Company, both of Peoria, for many years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Peoria Sportsman’s Club and Pekin Eagles Aerie #1869. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and
hunting. He was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Private visitation will be at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.
Private graveside services will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Rev. Gary Ford will officiate.
