WARREN PAUL DUDLEY
(1924~2005)

PEKIN – Warren Paul Dudley, 80, of 1415 N. 11th St. died at 12:23 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2005 in Pekin Hospital.

Born October 8, 1924 in Mapleton to Warren H. and Mabel Evans Dudley, he married Alameda Andregetti in Orchard Mines. He later married Betty Walker Hauk in 1971 in Pekin.

Surviving are his wife; 1 step-son, Carl (Leslie) Hauk of Tremont; 1 step-granddaughter; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Ray Dudley of Pekin; 1 sister, Ruth Look of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dudley worked at Allied Mills, which later became Continental Grain Company, in Bartonville for 47 years, retiring as the specialties plant supervisor in 1986.

He was a member of Pekin Moose Lodge #916 and the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed go-cart racing.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Maple Ridge Cemetery in rural Mapleton. Rev. Michael McLeod will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel is in charge of arrangements.

CHRISTOPHER ALAN HEDRICK
(1959~2005)

PEKIN ~ Christopher Alan “Chris” Hedrick, 45, of 4076 Craig Place, Gainesville, Georgia, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2005 at his home following a lengthy physical illness. He was formerly of Pekin and Reno, Nevada.

Born October 1, 1959 in Pekin to Darrell Roy and Donna Jean Dilworth Hedrick, he married Susan Kay Pankey on July 8, 1984 in rural Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are his father of Reno, Nevada; one son, Ryan Christopher Hedrick of Gainesville, Georgia; one daughter, Tara Danielle Hedrick of Gainesville, Georgia; one brother, Darrell Ray (Carol) Hedrick of Reno, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and one grandson (Kamren Zane Hedrick).

A 1977 graduate of Wooster High School in Reno, Nevada, he was a member of the wrestling and football teams.

Mr. Hedrick had worked for Ditler Brothers in Oakwood, Georgia for over 7 years, last working in 1995.

He was a member of Chestnut Mountain Church in Chestnut Mountain, Georgia.

He was an avid Oakland Raiders football fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Carman Foster will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund for the Hedrick children in care of Bank of America, 3637 Munday Mill Road, Oakwood, Georgia 30566.

VINCENT LADD
(1939 ~ 2005)

SOUTH PEKIN ~ Vincent O. Ladd, 65, of 203 East Main Street passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2005 at his residence.

Born November 10, 1939 in New Liberty to Ollie Wilford and Tressa Mae Johnston Ladd, he married Kathy Marie Formanski on June 9, 1990 in Melrose Park. She survives along with one brother, Jesse R. (Mary) Ladd of Paducah, Kentucky.

Mr. Ladd was preceded in death by his parents, three half-brothers and two half-sisters.

A self-employed truck driver for 37 years, retiring in 2002, he and his wife have owned and operated the South Pekin Mini Storage the past 3 years.

He was a fan of dirt track racing and was a dirt track racing car mechanic. He also was a NASCAR fan.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the South Pekin Congregational Church. The Rev. Thomas Cone will officiate. Cremation has been accorded. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

PATRICIA ANN LANE
(1932~2005)

MORTON -– Patricia Ann Lane, 72, 162 Black Oak Dr., died at 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2005 at Pekin Manor.

Born July 25, 1932 in Pekin to Arthur and Georgia Bandy Vogelsang, she married Donald O. Lane in 1949 in Pekin.

Surviving are 3 sons, Kevin (Linda) Lane and Donald Lane, both of Pekin, and Robert (Barbara) Lane of East Peoria; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 half-brother, Bob Vogelsang of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by 1 brother.

A waitress for many years, she last worked at the Peppermill in Morton for 12 years, retiring in 1997.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Burial of cremains will follow in Roberts Cemetery in rural Morton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

LEILA SUTTON
(1916 ~ 2005)

PEORIA – Leila Sutton, 89, of 3 Vicksburg Station, St. Charles, Missouri, died at 12:15 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2005 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles. She was formerly of Peoria.

Born February 16, 1916 in Farmington to Nathaniel and Minnie Ashton Wake, she married Walter C. Sutton, Sr. on May 19, 1934 in Peoria. He died January 11, 1994 in Peoria.

Also preceding her in death were 1 granddaughter and 2 brothers.

Surviving are 1 son, Walter C. (Ellen) Sutton, Jr. of St. Charles; 1 daughter, Geraldine (Ray) Erwin of Detroit, Michigan; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and 3 sisters, Lillian Stamper of Pekin, Alice (Lee) Jacobian of Oceanside, California, and Marjorie Hausam of San Diego, California.

A homemaker, she had been a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Peoria.

She enjoyed gardening and crocheting.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2005 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin. Rev. Michael McLeod will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church organ fund.

EDWARD WELLS
(1928 ~ 2005)

MACKINAW ~ John Edward Wells, 76, of 2220 State Street in Pekin, died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center. He was formerly of Mackinaw and Minier.

He was born November 24, 1928 in Danvers Township, McLean County to Thomas and Anna Winkler Wells. His parents; one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Surviving are one sister, Cleora Sigler of Pekin; his caregivers, Omer L. and Norma J. Noel of Manito and several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Illinois State University at Normal. He also was a United States Air Force veteran.

Mr. Wells was a retiree of the Peoria Journal Star, where he worked from April of 1967 to June of 1979 as a copy editor. He previously was a high school teacher.

He was a former member of the Christian Church in Mackinaw and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 in Pekin.

His graveside funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2005 at Mackinaw Township Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

WINIFRED ETHEL MONROE
(1904~2005)

PEKIN – Winifred Ethel Monroe, 100, of 601 Prince St., died at 7:45 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2005 at The Place on Prince.

Born December 15, 1904 in Manor Park, Condon, England to William and Jane Maude Cook Smith, she married Stanley George Smythe on June 18, 1927 in London, England. He died February 16, 1948. She then married Rev. Baskell Vernon Monroe on October 31, 1958 in London. He died in August 1982 in Pekin. Also, preceding in death were 1 brother and 1 sister.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Brenda (Norman) Sunderland of Australia; 1 grandson, Andrew (Ann) Willingale of Surrey, England; and 2 great-grandchildren, Victoria and Adam Willingale, both of Surrey, England.

A homemaker, Mrs. Monroe had worked many years ago as a retail buyer for Boardman’s Department Store in London. She had also served as a church organist, pianist, and Sunday School teacher in her husband’s parishes for many years.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Pekin.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Steven Rowell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 1501 Howard Ct., Pekin, IL 61554.

LLOYD JOSEPH BERKLEY
(1930~2005)

PEKIN ~ Lloyd Joseph Berkley, 74, of 631 South 11th Street, Apartment B, died at 6:07 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Pekin Hospital. He was formerly of East Alton.

Born August 29, 1930 in Elsberry, Missouri to William and Clara Baird Berkley, he married Erma Jean Merideth on October 10, 1952 in Arkansas. He later married Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Davenport on February 1, 1969 in Decatur. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Lynn L. (Jack) Peters, Donna L. (Scott) Books and Patricia A. (Wes) Jockisch, all of Pekin; one son, Tony D. (Connie) Berkley of Pekin; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and one sister, Bonnie B. Colbert of Elsberry, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Albert Berkley.

He served with the United States Air Force and retired from the Owens Illinois Glass Works in Alton.

He was Southern Baptist. He also was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing , fishing and camping. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Star Hope Cemetery in Elsberry.

RUTH CLARK
(1912~2005)

CREVE COEUR ~ Ruth Clark, 93, of 401 9th Street in Lacon passed away at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Lacon. She was formerly of 413 North Highland Avenue in Creve Coeur.

Born May 27, 1912 in Hartford, Connecticut to Alfred and Josephina Albertina Vidholm Stenwall, she married Leroy Thomas Clark on March 31, 1940 in Kewanee. He died March 18, 1997 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Surviving are one daughter, Janice A. “Jan” (Tony) Bonnette of Creve Coeur; one son, David G. Clark of Georgetown, South Carolina; five grandsons, Fred Clark of Peoria, Christopher (Kim) Clark of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Richard Bonnette, Robert Bonnette, both of Dallas, Texas and David Clark, Jr. of Georgetown, South Carolina and one great-granddaughter, Madison Nicole Clark.

She was a homemaker. She also was a former den mother and Girl Scout leader.

She was a former member of the Creve Coeur Library Board for more than 20 years. She was also a former member of the Creve Coeur Women’s Club and the Creve Coeur Home Extension.

She was a member of the Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Her funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. The Rev. Timothy Nolan and Rev. Lawrence P. Morrissey will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Further visitation will be 30 minutes before services Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee with Deacon Martin E. Van Meltebeck officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacre Coeur Catholic Church, 601 Rusche Lane Creve Coeur, Illinois 61610 or to the Creve Coeur Public Library, 309 North Highland Avenue, Creve Coeur, Illinois 61610.

SHANNON GREGORY
(1968~2005)

PEKIN ~ Shannon Sue Gregory, 36, of 1418 Summit Drive in Pekin, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at her residence. She was formerly of Bartonville.

She was born October 5, 1968 in Peoria to Pete W. and Sandra Aileen Rohn Whitehurst.

Surviving are her mother, Sandra A. Gilbert of Bloomington; her father and step-mother, Pete W. and Mary M. Whitehurst of Goodfield; one son, Levi Thomas Wells at home; her grandmother, Dorothy V. Rohn of Canton; five brothers, Rodney L. (Patty) Brokaw of Green Forest, Arkansas, Robert E. Brokaw of Oak Grove, Arkansas, Pete W. (Amy) Whitehurst, Jr. of Harrison, Arkansas, David D. (Mary) Whitehurst of Liverpool and Douglas K. Whitehurst of Chicago; four sisters, Robin R. Flier of Washington, Rosalie A. Brokaw of Rich Hill, Missouri, Barbie L. Ropp of Peoria and Deborah D. “Debbie” (Joe) Dotson of East Peoria and many nieces and nephews.

She worked for Bergner’s as a home store associate at East Court Village in Pekin for many years, last working Friday.

She attended Gethsemane Church in Pekin.

Her life revolved around her son and she enjoyed traveling. She liked to collect memorabilia on wolves.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Frank Noyes will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to a fund for her son in care of CEFCU.
