Suzanne “Sue” Greenburg, 45, of Chebanse, IL
Suzanne “Sue” Greenburg died Friday, May 29, 2009 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1 at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, where a Scripture Service will be held with Rev. Vern Arseneau presiding. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at St. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Chebanse. Rev. Vern Arseneau will officiate.
Mrs. Greenburg was born Aubust 21, 1963 in Kankakee, IL, a daughter of William E. and Isbel J. Saindon Buck. She married Kurt Greenburg in Clifton, IL on February 2, 1988. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Josh Lamie of Cullom; two sons, Josh Greenburg and Trevor Greenburg, both of Chebanse; foster parents, Kenneth and Patricia Johnson of St. Anne; one brother, Bill Buck of Kankakee; two foster brothers, William and Barb Johnson of Kankakee and Dan Johnson of St. Anne, IL; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cathy and Robin Anstrom of Kankakee, IL and Patti and Gavin Stolte of Champaign; two granddaughters, Hailey and Breanna Lamie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Greenburg was a homemaker. She had a passion for animals and gardening of flowers and plants. She also enjoyed the outdoors, playing sports, and spending time with her granddaughters.

Salvadore Hernandez, 51, of Onarga, IL
Salvador Hernandez died Friday, May 29, 2009 at his home. Visitation will be Monday, June 1, 2009, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga, IL. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Onarga Cemetery in Onarga, IL.
Mr. Hernandez was born April 28, 1958, in San Jose Parangueo Gto. Mexico, a son of Luis and Estela Martinez Hernandez. He married Patricia Alvarez in Watseka, IL on October 24, 1986. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Yesenia Hernandez and Elizabeth Hernandez, both of Onarga, IL; two sons, Matthew Hernandez and Julian Hernandez, both of Onarga, IL; four sisters, Carolina Hernandez, Gabriela Hernandez, Veronica Hernandez, all of Mexico and Maria Hernandez of Greeley, CO; one brother, Ruben Hernandez of Mexico; his father, Luis Hernandez of Mexico; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Tibaldo Alvarez of Onarga, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Fernando Hernandez.
Mr. Hernandez was a member of Immaculate Conception Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gilman, IL. He enjoyed reading, playing soccer and fishing.

Wayne E. “Rut” Rutledge, 67, of Tompkinsville, KY, formerly of Milford, IL
Wayne E. “Rut” Rutledge died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Emergency Room of Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, IL, where funeral services will also be held on Friday, May 29, at 10:00 a.m. The Revs. Neil Larimore and Brent Zastrow will officiate.
There will also be a visitation on Sunday, May 31, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and funeral service on Monday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m., both at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Tompkinsville, KY, where military rites will be accorded by the Disabled Veterans of America Association Chapter 20 of Glasgow, KY.
Mr. Rutledge was born June 15, 1941 in Danville, IL. His parents were Jack and Rene Griffith Rutledge, but he was raised by John and Audrey Killion. He married Elizabeth Cannon on May 8, 2000 in Tompkinsville, KY. She survives.
Other survivors include three step-daughters, Lisa and Mark Tobey, Tonya and Paul Gouty and Shannon Jones and Paul Lynn all of Tompkinsville, KY; one brother, Larry Joe Rutledge of Hoopeston, IL; three sisters, Karen Hurt, Cindy and Don Clyden, and Erma and Junior Hurt, all of Hoopeston, IL; one foster brother, Bob Killion of Cissna Park, IL.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard; one sister, Margaret; and one foster brother, Bill Killion.
Mr. Rutledge was previously employed by Uarco, had been a bus driver for thirteen years and was also involved in farming. He was a member of Danville Community Action and enjoyed flea markets, fishing and going to auctions.

Louis Kay, 94, of Watseka, IL
Louis Kay died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
Mr. Kay was born October 3, 1914 in Watseka, IL, a son of Wilfred S. and Dorothy L. Langellier Kay.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Kay, of Los Angeles, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Kay was in the Marine Corp. during WWII. He was a retired farmer; a member of the American Legion and VFW; a graduate of Duke University; and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Mary Ellen Glover-Calderon-Tuttila, 76, of Watseka, IL, formely of Sheldon, IL
Mary Ellen Glover-Calderon-Tuttila died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Watseka Rehab and Health Care Center in Watseka, IL.Visitation will be one hour prior to the 1:00 p.m. service at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon on Friday, May 29, 2009. The Rev. Ray Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, IL.
Mrs. Tuttila was born May 28, 1932, a daughter of Arthur Bruce and Margaret Merkel Glover. She first married John R. Calderon on April 2, 1950. He survives. She later married Jonas E. Tuttila II on November 26, 1967 in Harvey, IL. He died on May 4, 1999.
Survivors include 2 sons, John Arthur Calderon of Watseka, IL and Jonas Eugene Tuttila III of Shorewood, IL; two daughters, Nancy Ellen McCabb of Elwood and Deborah Calderon of Shorewood, IL; six grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, two grandsons and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Tuttila was a member of East Hazel Crest Bible Church in East Hazel Crest, IL and First Baptist Church in Watseka, IL.; was Assistant District Commissioner with Boy Scouts of America for over thirty-two years; was a breeder of Boston Terriers for twelve years her breeder name being G-Lover; and worked in the 6th District Court for Young Boys in Cook County.

William E. Hines, 51, of Lafayette, IN, formerly of Kentland, IN and Watseka, IL
William E. Hines passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, following an extended illness. The youngest of four children, he was born on May 13, 1958 in Watseka, IL to the late Joseph and Imogene Hines.
Bill attended grade school and graduated from Watseka Community High School in Watseka. After high school he enrolled at Illinois State University in Normal, IL, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. On June 29, 1992 he was united in marriage to Debra Hollingsworth, daughter of James and Rosa Spradlin.
In 1992, Bill moved to Kentland, IN and joined the Harvest Life Insurance Company where he was salesman of the year for three years in a row. In 1995 Bill opened his own agency and contiued to be successful in his career.
Bill was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kentland where he served on the Finance Committee and as a Sunday School Teacher for eleven years. Bill also ushered and was liturgist. He and his wife, Debra, were also Church Youth Leaders for high-school-age children. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Ketland for four years, winning three straight championships. His hobbies included Cubs baseball, the family Champion Saint Bernards and Brussels Griffon, computers, and being with family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Debra Lynn Hines, sons Clayton Roscoe Hines and Logan Edward Hines and daughter, Destiny Lynn Hines; three step-children, Ashlely Montoya, Tyler Hollingsworth and Garett Hollingsworth; one grandson, Samuel Edward Orellana; and two step-grandchildren, Taliyah Skye Montoya and Adrien Jose Montoya. Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father, a sister, Sherry Waters, and a brother, Fred Hines.
Funeral services for William E. Hines will be Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with Pastor Ed van Wijk officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, 219 South Fourth Street, on Thursday, May 28, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Memorial funds have been established in Bill’s name at Kentland Trinity United Methodist Church.
Zoetta G. McNeil, 100, of Mount Vernon, IL (formerly of Thawville, IL)
Zoetta G. McNeil died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mount Vernon. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the Hughey Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, and from 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Thawville Congregational Christian Church, Thawville, until the 2:00 p.m. services. The Rev. Tom Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridgeland Township Cemetery, Thawville. Memorials may be made to the Thawville Congregational Christian Church or to the Gibson Community Hospital in Gibson City. Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McNeil was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She was born June 8, 1908, in Onarga, the daughter of Roscoe N. and Kate Burnside Spellman. Her husband, Francis B. McNeil, whom she married June 29, 1929, died May 9, 1999. She was a member of the Thawville Congregational Christian Church since 1930, where she had been director of religious education, a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, a choir member for many years and served on several boards. She enjoyed embroidery, reading and tending to her African Violets.
Surviving are her children, Charlene (Harold) Stevens of New Carlisle, Ohio, Lee McNeil of Pingree Grove, Jane (David) Giese of Granite City, John (Linda) McNeil of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one grandchild, Joy Lee Klepfer; and two brothers.
John Franklin Alsip, 88, of Onarga, IL
John Franklin Alsip died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, with a 7:30 p.m. Masonic service at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11. The Rev. Elizabeth Reis will officiate.
Burial, with military graveside rites by Scott Air Force Base, will be in Onarga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Onarga United Methodist Church, where he was a member.
Mr. Alsip was a livestock market news reporter with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Ogden, the son of J. Frank and Etta Osborn Alsip. His wife, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Scott, whom he married June 1, 1946, in Ogden, died April 7, 2004. He enlisted and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the 8th Air Force. He served in England, France, Belgium and Italy, achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant. He was a member of the Watseka Masonic Lodge 446 and was a 50-year member of the Onarga American Legion. He loved fishing, camping, traveling and gardening.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jim Alsip of Onarga, Jeff and Debra Alsip of Baraboo, Wis.; one daughter, Janet Meyer of Fort Collins, Colo.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Ohde of Loveland, Colo., Katie Skinner of Millikin, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren.
Deceased are five brothers and six sisters.
Orval L. Harling, 72, of Clifton, IL
Orval L. Harling died on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the Watseka Rehab and Healthcare Center. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clifton, where he was a member. The Rev. William Callister will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Memorials have been established in his name for Zion Lutheran Church, Central High School Booster Club and Central Stars Youth Football.
Mr. Harling was a production supervisor for Roper Corporation, Kankakee Division, retiring after 27 years of service. He was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Clifton, the son of Verne K. and Eda E. Madsen Harling. His wife, the former June V. Hamende, whom he married Feb. 22, 1958, in Herscher, died Feb. 24, 1995. He enjoyed his pets, watching sports and being with his grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Patrick Shulist of Racine, Wis.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Vernon and Susan Harling of Clifton, Jeff Harling of Ashkum; nine grandchildren, Brandy Jones of Shorewood, Wis., Karla Jones of Owensboro, Ky., Kristina (Dan) Smith of Rocks Spring, Wyo., Rachel (Kevin) Farnum of Rantoul, Nicole (Jim) Goranson of Bradley, Ryan Harling of Clifton, Alicia Harling of Sachse, Texas, Brittany Harling and Victor Harling, both of Clifton; four great-grandchildren, Zoey Goranson, Nachel Smith, Madilyn Smith, Abigal Smith; one sister, Jean Boudreau of Clifton; and one brother and two sisters-in-law, Wayne and Colleen Harling of Algonquin, and Patricia Harling of Ashkum.

Charles W. Cross, 55 of Normal, IL
Charles W. Cross died Friday, April 10, 2009, at his home in Normal, IL. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, IL. Following the memorial service, the American Legion Post 635 from Normal, IL will perform a military Salute. Charles will be cremated and his ashes will be sprinkled on his family farm in Milford, IL.
Charles was born September 5, 1953 at Iroquois County Hospital in Watseka, IL, the beloved son of Ed and Jean Cross of Milford, IL. He was a graduate of Milford High School and Illinois State University where he later worked as an accountant. Charles was an Airborne Ranger stationed in Italy and a member of the American Legion Honor Guard of Post 635 in Normal, IL where he also served as the Post’s finance officer. Charles was an avid country-western dancer and golfer. He was loved by so many people for his contagious smile and personality, and for his caring and generous heart.
Charles is survived by his wife, Michele L. Cross of Normal, IL, whom he married June 13, 1987; two daughters, Chasmin Demi and Cota Lee of Normal, IL; parents Ed and Jean Cross of Milford, IL; sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Jack Estes of Danville, IL; brother, Tim Cross and Dawn Humphries of Amelia, OH; six nieces and nephews, Abby and Justin Queal of Omaha, NE, Libby Estes and Cande Perez of Danville, IL, Schuyler Estes and Shaya Skerrat of Tempe, AZ, and Crystal Cross of Amelia, OH; great nephew, Nation Queal of Omaha, NE; and two great neices, Marlie Jo and Corinn of Danville, IL

Harriet F. Jackson, 89, of Kankakee, formerly of Chebanse
Harriet F. Jackson died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Miller Center. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 15. The Rev. Connie Williams Moodie will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Chebanse. Memorials may be made to Central High School Booster Club or to the Clifton Food Pantry.
Mrs. Jackson was an accountant and bookkeeper for Chebanse Grain and Chebanse Crop Service for 20 years and farmed with her husband near Chebanse from 1945-1970. She was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Chicago, the daughter of James and Flora Mills O’Neil. Her husband, John W. Jackson Sr., whom she married Aug. 8, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo., died June 6, 1975. She graduated from St. Louis Business School in 1937. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, doing crosswords and reading.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Annie Jackson of Kankakee, Charles and Vickie Jackson of Denton, Texas, David and Cathy Jackson of Grayslake; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
One grandchild is deceased.
Marie H. Peterson, 95, of Crescent City, IL
Marie H. Peterson died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, with an 8:00 p.m. rosary service, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at St. Edmund’s Catholic Church, Watseka. The Rev. Vern Arseneau will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, L’Erable. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Peterson was a lifelong farmer in the Crescent City area. She was born June 8, 1913, in rural Clifton, the daughter of Simeon and Angeline Changelon Wauthier. Her husband, Carl A. Peterson, whom she married Jan. 30, 1935, in L’Erable, died April 19, 1952. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crescent City, the Grandmother’s Club, Spring Creek Community Club, and Home Extension.
Surviving are five sons and three daughters-in-law, Dean and Shirley Peterson of Watseka, Duane and Pat Peterson of Ashkum, Vincent and Nancy Peterson of St. Anne, Irvin “Red” Peterson and Allen Peterson, both of Crescent City; one daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and David Johnson of Billings, Mont; and five granchildren, Mindy Lee Peterson, Catherine M. Johnson, Christopher D. Johnson, Chad W. Peterson, and Jaysen C. Peterson.
Deceased are her parents, one brother and one sister.
Sandra S. Crook, 67, of Woodland, IL
Sandra S. Crook died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Watseka Rehab & Health Care Center. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14. The Rev. Neil Larimore will officiate.

Mrs. Crook had worked at Howard Industries for 30 years. She was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Stockland, the daughter of Lester and Kathryn Coryell Stahl. Her husband, Robert R. “Crooksie” Crook, whom she married March 4, 1967, in Milford, died Nov. 25, 2002. She was a member of the Illinois State Stock Horse Association for many years.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Darrin and Sherry Crook of Woodland; and two grandchildren, Andrea Crook and Cassandra “CJ” Crook.
Deceased are her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Arthur J. Harms, 83, of Ashkum, IL
Arthur J. Harms died on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Funeral services will be held on Tueday, April 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ashkum with Rev. Jan Horne officiating. Burial will be in the Ashkum Catholic Cemetery with military graveside rights by the Ashkum American Legion.
Mr. Harms was born January 29, 1926 in Danforth to Herman and Mary (Johnson) Harms. He married Marion Flageole in Ashkum on January 21, 1950. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2006.
Survivors include on son, John (Jeannie) Harms of Ashkum; three daughters, Patricia (Steve) Schunke, Pamala (Randy) Rabideau both of Gilman, and Susan (Bob) Mosier of Ashkum; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roy Harms; one sister, Alta Horn; and one grandchild.
Mr. Harms was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ashkum. He farmed west of Ashkum and owned Harms Brothers Trucking with his brother, Roy. After retiring from farming, he drove a school bus for twelve years. He was also a route driver for Meier Oil. He was a volunteer fireman in Ashkum for forty years and an EMT and ambulance driver for eight years for Ashkum-Clifton. He served for eight years as a Village Board member. He served in the US Navy for two years during WWII as an aviation Mechanic and was a member of the Ashkum American Legion. He also belonged to ESDA for several years and was an Iroquois County Auxiliary Deputy for several years. He enjoyed woodworking.
