Eva Joyce Jackson, 84, of Chebanse, IL
Eva Joyce Jackson died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at her home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. The Rev. Connie Williams Moodie will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Chebanse. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Chebanse, where she was a member.
Mrs. Jackson was a clerk for 15 years at the General Foods Coupon Redemption Center and farmed for 30 years with her husband. She was born May 21, 1924, in Mt. Ayr, Ind., the daughter of Arlie and Velma Bassett Brunton. Her husband, Donald F. “Dutch” Jackson, whom she married June 27, 1940, in Valpariaiso, Ind., died Jan. 3, 1994. She was a member of the Harmony Circle and Women’s Relief Corps. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ben Wolfe of Chebanse; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Delbert Brunton of Streator; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jean Yoder of Chicago Heights, Josephine and Don Ely of Cornell, Norma and Richard Cooper of Wooster, Ohio.
Deceased are one son, Ronald; and three brothers, Ray, Ted and Jim.
Roger L. McVay, 40, Watseka, IL
Roger L. McVay died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Pastor Elaine Daugherty will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka.
Mr. McVay was employed by Pat Satriano Motors in Watseka. He was born July 31, 1968, in Watseka. He was raised by his mother and father, Vickie and Glen Baker. He enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Brady-McVay, of Milford, whom he married Feb. 24, 2003 in Watseka; five stepchildren, Niki Feig, Lindsey Brady, Stephanie Brady, Ryan Brady and Amanda Brady; his mother of Chrisman; three brothers, Johnny McVay of Lincolnton, N.C., Troy McVay of St. Robert, Mo., Phillip Baker of Oakland; one sister, Dawn Baker of Oakland; and seven nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his maternal grandmother, Mary Gillenwater; and one uncle, Terry Walker.
Jesus “Dancer” Duque, 59, of Sheldon, IL, formerly of Milford, IL
Jesus “Dancer” Duque died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Neil Larimore will officiate.

Mr. Duque was born Dec. 14, 1949, in Mercedes, Texas, the son of Alejandro and Gregoria Espinoza Duque. He enjoyed playing the guitar and dancing, and liked to joke.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Natacha and AJ Strong of Bloomington, Ind., Alicia and Michael Long of Greenwood, Ind.; seven grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Eleazar Garza of Houston, Texas; and special friend, Lila Quick of Danville.
Deceased are one son, Jesse Duque; one daughter, Penny Campbell; his parents; one brother, Alejandro; and one sister, Hilda Mendoza.
Margaret M. Kupferschmid, 88, of Fairbury, IL
Margaret M. Kupferschmid died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home in Fairbury. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, at the Knapp Funeral Home, Cissna Park, and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Apostolic Christian Church, Cissna Park, until the 10:00 a.m. services. Ministers of the church will officiate.
Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Cissna Park. Memorials may be made to Fairview Haven Nursing Home.
Mrs. Kupferschmid was a retired postal clerk in Rankin. She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Cissna Park, the daughter of Lucien and Katie Hari Feller. Her husband, David E. Kupferschmid, whom she married Feb. 10, 1946, in Watseka, died Aug. 13, 1989. She was a member of Apostolic Christian Church.
Surviving are one son, Larry Kupferschmid of Shirley; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ann and Robert Beebe of South Bend, Ind., Becky and Doug Trunnell of Waterloo, Iowa, Sally and Robert Rinkenberger of Forrest; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one daughter-in-law, Sandra Kupferschmid; two brothers, Joseph and Benjamin Feller; two half sisters, Bertha Kaufmann and Emma Knapp; and three half brothers, Ezra, William and Ed Feller.
Dean J. Martin, 87, of Watseka, IL
Dean J. Martin died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Heritage Woods in Watseka. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka, and from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the First Presbyterian Church, Watseka, until the 11:00 a.m. services. Burial, with graveside military rites by the Watseka American Legion Post 23 and Iroquois County VFW Post 7450, will be in Body Cemetery, Woodland. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Watseka, where he was a member; Unit 9 Academic Foundation; Iroquois Memorial Hospital; or to Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
Mr. Martin had been an industrial arts and vocational education teacher and counselor at Watseka Community High School for 35 years. He was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Joel N. and Florence G. Percival Martin. His wife, the former Lorraine L. Jenkins, whom he married June 14, 1947, in Morrisonville, died March 3, 2004. He served in the U.S.
Army during World War II and was a member of the Watseka American Legion Post 23. He received a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in 1947 and a master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1952. He was a member of the Illiana Model Airplane Club and a former member of the Watseka Lions Club.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Patsy Martin of Watseka; two daughters and one son-in-law, Janet Scheina of Petersburg, Phyllis and Steve Tallent of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Graack and Joanne Mielke, both of Eureka, and Jane Shimp of South Bend, Ind.
Deceased are one brother, Howard Martin; and three sisters, Marjorie Martin, Phyllis Hanson and Blanche Moss.
Lorene E. Gerdes, 91, of Cissna Park, IL
Lorene E. Gerdes died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Provena Covenant Hospital in Urbana. Mrs. Gerdes was a homemaker. She was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Colfax, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Stein Brucker. Her husband, Meinhart Gerdes, whom she married Dec. 3, 1941, in Colfax, died July 21, 1996. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ash Grove, and the LWML.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Sheryl Gerdes of Cissna Park, Rodell and Marcia Gerdes of Paxton, Stanley and Barb Gerdes of Urbana; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Dean Hauptli of Morton; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one son, Dale Gerdes; two grandchildren, Gary and Shawn Gerdes; seven brothers and six sisters.
Carolyn J. Hoppe, 70, of Watseka, IL
Carolyn J. Hoppe died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at her home. Private family services will be held. The Rev. Benjamin Meyer will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Woodworth. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Miss Hoppe was a deputy clerk for the Iroquois County Treasurer’s Office for 38 years and also worked at Uarco and the Iroquois County Extension Office. She was born January 19, 1939, in Watseka, the daughter of Wilbert and Roselind Bremer Hoppe. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth, where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid and served as treasurer for many years. She enjoyed cooking and animals.
Surviving are two brothers and one sister-in-law, Allen and Judith Hoppe, and Michael Hoppe, all of Watseka; and two nephews, Adam Hoppe of Crescent City and Paul Hoppe of Watseka.
Marie R. Tipton, 90, of Watseka, IL
Marie R. Tipton died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Gilman Healthcare Center. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Mrs. Tipton was a personnel secretary at Uarco for 13 years. She was born April 9, 1919, in Stockland Township, Iroquois County, the daughter of Newton and Mae Crist Stanley. Her husband, Ralph Tipton, whom she married Aug. 22, 1950, in Kentland, Ind., died Nov. 2, 1981. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Watseka.
Surviving are one son, Dr. James Wengert of Danville, CA; one grandson, Tyler J. Wengert of Danville; two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are one stepdaughter, Peggy Brummett; and one brother.
Donald E. Focken, 69, of Watseka, IL (formerly of Martinton, IL)
Donald E. Focken died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at his home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City, where he was a member. The Rev. Joel Brown will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka. Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice or Iroquois County Ramp Builders.
Mr. Focken was a supervisor at Uarco for 44 years. He was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Watseka, the son of Francis and June Coash Focken. He graduated from Donovan High School. He was also a former volunteer fireman in Martinton and farmed in the Martinton area with his father for many years. He was a Chicago sports fan, enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, mowing and working with metal detectors.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rita Ellis, whom he married Sept. 5, 1959, in St. Anne; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lori and Tony Glazik of Limestone, LuAnn and Rick Nurczyk of Joliet, Lynde Wurl of Naples, Fla.; one son, Kelly Focken of Watseka; one son-in-law, Ken Wurl of Chatham; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
His parents are deceased.
James O. Faulds, 63, of Rankin, IL
James O. Faulds died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Knapp-Miller Funeral Home in Paxton, IL and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, at Frist Funeral Home in Clinton, IN.

Mr. Faulds was born August 21, 1945, in Clinton, IN, a son of Harold and Lula Maden Faulds. He married Linda Ferran on March 8, 1967, in Clinton, IN. She survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Tina Faulds of Rankin, IL and Betty Lou Faulds of Texas; one son, James O. Faulds Jr. of Springfield, IL; one sister , Patricia Bane of Rantoul, IL; one brother, Perry (Bert) Faulds of Clinton, IN; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Mr. Faulds served in the U.S.
Army. He was a construction worker and truck driver, having worked for Prairie Material in Champaign, IL and Shaw Ready-Mix in Rantoul, IL. He was a life member of the American Veterans of Rantoul, IL, Moose Lodge in Clinton, IN, and Eagles in Clinton, IN. He enjoyed playing pool, bocce ball, and Bingo.

Ms. May was a caregiver for many years. She was born April 25, 1939, in Langdale, Ala., the daughter of Calvin and Cenus Pitts Yarbrough.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Lisa Schuldt of Onarga, Randy and Christy Schuldt of Minooka; five grandchildren; her mother, Cenus Johnson of LaGrange, Ga.; and two brothers, Terry Yarbrough of Opelika, Ala. and Tony Yarbrough of LaGrange.
Her father is deceased.

Erma V. Fredrickson died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin. Mrs. Fredrickson was a schoolteacher in Champaign and Vermilion counties for 20 years. She was born May 7, 1911, in Ellis, the daughter of Lewis and Ethel Reed Thornton. Her husband, Leslie Fredrickson, whom she married June 30, 1938, in Potomac, died Aug. 18, 2000. She taught Sunday school for many years at her church and was a graduate of Rantoul High School and Illinois State University.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Pat Fredrickson of Kentland, Ind., Dr. Richard and Laura Fredrickson of Grand View, Idaho; four grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lottie Chenoweth of Armstrong and Vera Fiscus of Danville; two brothers, Henry Thornton of Potomac and Robert Thornton of Evansville, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Charles and Dale, are deceased.
Luella Irene Geiken, 83, of Milford, IL

Mrs. Geiken was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Stockland, the daughter of Gilbert and Lydia Wheat Jessee. She was a member of the Household Science Club and volunteered at her church on many occasions, including Wednesday afternoon Kings Club. She enjoyed baking, cooking and going on shopping trips with the senior van.
Surviving are her husband, Orval Carl Geiken, whom she married Sept. 15, 1941, in Schwer; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John Conner of Sheldon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Lynn Geiken of Raymore, Mo., Daniel and Ruth Geiken of Crestwood; six grandchildren, Todd Conner of Carmel, Ind., Tondra (Mike) Bennett of Sheldon, Shannon (John) Horn of South Carolina, Matthew (Janice) Geiken of Florida, Derek Geiken of Indiana, Greg Geiken of Tilton; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are her parents, two brothers and six sisters.

Marvin L. Geiken, 85, of Claytonville, IL passed away March 9, 2009 at Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Schwer. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. The Rev. Matt Steendahl will be officiating with Burial in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Schwer.
Mr. Geiken was born the son of Carl and Mary Hankey Geiken on February 11, 1924 in Milford, IL. He married Juanita Mohler on April 28, 1946 at Schwer and she survives.
Survivors also include 2 daughters, Donna (Stanley) Kopmann of Gifford, and Debbie (Bill) Long of Godley, TX; 3 sons, David (Karen) Geiken of Cissna Park, Deane (Cordelia) Geiken of Paxton, and Darryl (Tammy) Geiken of Crowley, TX; and one brother, Orval Geiken of Milford; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Darla.
Mr. Geiken was a life member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Schwer and a Foreman for the IL Dept. of Transportation for 22 years. He was a volunteer for the Cissna Park Fire Dept. for 20 years and loved fishing, camping and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed rebuilding cars.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cissna Park Fire Dept., Illinois Radio Reading Services for the Visually Impaired or St. John’s Lutheran Church, Schwer.
