Ruth M. Roberts, 87, Cissna Park, IL
Ruth M. Roberts, 87, of Cissna Park, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
Ruth was born on January 9, 1923 in Goodland, IN, a daughter of Gustav and Frieda Brutlag Scheiwe. She married Joseph M. Roberts on September 27, 1942 in Boswell, IN. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2010.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph (Cindy) Roberts Jr. of Momence and Jim (Lin) Roberts of Mokena; one sister, Lillian Murphy of Kankakee; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Roberts was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cissna Park, Ladies Aid and American Legion Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cissna Park. Rev. Kevin Wendorf will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Cissna Park.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cissna Park or to the Ruth Roberts Memorial Fund.

Marjorie L. Smith, 62, Newport News, VA
Marjorie L. Smith, 62, of Newport News, VA, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at her home.
Marjorie was born on September 9, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan, a daughter of William and Olive Foreman Dean. She married William Smith on July 2, 1977 in Brantford, Ontario and he survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Marisa (Andrew) Krum of Fort Wayne, IN; one son, William Michael Dean of Hawaii; one brother, George Dean of Merritsville, Ontario; one sister, Pat Dunn of Three Hills, Alberta; her mother, Olive Dean of Three Hills, Alberta; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland. Pastor Chris Lentz will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse.

Donald J. Ruth, 96, Watseka, IL
Donald J. Ruth, 96, of Watseka passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Faith Place in Danforth.
Mr. Ruth was born November 25, 1914, in Minneapolis, MN, a son of Grove H. and Elizabeth Hetherington Ruth. He married Edna Rahmeyer on September 3, 1960 in Kankakee and she survives.
Survivors also include one niece, Sharon (Doug) Dougherty of Inver Grove Heights, MN and two great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Grove Ruth and one sister, Ann Loomis.
Donald was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the US Army during World War II. Donald later served as president and treasurer of WGFA Radio from its inception in 1961 until 1990 and also as General Manager of the Hemb & Martin Box Manufacturing Plant for many years.
Mr. Ruth was an active member of St. Paulinus Episcopal Church in Watseka and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kankakee. He was a charter member and past Exalted Ruler of the Watseka Elks Lodge and a life member of the Iroquois County Historical Society. He was a licensed private pilot for over 50 years and enjoyed traveling, having visited all seven continents.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kankakee. Rev. Israel D. Anchan will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka with military graveside rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka and one half hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Iroquois Historical Society, Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Iroquois Memorial Hospice or Prairieview Lutheran Home.

Wilda R. Joslin, 92, Watseka, IL
Wilda R. Joslin, 92, of Watseka, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
Wilda was born May 27, 1919, in Bismarck, a daughter of Herbert and Winifred Starkey Moss. She married Harry Joslin on August 12, 1951 in Bismarck and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2004.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie Pew of Watseka and Sandy (Frank) Munsey of Grayville; ten grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; three sisters; one son, Maj. Joseph William Joslin; and one son-in-law, Dorance Pew.
Mrs. Joslin attended Northside Church of Christ in Bismarck. She was a secretary for Missouri Pacific Railroad for many years.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Northside Church of Christ in Bismarck. Rev. Jimmy Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck.
Memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice.

Marie D. Petersen, 97, Ashkum, IL
Marie D. Petersen, 97, of Ashkum, Illinois passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Provena Heritage Village in Kankakee, IL, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Petersen was born on September 24, 1913 at Ashkum, IL the daughter of Joseph and Leonie Lanoue Demers. She married Harold A. Petersen at L’Erable, IL on June 6, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1998.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law Joann and David Anderson of Lees Summit, MO and Sr. Carol Ann (Mary Carol) Petersen OSB of Atchison, KS and 1 son and 2 daughters-in-law Joseph H. and Tina Petersen of Herscher and Karen Petersen of Kankakee, IL. There are five grandchildren, Kelly Neumann, Michele (Marco) Freudman, Anthony Petersen, Matthew Petersen and Laura Jo Petersen. Also surviving are 4 great-grandchildren and a brother, Leonard Demers of Clifton. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, 3 sisters and a son, Robert.
She belonged to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher. She had been active in CCW and Altar and Rosary Society. She was a former member of the Central Hospital Auxiliary; She was active in Mission Work and enjoyed gardening and playing cards. Mrs. Petersen was a nurses aid and had worked many years at the former Central Hospital in Clifton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday June 4, 2011 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher, the Rev. Doug Hauber will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of services Saturday morning at the Church in Herscher. Burial will be in the L’Erable Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in her name for the Benedictine Sisters-Keeler Women’s Center and the Hospice of Kankakee Valley.

Margaret E. Bowen, 75, Watseka, IL
Margaret E. Bowen, 75, of Watseka and formerly of Milford, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Watseka Rehab & Health Care Center.
Margaret was born September 21, 1935 in Middleport Twp., a daughter of Clarence and Elna Wilson Probasco. She married William Melvin Bowen on November 8, 1957 in Sheldon and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1996.
Surviving are one daughter, Beth Carriger of Milford; three granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and three sisters, Ida Mae Lambert of Milford, Mary Grimes of Citrus Springs, FL, and Helen Pearson of Ft. Worth, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Bowen was a member of the Milford Christian Church.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland. Rev. Neil Larimore will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice.

Doloris M. Luhrsen, 75, Cissna Park, IL
Doloris M. Luhrsen, 75, of Cissna Park, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family.
Doloris was born November 11, 1935, in Cissna Park, a daughter of Louis and Nettie Rechkemmer Knapp. She married Robert Luhrsen on September 3, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Ash Grove and he survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Bobbi (Daryl) Thada of Cissna Park and Debbi (Keith) Pennington of Loves Park; one son, Timm (Patty) Luhrsen of Champaign; one sister, Aldine Martin of Sarasota, FL; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Luhrsen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cissna Park where she served on the Ladies Aid. Doloris retired from The ARC of Iroquois County after 25 years, where she enjoyed working with the developmentally disabled. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and loved to travel.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2011 at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cissna Park. Rev. Tim Hahn will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Cissna Park.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cissna Park or Donor’s Choice.

Marjorie L. Jordan-Lucier, 89, Milford, IL
Marjorie L. Jordan-Lucier, 89, of Milford, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Hoopeston Community Memorial Nursing Home.
Marjorie was born January 24, 1922, in Chicago, a daugher of Floyd A. and Cathrine M. Stone Laird. She married Dr. David Murdoch Jordan on May 28, 1943 in River Forest and he preceded her in death on October 1, 1963.
Surviving are one daughter, Jacquelyn (Peter) Lazarov of Milford; one daughter-in-law, Loretta Cubb-Jordan of Hendersonville, TN; six grandchildren, Pierson Lazarov of Milford, Margo (Joey) Watson of Milford, Bonne (James) Wood of Watseka, Eve (Patrick) Carey of Milford, Dana K. Jordan of Hendersonville, TN and Montgomery L. Jordan of Fort Worth, TX; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kathleen Jordan; one son, Laird Murdoch Jordan and one brother, Robert Marshall Laird.
Mrs. Jordan-Lucier attended the Milford Methodist Church. She farmed in Milford Twp., was an excellent seamstress and loved to read and dance.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Amity Cemetery in Goodwine. Rev. Gary Milton will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Milford Public Library or Milford Ambulance Service.

Catherine Bruens, 77, Milford, IL
Catherine Ida Bruens, 77, of Milford, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Watseka Rehab & Health Care Center.
Visitation will run from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford and for 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, May 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Schwer. Rev. John Brennan will officiate. Burial will be at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland.
Catherine was born April 22, 1934, in Martinton Twp., a daughter of Harvy and Nettie Fink Probasco. She married Donald ElRoy Bruens on December 26, 1978 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Milford and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Becky (Richard) Pentecost of Watseka; two sons, Richard (Mary Ann) Kincade of Racine, WI and Ernest Kincade of Edgerton, WI; two sisters, Betty (Everett) Longest of Milford and Elna Mae (Lee) Bertram of Arizona; two brothers, Franklin Probasco of Danville and Donald (Ethel) Probasco of Milford; twelve grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Howard Probasco; one son, Cort Kincade; and one grandson, Justin Kincade.
Mrs. Bruens was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Schwer.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, American Cancer Society or Donor’s Choice.

Shirley A. Peterson, 72, Watseka, IL
Shirley A. Peterson, 72, of Watseka, IL passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
Visitation will run from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with a 7:45 p.m. Prayer Service conducted by Rev. Lee Ryan. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka. Rev. Michael Powell will officiate. Burial will be at the L’Erable Catholic Cemetery in L’Erable at a later date.
Mrs. Peterson was born February 9, 1939 in Momence, a daughter of Alvin and Vera Mueller Cremer. She married Ernie Zbinden in December of 1958 and he preceded her in death in 1983. She then married Dean Peterson on December 21, 1987 in Crescent City and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Jennie Zbinden (Victor) Aiello of Milwaukee, WI; two granddaughters, Amanda Rose and Anne Josephine Aiello of Milwaukee, WI; and one grandson, John Andrew Aiello of Milwaukee, WI.
Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Peterson was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crescent City, serving as Treasurer on their Parish Council and also a member of St. Joseph’s CCW. She worked at the Milford Canning Company for many years. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking and canning vegetables.

M. Esther Rabe, 95, Crescent City, IL
M. Esther Rabe, 95, of Crescent City, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
Esther was born January 26, 1916, in Crescent Twp., a daughter of Theodore and Caroline Schroeder Rabe.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, William, Ted, Wallace, Elmer and Raymond Rabe; and two sisters, Ella Meyer and Claire Wacker.
Ms. Rabe was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Woodworth. She started work at Radio Condenser Co. (later known as T.R.W.) and worked there until 1969, when the company dissolved. She then worked for General Foods Promotional Center in Kankakee and for Howard Industries in Milford. After retiring, she worked part-time as a librarian in Crescent City. Esther was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, gardening and crossword puzzles.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Woodworth. Rev. Benjamin Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Woodworth.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Woodworth or Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.
