ROBERT L. CARSON

Benton - Robert L. Carson, 86, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at the Franklin Hospital, Benton.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with the Rev. George Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Carson was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Beckmeyer, the son of Charles and Catherine (Zimmer) Carson. He married the former Jewell Cain on May 2, 1939. She survives.

He was the owner and operator of Carson's Garage in Benton. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Carson, Benton; a son, Jim Carson and wife Kay, Benton; two

grandchildren, Jeff Carson and wife Leslie, Benton; granddaughter, Janet and husband Don Buttitta, Herrin; two great-grandchilden, Matthew and Joshua Carson, Benton; one sister, Catherine McBride, Benton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Hospital Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.

JANE COOK

Benton - Jane Cook, 92, died at 3:50 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002 in her home.

Services will be held at 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, June 13, in the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, Benton, with the Rev. Dale Carson officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call afer 9 a.m. Thursday to the funeral home.

Mrs. Cook was born in England on Feb. 7, 1910, the daughter of John and Jane (McNulty) Loftus. She married Robert Cook on March 15, 1929. He preceded her in death.

A retired LPN, she had worked at UMWA Hospital in West Frankfort, Moore Hospital and the Franklin Hospital, both of Benton.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Benton.

Survivors include one granddaughter, Paula Webb of Benton; two great-granddaughters, Alissa Webb and Julie Miller; one great-great-granddaughter, Michelle Miller; one stepgrandson, William Lehman of Atlanta Ga.; three brothers, Bernard "Barney" Loftus and wife Dorothy of Arizona, William Loftus of West Frankfort, Raymond Loftus of Arizona; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Emma Lou Leming and George and Rose Savko.

For those who wish Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Benton or to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home at any time.

ARCHIE RAY LINN

Coello - Archie Ray Linn, 67, died at 8:06 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, Christopher. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Mulkeytown. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday to the funeral home.

Mr. Linn was born in Benton on July 19, 1935, the son of Thomas Archie and Mary Lou (Mandrell) Linn. He was married to Martha June (Sisney) Linn on Oct. 16, 1992. She survives.

He was retired as an employee of the St. Charles Boys Home and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his wife Martha, he is survived by six children, Archie R. Linn Jr. and wife Leila of Caledonia; Lou Galloway and husband James of Coello; Fred Draper III and wife Christania Ten Mile Tenn.; Susan Lance and husband Jim of Boonville Ind.; Mary Gray and husband Maurice, Samantha Draper, all of Coello; 19 grandchildren.; one sister, Madge Yount of Sparta, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Linn was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

LOUISE (VAUGHN) PAGE

Newton - Mrs. Louise (Vaughn) Page, 87, died at 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002 at the Newton Rest Haven in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, wth Gary Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Westlaws Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be held one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the Newton High School Academic Foundation.

Mrs. Page was born on June 1, 1915, in Harrisburg, the daughter of Albert and Kate (Weilhelm) Vaughn. She married Sidney B. Page, Sr. on August 26, 1934 in Vandalia, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1999.

She was a homemaker and loving mother. She and her husband owned and operated Page's Printing and Office supplies in Newton for many years.

A member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, she was a member of the Jasper County Country Club, where she was Club Champion for two years in a row. She was also a member of the Newton Eastern Star.

Survivors include one son, Sid (Jane) Page, Jr. of Ewing; two grandsons, Sid (Cindy) Page III of Benton, Doug (Tammy) Page of Newton; three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Page was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, Freeman, Earl and Arthur Vaughn, twin sister, Lucille Vaughn and two other sisers, Jewell Roberts and Lillian Geiselman.

FREDA ANN BARBER

Sesser - Freda Ann Barber, 94, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, Herrin.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with the Rev. Jack Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barber was born Jan. 26, 1908 in Barren Township, Franklin County, the daughter of Harve V. and Maggie (Johnston) Atchison. She was one of eight children who were born and raised on the Atchison farm.

She attended Hazel Dell Grade School, Sesser Community High School, and was a member of Horse Prairie Baptist Church in Sesser.

As a young woman Mrs. Barber moved to Jackson, Michigan. to seek employment. She worked for the Sparks-Whithington Co. for almost 25 years.

She married Emmett Michael O'Sullivan and made her home in Michigan for many years. Mr. O'Sullivan died in 1948, and a few years later she married Frederick Barber.

After Mr. Barber's death in 1973 she moved back to Franklin County and purchased a home in Sesser. She worked part-time at the Custard Stand in Sesser, until failing health forced her to retire.

She was active in the Sesser Senior Citizens and a member of the Eastern Star in Sesser.

She is survived by five children, Robert and Lucille Kirkpatrick of Sesser, Phyllis and Carl Corona of Glen Ellyn, Patrick Michael and Victoria O'Sullivan of Chicago, Terrence Dennis O'Sullivan of Ann Arbor, Mich., Susan Barber O'Connell, Ann Arbor, Mich.; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Chesta Sulcer and Sadie and husband Don Lewis, all of Sesser; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.

Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jewell McVaigh and Buelah Hudson, three brothers, Willie, James and Kent Atchison and two grandchildren, Joseph and Maria Corona.

She was a beloved and beautiful lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

JAMES A. BOAL

Apache Junction, Ariz. - James A. Boal, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 7900 E. Main, in Mesa, Ariz.

A retired mechanic, he moved to Arizona in 1976 from Michigan.

He is survived by his sons, Charles (Marilyn) of Apache Junction, Ariz., James E. (Theda) of Pueblo, Colo., Carl E. (Sharon) of Metamora, Mich. and Roger G. (Gail) of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Leona, grandson James E. Boal, and parents Margaret and Garner Boal.

LLOYD ALLEN

Sesser - Lloyd Allen, 78, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Horse Prairie Baptist Church, Sesser, with the Rev. David Morgan officiating.

Mr. Allen was born in Sesser on Jan. 7, 1925, the son of Carl Allen Sr and Ida (Isom) Allen.

He married Mary (Rogers) Allen who preceded him in death.

He was employed in the trucking and lumber business.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Horse Prairie Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter Karen Romani and husband Danny of Sesser; grandchildren Jeff Allen and wife Dee of Florissant, Mo., Derek Allen and wife Jill of Hawaii, Michael Romani of Sesser, Heather Laur of Sesser, Brook Ann Allen of Sesser, Bethany Thompson, Fort Bragg, N.C., Lindsey Allen of Benton, Valerie Miller and husband Brad and Kendra Romani, all of Sesser; seven great-grandchildren, Emery and Hunter Laur, Clayton Allen, Rachel and Zachary Allen, Madison and Stephen Allen; brothers Robert and Carl D. Allen, of Sesser, H. D. Allen of Florrisant, Mo. and sister, Isabelle Walker of Yukon, Okla.; a special friend, Shirley Holdren of Benton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sons, Billy and Lanny Allen.

JOHN T. HOUSE

Benton - John T. "Jack" House, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the Franklin Hospital in Benton.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip Ingle officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Saturday until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. House was born in Qulin, Mo. on May 31, 1906, the son of Frank and Rena (Boshears) House.

He married Opal Lorene (Wilderman) House on Nov. 1, 1930 in Benton. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2001.

He had worked for Terminal Railroad until his retirement, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. As a young man, he had played minor league baseball in East St. Louis.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Glatthaar of Colonial Beach, Va.; one grandson, Eric Wesley Glatthaar also of Colonial Beach; one granddaughter, Ketti Cash and husband John of Jackson, Mo; two nieces, Wilma Hamm and husband John, Marcine Cooper and husband Ken; one nephew, Franklin House and wife Vivian.

LLOYD ALLEN

Sesser - Lloyd Allen, 78, died Monday, January 27, 2003, in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Horse Prairie Baptist Church, Sesser. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 6 this evening to the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser.

Mr. Allen was born in Sesser on Jan. 7, 1925, the son of Carl Allen Sr and Ida (Isom). He was married to Pat Allen. She survives.

He was employed in the trucking and lumber business.

LOUIE GIACONE

Christopher - Louie Giacone, 83, died at 8:17 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, in the Franklin Hospital, Benton.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Christopher, with Father Steve Poole officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday to the Gilbert Funeral Home.

Mr. Giacone was born on Sept. 26, 1919, in Valier, the son of Severino and Margaret (Rette) Giacone. He was last married to Lorene (Eure) Kirchner Giacone and she survives.

He was a retired employee of General Motors of La Grange in their Electromotive Division.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Italian Club of Coello, The Knights of Columbus, Christopher, and the V.F.W. of Sesser.

In addition to his wife Lorena, he is survived by one son, Barry Giacone serving in the Air Force in Arizona; two step-children, Robert Fabris of Justice and Joyce Lewis of Christopher; one brother, John Giacone of Benton and one sister, Jennie Pallay of Lansing; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

His parents, first wife, Colleen Clinton and one step-son Robert Kirchner preceded him in death.
