MABLE LAMPLEY

Thompsonville - Mable Marie Lampley, 80, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at the Benton Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton with the Rev. Gilbert Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Plasters Grove Cemetery, Thompsonville. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lampley was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Franklin County, the daughter of Charlie and Emma (Summers) Miner. She married Walter Palmer, and he died in 1949. She later married Harold Lampley on April 26, 1952, and he survives.

She was a housewife and a member of the Carter's Temple Congregational Christian Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Charles Palmer and wife Barbara, Donnie Palmer and wife Velma, and Danny Lampley and wife Judy, all of Thompsonville, Eddie Lampley and wife Denise, Benton, Rita and husband Greg Patton, West Frankfort, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, and a special niece and nephew Shirley Miner, Rockford, and Gary Miner, California.

Mrs. Lampley was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jewell Miner, and two grandchildren, Charles Palmer, Jr. and Joseph Lampley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

RUTH ELIZABETH PAYNE

Sesser - Ruth Elizabeth Payne, 95, left this world Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, to rejoice with her loved ones in heaven.

She was born March 26, 1908, in Sesser, the daughter of Matthew Franklin Cockrum and Mary Viola Cockrum. She married Harold Ernest Payne Sept. 20, 1930. He died June 27, 1963.

She was a devoted member of the Horse Prairie Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Horse Prairie Baptist Church with A.B. Plunkett officiating. Burial will be in the Horse Prairie Cemetery in Sesser. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday to the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, Sesser, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the church.

Survivors include two daughters, Dolores Payne Tillman of Sesser and Hazel Payne Rhodes of Sanford, Fla.; one son, Virgil Leroy Payne of Sesser; 14 grandchildren, Terry Tomasek of Greensboro, N.C., Lisa Lee of Clinton, Mo., Jill Ballard of Aiken, S.C., Steve Dummer of Villa Rica, Ga., Susan Beske of Douglasville, Ga., Ryan Payne and Sean Payne of Sesser, Marty Spiller of Austin, Texas, Becky Brown, Pamela Payne, Louis Gerald Payne Jr., Martha Potts, Ernest Payne, Mark Payne; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, one son, Louis Gerald Payne, one daughter, Viola Spiller, eight brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, per her request, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home and Family Services, 949 County Road 1300 N. Carmi, IL. 62821-9909, and will be accepted by the funeral home.

JAMES SCOTT HOUSE

Benton - James Scott House, 42, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. House's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held this Sunday, Aug. 10, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Rend Lake's North Marcum Branch, Shelter No. 8, for family and close friends. Relatives and friends of Scotty's are invited to join Mary Ann and Carl Payne at their home, 222 W. Main St. in Buckner, following the services. Food wil be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. House was born March 4, 1961, in Benton, the son of James Leroy House and Mary Ann (Sneed) Payne.

He was a journeyman iron worker and a member of Iron Workers Local 184 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a member of the East Benton Baptist Church.

Mr. House is survived by his mother Mary Ann (Sneed) Payne and her husband Carl, Buckner; father James L. House and his friend Candace Hamilton, Benton; two sons, James Dakota House, Chesterton, Ind., and James Zachary Scott House, Peru, Ind.; one daughter, Natalie Ann House, Chesterton, Ind.; grandmother Velma House, Benton; one brother, James "Ode" Day and wife Kelley, California; and one sister, Sally Ann Bando and husband Jim, Gilbertsville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James P. House, and grandparents James and Jackie Sneed.

Poulson's Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements.

RUBY AIKEN FAGERBURG

Formerly Benton - Ruby Aiken Fagerburg, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Dec. 10, 2002, died on July 6, 2003.

She was born in Benton in 1902 to Hiram and Coral Aiken. She was a middle child of 11 children and remained close to all her brothers and sisters throughout their lives.

Ruby married Rudy Fagerburg in 1925, and they enjoyed 60 years of loving marriage through the Depression and World War II. They had one child, Joan, born in 1928.

Rudy worked for a coal company as a mining engineer, and they lived in Benton, Fund du Lac, Wis., and Champaign before moving to Riverside in 1932, where Joan was raised.

Ruby worked at the Montgomery Ward store in LaGrange for 20 years. In 1953, she and Rudy built a home, designed by Rudy, in Western Springs.

Ruby and Rudy were active members of the Western Springs Congregational Church. Ruby was a women's club member and helped as a grandma in the church nursery.

She was a loving grandmother to Karin and Bob Shurtleff. She was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Her great-grandchildren, Matthew, Peggy, Nathan and Lorelei Ruby Crain, were all fortunate to know and love her. She was a wonderful gardener and cook, and loved family gatherings.

After the death of her husband, she remained five more years in their home and then moved into Plymouth Place of LaGrange Park for five years. She then spent her last eight years with her daughter, Joan, and son-in-law, John Shurtleff, in their Riverside home.

Ruby loved live and had much to give to all her loved ones in her long time with them. She is survived by her daughter, her granddaughter and her four great-grandchildren. Local relatives include nephews Ron Aiken and John D. Aiken and sister-in-law Fern Aiken Hudson, all of Benton.

JAMES SCOTT HOUSE

Benton - James Scott House, 42, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon.

VERA F. CYPHER

Whittington - Vera F. Cypher, 83, of Whittington died Friday morning, Aug. 1, 2003, at the Benton Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Larry House officiating. Burial will be in the Masonc & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call after noon on Sunday until the funeral hour to the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home.

Vera was born in Benton on Oct. 8, 1919, the daughter of Freil and Eva May (Sanders) Fisher.

On Dec. 29, 1956, in Benton, she married Jasper Cypher, and he survives.

Mrs. Cypher was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church in Whittington.

She is survived by her husband, Jasper Cypher of Whittington, and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by one sister, Letha, and by three brothers, Olen Leroy, James F. and Wesley V.

DOLORES M. KULICH

Benton - Dolores Mae Kulich, 71, died at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the Benton Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kulich was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Mary Mottle. She married Frank Kulich on July 13, 1968, and he survives.

She was a retired bookkeeper, a member of the Benton Elks, and of the Lutheran faith.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Wayne Kulich, Benton, Frank Kulich, Benton, Glenn Kulich, Bradley, Daryl Kulich, Kankakee; six grandchildren, Wayne Kulich, Tampa, Fla., Ronald Kulich, Merritt Island, Fla., Frank Kulich, Benton, Brian Kulich, Sesser, Jennifer Kulich, Bradley, Christine Kulich, Bradley; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Kulich, Sesser, Frank Kulich, Benton, and Jordan Kulich, Benton,

Mrs. Kulich was preceded in death by her parents.

EVERETT ELZIE CLARK

Macedonia - Everett Elzie Clark, 85, went to be with the Lord at 4:32 p. m. July 30, 2003, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. His death was the result of injuries sustained in a July 23 auto accident.

Everett was born Sept. 25, 1917, in rural Macedonia to Irvin & Ida (Kearney) Clark. On Nov. 24, 1937, he married June Frances Overturf and they lived together in their Macedonia home until her death on Oct. 25, 2001.

Everett was a grain and livestock farmer for over fifty years. He was often the first farmer in the county to try new farming practices, many of which are now commonplace in agricultural production. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and attended the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, McLeansboro. During his lifetime he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader and Chairman of the Administrative Board.

Everett is survived by one sister, Ruth Fowler, Macedonia; three sons and daughters-in-law Morris and Karan Clark, Macedonia, Terry and Judy Clark, West Frankfort, and David and Kathy Clark, Macedonia; seven grandchildren, Danny Clark and wife Lisa, Macedonia, Chuck Clark, Carbondale, Tamara Willmore, and husband Allan, West Frankfort, Kristen Clark, Energy, Tabitha Miller and husband Drake, Benton, Adam Clark and wife Marcie, Macedonia, and Samantha Clark, Macedonia; seven great-grandchildren, Ramsey and Jaycee Clark, Macedonia, Lucas and Marah Willmore, West Frankfort and Blane Makennah, and Madeleine Miller, Benton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife June.

Everett was a Christian father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor, and friend, who was greatly loved and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, Benton, with Pastor Leland Widick officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton.

THELMA CARLISLE

Fort Scott, Kansas - Thelma Carlisle, 81, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott, Kan.

She was born on Sept. 27, 1921, in Benton, the daughter of William Ross Jones and Flora Belle Hall Jones.

She married Carl A. Carlisle in 1937. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Fort Scott.

Mrs. Carlisle loved gardening, flowers and table games. She enjoyed being active with youth in church work and teaching youths in Sunday School.

Survivors include four sons, Carl Eugene Carlisle and Ronald Owen Carlisle, both of Fort Scott, Edward Leon Carlisle, Portage, Ind. and Larry Ross Carlisle of Rota, Spain. Also surviving are three sisters, Lavenia Auten, Mesa, Ariz. Letha Ward Schereville, Ind. and Fleta Culbreth, DeMotte, Ind; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Evelyn Carlisle, two sisters, Oma Roberts and infant Ruby Ellen Jones, and a brother Melvin Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Poulson Funeral Home in Benton. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Thompsonville. Visitation will be from 10 a. m. until time of service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

The family received friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. today in the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, in Fort Scott, where son Larry Carlisle led a short devotion at 7:30 p.m. during visitation. Memorials are suggested to Emanuel Baptist Church and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P. O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
