Geraldine 'Gerry' Rosenthal

ANNA -- Geraldine F. 'Gerry' (Shasteen) Rosenthal, 83, born Sept. 1, 1920, in Green County, Ark., died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, after an extended illness. Geraldine was best known for her involvement in the United Pentecostal Church in Anna. During her many years of service, she supported the ministry with her cooking skills and her gentle wisdom. During the years it took for the ministry to construct and pay for the Fellowship Hall, she became a veteran of many a chicken and dumpling dinners and became a true master at making candy to help raise money. If it is true as they say that blood and sweat help make the best mortar, then surely that fellowship hall will stand forever. She and her beloved husband Estel (who has already gone to be with the Lord) spent much blood, sweat, and even a few tears during its construction. But even more important to her than her church was her family. Raising four daughters is surely a challenge for anyone to undertake, but she proved herself to be just as dedicated and strong in this mission. Her daughters stand as living monuments to her wisdom and love. Her family and friends ask that we all consider this event not a tragedy, but a glorious triumph. Coming from a poor family with nothing, she, by the grace of God, was able to touch so many lives and shine as a beacon of hope to all those around her. While many will miss her love, her quiet courage and her gentle strength, let us remember that she is, even now, receiving the heavenly reward that she so richly deserves. She is preceded in death by her husband, Estel and by her daughter, Brenda. She is survived by her three daughters, Sue Whiting, Shirley Van Hoose and Sharon Webb; and by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday, June 25, 2004, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Richard Pearce officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. today at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna. Memorials may be made to the Landmark Pentecostal Church.
