Robert 'Bob' Hepburn

JONESBORO -- Robert J. 'Bob' Hepburn, 85, of Hollywood, Fla., and formerly of Jonesboro, died at Monday, June 14, 2004, in Hollywood. Services will be at 1 p. m. Sunday at Hileman Funeral Home, with Dr. Richard Hertenstein officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Saturday.

Lance Herzog

MARION -- Lance Michael Herzog, 25, of Marion, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Reverend Jeff Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the funeral home. Lance was born on July 24, 1978, in Herrin, to Rosemary Johnson. He married Casey Haught on Sept. 15, 2001, in Marion and she survives. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Julia and Nicole Herzog; mother, Rosemary and Mike Johnson of Marion; mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Jamie Haught of Marion; mother-in-law, Sheila Haught of Marion; maternal grandparents, Frank and Virginia Mezo of Herrin; grandparents, James Haught Sr. and Evelyn Vaughn; brothers-in-law, Lee Haught of Marion, Jerry Burnett of Marion and Justin Burnett of Marion; best friend, James Lewis, and several aunts and uncles. Donald E. Booten

ZEIGLER -- Donald E. Booten, 73, a former Benton resident, died at 11:10 p. m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at West Frankfort Care Center. He was born on Jan. 23, 1931, in Perkin, the son of Clifton and Genevieve Booten. Mr. Booten was a U. S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Benton Masonic Lodge 64 AF and AM. Mr. Booten was employed by the city of Benton in the water department for many years. He is survived by his son, Tim Booten and wife Judy of Benton; grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer; and sister, Jeanette Trotter of Benton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at the Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton, with Sister Ruth Hayes officiating. military rites will be conducted by the Benton American Legion and VFW Posts. There will be no visitation. Those attending the service are requested to go directly to the cemetery. The Morton & Johnston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Booten's memory to the American Diabetes. Association.

Ermon Johnson

CAIRO -- Ermon Johnson, 93, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Day Star Care Center in Cairo. Services will be held at noon Saturday at the Massie Funeral Home in Cairo, with the Rev. Ronnie S. Mack officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a. m. Monday in the Mound City National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to the hour of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Dortha Buldtman

METROPOLIS -- Dortha Buldtman, 91, died at 11:55 p. m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at home. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Thusday, June 17, 2004, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Deem officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. today at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home and after 9 a. m. Thursday at the church.

Lena McKinley

CARBONDALE -- Lena Mae McKinley, 87, died at 10 p. m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Metron of Kalamazoo, Mich. Services will be at 1 p. m. Thursday at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Carbondale, with Dr. Norman S. Greer officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. at the church. Leaving to cherish her precious memory are three sons, Emmitt Odell and wife DeDee McKinley of Kalamazoo, Mich., Augustus McKinley of Carbondale and John Robert 'George' McKinley of Fort Wayne, Ind. ; one brother, Robert 'R. B. ' and wife Marian Cavitt of Carbondale; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Jackson Funeral Home of Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.

Heardy Paul VanOver

PERCY -- Heardy Paul VanOver, 75, died at 8:28 p. m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Marion. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, with the Rev. Willis Durbin officiating. Burial will be in the Looney Springs Cemetery in Campbell Hill. Visitation will be after 6 p. m. Thursday and 7:30 a. m. to the hour of service Friday at the funeral home. Mr. VanOver was born on Thursday, Dec. 27, 1928, in Willisville, the son of Paul and Mabel (Snider) VanOver. He served in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1956. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Willisville. He is survived by his sisters, Earline VanOver of Sparta, Helen and husband Robert of Pritchett of Mascoulah; Ruth and husband Charles Jeremiah of Willisville, Gertrude Kammermann of Willisville; seven nieces; five nephews; 28 great-nieces and nephews; nine great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Juanita VanOver.

Myrtle Marie Claflin

CARRIER MILLS -- Myrtle Marie Claflin, 90, died at 6 p. m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday at the Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills, with the Rev. Leon Dunning officiating. Visitation will be held after 9:30 a. m. Thursday until the time of services at the Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.

Joe Ansinelli

CARTERVILLE -- Joe Ansinelli, 45, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at St. Louis University Hospital from injuries received in a motorcyle accident. Arrangements are incomplete at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville. Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund for his two daughters, Randi and Kelly.

MARION -- Ronald L. Albright, 88, died at 8:42 a. m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at the home of a family friend in Charleston. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p. m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Marion, with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p. m. until the time of service at the church. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is handling the arrangements.

Robert Clarance Travelstead

MARION -- Robert Clarance Travelstead, 74, passed away at 8:45 a. m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, at home. Services will be at 1 p. m. today at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Jimmy Moake and Gary Holmes officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant 'Poordo' Cemetery. military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent to Blue Funeral Home, P. O. Box 411 Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Travelstead was born on June 11, 1929, in Harrisburg, to Clarance and Iva Travelstead. He married Mary Beggs on March 18, 1951, and she survives. Other survivors include son, Delmar Travelstead of Crab Orchard; daughter, Robin Travelstead of Evansville; grandchildren, Matthew Wall, Dallas Travelstead, Johnathan Travelstead and Jason Norris, all of Crab Orchard, and Angela Wall Waltz of Evansville; great-grandchildren, Damian Waltz of Evansville, Taylor Leigh Travelstead and Devin Norris, both of Crab Orchard; sister, Juanita Farthing of Marion; and brother, Bill Travelstead of Coos Bay, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Dean Travelstead; and sister, Donna Nolan. He retired from the coal mines in 1992. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant 'Poordo' Freewill Baptist Church. He served his country in the U. S. Army and in the U. S. Navy.

Dale R. 'Punk' Smith

WEST FRANKFORT -- Dale R. 'Punk' Smith, 66, of West Frankfort, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in St. Louis University Hospital. Services will be at 1 p. m. Sunday in Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Ron Cremeens officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p. m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born Sept. 14, 1937, in Benton, the son of William G. and Birdie (Roberts) Smith. He married Maxine Bradshaw on March 19, 1958, in Benton, and she survives. He was a coal miner, retiring from Freeman United Coal Company. He owned and trained thoroughbred horses. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Maxine Smith of West Frankfort; a daughter, Robin Thomas of Herrin; a son, Billy Smith of West Virginia; granddaughters, Mica and Megan Thomas of Herrin and Samantha 'Sam' Smith of Marion; five brothers, Bob Smith, James 'Jim' Smith, Gene Smith, Ernest 'Zeke' Smith and Gary 'Joe' Smith, all of Benton; nine sisters, Eunice 'Mae' Conner, Mary Hobbie and husband, Jim, Dorothy Cockrum, Jeannette Tasky and husband, Andy, Geneva Smith, Sharon Heinrich and husband, Ernie, and Jody Fotheringham, all of Benton, Lenita Adams and husband, Billy of West Frankfort and Judy Ward and husband, Mike of Du Quoin; two special friends, Jim and Dena Groves; cousin, William Roberts; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John C. 'Jake' Smith and one sister, Belinda Sue Smith.

James L. 'Jim' Mathews

ELIZABETHTOWN -- James L. 'Jim' Mathews, 74, longtime resident of Gallatin County in Bowlesville Township, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2004. Services will be at 1 p. m. Sunday in Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgeway, with the Rev. Steve Reed officiating. Burial will be in Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m. today in the funeral home. Jim, as most people knew him, was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Cold Water, Miss., to the late George and Myrtle (Turner) Mathews. On Sept. 25, 1956, he married Nina H. Lane. He was a retired mechanic from the coal mines. He loved the outdoors, his family and friends and always having a smile and kind word. Jim was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Nina H. Mathews of Elizabethtown; a son and daughter-in-law, James Steve and Kathy Mathews of Elizabethtown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Lyn and Jerry Stacey of Elizabethtown and Connie Lee and Ronnie Harrison of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Cyndi and Denny Hahn, Katie and T. J. Maier, Kimberly and Dago Valencia, Douglas Combs, Brenton Harrison, Kristina Mathews, Mathew Harrison, Kara Mathews and Joseph Stacey; great-grandchildren, Alexis Goines, Makenzie Hahn, Treven Maier and Kya Maier. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Allen and Loren Mathews and one sister, Wanda Anderson.

Louis M. Biggs

ANNA -- Louis M. Biggs, 61, of Anna, died at 2:17 a. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Services will be at 10 a. m. Monday in Kassly Funeral Home in Collinsville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Sunday and 9 to 10 a. m. Monday in the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p. m. Monday in Wiggs Cemetery east of Anna, with Pastor Robert Klein officiating. Memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or American Lung Association.

Juanita Goforth

CAMPBELL HILL -- Juanita Goforth, 89, went home to be with her Lord at 2:35 a. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Mo. Services will be at 11 a. m. today at Community Church in Campbell Hill, with the Rev. Greg Sutter officiating. Burial will be in Looney Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:30 a. m. to 9 a. m. today at Wilson's Funeral Home, and then from 10 to 11 a. m. today at the church. Memorials may be made to World Vision, a Christian organization helping destitute children worldwide. She was born Friday, June 4, 1915, in Cora to John and Ollie (Stoffel) Roberts. She married Eugene M. Goforth on Aug. 21, 1935, in Benton. He passed away on Jan. 20, 1972. She was a longtime member of the Campbell Hill Community Church and a Baptist. She had lived at the Big Muddy Assisted Living Apartments in Murphysboro for four years. Juanita was a homemaker, but she also enjoyed being a special-care aide for seven years to Crystal, a handicapped student at Trico Elementary School. She was interested in and proud of her grandkids and 'kids. 'She is survived by one son, Dr. Gary Goforth and wife, Sue, of Nashville; one daughter, Karen Conner and husband, Darrel, of Campbell Hill; eight grandchildren, Jeff, Jason and Chris Goforth, Dawn Kasten , Eric Bochantin, Scott and Marc Conner, and Melissa Phoenix; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary Kasten, Jaxon Goforth, Zackary and Madison Conner, Ben and Rebecca Conner, Cole and Brandon Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Roberts.

Amos G. Irvin

BUCKNER -- Amos G. Irvin, 79, of Buckner, died at 8:14 p. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at home. Services will be at 3 p. m. Sunday in Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Sister Ruth Hays officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p. m. Sunday in the funeral home. Amos was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Buckner, to Guy and Ethel (Thomas) Irvin. He married Velma (Carpenter) Irvin and she survives. He was a retired mechanic. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran. He was a member of the American Legion in Christopher for 55 years. Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Brown of Sesser; a son and daughter-in-law, Amos Lee and Trudy Irvin of Sesser; a stepdaughter, Donna and Dennis Conner of Springdale, Ark.; a sister, Louise Lempke of Du Quoin; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

Charles Edward Avery

BENTON -- Charles Edward Avery, 84, of Benton, formerly of West Frankfort, died at 11:41 a. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 1 p. m. today in Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort, with Pastor Gary Hall officiating. There will be no visitation. Friends should go directly to the cemetery. Union Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Avery was born Feb. 3, 1920, in West Frankfort, to Frank and Mary (Marks) Avery. He was a retired coal miner, having worked at Old Ben Coal Company. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the UMWA. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jim Harris of Thompsonville and Shirley and Jerry Mondino of West Frankfort; grandchildren, Thomas and Stacy Syers, John and Donna Osterhout, Cathy and Wayne Wilce and Ryan and Heather Mondino; a brother, Joe Avery of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Alberta Mosley and a brother, Arlie Avery.

Walter Truman 'Burr Head' Lence

LICK CREEK -- Walter Truman 'Burr Head' Lence, 91, of Lick Creek, died at 4:55 p. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. He was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Anna, the son of George and Nancy Russell Lence. He married Mary Virginia Manus May 8, 1943, in Jackson, Mo. He was a member of the United Missionary Baptist Church in Lick Creek and the Operating Engineers Local 318 in Marion. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He had worked for Ado Karraker Chevrolet in Dongola and worked for International and AA Electric. He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Lence of Lick Creek; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Patty Lence of Anna, Mervin and Sue Lence and George W. Lence, all of Lick Creek; one daughter, Rosalee Lence Edwards of Marion; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Violet Lence of Anna; three sisters, Alice Martin and Sibyl Miller, both of Anna and Kathleen Winn of Saratoga; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Walter Raymond Lence, two brothers, Ernest and Curtis Lence and one great-grandson. Services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Paul Tirey officiating. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek, with full military honors given at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna. Friends may call after 6 p. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery or United Missionary Baptist Church in Lick Creek. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Louise V. (Clinton) Winemiller

WHITTINGTON -- Louise V. (Clinton) Winemiller, 83, died at 8:14 a. m. Friday, June 25, 2004, in Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Services will be at 11 a. m. Monday in Johnston Funeral Home in Whittington. She will be buried beside her husband, Richard Roe Winemiller, in Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p. m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mrs. Winemiller was born April 17, 1921, in Franklin County, the daughter of Harvey and Ruth (Lunsford) Clinton. Louise married Richard Roe Winemiller on Dec. 17, 1937. She retired from Lake Bluff Children's Home in Lake Bluff in 1979. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Patty Hastings of St. Louis and Phyllis and Marvin Whittington of Whittington; two granddaughters, Jamie Hastings Omahen and Christy Deputy; and two grandsons, Robert Whittington and Eric Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Chloe Cook, Alice Fern Slamans and Cora Lee Cook and one brother, Thomas E. Clinton.

Arthur Clutts

MAKANDA -- Arthur Bradford Clutts, 33, of Makanda and resident of Chamness Care Center in Cobden, died at 7:30 a. m. Friday, June 25, 2004, in Union County Hospital in Anna. Services will be at 1 p. m. Monday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Roger Lipe officiating. Burial will be in Casper Cemetery north of Anna. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Sunday and until 1 p. m. Monday in the funeral home.

GOLCONDA -- June Schnake, 78, of Golconda, died at 9:15 p. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, in Hardin County Hospital. Services will be at 11 a. m. Sunday in Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, with the Rev. Billy E. Green officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff Cemetery in Delwood. Visitation will be after 6 p. m. today in the funeral home.

Bernice A. Kitowski

NASHVILLE -- Bernice A. Kitowski, 83, died at 10 p. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at home. Services will be at 10 a. m. Monday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Posen, with Father James VanOss officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Sunday and 7:30 to 9 a. m. Monday in Campagna Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p. m.

CARBONDALE -- James Ollie McCoy Sr., 75, of Racine, Wis., formerly of Carbondale, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Ridgewood Care Center. Services will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday in Grace Temple Church of God in Christ. Entombment will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Crypts. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Monday in Strouf-Kniewel Funeral Home in Racine and 9 to 10 a. m. Tuesday in the church. Memorials may be made to Little Macedonia COGIC.

NASHVILLE -- Loretta Amanda Emilie Brune, 78, of Nashville, died at 3 a. m. Friday, June 25, 2004, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Services will be at 11 a. m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p. m. Sunday in Campagna Funeral Home and 8:30 to 11 a. m. Monday in the church.
