Charlene Tiner Alsip

MARION -- Charlene Tiner Alsip, 64, passed away at 6:15 p. m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion surrounded by her family. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Spillertown Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Nolen officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be at McKinney Chapel Cemetery south of Marion. Mrs. Alsip was born on Nov. 23, 1939, in Lexington, Tenn., to Erbie and Elsie Mae (Reeves) Duke. She married Edward 'Shorty' Alsip on Aug. 31, 1957, in Corinth, Miss., and he survives. Other survivors include her daughter, Sherry and John Lazorachak of Johnston City; sons, Keith and Becky Alsip of Marion and Ricky Alsip of Marion; grandchildren, Hannah Lazorchak, Joshua Lazorchak, Matthew Alsip and Abigail Alsip; sisters, Thelma Montgomery of Jackson, Tenn., Peggy Davis of Lexington, Tenn., and Diane Coleman of Decatur, Ala.; brothers, Lois Duke of Parsons, Tenn., Billy Duke of Lexington, Tenn., and Bobby Duke of Lexington, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Charles Montgomery. Mrs. Alsip and her husband pastored Spillertown Baptist Church for 20 years. CREAL SPRINGS -- Eva Lee Knight, 70, died at 4:52 a. m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Heartland Regional Medical Center of Marion. Services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with the Rev. Robert Schierbaum officiating. Burial will be in Webb Cemetery near Tunnel Hill in Johnson County. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to 'The Family of Eva Lee Knight' and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P. O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

MARION -- Louise G. Lemasters, 80, of Gainsville, Ga., formerly of Marion, died at 1:24 p. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, in North East Georgia Medical Center of Gainsville, Ga. Arrangements are incomplete at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion.

Armitta Siddens

SESSER -- Armitta Siddens, 86, died at 8:25 p. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the Benton Health Care Center. Services will be at 10 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at the Tampico Memorial Cemetery in Tampico. There will be no visitation. She was born Jan. 5, 1918, to John and Letha Clinton. She was a homemaker. Survivors include niece, Karen Reeves and her husband Reginald of Sesser; three sisters, Melba Loman of Sesser, Mildred Spann of Sesser, and Flora Coder of Buckner; brother, Herman Clinton of Chicago; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Siddens Sr.; son, Jerry Siddens Jr.; her parents; and two daughters, Mary Lou Wilkerson, and Mono Hodge. Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort is in charge of arrangements.

DU QUOIN -- Robert H. 'Tater' Brock, 60, of Parma, Ohio, formerly of Du Quoin, died at 12:10 p. m. Monday, June 14, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Brother Darrell McCombs officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. military graveside rites will be conducted by Du Quoin VFW and Du Quoin American Legion. Friends may call from 10 a. m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

METROPOLIS -- Ova Hazel, formerly of Reevesville, died at 9 p. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the Southgate Health Care Center. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, at the Kerley Cemetery, with the Rev. Buford McGuire officiating. Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a. m. Wednesday at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.

Keith L. Yates

BUNCOMBE -- Keith L. Yates, 52, passed away at 2:50 p. m. Sunday afternoon, June 27, 2004, at home. Services will be held 2 p. m today, June 29, 2004, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jim Shipley and Floyd Stout officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Mount Zion Baptist Church building fund, c/o Bob Prater, 110 Proctor Ave., Buncombe, IL 62912. Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna is in charge of arrangements.

CARTERVILLE -- Eula Imogene Horner, 86, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at West Oak Rehab Center in Houston, Texas. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday, July 2, 2004, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with the Rev. Randy Strain officiating. Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dora Dale

BENTON -- Dora Mae Dale, 88, formerly of Macedonia, died at 4:12 a. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at Benton Healthcare Center. Services will be at 11 a. m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Ruby McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Showalter

HOFFMAN -- Elizabeth Showalter, 15, died at 11:15 p. m. Sunday, June 27, 2004. Services will be at 1 p. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at the Richview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Bryan officiating. Burial will be in the I. O. O. F Cemetery in Dahlgren. Visitation will be 11 a. m. Wednesday to the time of the service at the church.

Iola Lybarger

CUTLER -- Iola B. Lybarger, 95, died at 2:20 p. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, in the Skilled Care Unit of the Pinckneyville Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at the Wilson Funeral Home in Steeleville.

CARBONDALE -- June Deaton Brown, 83, died at 10:35 a. m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Memorials may be made to University Baptist Church, Carbondale or Baptist Children Home of Carmi and will be accepted by the funeral home.

Mark Gonzalez

HERRIN -- Mark A. Gonzalez, 37, died at 12:04 a. m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at the Herrin Hospital. Memorial services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Tom Boerma officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Texas. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Roy Copher

BENTON -- Roy L. Copher, 55, died at 1 a. m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Poulson Funeral Home in Benton.

Deborah Johnson

CHRISTOPHER -- Deborah Denise Johnson, 48, died at 4:12 p. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Franklin County Hospital in Benton. Services will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Logan Church of God, with Pastor Melton Nelms officiating. Burial will be in Logan Church of God Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. Wednesday at the church.

John Dobill

ROYALTON -- John Dobill, 90, of 513 S. Royal Street, Royalton, died at 9:17 p. m., Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Herrin Hospital. John was born in Royalton on March 18, 1914, to Michael and Stella (Dvarzeski) Dobill. He married Lena Possanza on Jan. 28, 1939, in Royalton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2003. He is survived by a daughter, Lana Marie Dobill, two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Rita Dobill and David H. and Dixie Dobill, all of Royalton; four grandchildren, Dustin Dobill of Royalton, Shari Dobill of LeRoy, David and Bobbie Dobill of Bloomington and Dan and Kathy Dobill of Ames, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Angela, Alexandria and Celeste Dobill; a sister-in-law, Ann Dobill of Downers Grove; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two grandsons, Daryl and Mark Allen Dobill, a brother, Pete Dobill, and a sister and brother-in-law, Joe and Ann (Dobill) Kadlubiak, also preceded him in death. John was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Senior Citizens in Royalton. He was a resident of the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin for the past four years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He retired from Allen Industries in Herrin in 1979. A funeral Mass for Mr. Dobill will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in St. Aloysius Church in Royalton, with Father Peter Hsu officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, east of Royalton. Visiting hours are from 6 to 9 p. m. today at Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton, where a rosary prayer service will be held at 7 p. m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Dobill may be made to St. Aloysius Church, the Alzheimer's Association of Southern Illinois or the donors' choice of charities. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Thomas Dwight Burton

WEST FRANKFORT -- Thomas Dwight Burton, 76, of Mount Carmel, formerly of West Frankfort and Broughton, died at 12:19 p. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at home. He was born April 29, 1928, in West Frankfort to Thomas Jeff and Ada (Mocaby) Burton. He was married to Alberta (Groom) Burton, and she survives. Surviving besides his wife, Alberta, are four sons, Larry Burton and wife, Debbie, of Union, Ky., Tom Burton and wife, Cathy, of Herrin, Steve Burton and wife, Leann, of Mount Carmel and John Burton of Evansville, Ind.; one daughter, Brenda Burton of Mount Carmel; five grandsons and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Delores Rotramel, Nora Burton and Charlean Summers, and a grandson, Chris Burton. Mr. Burton was a coal miner, having retired from Old Ben Coal Co. He was a member of Logan Church of God. Services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Melton Nelms officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Cemetery, near Broughton. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p. m. Monday at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Memorial contributions can be made to Logan Church of God or the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Farrell Lewis

CARRIER MILLS -- Farrell Lewis, 83, died at 11:50 a. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday in Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home, with burial in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Louise Howerton Lantrip

CAMBRIA -- Louise Howerton Lantrip, 81, of Cambria, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Services will be at 11 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Riggin- Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Ed Martin officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes. Foundation. She was born on April 19, 1923, in Crainville to Charles and Minnie (Crain) Vaughn. She married Thomas Daton Howerton on Sept. 28, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Feb. 7, 1977. She then married Marion Orval Lantrip on June 15, 1985, in Hafer. He preceded her in death May 21, 2004. Clara is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Lorraine and Curtis Messer of Tamaroa, Donna Rowatt and Kenny Dawkins of Royalton, Ina and Norman Burgess of Herrin, and Wanda and Joe Malston of Carterville; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nine stepchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Daton Howerton and Orval Lantrip; two sisters, Marie McNeill and Rose Ferguson; and one brother, Clarence Vaughn. Clara worked for 18 years in the dietary department at Herrin Hospital, where she performed various tasks. She was a full time minister since the age of 16 and attended the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Marion. She enjoyed writing gospel songs, poems, preaching the gospel, and singing at various nursing homes in the area.

Dan Magers

CHESTER -- Dan L. Magers, 85, died at 11:20 a. m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Chester Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday in Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Mark Willig officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p. m. Monday and 7:30 to 11 a. m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the 150th anniversary of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, St. John Lutheran School or St. Louis Zoo Friends Association.

Tootie Douglas

CHRISTOPHER -- Tootie Douglas, 77, died at 8:20 p. m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a. m. Wednesday, June 30, in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Douglas was owner and operator of Douglas Jewelry. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Christopher to Lee Arthur and Hallie (Booth) Douglas. His wife, Shirley (Jenkins) Douglas survives.
