JOHNSTON CITY -- Lee Richard Rawson Sr. , 88, died at 10:12 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

WEST FRANKFORT -- Louise Mills, 89, of West Frankfort, passed away at 1 p. m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, in the Franklin Hospital in Benton. Services will be at 1 p. m. today in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with Minister Gene Fox officiating. Burial will be in the Brady Cemetery in Akin. Visitation will be after 10 a. m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Diabetes. Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

WEST FRANKFORT -- Delhia L. Collins, 84, of West Frankfort formerly of Benton, died at 1:33 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Franklin Hospital in Benton. Services will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Poulson Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Bob Askew officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and Odd Fellows in Benton. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gary Edward Potocki

MARION -- Gary Edward Potocki, 67, of 3068 Route 148 in Marion, died at 12:50 p. m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in the Frankfort Care Center. Gary was born on March 12, 1937, in Royalton, to Edward Alex and Velma (DeRemo) Potocki. He married Terra Lynn Houghlan on April 13, 1966, in Johnston City. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Velma Potocki of Royalton; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Patricia Potocki; his great nephew, John Jordan of Goreville, and special niece, Sonya Parker of Herrin; his nephew and his wife, Troy and Elizabeth Potocki of Goreville; his great-nephews and niece, Brandon, Trenton and Morgan Potocki, all of Goreville; and his dear friends, John and Chris Watkins of Ellis Grove and Mike and Carolyn Griffin of Carbondale. His father also preceded him in death. Gary was the former co-owner, with his wife, Terra, of the Zeigler Colonial Manor Nursing Home. He was a retired coal miner who last worked at Burning Star No. 5 Mine in Hurst-Bush. He was a Protestant and a member of the Royalton Masonic Lodge 1047. Private family services for Mr. Potocki will be held at 11 a. m. today in Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton, with Brother Mike Leposki officiating and with Masonic rites accorded by the Royalton Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in Miners Cemetery, east of Royalton. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Potocki may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to the APDA, Midwest Chapter, 2050 Pfingsten Road, Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60025.

Odell Eastwood

ANNA -- Odell Eastwood, 79, of Anna, died at 11:07 p. m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at home near Saratoga. He was born on May, 23, 1925, in White Hill, the son of Paris and Bertie (Wall) Eastwood. He married Shirley James Oct. 4, 1954, in Jackson, Mo. Odell was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed cutting timber all over Southern Illinois. He worked at the former National Mobile Home Plant north of Anna and retired as a custodian at Union County Hospital in Anna. He was a member of the Saratoga Church. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Anna; one son, Steve Eastwood of Jonesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gary Rendleman of Anna, Susan Stephen Curtis of Pleasant View, Tenn. , and Lesa and Doug Halterman of Anna; two sisters, Betty Garrett of Anna and Alberta Cook of Jonesboro; and three grandchildren, Laura and Lisa Sheppard and Thomas Halterman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James O. 'Jimmy' Eastwood; and four brothers, Lawrence, Lowell, Lolo and Luther. Services for Mr. Odell Eastwood will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Doug Atkins officiating. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p. m. today at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Charles Parcell

WEST FRANKFORT -- Charles Robert Parcell, 57, of West Frankfort, formerly of Royalton, died at 6:13 a. m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, in UMWA Hospital in West Frankfort. According to Mr. Parcell's wishes, he will be cremated. There will be no services. Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton is in charge of arrangements.

Crystal E. Morrison

GOREVILLE -- Crystal E. Morrison, 54, passed away at 11:20 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at St. Louis University Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville, with Dr. Ron Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Busby Cemetery in Goreville. Mrs. Morrison was born on Dec. 9, 1949, in Carbondale, to Charles Rayburn and Juanita (Murry) White. She married Jerry D. Morrison on June 11, 1967, in Goreville, and he survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Mindy Morrison of Springfield; Andy Morrison of Goreville; six grandchildren, Eden, Chayne, Kelsey, Makayla, Kolton and Drew Morrison; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Eddie and Lisa Simmons of Sparta, B. J. and Patty Simmons of Modesto, Calif. , Rusty White of Franklin, S. C. , Danny White of Goreville, and Rodney White of Vandalia; and one sister, Donna Duvall of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Eric Morrison. She was an active member of the Goreville United Methodist Church. She was formerly a Methodist Church pastor. She was a member of the Women's Aglow. She loved to fish and work around her home. Crystal was a friend to all and will be greatly missed. Memorials may be made to the Makayla Morrison Fund, c/o the Union Planter's Bank in Goreville.

Donald Williams

CARBONDALE -- Donald A. Williams, 92, of Carbondale, died at 11 a. m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at home. Services for Mr. Williams will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in University Baptist Church, with Sam Foskey officiating. Mr. Williams will be buried beside his wife in the Murdale Garden of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a. m. Thursday at the church. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Williams was born on July 21, 1912, in Jefferson County, Mo. , to the Rev. John Evert and Iva Ellen (Davis) Williams. He married Marie Ann Luh on Aug. 10, 1934. She preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Luh Fraunfelter; one granddaughter and her husband, Pamela and Larry Wilkey; and two great-grandchildren, Colt and Alexys Wilkey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters, Thelma Austin and infant Faye Elizabeth Williams. Mr. Williams was a member of the University Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. He was a member of the Masons. Mr. Williams owned a bakery, farmed and was a contractor/builder for more than 40 years. He has left a monument to his work in the many homes, churches and commercial structures he built in Jefferson County. Contributions can be made to University Baptist Church, located at 700 South Oakland in Carbondale, or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, at 1110 North Johnson Street, Marion, IL 62959-1665.

CENTRALIA -- Flossie Kraus, 100, died at 11:40 a. m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the Boggs Chapel of the Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 10 a. m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Celina Fischer

CARRIER MILLS -- Celina E. Fischer, 91, passed away at 8:30 a. m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Fountain Nursing Home in Marion. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with the Rev. Richard G. Mohr officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, Calif. Blue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P. O. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Fischer was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Spencer, Idaho, to George and Esther (Brown) Bacon. She married William F. Fischer, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1963. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Sally E. Jones of Carrier Mills and Mary M. and Earl Trimble of San Antonio, Texas; her grandchildren, William L. and Tammy Jones, John P. Jones, David E. Jones, James D. and Michele Jones and Robert M. Jones; and her great-grandchildren, Ryan Jones, Allison Jones, Lyndsey Jones, Ashley Jones, Nichole Jones, Joshua Jones and Jesse Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Lee Jones; and three brothers. Mrs. Fischer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. She worked as an administrative assistant for the American Cancer Society and was formerly the manager of Ventura Marina Park in Ventura, Calif. She was an artist and a wildlife activist and loved to play musical instruments. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.

McLEANSBORO -- Paul J. Hale, 87, died at 9 a. m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Services will be at 1 p. m. today in Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be in Little Springs Cemetery, located near McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. at the funeral home.

Robert 'Bob' Leo Evrard

MARION -- Robert 'Bob' Leo Evrard, 68, of Cicero, formerly of Marion, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at home. Bob was born on July 30, 1936, in Marion, to the late Leo Evrard and Nadine (Owens) Dawe. Visitation and memorial services will be held from 3 to 7 p. m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Parkwyn Funeral Home, 6901 Roosevelt Road, Berwyn. Per Bob's request, he will be cremated. Bob is survived by his children, Leo Evrard of Brookfield and Jeffrey, Steven and Jennifer Evrard, all of Marion; nine grandchildren; his mother, Nadine Dawe of Johnston City; his brothers, Tom Dawe of Elkhart Lake, Wis. , and Jim Dawe of Johnston City; his sisters, Judy Drake of Benton, Brenda Kissinger of Johnston City, and Marion Hawman of Pawley's Island, S. C.; and his life partner of 20 years, Martha Winicki and her son, Angel. He also had many other relatives who will miss him greatly. Bob was a skilled roofer and owned his own roofing business in Cicero until his recent illness. Bob enjoyed fishing any day or night and in any kind of weather.

KARNAK -- Eva Schwartz Helmig, 92, died at 11:45 p. m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Southgate Care Center in Metropolis. Services will be at 11 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak, with the Revs. Steve Heisner and Bill Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Chain Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. today at the funeral home, with Eastern Star rites at 7 p. m.

WEST FRANKFORT -- Frank L. Browning, 91, of West Frankfort, formerly of Orient, died at 5:45 a. m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort. Services will be at 10 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in Union Funeral Home. Interment will be in Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be at 9 a. m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Browning was a retired coal miner. He was born on Jan. 20, 1913, in Henryetta, Okla. , to Edward and Minnie (Lupo) Browning. Survivors include his wife, Theresa, of West Frankfort; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Edwards of Mascoutah; one brother and sister-in-law, F. G. and Louise Browning of West Frankfort; four granddaughters, Toni Edwards and Sue Davenport of Bangor, Maine, Tena and husband Allen Bigham of Vincennes, Ind. , and Melody and husband Frank Evans of Mascoutah; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Ashley Evans and Emma and Lucas Bigham; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, India Mae; and his brothers, Fritz and Fred. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Roy E. Gene Smith

MARION -- Roy E. Gene Smith, 88, of Marion, formerly of West Frankfort, passed away at 7:29 a. m. Oct. 18, 2004, at Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion. He was born on Oct. 21, 1915, in Williamson County, to Willis Smith and Laura (Harris) Smith. He married Allegra Violet (Melvin) Smith on July 19, 1937, in West Frankfort and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 2001. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Robert and Elaine Smith of Edwardsville, and Monty and Patty Smith of Carbondale. Also surviving are grandchildren, Gary, Larry, Marty and Mason Smith and Elise Redmann, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Allegra Violet Smith, by two sisters, Ruby Rotramel and Gladys Beal and by three brothers, Paul, Elvis and Raymond Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church of West Frankfort, the United Mine Workers of America and the VFW of West Frankfort. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a retired coal miner having worked at Old Ben Mine No. 26. Services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at the Antioch United Methodist Church of West Frankfort, with the Rev. Tim Gossett officiating. Burial will be in the East Fork Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p. m. Wednesday to the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort and after noon Thursday at the church.

GORHAM -- Hildegard Ida Clara (Doering) Rathjen, 89, of Perryville, Mo. , formerly of Jacob and Gorham, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, in Perry County Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p. m. Cyril Eugene Bowlin

BENTON -- Cyril Eugene Bowlin, 56, of Benton, died at 2:15 p. m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at home. Services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in Hobbs- Johnson Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Robert Askew officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p. m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Bowlin was born on Dec. 9, 1947, in Chicago, the son of Alva 'Bud' Bowlin Jr. and Jessie (Lunsford) Bowlin. He married the former Gay Marshall on June 28, 1985, and she survives. He was a self-employed hunting and fishing guide and a U. S. Army veteran. Cyril was a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited and a life member of BASS. He was inducted into the International Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in 2004 in Hayword, Wis. , and was the only person from Illinois with this honor. He was the Team Supreme tournament director and IN Bass Tournament director, won the Ambassadors Classic in 1989, and was a major participant in the celebrity quail hunt held at the Rend Lake Resort. He hosted a television show 'Southern Outdoors with C. B. ,' which still airs on television today. He is survived by his wife, Gay Bowlin of Benton; one daughter, Adena Bowlin of Benton; his parents, Alva 'Bud' Bowlin Jr. and wife Jessie of Benton; one sister and brother-in-law, Christi and Dwayne Kirkman of Benton; two nephews, Jonathon and Korby Kirkman, both of Benton; and one great-niece, Kailey Kirkman, and one great-nephew, Zack Kirkman, both of Benton. Mr. Bowlin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alva Bowlin Sr. and Sybil Bowlin, Oscar and Flora Lunsford, and several aunts and uncles. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at the funeral home.
